harlanIs thre an easy way to upload a new revision of an attachment? [01:41]
gac410Manage attachments and just upload it again? [01:41]
harlanthat;s a new copy though, right?
or does it overrite the old one?
[01:41]
gac410It records the new one using the rcs store, so the old one is still retrievable using viewfile script. [01:42]
harlangood, as long as I don't have multiple copies of the same document. [01:42]
gac410Well - rcs stores a diff, for binary documents the diff is often just another copy. [01:43]
harlanthat;s ok as long as I don;t have multiple copies of the same named document (sort of)
I'll try it now.
[01:43]
gac410Right, there will only be a single copy of the attachment on disk, along with a file named attachment,v So Myfile.zip will get a MyFile.zip,v as the rcs file. [01:44]
harlanOK. Is there a way to rename a file, as in "here's the file to upload and call it XXX once it's there"? [01:45]
gac410hm. need to think about that one. [01:46]
harlan:) [01:46]
gac410If you upload a different named file to an existing attachment, the original name is preserved with the new data.
So you could upload XXX, and then later attach YYY (using the "manage XXX" dialog) and it will still be XXX on the server.
[01:48]
harlanright. [01:50]

Anybody here using the NotificationPlugin besides me? I always use immediate notifications and they work fine but I'm not getting "normal" notifications and I'm not sure why. [02:49]
gac410You mean MailerContrib?
it processes the WebNotify topic in a cron job.
[02:49]
harlanI was wondering if I had to be sure that MailerContrib was working to get basic notification for the NotificationPlugin
I['ll look in a moment...
[02:54]
gac410Hm. I've used ImmediateNotificationPlugin and MailerContrib - not familiar with NotificationPlugin
okay - forget my comments. Totally unfamiliar with NotificationPlugin.
Sometimes we have too many ways of doing things.
[02:55]
harlanYup - I have tried most of them and settled on NotificationPlugin
I'd be happy to see it be the default notification system for FW, replacing the WebNotify page.
mailnotify is working.

gac410pharvey - did you ever get your https vhost question figured out? [05:03]
pharveyoh - yeah, we run http until you need to login, so we're just going to require IE7+ if you want to edit/comment/upload etc. :)
SNI (Server Name Indication) seems to be transparently supported by openssl 0.9.8j+ & apache 2.2.4+ handles ssl name-based vhosts without any extra config effort
[05:04]
gac410Are you using a common cert with subj. alt names? I've got multiple https vhosts and nobody has complained that ie6 has issues. [05:05]
pharveyno, different certs [05:05]
gac410Hm. SNI must be something new? I'll have to read about it. [05:06]
pharveyit's "new" as in, circa 2004 [05:06]
gac410(At least new to me ;-) ) [05:06]
pharveyit seems nobody has been relying on it until recent years
argh, I released to testing web
[05:06]
gac410just read a bit - yeah sni seems quite recent for browser support. I'm sure many of my users are on older IE6 systems. The Subj. Alt name technique works fine but you have to have some trust between vhosts, since they have to share the cert [05:09]
pharveysadly I can't really do that. Sharing the same foswiki instance between more than one institution :/ [05:11]

BabarI think you need to detail more the consequences of moving fully to plack
such as... what happens for people NOT using plack?
using CGI? fastcgi? mod_perl? etc...
and... what happens for perl modules. Like minimum base to get it to work
[12:07]
AndrewJones1They would still be using Plack. If you want fastcgi, you do plackup -s FCGI
so Plack is the only entry point, but you can use any back end

BabarSvenDowideit: as soon as I'll find it back. haven't used it in like 10 years :) [14:11]
padraig_lennon_Issue was actually in the following code:
%MAKETEXT{"Attachments [_1]" args="<span class='foswikiSmall foswikiGrayText'>%QUERY{"length(attachments[NOT lc(attr)=~'h'])"}%</span>"}%
Reverting to not having the argument shows the table again.. I will raise a task for this but what should I raise it against?
Why would the number of attachments have to be part of the MAKETEXT for anyways?
[14:12]
oh to be part of the span..
Final word on this.. It does not like %QUERY{"length(attachments[NOT lc(attr)=~'h'] saying it is using excessive operators.. %QUERY{"length(attachments[NOT lc(attr)~'h'] works though
[14:19]
CDot=~ is not an operator in the query language [14:27]
SvenDowideiter, are you sure?
i thought that was the match operator micha added

and, pretending for a moment that an op does not exist, shouldn't the query parser say so?

SvenDowideitsame for ohloh [15:06]
gac410yeesh - more accounts to remember :-(
How does the $Foswiki variable get declared? Even bin/view references $Foswiki::cfg without any apparent declaration. Or am I blind
Or is $blah:: a special perl thing for the blah package.
CDot - the issue is that once Configure has loaded the $Foswiki:: variable, then no amount of creating a new Foswiki session will reload the config, so variables cannot be expanded.
So any store access with any plugins or contribs will be toasted because of unexpanded variables.
[15:06]
CDot$Foswiki::cfg is a variable called "$cfg" in the Foswiki package (hence Foswiki::
there is no $Foswiki:: variable.....
[15:10]
gac410Ah. okay. learing more perl today I guess :-)
ages ago I "fixed" this issue for the logger when accessing store when installing extensions - by changing the logger itself to look for and expand any path with an unexpanded reference.
[15:11]
CDotI'm not sure what you mean by "unexpanded reference". Do you mean a $Foswiki::cfg references inside a value of another $cfg setting? [15:13]
gac410Yes.
Foswiki::Configure::UIs::EXTEND tries - creates a new Foswiki object, disables cache, but stuff still breaks.
[15:13]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Configure::UIs::EXTEND [ (Foswiki login) PerlDoc ] [15:14]
gac410Because the BEGIN block has already run, and the $Foswiki::cfg is already loaded in an unexpanded form.
Hm. maybe I'm going about it the wrong way - bin/configure needs to treat EXTEND as a full foswiki env. instead of a non-expanded configure run.
[15:14]
CDotin configure, i loaded Foswiki::cfg in different places in different ways. $Foswiki::cfg is (IIRC) "what foswiki will see". The unexpanded env is loaded separately
and then handled via Value objects
[15:16]
gac410Doesn't seem to work that way - $Foswiki::cfg is un-expanded if configure is in control. [15:17]
CDotCDot remembers writing a lot of doc on this, as it's quite complex
yes; Foswiki::cfg *is* unexpanded
the vars are expanded at runtime
[15:17]
gac410So when the EXTEND uses a Foswiki session to checkin a topic, the unexpanded variables break all sorts of stuff.
I added a expandValue() call in Logger/* to "fix" the issue - but other plugins/contribs don't benefit.
[15:18]
CDotFoswiki::Configure::Load::readConfig loads with expansion [15:19]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Configure::Load [ (Foswiki login) PerlDoc ] [15:19]
CDotFoswiki::Configure::FoswikiCfg *does not* expand [15:20]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Configure::FoswikiCfg [ (Foswiki login) PerlDoc ] [15:20]
CDotwhy do you want expanded values, anyway? Configure should only work with unexpanded, except when checking [15:21]
gac410Extension installer. It's not really touching the configure. It's trying to use Store to check in topics, etc. [15:21]
CDothmmm. given that configure has abandoned control by that time, why not just call Foswiki::Configure::Load::readConfig?
that should work *so long as there are no pending saves*
[15:23]
gac410Probably also need to delete $Foswiki::cfg{ConfigurationFinished}; Also how to get the BEGIN block of Foswiki to run.
Can't be any saves - it's entered from bin/configure via a different path. Start of a new transaction.
[15:24]
CDotthe BEGIN block of Foswiki is run whever you do "use Foswiki"
.... whcih will also load the LocalSite.cfg
[15:26]
gac410Hm... actually - if bin/configure for action EXTEND used Load instead of FoswikiCfg - it will be all fixed I think.
Since EXTEND really isn't a real configure run.
[15:26]
gac410 decides: Nothing is ever quite as simple as he wishes. [15:37]
CDotthere are various yaml config engines out there, if you fancy a change. Nothing as sophisticated as configure, tho. [15:48]
gac410no, no way do I want to try to replace configure.
I suppose another tact would be to move the extension installer to a rest handler, or a separate configinstall script - so it becomes more like a standard foswiki environment.
I'll poke at it a bit. I guess the advice for anyone who installs KinoSearch or PublishContrib would be to install extensions from command line.
[15:54]
CDotthat makes a certain amount of sense, though you would have to protect it - only admins etc
which is the original reason I did it in configure
[15:56]
gac410yes, agreed. Don't want to open up any holes. That's for sure.
First I'll see if I can just get the ManageExtensions action to load the configuration fully expanded.
If I can find a simple way to handle it, it would be best for anyone with one of the victim extensions installed to have a simple patch.
[15:57]
padraig_lennon_gac410 - (KinoSearch or PublishContrib) - I get the issue as well and I'm using SolrPlugin. [16:04]
gac410Yeah - it's a generic issue. installing extensions uses Foswiki::Func and Foswiki::Meta to update topics/attachments. Any unexpanded variables causes things to break. [16:05]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Func [ (Foswiki login) PerlDoc ] http://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Meta [ (Foswiki login) PerlDoc ] [16:05]
padraig_lennon_Saying that I only upgraded to 1.1.4 today so haven't seen it yet on this version.. [16:05]
gac410Still there for sure. [16:06]
padraig_lennon_ok.. Not sure if you saw but I found a bug with the attachment tables.. I raised some tasks for it.. Simple fix.. [16:10]
gac410Is it new in 1.1.4 - or also in 1.1.3? [16:10]
padraig_lennon_Didn't see it before 1.1.4 but it seemed to have been there in 1.1.3 as well.. To be honest i'm not sure.. [16:20]
gac410okay - thanks. [16:20]
padraig_lennon_: I think I have a simple fix
Solves a whole bunch of issues I suspect in configure / extension installer. Would you be able to test?
[16:34]
jayen: I think I have a fix for Item11384 - it should expand all the variables so that plugins run during extension installation will be happy. If you could test it that would be great. [16:42]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11384 [ Item11384: LogDirectory not expanded? ] [16:42]
padraig_lennon_yes.. [16:44]
gac410I pasted a diff to Item11384 [16:45]
padraig_lennon_Stupid question.. Whats the command to patch the file patch -p1 configure < diff_file
?
[16:46]
gac410oh... no idea. I usually use vi to put on simple patches. Two lines to add after the else [16:47]
Babarpatch -p1 < diff_file
or -p0
depends the hierarchy :)
[16:47]
gac410will that work with a git diff with the a/ b/ in the filenames [16:47]
Babarthat's -p1 then
1 = number of directories to remove so that the patch applies
[16:48]
gac410ah.
padraig_lennon_: in Item11386: You have 2 copies of "original code" - is one supposed to be the fix?
[16:48]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11386 [ Item11386: Attachment Table not showing in IE because of incorrect QUERY statement in template ] [16:49]
padraig_lennon_Bottom one.. sorry =~ should be just ~ [16:49]
gac410oh - okay. didn't see that
padraig_lennon_: what's wrong with a single character regex match vs. wildcard match?
[16:49]
padraig_lennon_To be honest I do not know. I thought it should have worked too.. When you just paste the QUERY code into a topic I saw the error..
Patch didn't work.. Just tested.. Installed FormPlugin.. no issues. Updated the release version in lib and tried to upgrade again... Still getting Failed to move/copy file '/tmp/wljBFWhb1D/FormPlugin_installer' to /usr/local/foswiki/working/configure/pkgdata/FormPlugin_installer: No such file or directory
[16:52]
gac410oh - that's a different issue - I'm trying to fix the issue with the unexpanded $Foswiki::cfg{} values. [16:54]
padraig_lennon_What do I need to check so? [16:55]
gac410Oh - I guess we were talking about two different issues with your statement "I get the issue too".
I really have no idea why for some people the FormPlugin_installer doesn't copy. It just doesn't make sense.
[16:57]
padraig_lennon_Looks like it.. :(
Ya its not regular either.. Very ad-hoc
[16:57]
gac410What do you mean by " Updated the release version in lib and tried to upgrade again... " [16:59]
padraig_lennon_Current version of FormPlugin is 2.3.0 I edited "lib/Foswiki/Plugins/FormPlugin.pm" to change this to 2.2.0 so it looked like it needed upgrading..
Should just overwrite...
[17:01]
gac410okay - I'll try that too. You on Linux, btw? [17:01]
padraig_lennon_Yup..
RHEL5
[17:03]
gac410gac410 just doesn't get it - working fine here. oohhh.... do you have selinux enabled? [17:04]
padraig_lennon_Nope.. Still don't understand that.. On my todo list :) [17:06]
gac410padraig_lennon_: what error do you get in that QUERY search - it works fine here as =~ [17:11]
padraig_lennon_gQUERY{ "length(attachments[NOT lc(attr)=~'h'])" }: Excess operators (not =) in 'length(attachments[NOT lc(attr)=~'h'])' at ')'
ignore that first g before QUERY.. paste error
[17:12]
gac410padraig_lennon_: That query works fine on foswiki.org - no errors http://foswiki.org/Sandbox/TestAttachmentCount [17:17]
padraig_lennon_Must be something local so.. Weird that it works with the ~ though.. [17:18]
gac410Ah... I know - Missing operator definintion in configuration [17:18]
padraig_lennon_Which is? [17:19]
gac410Make sure your $Foswiki::cfg{Operators}{Query} = [ contains a defintion for Foswiki::Query::OP_match [17:19]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Query::OP_match [ (Foswiki login) PerlDoc ] [17:19]
gac410This is one of those ugly config issues - We really need a checker to flag an out-of-date operator list. [17:21]
padraig_lennon_Yup.. That was missing.. I added it but no luck.. Still the same.. [17:23]
gac410Are you running fastcgi / mod perl? If so need to reload [17:24]
padraig_lennon_Nope.. cgi.. [17:24]
gac410compare your Operators definition to the default in lib/Foswiki.spec
formatting will be different, but the list of operators should match.
[17:25]
padraig_lennon_I added it at the bottom. Aparently there is an order to them.. I added it as the first in the list and it now works.. [17:27]
gac410okay - great. [17:27]
padraig_lennon_Its impossible to edit that list though from configure isn't it? [17:28]
gac410oh.... when you added to the bottom did you add the comma on the previous linke.
I think it's there in an expert config somewhere - looking ...
[17:28]
padraig_lennon_Well yes like an idiot i did but I quickly fixed that and still didn't matter.. so there must be an order to them.. [17:29]
gac410nope - you are correct - completely hidden - [17:31]
padraig_lennon_So what the fix for this for users that are upgrading? Do we need to be able to configure these via bin/configure like the rest? [17:31]
gac410tbh I'm not sure - this is pretty ugly.
If you can't edit, the only way I can think of using configure would be to delete LSC and reconfigure.
[17:31]
padraig_lennon_Kinda is all right.. George thanks for all your help on this. I have to head off here.. Xmas drinks time.. I will catch up on the logs in the morning if you need me for anything. If not have a great Xmas!! [17:32]
gac410Thanks padraig_lennon_ You too! [17:33]
padraig_lennon_Talk soon.. Happy Xmas Foswikiers!! [17:33]
........ (idle for 37mn)
MassoudSGood morning, I am using Foswiki-1.1.3. I am having problem with my SMTP and MailHost. How can I test the email, short of creating a new user? [18:10]
gac410Unfortunately that's about the only way on 1.1.3 that I can think of - hm... or maybe use the mailnotify script - If you are using Net::SMTP, be sure to enable debug in the configurations. [18:11]
MassoudSI guess I am having problems with putting the correct values for my SMTP and MailHost. I am using Godaddy's web hosting and they say to use smpt.secureserver.net. I also used email.mydomain.com and that did not work. The error that I am getting is ERROR: Can't send mail using Net::SMTP. Can't connect to 'smtp.secureserver.net' at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/CGI/Carp.pm line 314. Too many failure sending mail. [18:16]
gac410Yes - that does it. Enable {SMTP}{Debug}, Edit WebNotify in a web with changes and add AdminUser to be notified. Then cd to foswiki/bin directory and run ../tools/mailnotify
You will get the SMTP debug log to stderr. Or enable SMTP Debug, register another user, and look at the web server error logs.
[18:17]
MassoudSWhere do I enable {SMTP}{Debug}? [18:18]
gac410Configure Email and proxy tab. Might be an expert parm. Can't remember. [18:19]
