484015951 <@pharvey> Babar: the foswiki log directory is owned by root... foswiki can't create the new december logfile
he meant the data/ where it creates the warn201112.txt and so on
[02:32]
gac410ah foo - did I do that during my upgrade? [02:33]
Babarmaybe we should upgrade foswiki not to use the compatibility layer :)
could be. Haven't looked into it yet
and as it's 3:33am here, I doubt I'll do that now :)
[02:33]
gac410yeah - I wrote a quick script to migrate the log files - but was afraid that I might hurt some other use I didn't know about
sounds like time to sleep for you
When I install 1.1.4RC I'll look at moving off of Compatibility
[02:34]
Babarcool, thanks :)
so I won't have to do that on NYE :)
[02:35]
gac410yeah :-) [02:35]
.... (idle for 15mn)
pharvey - looks like beta2 was installed on 2011-10-31-17:48:32 (server time). So the Nov. 1st rollover worked. I doubt it was the beta install that botched ownership ... but who knows - I may indeed have messed it up somehow [02:50]
pharveyyeah, I don't know. [02:51]
gac410The directory is still owned by wheel group - probably ought to be wwwadmin group
But I'm on cell phone for my data connection - so I'm not touching anything tonight ;-)
I was just in configure today and didn't notice any errors about unable to create logs. But the code checks the working/logs directory even if compatibility is selected and it's using data.
Wonder if it's worth it - in the Implementation checker where it checks for legacy logfile settings - should it extract the log dir used for compatibility and verify file create.

EnriqueCadalsoHi, I just reviewed the spanish translation in http://translate.foswiki.org/es/foswiki/core.po/translate. Corrected some spelling mistakes and style. BTW what is the consensus about "page" vs "topic"? [04:04]
pharveyEnriqueCadalso, consensus? [04:05]
EnriqueCadalsoI found "topic" translated as "pagina" (page) when referring to "user topic". [04:05]
pharveypharvey wished T/Foswiki had never used the word 'topic' :-) [04:05]
EnriqueCadalsome too [04:06]
pharveyAs I only speak english, I probably can't offer any advice
but I think in the english version, we should stick with the Foswiki terminology for now
"user page" probably is easier to understand, though
[04:06]
EnriqueCadalsoWell, I am asking about topic vs page, is the same in spanish (tema vs pagina). [04:06]
pharveyso, there is a conflict: easy to understand, vs introducing inconsistent terminology [04:07]
EnriqueCadalsoThe point is a lot of topics have the word topic (WebTopicList, etc). [04:07]
pharveyyeah
I'd stick with topic..
... until we have the energy to completely change terminology
[04:07]
EnriqueCadalsoIs what I did there, even in user topics.
but was not sure about
[04:08]
gac410As long as it makes sense and is consistent, sounds good to me (as a non-spanish speaker) ;-)
user page / topic, though you don't want to confuse that with the specific user topic that they register.
[04:09]
EnriqueCadalsoAnother question, I found the use of @ character in some cases when the termination of a word was not defined because the gender of the user is not defined. Have the @ character any action defined in the .po files? [04:10]
gac410no idea. If the @ ends up in the text, that could confuse things if Foswiki tries to link it as an email address. [04:11]
EnriqueCadalsoe.g., adicionado is for he, and adicionada es for she, and some previous translator set it to adicionad@.
ok, so the best is to rewrite it so the gender is not relevant, there is always a way, I was just not sure the @ character had any meaning in the MAKETEXT function or somewhere else.
[04:12]
gac410You might want to either ask on the email list, or try back to see if other members of the translation team are around. [04:14]
EnriqueCadalsofor instance, there is the case Dear %1. In spanish is Estimado for a man and Estimada for a woman. They translated it as Estimad@. I believe is better to user Estimado(a). [04:16]
gac410BTW, EnriqueCadalso Thanks for working on the translations. I hope to generate 1.1.4RC on Friday, and if all goes well, the 1.1.4 release early next week. [04:23]

SvenDowideit_it needs to be a 'real feat req' in the Dev web
as its not a bug, we need to docco it and triage/discuss a little

y, i grok, and I _can_ make the matching feat req for you, but I have um, rather too many already, and am not actually geting them completed due to 'certain lifestyle changes' that were born 2.7 years ago
the main reason is to make sure we implement the best feature we can, that adds the least un-necessary maintainence (er, and unit tests and stuff)
and then the dev.feat req is used for the release notes and to docco the 'why did ou do XXX' for future
