pharveycool :) [02:32]
gac410would be nice to have unit tests - but I'm not all that energetic. [02:33]
pharveyLet's just ship 1.1.4 :)
The remaining releaseblockers can be fixed in plugin updates.
[02:42]
gac410I'll look at building 1.1.4 Beta tomorrow. Wish Lavr was around to bless this all. And I'd like CDot to bless my fix to Item8647 [02:45]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item8647 [ Item8647: TablePlugin generates empty tfoot, even when there are footer rows ] [02:45]
pharveyCDot's gone to China for a month :/ [02:47]
gac410Wow - I guess I can't wait for him then. :-( [02:48]
pharveyI just had a quick look at your commits... not knowing the code, it looks sane to me :) [02:50]
gac410Yeah I was more concerned about the client-side table handler issues - which I don't have to test [02:51]
pharveyclient-side?
Damn, why is $session->{user} undef >:(
oh, because of the tests..
[02:52]
gac410I assume cdot was dealing with javascript. The html all looks fine to me. [02:55]
pharveyTablePlugin doesn't have JS does it?
you mean with EditRowPlugin, JQTablePlugin, etc?
[02:56]
gac410no idea. That's why I wanted his input. The task wasn't all that specific. [02:57]
pharveyahh, I see
so the output matches his expected output, roughly?
[02:58]
gac410yes I think so. At least there is no longer an empty tfoot. And some other issues I noticed with mis-placed sort links are fixed too. [02:59]
pharveygac410: do you have a minute to sanity check something for me? I feel as if a TopicUserMapper test referencing Item10176 is actually validating incorrect behaviour [03:05]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item10176 [ Item10176: Groups expansion leaks supposedly DENYed information ] [03:05]
gac410IIRC there were some cases we decided we couldn't support. Which test exactly? [03:06]
pharveyTopicUserMappingAsGuestTests::verify_secretGroupIsHidden [03:06]
gac410okay hang on ... [03:06]
pharveythe test name is misleading, because actually it asserts that ALL groups (hidden or not) are returned from a SEARCH
whereas just below, verify_secretGroupIsHiddenFromGROUPINFO checks for something different (list of groups, minus the hidden ones)
[03:07]
gac410Ah - yeah the GROUPINFO macro does the filtering . Have to read it a bit. [03:08]
pharveythat's fine
I'm just massively confused why SEARCH shouldn't do the same
[03:09]
gac410Hm. are you looking at release11 or trunk? [03:10]
pharveytrunk
line 286 of TopicUserMappingAsGuestTests.pm
[03:10]
gac410AdminGroup,AmishGroup,BaptistGroup,BottomGroup,MultiLineGroup,TopGroup' is the list verified on release11 - no secret groups there. [03:11]
pharveygawd
pharvey digs around release branch
[03:11]
***MartinCleaver has quit IRC (Quit: MartinCleaver) [03:11]
gac410yeah tests are different. The SMELL is not a test for Search but for Func: That's an internal API and SHOULD expose all groups otherwise mailercontrib, etc. might have troubles.
But SEARCH should definitely be hidden.
[03:13]
pharveywtf [03:13]
gac410Yeah something is strange here. [03:14]
pharveyokay; thanks anyway, I'm not stuck any more at least :)
gac410: It was you! :P Foswikirev:11204
[03:14]
FoswikiBothttp://trac.foswiki.org/changeset/11204 [ Changeset 11204 – Foswiki ] [03:15]
gac410Yeah - I'm wondering if I changed the wrong test. [03:16]
pharveyItem10176 [03:16]
gac410The comment says it's a Func test, but the test really is a search.
search should hide, func should show.
[03:16]
pharveyCool
I'll restore it to how it was then
MetaCache broke these tests because it wasn't multiuser safe
broke it for SEARCH, I mean (the cache got poisoned with topics the auth'd user shouldn't be able to view)
[03:17]
gac410Thats the risk of the forked unit tests - they get tweaked to pass. vs. expected failure. The secret groups should not have been there. Should have been an expected failure .
And it was me :-( foo.
[03:21]
pharveythat's ok. I guess this means my adjusted MetaCache code fixed the bug :) [03:25]
gac410excellent.
I Diff'd all the UnitTestContrib tests between trunk and release11 - forgot to to the tests in the individual extensions
[03:25]
pharveynifty! - all tests passed :) [03:27]
gac410If I build 1.1.4Beta tomorrow and name it as a real build- any thoughts on where to upload it? put it up on foswiki.org in user directory?
If that goes well then we need Lavr to do a real RC - unless someone else has the sourceforge info and gpg signing keys
[03:33]
pharveyYeah, I think that will do. I think it's Babar, WillNorris, Lavr, SvenDowideit IIRC [03:34]
.... (idle for 17mn)
yay, FoswikiSuite passes

pharveyMichaelDaum: what do you think about replacing chili [08:32]
MichaelDaumpharvey, seems to be a must as chili is pretty dead & limited in its capabilities [08:32]
pharveyhttp://www.steamdev.com/snippet/ seems pretty cool, but uses shjs which isn't very active. On the bright side... shjs can work with GNU src-highlite .lang files
probably the most future-proof solution is to just use google's code-prettifier, but... I didn't see any doc for writing new lang files
[08:34]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum just learned that jquery.tmpl is discontinued with its successor JsViews + JsRender being still in flux ...
agreed
[08:35]
pharveywhat do you think of a pseudo-jqplugin? %JQREQUIRE{"prettycode"}% ? and then it could load the "real" prettifier, chili or shjs or google c-p [08:36]
MichaelDaumnother candidate: http://ace.ajax.org/ [08:36]
pharvey(or whatever) [08:36]
MichaelDaumya, I like that idea.
jquery, i.e. jquery-ui zigzag too often for my taste. so some kind of encapsulation does make sense.
[08:37]
pharveyindeed
I think Chili's broken because of a new regex engine in FF7 & webkit
a couple of bug reports about it on bugs.mozilla - the new behaviour is "more correct", so it's a wont-fix
but I couldn't actually confirm if this was the real cause
ooh, ace has bracket-chasing. Nice :)
[08:38]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum gets an excited shiver down the spinal seeing a vim input mode at http://ace.ajax.org/build/kitchen-sink.html
... if only it would work
[08:40]
pharveyyeah, I was about to say: didn't seem finished to me :)
I really liked http://codemirror.net/ - has autocomplete
and a nice full-screen mode
[08:41]
MichaelDaumyay
codemirror and ace have been on my radar for quite some time making natedit pluggable at the backend
[08:43]
pharveymight be overkill for highlighting [08:44]
MichaelDaumhey if it is loaded anyway for inline-editing [08:44]
pharveyseems nice & active
better doc than google's thing
[08:45]
MichaelDaumnot sure which one to use: ace or codemirror. what do you think?
browser compatibility is an important issue. though foswiki should become serious abandoning ie6
even ie7 is rotten
[08:45]
pharveyfixing ie7 bugs is almost as much effort as ie6
hmm
it would be nice to make it pluggable
github uses ace
and there's a #ace freenode IRC channel :)
[08:47]

MichaelDaumwhatever is easier to implement a wikiwyg editor with [08:52]
pharveyindeed.
I've stopped looking - neither projects had a "here's how you write a new mode" doc
that's the only reason I wrote a shjs .lang - there were clear instructions
[08:53]
MichaelDaumguess there is enuf example code [08:54]
pharveyprobably
shjs/src-highlite also seem to support nested structures in a more robust way than google code-prettifier

FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item8647 [ Item8647: TablePlugin generates empty tfoot, even when there are footer rows ] [19:41]
LavrPretty old bugs those blockers [19:42]
gac410Also for a beta, I'm assuming I don't actually build/upload core extensions - that only happens with the real thing. [19:42]
LavrMost of the extensions in foswiki have been point released along the way
I do not release them all in betas and RCs
[19:42]
gac410yeah - Unfortunately the chili project died, so the syntax highlighter needs to be rebuilt. The wysiwyg data loss is concerning, but rather arcane - using the Ctrl-s key to save. [19:43]
LavrYes [19:44]
gac410I was wondering about extension numbering. For core extensions it would be nice if they semi-tracked the core release, like 1.1.4.0 for a core extension released with 1.1.4. But not touching them for now. [19:44]
LavrHow dead is chili? Not working at all? [19:44]
gac410Fails on newest firefox and mac, or is it opera. Content disappears in places. [19:45]
LavrPeople will pull our balls off if we change release numbers on extensions and goof the upgrade mechanism
And noone will reward us if it goes well
We have a ton of TML examples shown in chili
[19:45]
gac410yeah - agreed. :-) But if converting an extension from a Date release 23 Jan 2011 ... to a dot-rev release. there is a one-time transition. So far the versions have been a bit random.
Right - pharvey suggested a generic wrapper that could use highlighter-of-your-choice rather than wedding ourselves again.
The hard part is writing the rules for TML
[19:46]
LavrI would not go for a 4 level version scheme. It does not really add anything
And changing from date to X.Y.Z I would wait for a minor or major release where upgrading is not just applying upg package
[19:47]
gac410we just let extensions have asynchronous versions then rather than trying to tie to the 1.0.x 1.1.x release. Yup. I'm not going th change anything at this point. Needs a proposal
Back to beta. So build 1.1.4-beta1, "name" the release in the build script, which does a checkin on svn. Tag? (I've never done that part)
[19:49]
LavrIt never bothered me that the versions are following their own pace. And I do not recall any pressure for it from endusers [19:50]
gac410And for private beta we don't need to gpg sign or upload. [19:50]
LavrNo i never signed betas [19:50]
gac410svn tag or not? [19:50]
LavrAnd i normally only tag releases [19:51]
gac410okay. good.
My plan then if all is quiet, to build later today, and then install it tomorrow (16 or so hours from now) once the caches have all expired.
[19:51]
LavrIn a global context there is never a morning or night :-)
But we know asia/pacific is the region with least visible users
[19:52]
gac410btw I have a proposal Foswiki:Development/ImproveStatisticsHandlingForMissingTopics - that could use some feedback since it impacts the distribution. I have it all completed in a private branch [19:53]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Development/ImproveStatisticsHandlingForMissingTopics [ ImproveStatisticsHandlingForMissingTopics ] [19:53]
gac410I've been pretty much ignoring the timezones - more want the Expires tags to be low. I've dropped it from 17 Hours to 17 Minutes. And that runs out around 12 hours from now. [19:54]
LavrAh. Good move [19:54]
gac410Config was 17 Days - so I started the countdown ... 17 days ago. [19:55]
LavrWith respect to web statistics. It is not a big issue in practical. It is only the main web where people may use the feature
All other webs are some they created and they are not overwritten
[19:55]
gac410Well - maybe Sandbox. [19:55]
LavrI doubt anyone care for stats in sandbox. I cannot remember if I exclude that topic in my upg packs [19:56]
gac410in any event - the changes to statistics script were pretty simple. And lets admins easily choose which webs to enable/disable [19:56]
LavrSo proposal is OK but a lot of work for nearly no gain [19:56]
gac410already done though :-D Actually wasn't all that much effort. [19:57]
LavrI would rather spend time on maybe improving them and make them more configurable. Today they are close to useless [19:57]
gac410They also can run a long time and chew up a lot of resources. Since _default has a WebStatistics topic shipped, every web will get them. [19:58]
LavrYes. What people most often want it to track visitors for specific topics or topic groups. Rarely how many edits done as top 10 [19:59]
gac410Figured out some of the very long runing unit tests were because the statistics test was running against the unit test logfile which is never cleared with -clean option.
Anyway ... so as long as I'm not stepping on your toes with 114 that's good.
[19:59]
LavrNot at all. I am happy that the project is not stallling because I decide to take a break
But I am not on my way away from the project and I plan to be in Geneva for the G.A
[20:01]
gac410Yeah always a risk if become too dependent on small number or one individual. That appears to be what happened with chilil we are guessing anyway.
Excellent. I won't be making the trip. But sounds like it will be a good event.
[20:02]
LavrIt is a long and expensive one from US [20:03]
gac410yeah. And I'm not doing this for the money :-)
Maybe if you all would double my salary :-D
[20:03]
LavrSure 180 % salary raise to use
And a V.P. Title if you want one :-)
[20:04]
gac410Do I get keys to the executive washroom? [20:05]
LavrYes. The one with real toilet paper. [20:05]
gac410Actually I'm a little concerned about my fix to SpreadSheetPlugin - I've changed the list processing a bit, especially stripping leading/trailing spaces on elements in a list. But it was broken and inconsistent.
For Item11079
[20:07]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11079 [ Item11079: LISTUNIQUE function of Spreadsheet plugin not working when repeated item is in the beginning or in the end of the list ] [20:07]
LavrOne of the new imported features? [20:08]
gac410I've added a lot of unit tests, but they are all very simple. We really need some good real use cases for the SSP
no.
LISTUNIQUE has been around, but it was inconsistent seemed to miss removing some duplicates. CDot did one fix in 1.1.3. but issue was deeper.
[20:08]
LavrNever used LISTUNIQUE but I see the use for making pull down menus from searches [20:09]
gac410The internal list parser that will combine | a | b,c,d | e | into a,b,c,d,e was sometimes not stripping spaces, so you might get a,( b),c,(d ),e (parens only to show the incorrectly embedded spaces [20:10]
LavrAh. Yes many SSP subs are a put rudimentary. Biggest problem with SSP is multiple use of the macro in the same table row in a search. Results are sometimes unpredictable in that case
How did bit become put???
[20:12]
gac410I'm concerned that nothing on f.o is complex enough to show that I've broken something. And our unit tests are way too simple.
Don't know - I read it and figured out the bit
[20:13]
LavrMaybe I have some test topics. I will try and look at work tomorrow [20:15]
gac410okay great. Thanks. [20:15]
LavrFYI: When I do not code Perl I make music. Like http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=169877
Funny place that icompositions. It is a sort of open source place for music. People send sounds files around the world and collaborate on music. Really cool.
[20:20]
gac410cool. downloading now. [20:21]
LavrA good programmer should consider making a kind of SVN or GIT for music where you can alter track by track. THat would be cool and totally new. [20:22]
gac410Are you performing, or is it computer generated? [20:24]
LavrIt is all made in Logic Pro. I play on a midi keyboard and I use several funny instruments on an iPAD that can send midi. And I sing on a few tracks.
Fun... but very timeconsuming :-)
[20:25]
gac410cool stuff. I have not done anything with music since high school band days :-) [20:29]
LavrI will go back to my current composition I am working on. Classical this time. [20:33]

pharveyHi gac410. I'm a bit torn about the chili problem. I'm wondering if we should even disable chili.
hi leik
[22:32]
leikI have somewhat tested abit now :) [22:33]
pharveydid you see some faster speeds? Or more crashes? :)
Note that I haven't actually done anything to improve the case where the $formfield() is working from a "dynamic" dataform
[22:33]
leikthere's some cleaning up to do.. one of my trouble topics, dataform with searches, are now 2seconds. It's looks much better so far
I'm not done, because of DBQUERY and form.name etc
[22:35]
pharveyah, those are annoying [22:36]
leika normal page, even with lighter searches, are like 600ms [22:36]
pharveyso, it's improved? What was the timing before? [22:36]
leikdont remember right now, it's over midnight.... [22:37]
pharveyhehe
well, I'm glad there's no crashes
[22:37]
leikI have two problems
no wysiwyg.

[22:37]
gac410pharvey - you know that may not be a bad idea - Hm. I suppose maybe a future wrapper module for Chili or other eye-candy could have an option to look at the agent string. [22:38]
pharveygac410: I hate browser sniffing :P I think I'd rather just disable chili [22:39]
leikand utf8 is not ok. [22:39]
pharveygac410: I hope to do some major work on this on the weekend, with a view to having a replacement next week. But I don't want it to delay 1.1.4...
... mainly because I can never predict how much foswiki work I will actually get done
leik: how strange. Does that file exist?
leik: utf8 problems I already know about - for some reason I thought you weren't running utf8
leik: what is your CGI.pm version? Are you running with libcgi-pm-perl
also... what is your FCGI.pm version
[22:39]
leikoops, CGI 3.48... not latest ( from cpan -D CGI) [22:48]
gac410pharvey - I'm about to build 1.1.4beta1 - we'll run that on f.o for a while, if anything crops up do a beta2 otherwise maybe an RC and go public with it.
One issue - PatternSkin/data/Main/PatternSkinUserViewTemplate.txt For some reason it sitll has a $Rev$ - I thought I removed all them. But after editing the file, git diff is showing a strange reverse video ^M on a couple of the line endings.
[22:49]
pharveyleik: I think >= 3.48 is actually okay... but which FCGI do you have? [22:50]
leikgac410, will you make the beta accessible for download? [22:50]
gac410I don't understand that. Could you look at the file - maybe it has some dos endings? [22:50]
leikFCGI 0.68 (latest is 0.74) [22:50]
gac410leik: I'm not sure - Usually the beta builds are private, and we go public with the Release Candidate builds. I don't have the keys to upload to sourceforge. [22:51]
pharveyleik: try upgrading that. cpan2deb doesn't like it, so you'll need to use cpan tool
gac410: it contains %META:TOPICINFO{author="ProjectContributor" date="1300477710" format="1.1" version="1"}% for me
no strange chars
oh, that's on trunk
[22:51]
leikand voila! [22:54]
pharveygac410: %META:TOPICINFO{author="ProjectContributor" date="1231502400" format="1.1" version="$Rev$"}%
unicode working now? That's awesome news :)
it's only by accident btw... we need to fix Foswiki core to do unicode "properly"
[22:54]
leikthe webleftbar didn't work well before, with , but topic contents was ok
about the tinymce stuff.... editor_plugin.js exists many times but not in a folder path with /foswikiicons/editor_plugin.js
[22:54]
pharveydid you clear browser cache?
There's a new TinyMCE
OH
did you clear .gz files? Those need to be rebuilt
just go into TinyMCEPlugin/pub/System/TinyMCEPlugin
git clean -fdx
then go back to core
and do ./pseudo-install.pl TinyMCEPlugin again
that should refresh the files
(the clear browser cache again)
[22:58]
leiksvn cleanup?
it's a quite fresh install so there was no files before I svn co'd them today

pharveygac410: so, when would be a good time for me to checkin changes that will disable chili [23:10]

pharveyI think so, yes.

pharveyah, cool [23:17]
gac410hm. foswiki.org upload limit won't accommodate the zip/tar files. scp them to the server?
bleh my dsl uplink speed is pretty poor.
[23:25]
pharveyit bothers me our out-of-the-box config has warnings. I think we should add stats script to AuthScripts, and default to sha1
E-mail it to me, and I can scp it for you? ;-)
[23:28]
gac410good point about warnings. I was a bit nervous about changing defaults without more discussion. Adding a warning wasn't as significant.
I wonder how Lavr builds the bullet list of improvements for the Download page. That's a lot of manual editing.
