pharveyharlan: I guess on your Meeting2011Summer topic you could have an INCLUDE to a MeetingHelper topic which has something like %SEARCH{topic="ASETOPIC%*"}%
%SEARCH{topic="% BASETOPIC%*"}%
[00:33]
harlanI'm afraid I'm about to get an education :)
Im also digging to figure out how to expand variables form the UserForm when I instantiate the per-user meeting topic.
[00:34]
pharveyI usually put common code into a single topic. You don't have to use a MeetingHelper. It just makes it easier to maintain all your Meeting20XX* topics if the code is just in one place
as for expanding variables, I think you need to put them in special START/ENDSECTIONs
I guess this should be yet another FAQ. I've been writing dozens of them :)
Regarding the earlier conversation about saving generated content, you can also save it to a wiki topic, Eg. http://foswiki.org/Support/Faq52
System.FAQRebuildingWikiUsersTopic ships as an example of this technique too.

HughBlairG'day all - I wanted to put something in the xyzUserTemplate to configure the parent of my usertopics being generated by NewUserPlugin. Back in the TWiki days I used to do some black magic variation on %$nopMETA:TOPICPARENT{name="Main.TWikiUsers"}% (or somesuch) Is there an equivalent in the Foswiki world? [06:35]
HughBlairharlan: thanks and yes sorry I did make a bit of a mess of that question - I was free associating. Let's try it again...
I guess my question is: can I put something in a template topic that sets the parent of topics generated from the template? And by that I mean a NewUserPlugin user Template where I can't easily update the parameters of a form...
[06:36]
pharveyI've never used NewUserPlugin, but if it treats *Template topics the same as save & edit, you could write something like [06:38]
harlanpharvey: is that the "engine" component? [06:38]
pharveyharlan: Extension, JQueryPlugin [06:38]
harlanthx [06:38]
pharveyHughBlair: is the parent determined dynamically? Or always the same topic?
If it's a constant topic parent, I think you just need a %META:TOPICPARENT{name="Foo"}% at the top
If it's the result of a macro, you probably need %STARTSECTION{type="expandvariables"}%%META:TOPICPARENT{name="%MACRO"}%%ENDSECTION{type="expandvariables"}%
in other news: you *can* track 43GB of binaries in git, you just need to disable compression. And pack.depth :-)
[06:39]
HughBlairpharvey: thanks, that's what I thought it was. I'll try it again to rule out any PBKAC errors

Hi!
I have a problem with one task. I do not know how to create a special form
I mean: I wan't to have an edittabble.
And I have one
but the thing is, to create 3 editable cells (2 dates and ID), and the rest of tehe cells should not be editable
and this not editable cells shoud be filled automaticaly, by some kind of request, and the parameter for this request should be the cell with ID
so the filling this cells has to go on AFTER user's ID cell filling.
And I'm trying to solve this problem, but I really failed all of my ideas
So if abybody could help me I would be really grateful.
So if anybody could help me I would be really grateful.
[07:15]
harlanI don't know, mariann ... [07:20]
mariannI can show you my code, I have created so far... [07:20]
HughBlairmariann: Hi - to set a particlar cell in a row as 'non editable' you should be able to use some variation on the EDITTABLE format called "label, 0, init" see format arguments from http://foswiki.org/Extensions/EditTablePlugin (unless I misunderstood your question)
mariann: Ahh I see but I guess getting the form request into the mix might require some fancy footwork
[07:27]
mariannwhat do you meam, saying "fancy footwork"?
some mistakes?
[07:30]
HughBlairpharvey: Thanks for the hint about the %META:TOPICPARENT{name="Foo"}% I notice when I use this directive it appends a second %META:TOPICPARENT% directive instead of replacing the original one. Do you know a way I can kill the existing parent delcalaration and replace it? [07:30]
pharveyyou should only have one of these per topic. Where is the other one coming from? [07:31]
HughBlairpharvey: well to take a step back I'm using NewUserPlugin to generate user topics from a template. In the template I'd like to specify who the parent is for the user topic. When I do this with %META:TOPICPARENT% it sets two parents "WebHome" (probably the default) and also the one I specify in the template. [07:33]
pharveypharvey reads NewUserPlugin code [07:34]
mariannso if I wanto to send the (some kind of) request to a database, I need to create "checkbox" cell, I mean | checkbox, <size*>, <option 1>, <option 2>, etc | ? [07:35]
pharveyHughBlair: the problem seems to be that NewUserPlugin is using a deprecated API function, Foswiki::Func::saveTopicText - you need to raise a bug against this plugin [07:38]

***AndreU has joined #foswiki [07:47]
HughBlairpharvey: I tried to skin the cat another way and now the %META:TOPICPARENT% directive only appears once, but the breadcrumbs aren't showing correctly on the topic. I assume that using this old function Foswiki::Func::saveTopicText might be involved in that process too? I'll raise a bug in any case. [07:48]
pharveycan you examine the .txt file in an external text editor? as long as it's well-formed (no extraneous whitespace or newlines), it should work
HughBlair: Foswiki::Func::saveTopicText does not support embedded META: directives. But, it's useful to explain your actual use-case (expected vs observed), that's more useful to the bugfixer than my cursory analysis (Eg. I could be wrong, and misleading :-)
[07:49]
CDotpadraig_lennon: you mean, an example of making a "save" script call?
pharvey: not 100% sure, but I think it *does* support embedded %META.....

padraig_lennonGood idea.. Will check.. [07:55]
CDotpharvey: the comment *implies* it doesn't support it, but it's misleading. It does. [07:56]
pharveywell! it supports the bug we're seeing :) [07:56]
padraig_lennonpharvey, CDot.. That was it all right.. The AuthScripts. Anyone have an example using curl to get around this? [07:57]
pharveyto get around what?
FWIW if you run the unit tests for RestPlugin, you'll see some curl invocations that might be similar to what you want to do with /bin/save
[07:57]
CDotpadraig_lennon: depends on the server setup. if you are using templatelogin, you can use username= and password=
if you are using apache login, then there's no way round it, AFAIK
[07:57]
HughBlairpharvey: hmmm interesting I just tried again with a fresh UserTemplate topic without any of the other stuff in there and specifying in the UserTemplate %$nopMETA:TOPICPARENT{name="ParentTopicIWant"}% (without declaring the webname) and now it works as expected... I'll have to check if it still works once I re-introduce the LdapNgPlugin calls. [07:58]
pharveyHughBlair: I've seen Foswiki do strange things with multiple TOPICPARENT and TOPICINFO. That's completely possible.
So CDot was right. And I was right too (that I would be misleading :-)

pharveyArthurClemens: I think mariann wants to do an AJAX request based on the editable cells, which populates the read-only cells. [09:45]
ArthurClemensI think you're right
and foswiki table cells don't have IDs
but could contain a div or span with id
question is which data should be permanent
should any of this get saved?
[09:46]
CDotArthurClemens: foswiki table cells *do* have ID's - *if* you use EditRowPlugin
that pluginalso has the ability to address a REST save to any individual cell
[09:52]
ArthurClemensI see, time I have a new look at that plugin [09:53]
CDot.... and any individual row, and any individual table (tho not cols)
I added full AJAX support to it, so cells are individually editable.

Could someone test it before I do?
[09:56]
mariannpharvey: But how do to, this AJAX request? [09:57]
pharveymariann: it's a difficult problem, because AFAIK the HTML markup that EDITTABLE produces has not been designed for this purpose in mind. [09:58]
CDotpadraig_lennon: it looks correct.... what sort of test did you have in mind? Simply mechanically repeating what you did won't help. [09:58]
mariannpharvey: I see... [09:59]
ArthurClemensmariann: so it looks like EditRowPlugin might give you the possibilities [09:59]
mariannArthurClemens: Unfortunately it did not work properly. I mean its difficult to add request to a row. [10:00]
ArthurClemensyou mean to load data into a cell? [10:01]
pharveymariann, you already tried with EditRowPlugin? [10:01]
mariannyes, I have tried with EditRowPlugin already
ArthurClemens: Yes, the cells are empty, not filled
[10:02]
ArthurClemensshould any of this data get stored? [10:05]
mariannall of this
ArthurClemens: all of this data should get stored in table
ArthurClemens: all of this data should get stored into table
[10:06]
ArthurClemensso it should become part of the topic text/data form
and why is it a table? does the topic contain more data?
[10:07]
mariannArthurClemens: that's right, the topic contain more tables with diverse data..
and I want this table to have same kind of "booking vacation system"
[10:10]
pharveyYou can link different types of data... topics that use different DataForms.. together [10:11]
mariannI know that. But how to put a special search form into cell? whats more: how to put it in right cell to fill the rest of the cells? [10:12]
pharveymariann: where is the external data coming from? [10:14]
mariannfrom database LDAP
and I know how to send a request to a database...but it does not fill the cells with the data from this database.
[10:14]
pharveyOkay. Are you looking for a pure JS solution? or is perl plugin okay?
I'm thinking you might do a custom formfield type
and how will you keep the "cell value" synchronised with the external database? Or is it okay to save & forget?
[10:16]
mariannhmmm....I think the pearl plugin is better (you mean the pearl plugin similar to other plugins aviable on foswiki?) [10:18]
padraig_lennonAnyone know if FlotChartPlugin is working with the latest version of JQueryPlugin? I just installed there an none of the examples are working [10:18]
pharveymariann, yes. Like an MyCustomFormfieldPlugin
then you could do | ExternalData | myexternal+data | .... DataForm
pharvey would normally use a beforeSaveHandler to populate these fields on save
I guess your problem, though, is that you want an interactive thing, populating the fields real-time?
[10:19]
mariannthat's right pharvey [10:20]
pharveyin that case, the "source" (editable) fields could still be a custom formfield type [10:21]
mariannouuu...could you tell me more? what do you mean? [10:22]
pharveyare you familiar with DataForms?
(sorry, I just have to ask first)
[10:22]
mariannI have this site...and I red some of this... [10:23]
pharveyso you know what a DataForm definition table looks like? [10:24]
mariannyes, I know...similar to simple table.
"Each column of the table is one element of an entry field: Name, Type, Size, Values, Tooltip message, and Attributes. "
[10:24]
pharveyexcellent
so, in Foswiki, we can invent new formfield types
usually we just have textarea, textboxlist, radio, checkbox...
[10:25]
mariannthat's right
yes
[10:25]
pharveybut you could create a custom type, which knows how to autocomplete from your external data service, and also populate other fields on the HTML form (via javascript) [10:26]
mariannok [10:26]
pharveyfor the AJAX part, this plugin might register a special rest handler (/bin/rest/MyPlugin/getData for example), or perhaps you have something that the javascript can talk to directly [10:26]
mariann"or perhaps you have something that the javascript can talk to directly" - for instance? what could it be? [10:28]
pharveyI don't know. I just assumed, you had some javascript that could get the values you wanted already (in the web browser)
but if it's easier to do in perl... then I would use Browser's javascript -> request to /bin/MyPlugin/handler?parameters=values -> populate (read-only) form values
bin/rest/MyPlugin/handler

andibreabout 99 % i hope;-) [15:27]
CDotexcellent. [15:27]

dawnbuiehi all - I'm wondering if it's possible to setup foswiki so people can register but they can't edit topics until they have been approved - right now they can sign up and are automatically made a user and listing in the main user list - but i'd like to be able to approve them before they end up there [19:38]
***MichaelDaum has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 258 seconds) [19:38]
dawnbuiealso right now i have to add users to a specialized group to allow them to add to a topic [19:38]
harlanWhat do you get by having registered users who cannot edit content? [19:39]
dawnbuieand finally - it seems only the main admin gets immediate notification of sign ups - is it possible to allow all admins to get this email notice too? if so what template would i change to do that
i'd rather NOT have registered users - but it seems that's the default - at least the way I've set things up
as soon as someone signs up they are on the list of users
I just don't know what templates to edit to get my settings right
[19:39]
harlanYou can restrict registration - that would give anybody who "got in" the ability to ready content... [19:40]
***mark_doe has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [19:41]
harlanthere are access perms that would let you limit edits, adds, renames to registered users. [19:41]

is RegisterUser a real variable?
[19:45]
harlanIm looking for some of the docs now. [19:47]
dawnbuieor RegistrationAgent ../ that is just the script that does registration right? [19:47]
harlanIm still waiting for System.AccessControl to load.
There is a discussion in the installation notes about the various access and registration choices.
[19:48]
dawnbuieon foswiki? if so what url?
i've found this http://wiki.diasporadialogues.com/System/ManagingUsers
[19:49]
harlanhttp://foswiki.org/System/AccessControl
http://foswiki.org/Support/Question121 may help, too
http://foswiki.org/Support/Faq12
[19:49]
dawnbuiethanks i'm reading them all now [19:53]
here's a whole discussion on this issue that took place in 2009 and is covering the exact same territory i'm goign over http://foswiki.2555947.n2.nabble.com/How-to-stop-fake-registrations-lavabit-com-accounts-td4185986.html
eg: The ApprovedUserGroup is what I use, and it effectively defeats the
spammers from getting in. However, I think this should be a standard
feature provided in the basic install because you really can't run a
(public) foswiki site without it. If new registrations are not approved,
then after a period of time, they should be auto-deleted from the user
list by a cron job. At present, you will get a plethora of bogus users
set up by these robotic spam engines.

harlancool [21:09]
dawnbuieI had to turn on verification required in the config area
i think that note should be included in the install guide
[21:10]
harlanI'm still looking for a way to only allow site access to registered users but not require an HTTP login and then a wiki login when folks want to make edits. [21:10]
dawnbuiei'm also wondering how i change the %webmaster% user?
currently it's me but i want my client to take over
[21:10]
harlanThere is probably a sitepreference. [21:11]
dawnbuiebut i also want ot keep myself as the config user [21:11]
harlanAnd I'd be inclined to just have several people be in the Admin group. [21:11]
dawnbuieme too
actually i have several peopel but they are not getting the emails for registration
only me
[21:11]
harlanstrange [21:11]
dawnbuieso i thought there was only one %webmaster% allowed [21:11]
harlanMost of the sites I manage have multiple folks in the admin group.
Check out the Groups link on your site - you'll see it.
[21:12]
dawnbuiei know i've put htem there [21:12]
harlanAnd controlling access to bin/configure is pretty easy. [21:12]
dawnbuiehttp://wiki.diasporadialogues.com/Main/WikiGroups
do oyu see the admin group on this page?
I know my email address is included all over the site as the admin to contact in case of probelms - i'd like to change that to my client's email
And when you say controlling access to bin is easy - do you mean I shouldn't share my password?
[21:13]
harlanI see the Admin Group [21:16]
dawnbuieyes but they don't get the emails!
i mean the registration
[21:16]
harlananything in the log files? You might also be able to add a Cc: to those emails so you get a copy, too. [21:17]
dawnbuieyes i could
add a cc
but I still need to know where to change the email for the whole site webmaster
[21:25]
harlanI set that to a generic account, and either use a mailing list or an alias.
I don;'t set that to a normal email account.
[21:26]
***eberon_ has quit IRC (Quit: eberon_) [21:26]
dawnbuiealso now that I've got registration verification working (yeah!) for the webmaster - how do I now allow these registered users to make and edit topics? What are they called? Is the variable RegisteredUser?
I've been looking through the fosiki webs at the WebPreferences topics but they are mostly set up to allow the Admin group to edit
ok ok - re: webmaster email -
i'm just not sure where to reset that info... is it in the bin/config?
[21:26]
harlanThere are topics about Access Control. [21:28]
gac410bin/configure for webmaster email.
Check the email tab
WebPreferences itself is usually restricted to admin for changes. But the web itself is controlled by DENYWEBCHANGE / ALLOWWEBCHCANGE. If you want the web mostly open, you can DENYWEBCHANGE for WikiGuest for example
Then any registered user can change topics in that web.
[21:28]
harlanRemember RENAME as well... [21:31]
gac410The example settings are all in the WebPreferences topic. Just best not to combine Allow and Deny - Either control something by ALLOW or by DENY. not both.
bbiab
