so it's a bit tricky
you'd have to create a new skin by copying the right template, and then activate your skin. Let me give you more exact details
so, foswiki_irc5, you go to your templates directory, you copy view.pattern.tmpl to view.YOURSKIN.tmpl
ah no, wrong file

***foswiki_irc2 has joined #foswiki [15:40]
gac410IF by the way ... you eliminated the error for "Empty expression"
That fails if I sync up the Fn_IF tests. I'll made that particular test conditional on Foswiki >= 1.2 ... once I commit my mess
[15:40]
foswiki_irc2i'm just starting to get the hang of foswiki but there's a problem I have. there's no email for our domain that I can make foswiki use, so I cannot reset passwords for my users. I have a standard install of foswiki. how else can I reset passwords? [15:44]
gac410That's difficult - can you use an external email service like gmail?
(Though right now foswiki has trouble with gmail ssl requirement - until we get 1.1.4 out.
[15:46]
foswiki_irc2I'm waiting for 1.1.4 actually
for that specific reason
I wonder if I can just forward the email to @localhost using Debian's exim4 mailer
[15:50]
gac410probably. You can set up aliases. In Postfix I use something like aliasaddr: realaddr
So someuser: root would send any mail sent to someuser to the root email.
I've been working on building a 1.1.4 beta - but I want to make sure all of our unit tests are synced up between trunk (1.2+) and 1.1.4, and they all pass.
unfortunately I don't have the keys to sign a beta, so it will be a private build until Lavr has some time.
[15:52]
foswiki_irc2it's one user so far, so I've modified the .htpasswd file in data to include an md5 hash of "abc123". restarted apache2 but this didn't take. any other file I could modify by hand? [15:55]
gac410Really abc123 ... or did you use a hash that is valid for a known password.
data/.htpasswd is the file. Be careful editing, as if a user registers at the exact same time, you might regress updates.
[15:55]
foswiki_irc2I replaced the password (the user forgot it) with a hash of "abc123". my thinking is that the user can then go to change known password in foswiki and change it by hand there. no email, right?
there's only one user besides myself in the unit so far today. I'll definitely keep this in mind for later though.
[15:56]
gac410That should work. so you used something like ... htpasswd -n -d -b username abc123 Which printed out:
username:ZhhoLWkUiRx6I
and then edited that hash into .htpasswd
[15:57]
foswiki_irc2I used "htpasswd -c -m .resetpasswd user" and then copied the hash over the one in .htpasswd (I read that foswiki structures .htpasswd differently than the utility htpasswd does).
I'll try with the user's WikiName instead of "user" and see if that works
[15:59]
gac410Yes - foswiki adds an extra :email@addr to the line. htpasswd would clobber that.
What type of encryption are you using? The default crypt?
Are you using apache auth, or foswiki template auth. Right now apache option -m (md5) is not compatible with foswiki's definition.
So I don't think that the -m option would work.
[16:00]
***verboese is now known as VerboEse|Off [16:02]
gac410That's probably what failed. [16:02]
foswiki_irc2I switched to md5
other than that it's standard foswiki setup
[16:02]
gac410Right. But Foswiki defines md5 different from apache. [16:02]
foswiki_irc2ooooh

[16:02]
gac410yeah - really dumb. hang on let me look a bit. [16:03]

gac410Could you look at your .htpasswd .... do lines look like WikiName:Some really long text line:hash:email [16:03]
foswiki_irc2yes [16:05]
gac410okay so that's were Foswiki diverges from apache. Foswiki "md5" is actually Apache htdigest authentication.
Is your realm the default realm?
[16:05]
foswiki_irc2you've lost me. "default realm"? [16:06]
gac410'Enter your WikiName. (First name and last name, no space, no dots, capitalized, e.g. JohnSmith). Cancel to register if you do not have one.' [16:06]
foswiki_irc2oh yes
it's exactly like that
[16:06]
gac410That's the "realm" okay. So that is the long line that gets stuffed into each entry in htpasswd. hang on a bit [16:06]
***MartinRowe has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving.) [16:08]
gac410Okay - so the apache command is
htdigest -c newHtpasswdFile 'Enter your WikiName. (First name and last name, no space, no dots, capitalized, e.g. JohnSmith). Cancel to register if you do not have one.' WikiName
[16:08]
foswiki_irc2ok [16:09]
gac410That should build you a vaild entry you can edit/paste into the real .htpasswd for user WikiName
to eliminate confusion 1.1.4 deprecates the md5 definition, and calls it htdigest-md5 (but is backwards compatible)
and also adds apache-md5 which is compatible with the -m option of htpasswd command
[16:09]
foswiki_irc2i'm testing your command right now
it worked!
[16:11]
gac410great. [16:14]
foswiki_irc2I used "htdigest -c %filename% 'Enter your WikiName. (First name and last name, no space, no dots, capitalized, e.g. JohnSmith). Cancel to register if you do not have one.' %WikiName%"
your command but with a space after the realm
thank you very much for your help!
[16:15]
gac410you're welcome. hm. I thought I had a space there. Anyway - glad it worked. [16:15]
foswiki_irc2i'll tell the user and get them to set a new password
wonder if this should be documented as a possible way to reset passwords if email isn't available or doesn't work
[16:17]
gac410Sure - Could go as a support question / answer if you want to write something up. [16:19]
Strange. When I run FoswikiSuite on 1.1, I get Running VCMetaTests *** No tests in VCMetaTests Running VCStoreTests *** No tests in VCStoreTests
But run the VC tests individually and they work fine.
Same problem on trunk. recreate by running tests for "VC" it runs the meta, and finds no tests in Store. Looks like a bug in the test framework?
When tests consist of only verify_ and no test_ routines.
[16:25]
BabarBabar hides
as it's probably a bug I introduced...
[16:29]
gac410well at least the bug is consistent between 1.1. and trunk :-)
good news is at least I'm not finding out-of-sync tests that point out regressions or missed fixes in trunk or release11
The ones that fail seem to be pretty much by design. Though my commits of changes are growing

gac410yeah - that's the problem. So the csrf checking should just work. not sure why you are running into troubles. You get this for *every* save attempt?
It will occur if you use back button to "save again" - that's normal
[20:08]
foswiki_irc1With Firefox on any page. With Epiphany there are no problems.
Sorry stupid question, but where can I find the "suspicious change" checking. I will try it.
[20:10]
gac410configure Security tab, "Validation" method. Not recommended to disable. But you could do it as a test. It would be better to understand why this isn't working.
foswiki_irc1: could there be a network web cache somewhere between you and the server that is caching some of the old scripts?
[20:11]
foswiki_irc1Disable the check helps, but its not "the" solution. [20:14]
Babarhum, wasn't there some issue with javascript local caching? [20:14]
gac410Ok Babar, I stand corrected. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_request_forgery Best to not disable the foswiki checking. [20:14]
Babaroh, but if he emptied his cache... [20:14]
gac410yeah. that has me puzzled as well. Or something like noscript that's blocking the scripts would do it as well. [20:15]
foswiki_irc1Clear the cache doesn help. [20:15]
gac410And no firefox extensions like noscript that might be blocking that particular script. [20:16]
foswiki_irc1noscript is deactivated and cookies are allowed on the wiki [20:16]
gac410Okay Babar, I'm running out of ideas. And yet it works with gnome epiphany [20:18]
BabarBabar has an epiphany
compressed files?
[20:19]
foswiki_irc1What do you mean with compressed files? [20:21]
gac410It's a new install ... hm. foswiki_irc1 did you copy the contents of pub/System or data/System to the new server?
You should not have copied either of them - maybe it brought over some stale compressed versions of javascript files?
[20:21]
foswiki_irc1No, I copied only my own webs. [20:23]
Babarhum... and the server's setup is simple?
like just one server, serving files locally?
[20:25]
foswiki_irc1The server provides multiple sites. It's an apache. With foswiki 1.0 we had never problems. [20:28]
gac410So you've set up a new vhost for foswiki 1.1.3 vs. foswiki 1.0? Could pub be pointing at the wrong location? [20:29]
foswiki_irc1It's a new configuration file from the debian installer. So I believe thats not the problem.
I switched the validation mode to embedded. It works. Is there any known problem with this mode?
[20:33]
gac410Not that I know of - but this points to some sort of javascript issue - the StrikeOne method really ought to work just fine. [20:35]
Babarserver isn't https? [20:36]
foswiki_irc1Not for me at the moment :(
Yes, it is
Is this a problem?
[20:36]
Babarand everything is https?
I mean, don't you load the JS in http, and the page in https?
[20:37]
foswiki_irc1Should be. [20:37]
Babarcan you please check the generated page?
I saw some strange behavior with that... that sites wouldn't load http JS
[20:37]
foswiki_irc1The wiki is in a https only area. From a former installation I have PermittedRedirectHostUrls with http only. [20:39]
Babarbut what's your configuration?
for...
DefaultUrlHost?
[20:40]
foswiki_irc1https [20:40]
Babargac410: you know, what's used to build PubUrl :) [20:40]
gac410yeah - defaultUrlHost - I think that's right [20:40]
Babarok
damned
all idea I come up with end up in nothing :(
[20:41]
foswiki_irc1Sorry :( [20:41]

gac410foswiki_irc1: You don't have anything funky going on with reverse proxies or anything that is modifying url? [20:46]
Babaror stripping out some stuff
but that wouldn't explain why it works with epiphany
[20:46]
gac410Also, I think Babar asked earlier - but if you look at the page source, or the requests from the browser, is there anything http: where you expect https. [20:47]
foswiki_irc1Not that I know. The question is, why does Epiphany works withou problems ;-) [20:47]
Babaryes, I asked, but I don't think I had an answer [20:47]

gac410I vaguely remember some bug at one point where <base> url was being set incorrectly. but it was ages ago probably 1.0.x timeframes.
Are you using NatEditPlugin or anthiing other than the default plain text or TinyMCE editors?
[20:49]
foswiki_irc1All wiki internal links are https.
NatEditPlugin is installed but not used
[20:52]
gac410That shouldn't cause issues then - there is an open bug report that with nat edit, subsequent saves after first fail due to strikeone. [20:54]
.... (idle for 17mn)
foswiki_irc1: one other thing to check - are you getting any errors at all reported either by the browser in the javascript error log, or by the server for not found files or other similar errors.
Other than that I'm pretty much out of ideas.
[21:11]
foswiki_irc1Ok. I thank all of you. The embedded mode works for me for the moment. I wish all of you a good night. [21:13]
