WhoWhatWhen
dj_segfaultGood evening. Is there a way of making a table sort on two columns (ie, column 3 then column 2 inside column 3)? TablePlugin and EditTable look like they just sort on one column. [01:11]
gac410I don't believe so - I think there is actually a feature request or task languishing around somewhere for that feature.
Item5976
[01:12]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item5976 [ Item5976: TablePlugin needs to be able to do double column sorting ] [01:12]
dj_segfaultAh. Just celebrated it's second birthday!! I have a sucky workaround I want to try where I use SpreadsheetPlugin to $CALC{} the concatenation of the other columns into a SORTKEY column, but it would be a bit ugly. [01:14]
gac410Although really table sorting should probably be done on the client side using javascript instead of re-generating the page from th eserver. [01:14]
dj_segfaultThere is at least one client-side sorting extension, but the docs were pretty useless so I didn't even try it. Agreed that would be ideal, though.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure my sort column idea would work, because the sorting may happen before the macros are evaluated.
Worth a try though.
Thanks.
[01:15]
gac410Hm I hope it would work (your calc idea) otherwise you could never sort on a calculated column. But I don't know for sure. [01:18]
dj_segfaultLemme try it now. In the name of SCIENCE! [01:18]
uhh stupid question. the EDITTABLE tag takes the format as format="|foo|". CALC takes its expression as a string. You can't have double quotes within double quotes. Do I escape the double quotes for the CALC expression, or use single quotes? [01:25]
gac410I think you can escape quotes inside quotes using either \" Or $quote (or is it $quot ) I never get this straight. Usually takes several tries unless I can find an example to copy. [01:27]
dj_segfaultBrute force it is! [01:27]

[01:38]
gac410hey pharvey - good er.. whatever.
(evening here)
[01:39]
pharvey:)
sadly, I'm busy most of today
I have fixes working for Item11185
[01:39]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11185 [ Item11185: can't attach filenames with unicode chars in it ] [01:42]
gac410gac410 attempting to write unit tests for FindElsewherePlugin [01:42]
pharveybut need to feel more confident before I commit :) [01:42]
dj_segfaultgac410: Looks like inserting a $CALC() is not working, because it's getting evaluated at the time of insertion, where there is no concept of a current row, instead of the $CALC itself being put in that column.
For the record, I had to use $quot
[01:49]
gac410Try delaying with $dollarCALC ? [01:49]
dj_segfaultI don't see that on SpreadsheetPlugin. And STFWiki returns zero (or is it zed where you are?) results. That is that? [01:52]
gac410yeah $dollar is a formatted search thing - used to delay expansion of search tokens. hm. Did you mean $CALC or %CALC. [01:56]
dj_segfaultSo on the off chance that there's a much better way of doing what I'm trying to do, lemme give some background. I run the IT group for a nonprofit user group, http://www.agilenewengland.org I currently maintain our task backlog in a table in our PMWiki instance. We want to move to Foswiki. So I have a table with like 10 columns, including task status and task UID. I want the table sorted in status+UID order. [01:57]
gac410If percent, try delaying that with $percnt [01:57]
dj_segfaultYeah %CALC. I'll try $percnt. [01:57]
gac410That will cause the %CALC to be expanded in the search results instead of in the search macro. [01:58]
***pharvey has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 276 seconds) [02:02]
...... (idle for 25mn)
dj_segfaultgac410: I have it VERY close. My status column (column 5) values have a number, then a space, then a word. I only need the number for sorting. When I try %CALC{"$LEFTSTRING($T(R$ROW():C5),1)"}% it returns an empty string. I tried SUBSTRING too.
But there's a larger problem which I doubt can be fixed: Even if I get the table sort right, when the user clicks on the Edit button to edit the table, the rows will be in the order they were saved in, not the sort order, which will infuriate my users. In fact, this is a problem for even normal sorting on one field.
[02:27]
gac410I'll have to play around with it a bit. But yes, editing will be in native format - unless you try something like EditRowPlugin, where you just edit a single row? [02:30]
dj_segfaultThat's a possibility. Lemme look into that. [02:30]
gac410dj_segfault: Your %CALC works fine on foswiki.org - see http://foswiki.org/Sandbox/KnowYourTables
(I hijacked a topic of crawfords - ignore the other table.
[02:37]
dj_segfaultMust be some other ugly interactions going on. Just installed editrow, trying it now.
Thanks for the test though.
[02:44]

gac410dj_segfault: Doesn't work on 1.1.3 - definitely something that I probably fixed in 1.1.4 - [02:50]
dj_segfaultgac410: What doesn't work on 1.1.3? [02:51]
gac410It is smart enough to take precedence. you don't have to de-install.
That LEFTSTRING thing I tested for you.
No output on 1.1.3 - works on 1.1.4 beta 2
[02:51]
dj_segfaultAh. OK. So that is not an indication of my insanity (though certainly not indication of its non-existence) [02:52]
gac410Need position 2 on 1.1.3. There was a bug in the list handling where it was inconsistent in removing leading/trailing spaces.
which probably means that users who empirically "fixed" the forumula on 1.1.3 - will have breakage on 1.1.4. :-(
[02:52]
dj_segfaultIs a bug already filed on LEFTSTRING? [02:57]
gac410I'm not sure where the bug was - There were some deep issues in the code that parsed cells and ranges - leaving spaces at times.
Item11079 was the task that exposed the leading space issues.

gac410The unit tests for SpreadSheetPlugin are very limited - I added a lot of tests, and I just added your case. LEFTSTRING works fine. The issue is that it tests LEFTSTRING without any context of other table cells. [03:06]
dj_segfault: I'm going to open a task for your LEFTSTRING issue - It is significant enough that it should be documented. [03:11]
dj_segfaultAgreed. Still working on EditRow. First attempt didn't work.
Hmm I copied and pasted in the exact example from the EditRowPlugin page, and clicking on the pencil edits the row, but when I click on the disk to save the changes are lost. Is it possible that's not working with 1.1.3 either?

CDotyep, looks like it. but I'm interested in how our councillors got the perception that the German people accepted these plants without any complaints. Perhaps the alternative was too horrible to contemplate? [10:39]
Babarwhat alternative?
Germany passed laws to regulate emissions from these plants
they shall not emit anything, more or less, so it's a good way to get rid of waste. And some even re-use the heat made by the burning to produce energy
