FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11209 [ Item11209: Store is returning wrong information in history ] [01:22]
gac410No - this was due to CDot's recent rewrite to deal with locally modified files [01:23]
pharveyso I guess it can go straight to closed without collecting $200 [01:23]
gac410yeah - I think so. Though it was a bug in the Beta - so maybe it should be documented. [01:24]
pharveycool [01:24]
gac410tbh considering this one I suspect a beta2 may be in order. Though I'd like to fix a few more of the urgents.
but with no hint of translation activity, I'm not sure what to do.
[01:25]
rjzmmlpharvey, gac410 I played with that a few months ago and was pretty impressed. I think it would be great if the front page of this http://www.fallacyfiles.org/taxonomy.html were turned into a wiki and the front page were made from graphviz
Or rather the entire thing was turned into a wiki
[01:27]
pharveyrjzmml: looks like it's ripe for turning into OWL/RDF to be inferenced over ;-)
pharvey cackles maniacally
actually, we're turning out wiki pages into RDF so that these links can be re-used outside of the wiki.
It's important for valuable data like this not to be "trapped" in one form or another.
[01:29]
rjzmmlI hope they didn't manually create all the clickmaps, and the information may be stored in a format usable for some engine [01:31]
pharveyBut the tedium in getting the modeling right for biological taxonomies seems to be excruciating - just getting "blue butterflies are butterflies" can be non-trivial
well, if they have a CSV or XML or something, I can help point you in the right direction to get it imported into a Foswiki (and also build a SEARCH that will reproduce the original csv/xml).
[01:31]
gac410pharvey, do you know - do groups have to end in Group in all mappers? or is that a TopicUserMapping requirement [01:33]
pharveygac410: I've only ever used TopicUserMapping. However, I'm 99% sure I've seen tasks/discussions/ML posts about users having non-conforming group names coming from LDAP [01:34]
gac410yeah - so Item11208 might be more difficult to fix. [01:34]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11208 [ Item11208: Creating new group without "Group" at the end does not return an error ] [01:34]
pharveyargh. Hrm. [01:36]
gac410I wonder if TopicuserMapping::addUserToGroup were to throw an error - what would happen. I guess I'll find out :-) [01:36]
pharveyis that function being called? The add-group functionality is just a wiki-app AFAIK
Probably, the create-group action needs to be done via a rest handler, rather than /bin/save
the user mapper would provide the rest handler
[01:37]
gac410no - it does a post to manage, which calls to UI::Register::addUserToGroup which calls Func::addUserToGroup which calls the mapper addUserToGroup [01:39]
pharveyah, that rings a bell
gac410: if you're going to add a test... confirm we're preventing anybody from being added to NobodyGroup
pretty please ;-)
pharvey hides
[01:39]
gac410This gets back to Item11196 - There is **NO** error feedback from the topicUserMapper. If it doesn't like something it just returns 0. [01:43]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11196 [ Item11196: Better error feedback from TopicUserMapper and UI::Register ] [01:43]

gac410Should BaseGroup allow new users? I though that was supposedly only the BASE users [01:52]
***foswiki_irc7 has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 265 seconds) [01:54]
pharveygac410: basegroup should not allow new users [01:57]
gac410okay - easy to add a throw Error::Simple ... unfortunately Register.pm just logs it and tells user that "there was an error, thank you for playing, have a nice day"
Though I think this one needs a Lavr review - He has all sorts of non-standard examples that we break when enforcing things.
[01:58]
okay pharvey - very easy to throw errors. Create group not ending in Group, Add or Remove users from BaseGroup or NobodyGroup
Now to figure out how to get a meaningful message back to the user.
[02:06]
pharvey... probably means more xgettext :) [02:07]
gac410well - right now it throws an error with literal message. Needs to change to using Maketext, or better yet put the messages into a template file somewhere/somehow [02:08]
pharveywell, silent failures suck [02:12]
gac410The mapper is full of " if blah return 0" code - Some are okay as warnings - for example we don't want to clobber a new user when adding user to groups during registration if the group is not updateable. [02:14]

gac410ugh - the problem with adding "throw" to the TopicUserMapper, is that all of the other mappers ought to throw the same errors. If this has any hope of consistency across mappers. [03:35]
dj_segfaultHi. I'm trying to set up registration approvals following http://foswiki.org/System/ManagingUsers#Manually_approving_registrations I mostly understand it, except for "6. Edit your Main.SitePreferences topic and enable the new skin, and set the %REGISTRATIONAPPROVAL% and %REGISTRATIONAPPROVALEMAIL% variables". What does it mean to set those variables? What do I set them too? [03:37]
gac410See the sample in that topic. They are the name and email address to receive the "request for approval" message
To: %REGISTRATIONAPPROVAL% <%REGISTRATIONAPPROVALEMAIL%>
so for example APPROVAL = Security Officer, APPROVALEMAIL = security@company.com to get
To Security Officer <security@company.com> in the email headers
[03:39]
dj_segfaultgac410: OK, lemme look closer. thanks. [03:41]
gac410Right below the list of steps is the sample email message where the variables are used - unless the Chili highlighter is hiding stuff in your browser [03:41]
dj_segfaultgac410: No, I understand what you're saying now. Though there is a problem on that page. The last grey box below the Site Preferences header just says "om". When I view without formatting there's a whole lot more there, including a verbatim. Should I enter an issue for that? [03:45]
gac410No - Thats the Chili highlighter. Firefox 7? It's regex handling in javascript is broken. [03:46]
dj_segfaultYes, Firefox 7 on Ubuntu. Usually I like chili ;) [03:46]
gac410Yeah - its badly broken. On ff7 and safari as well I believe. Item11051 [03:47]

gac410pharvey and MichaelDaum are looking at converting to a different highlighter - but it's a lot of work writing the rules to highlight tml. [03:48]
dj_segfaultI can imagine. [03:48]
pharveywe'll probably kill chilli in 1.1.4
unless I can get ace or codemirror working this weekend... but it's a bit late
[03:49]
gac410though now in this case it appears that chili is a victim of broken js [03:49]
dj_segfaultAt $DAYJOB our front end is Flex/Flash, which I like less every time I use it. There are so many great JavaScript libraries today. [03:50]
pharveyI do wish jQuery would stop breaking old code [03:50]
dj_segfaultBut being different for each vendor and highly untyped does make it hard too. [03:50]
pharveyjQuery thinks nothing of breaking old code even in patch releases
I can only hope it'll get more stable as the landscape of webdev... "matures"
[03:50]
dj_segfaultThat would happen a lot faster if the JavaScript engines in the browsers were more alike. [03:52]
pharveyThat's a separate issue. I strongly believe the culture of ad-hoc changes in the jQuery project are unnecessarily adding to maintenance burden
OTOH the breaking changes aren't bad in themselves
[03:53]
dj_segfaultI feel the same pain with Linux distros. They're replacing tried and true ways of doing things with alpha-level code, and simplifying interfaces with no "expert mode". [03:54]
pharveyit's just utterly time consuming that there seems to be little concern for maintaining existing codebases using the old API.
you mean Ubuntu? ;-)
(and gnome3).
pharvey went back to Debian after trying out ubuntu for nearly 2 years because of this.
[03:54]
dj_segfaultGot it in one. But Fedora is starting to do the same thing. I may have to move back to KDE. Can't stand Gnome 3 or Unity. [03:58]

dj_segfaultHow does one delete a user? [04:33]
gac410we don't have a formal mechanism - also depends on mapper and password manager in use.
For topicUserMapper - move use topic to trash, edit WikiUsers and delete the entry, and carefully edit .htpasswd to remove user.
But if user has made changes, their name will still be associated with topic history. And a new person registering will "gain" their history.
[04:34]

In the process of setting up manually approved registrations, I lost the menu of options on the left of every page. This is sooper critical to get back, since there's no way to get into the web I created without it. Any clues what I could have done wrong? cgratzlSSL __proxy__ : I can't use mod_rewrite. This is a proprietary SSL gateway (Sonicwall SSL-VPN). The SSL gateway redirects the traffic to the internal wiki server and generates URLs like
Internal URL: https://wiki.example.org/bin/view
External URL: https://ssl-vpn.example.org/go/https://wiki.example.org/bin/view
This works well except for the generation of URLs pointing to CSS files. Here the URLs seem to
be broken and look like:
https://ssl-vpn.example.org/go/https://wiki.example.org/bin/view/Main//pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/layout.css
When accessing the wiki from the intranet everything looks fine. Why is "/bin/view/Main/" added to the URL?
Where are those URLs generated? What can I do to fix this behavior?
Any idea?
[10:22]
SvenDowideitbasically, it means that the proxy isn't doing its job
if _it_ is supposed to re-write the urls, then it needs to also re-write the html
oh harumpf.
thats a pretty dumb bug in sonicwall
its re-writing urls of the type src="/something" as though they were relative to the page, not the root
ie, it is incorreclty looking that the html and treating all non-http:// style links as though the had no leading /
[10:30]
cgratzlThe strange thing is: The *content* (text) is rewritten correctly and all links to wiki words work as well, only the CSS are wrong... [10:34]
SvenDowideiti would start by reporting it - because that is incorrect behaivour
i wonder if they manage to re-write @import() statemebts in css right :/
ok, workaround _might_ be
look at the Skin settings on System.DefaultPlreferences and Main.SitePreferences
looking at http://foswiki.org/Main/SitePreferences
we use non-hostname specified paths when we can, so that it works across domains
(as we have more than a few)
if you change things like Set FOSWIKI_LAYOUT_URL = /pub/System/PatternSkinThemeFatWilly/layout.css
to use the fully qualified url
then it should work around this bug/misconfiguration in sonicwall
yay - i did something worthwhile today :)

Are you using Short URLs? If so did you set the view url path correctly in configure
$Foswiki::cfg{ScriptUrlPaths}{view} needs to be blanked out if you are using short urls. Otherwise all the anchors reload the page.
[13:51]
leikconfig is from apacheconfig generator...mostly [13:54]
gac410So if you enabled Use Short URLs, then you need to make sure your LocalSite.cfg agrees with that decision :-)
Look at your URL bar - is it missing the "bin/view" ? then hover over an anchor, does the link have a bin/view?
If they don't agree, you will get the reloading.
[13:54]
leikchecking...
puhh.....thank you gac410 :)
[13:56]
gac410Then check configure -> General Path Settings -> {ScriptUrlPaths}{view} and see the instructions there for short urls
Unfortunately configure can't really warn in a checker, because the configure url is not shortened, so it has nothing to check against. And the server redirects for you, so the problem is a bit invisible
SvenDowideit: Any feedback on my store fixes. I get **really** nervous touching that code. It was two issues.
RcsLite was badly broken, RcsWrap and Lite were somewhat broken. :-) At least the unit tests pass and trunk looks okay.

gac410And another day another question... anyone here know a good way of testing the svn post-commit hook? It really needs to maintain TOPICINFO when updating tasks to keep store happy. [14:06]

jayen: I answered your question on Item9587. you can ignore the warning. The checker is confused by installing foswiki under a ../data/.. higher in the path. Fixed in Item10784 [14:36]

gac410SvenDowideit: Can you think of any reasons not to throw an error in addUserToGroup for: Changing NobodyGroup or BaseGroup, or Creating a Group that does not end in "Group"
Eventually I want to change every "return 0" in that routine to throw an Error::Simple - and catch and handle in Register.pm. But that would be a lot of string changes to do it right, so postponing for post 1.1.4
This silent failure stuff is really painful.
