WhoWhatWhen
SvenDowideitkip3f, I can confirm pharvey's assertion. and Sony - if you're watching irc, you too
gac410, I'm sorry btw
[03:38]
gac410wrong channel [03:38]
SvenDowideitI commited those changes to MANIFEST & DEPs in 1.1 branch and I'm not 100% sure that i've tested it enough to say - yes its perfect
I thought I had more time than i appear too - but we'll see what M-T-W are like
[03:39]
gac410np - [03:39]
SvenDowideiti hope its not, but silly me anyhoo
for the other channel - rar!
[03:40]
kip3fSvenDowideit - what assertion? [03:40]
SvenDowideit<pharvey> kip3f, brilliant work. Every unit test you add, SvenDowideit buys you a beer [03:41]
gac410cool - just need to travel to collect. [03:41]
harlanSvenDowideit: if i'm gonna bring up a new FW site where I plan to use the virtualhostingcontrib thing (and https), should I use apache (which I know well and have config files for) or lighttpd or nginx? [03:41]
SvenDowideitharlan, lalalalala :( [03:42]
kip3f:-) [03:42]
harlan:) [03:42]
SvenDowideitsadly, for us people, yes
either travel, or fix your country
s/us/US/
i'm not fond of the entire country borders thing, so i like the EU-reality
[03:42]
harlanSvenDowideit: did I transgress the unwritten law? Not even a hint? [03:43]
SvenDowideitharlan, nope
i'll expand: I'm an ignerant shit when it comes to non-apache
[03:43]
harlanfair enough - me too.
that works.
[03:44]
SvenDowideitso badly that the apache config generator only does..... :D
mmm, my twitter followership is too small (56)
so asking there if i should get a 7 inch or 10 inch android tablet got no info
anyone here have an opinion that i can consider, discard and then regret?
[03:44]
harlanmine is probably smaller, and I also wonder why folks follow me there where I maybe tweet a handful of times/year. [03:45]
SvenDowideitharlan, thats why :)
i expect that if i start to tweet once a week, i'll lose some of the ones i have
[03:45]
harlanbut I get fairly regular and steady increases in the number of folks who follow me, and a good number of them are apparently real people who might actually care :) [03:46]
SvenDowideityup [03:46]
harlanI'd go for 10", but I also lkike 17" laptops. [03:46]
SvenDowideitgiggle
i had a very nice 15 inch for years
[03:47]
harlanI do not understand tablets and things - not big enough for useful work. [03:47]
SvenDowideitbut now i've gone to 12
y, i don't understand either
and so....
[03:47]
harlanMe too, and I was pleased at how many more windows I could have open when I went to 17". [03:47]
SvenDowideitthough i'm starting to find times i'm sitting on my couch trying to surf on the fone
i like 12" cos its fully portable again
i walk around with it and talk to people
[03:47]
harlanJust upgraded my deskktop monitor to 23". Drooling over the thought of one that is bigger still, but the physical desk is too small. [03:48]
SvenDowideithehe
2x23" is better :p
and the poor 17 next to it
[03:48]
harlanMy 17" Windows laptop was a tolerable bear. My 17" Mac laptop is *way* lighter. [03:48]
SvenDowideitgiggle [03:48]
harlanI'm typing on my 17" mac, with the 23" desktop next to it (with a paused movie on it) [03:48]
SvenDowideitwent to interview somewhere where they had the huge 52inch monstors
and several ppl had 2 of them
bizzarely, the desks were not deep enough, so they had to sit right up against the glass
mmm, time to go ): see you all tomorrow i think
[03:49]
harlanenjoy... [03:50]

pharvey has left [13:39]
pharveyCDot: requirement. <script> shan't exist anywhere in the output prior to expanding the script zone. In your opinion, is a dumb regex scanning for '<script[^>]*>' too dumb? The risk is false positives.' [13:42]
CDotthe obvious false positive is <textarea>
oh, and <!-- <script> --> of course
[13:43]
pharveyaren't < entity encoded as &lt; though? Inside a textarea [13:43]
CDotCDot tries it [13:44]
pharveypharvey thought stand-alone < were illegal in XHTML [13:44]
CDotnope
<literal>
<textarea>
<script>alert("Boo")</script>
</textarea>
</literal>
works just fine, passes the < over in the textarea
you can pass anything in a textarea
[13:46]
pharveyit's supposed to be encoded [13:47]
CDot"supposed to be" and "is" are different
CDot is observing behavious on trunk
[13:48]
pharveyThat is not valid HTML
and if trunk is rendering an edit textarea containing this, it needs to be fixed, damn.
[13:49]
CDotwell, it is
so is Release01x01
[13:49]
pharveyno, I don't see that
you mean a hand-crafted textarea?
or in the edit screen?
[13:50]
CDotCDot typed what you see above directly into a topic [13:51]
pharveypharvey wonders if this is an interesting case which needs to be supported, because the alternative is adding a full SWP to core [13:52]
CDotoooh, I can't edit that topic in the browser
n.m. my editor is up the creek sans paddle
[13:53]
pharveyI'm even tempted to suggest that <!-- <script is boring; the alternative, again, is a proper html parser, because I've noticed browsers can be 'tricked' into ending their comment markup prior to any -->, Eg. ---+++ seems to break them
<!-- commented commented ---+++ not commented ! --> nor is this
anyway, abandoning consciousness
[13:56]
...... (idle for 26mn)
CDotso, SafeWikiPlugin has the ultimate safety feature. It criplpes edit. [14:24]
BabarBabar was trying to edit pages with TinyMCE, pages with JS code... it messes it all up :) [14:28]
CDoteven ordinary edit is banjaxed
CDot considers how to spin that into a feature
[14:41]
Babarrename it LockDownPlugin: with it, you're sure your wiki doesn't get tampered with. [14:43]
CDotdamn, looks like it's knackered if JS is switched off in the browser too, so SafeWikiPlugin isn't really at fault [14:45]
aha, it appears that the edithelp is incorrectly closed, so when SWP is on and rewrites the HTML, it fails [14:54]
gac410Hi CDot - working on SWP? [14:56]
CDotgac410: I am now :-) [14:56]
gac410I occasionally trip over topics that it totally hoses
I've got one on my test wiki - noting special - just one I have gradually added cruft to checking out unrelated examples. I'll see if I can post it to sandbox.
[14:56]
CDotCDot is looking at the edit screen ATM, trying to analyse why .... [14:58]
gac410hm I thought I had edit working with a rather "open" regex to allow the inline js. [14:59]
kip3fHi all, is there any way of doing switch / case statements? I'm thinking of something like this:
%SWITCH{"%QUERY{" ... "}%"
equals1="ExactValueCheck"
result1="result if ExactValueCheck"
query2="a query that can use $switch"
result2="result if query matched, can also use $switch"
default="nothing matched $switch"}%
I can't find anything like it in core or in plugins
[15:02]
CDotlooks like there is a problem with the handling of the <h1> on the edit screen. Probably a parser error.... [15:05]
gac410Nothing intentionally bad - probably a typo that happened a long time ago.
Even though malformed it renders okay without SWP
[15:08]
CDotCDot will look when he's analysed the first problem [15:09]
gac410yup thats fine. Figure you want to gather examples of topics that cause issues. even if self inflicted. [15:09]
CDotsoddit; it has <nop>s in it [15:19]
gac410hm. The editor help? That's exactly what's wrong with my topic as well.
At that late point in rendering, is there any reason not to just remove them?
[15:19]
CDotno; i just did, and it works :-) [15:20]
gac410As long as it doesn't remove them from edit text areas, [15:20]
CDotgrrr..... [15:21]
gac410Sorry... [15:21]
CDotCDot works out how to handle that :-) [15:25]
gac410I was going to suggest like I did with Base, or you do with comments - Regex them into a \0nop\0 and replace later [15:26]
CDotshit, gotta run; shops shut in 30 mins [15:26]
gac410bye [15:26]
CDotgac410: is there a Task for SWP changes? [15:27]
Babarshops are open on sundays? Lucky you :) [15:27]
CDotCDot wants to do a quick checkin
Babar: 10:00..16:00 only
[15:27]
gac410yes - cdot - [15:27]
Babarhere some are open like 9:30 to 12:30. But most are closed [15:27]

Assertion (Fields with defined values in Foswiki->finish(): evaluating_switch) failed!
any ideas?
my assert passes, this error happens after my test case method finishes
[18:15]
Babaryes
'cause your destructor, so the finish() method of your object, doesn't clean it properly
it's leaving stuff behind, and we have tests for that if yo uenable ASSERTS, iirc

mattzzI'm having trouble with an upgrade from 1.0.9 to 1.1.4. The problem it that RecentChanges sees all moved topics as of today. I copied webs via 'cp -a" trying to preserve all attributes. Can somebody please help?
"as of today" = created with today's date
[19:49]
gac410Ah - Make sure the rcs txt,v file is "newer" than the .txt file. Otherwise foswiki doesn't trust the revision info [19:51]
mattzzok, so a recursive find -exec touch should do the trick? [19:52]
gac410cp -a should have preserved the timestamps. So you should not have had to resort to that.
the .txt and .txt,v are a pair and in a normal system they have the same timestamp. (or at least very close, with ,v file >=
[19:52]
mattzzI'm just seeing that I made a mistake in that particular web I'm having the problems with… hold on a sec.
must have omitted the -a switch in the most important web…. dang.
[19:54]
gac410:-) [19:54]
mattzzyup. now it's back to normal. Thanks anyway - Sometimes it just helps to talk to somebody ;-) [19:56]
gac410sure. Note that if you have topics maintained by external programs, or you do maintenance via sed, it might be an ongoing problem [19:57]
mattzzI see. Thanks! [19:58]
gac410It can impact performance. If the topic is newer than the ,v file, Store now ignores the topic meta in the file, and builds the rev info from file attributes, and the rcs last version. It can be a big performance hit esp. in displaying search results.
Also, we are now recommending rcsLite in most cases, and especially with mod_perl, fastcgi, etc. It is faster than forking out to rcs commands. Except for topics with extremely large change history.
[19:59]
mattzzYeah, I will check my rcs settings. Still need to activate mod_perl on my server again after upgrading to the new foswiki version. [20:05]

SharathJagadeeshHI [20:50]
gac410hello SharathJagadeesh [20:51]
SharathJagadeeshCan anyone please guide me to create a LeftMenuBar and top MenuBar in FOSWiki
Hello Gac410..
Sorry not sure of your name though..
[20:52]
gac410You mean a custom version of the WebLeftBar?
And by top bar - you mean the navigation tabs like used on Foswiki.org
I'm developer GeorgeClark
[20:52]
SharathJagadeeshyeah I am trying to add a image in the custom version of the WebLeftBar
Hello George
Yeah you are right
top bar - the navigation tabs like used on Foswiki.org
Could you please guide me ..
?
[20:53]
gac410So WebLeftBar is pretty easy - I think all you need to do is copy WebLeftBarExample to WebLeftBar and modify it.
The navigation tabs like on Foswiki.org are built into the PatternSkin. hm. I changed it once, now to remeber how/where.
Are you on Foswiki 1.1.4 ?
[20:54]
SharathJagadeeshCould you please eloborate?
Yes..
[20:55]
gac410okay. I have to dig around a bit.
The top navigation menu is enabled by setting in your Main.SitePreferences
[20:56]
SharathJagadeeshMy Problem was I created a LeftMenu with a Pic..and created a MainMenu with the Tab function.. [20:57]
gac410Set PATTERNSKIN_NAVIGATION_TOPIC = System/PatternSkinThemeFatWillyNavigation [20:57]
SharathJagadeeshBut I was not able adjust the LeftMenuBar and MainMenuBar.. [20:58]
gac410To customize, copy System/PatternSkinThemeFatWillyNavigation to a topic of your choosing, and then edit from there. [20:58]
SharathJagadeeshI tried creating LeftMenuBar and MainMenuBar..
separately and tried calling the LeftMenuBar from MainMenuBar
But the position didn't work properly..
[20:59]
gac410For the left bar, the topic must be named WebLeftBar. I don't know what MainMenuBar is.
positioning, width, etc. are set in the css files - and at that point I start to get more than a little foggy. I don't do much with css.
[21:00]
SharathJagadeeshoh k 1 min i shall try to send the code i am trying to do..
u might understand better..
[21:02]
gac410please use pastebin
don't paste examples here thanks.
[21:03]
SharathJagadeeshSorry ..pastebin?? [21:06]

Good Evening,

Please advice..
[21:23]
kip3fwell you have a big image
<img alt="TestPic.jpg" height="514" src="%ATTACHURL%/TestPic.jpg" title="TestPic.jpg" width="198" />
the tabs show up underneath that
I haven't messed around with this area too much, myself.
[21:26]
SharathJagadeeshyeah wat I am trying to do is created a TestLeftMenuBar and TestMainBar separately and trying to include TestLeftMenuBar in the TestMainBar..
My Requirement in simple I need a LeftMenuBar with a Pic..and MainMenu to add different content..
[21:28]
kip3fSo you want TestMainBar to be on the top instead of on the left? [21:31]
SharathJagadeeshYes.. [21:33]
kip3fI believe that theere is a WebTOPBar for customizing that [21:34]
SharathJagadeeshKindly pls elaborate on WebTopBar [21:37]
kip3fAs I said, I haven't done much customization of this. But I think I remember seeing something about TopBar ... [21:38]
gac410Hi SharathJagadeesh - sorry - had to step away for a while. Ah you are trying to use the JQ Tabs. That's best done in a view template.
A more complex one is in our Extensions/Testing web for viewing test versions of extensions. See http://foswiki.org/Extensions/Testing/PackageViewTemplate?raw=all
It's used to display any topic with a PackageForm attached. Such as Foswiki:Extensions/Testing/CommentPlugin
[21:41]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Extensions/Testing/CommentPlugin [ CommentPlugin < Extensions/Testing < Foswiki ] [21:43]
mattzzHm, is that a bug or a feature? If META:TOPICPARENT comes before META:TOPICINFO, META:TOPICINFO is rendered as content.
If the order is vice versa, everything is ok.
[21:45]
gac410The TOPICINFO must be the first line and there can only be one. There were some earlier bugs that would pick up a topic info from anywhere in the topic. And a paste of a topicinfo into a topic, such as in a verbatim block in a bug report would really break things. [21:46]
mattzzok, so TOPICINFO must be the first line? [21:47]
gac410If the TOPICINFO is missing from the first line, store will build a new temporary one using information from RCS. Yes. Must be first
The only way to get them out of order would be externally edits, or (before 1.1.4) pasting it into the topic edit window.
[21:47]
mattzzHm. Then I'll have to edit a lot of topics that were automatically created by a script.
I'm running a mail2wiki script so that I can blog via email, including attaching pictures etc.
[21:48]
gac410When you edit them, the rcs,v file will then be out of date, and store will ignore the topicinfo and recreate it using history, file timestamp, and "UnknownUser".
If you want foswiki to trust the TOPICINFO you updated, then you need to at minimum touch the txt,v file, or preferably use an rcs ci.
[21:49]
SharathJagadeeshHello can u please guide on how to use the code in the link [21:51]
mattzzgac410: Thanks for the information [21:51]
gac410yw mattzz. SharathJagadeesh link.. the PackageViewTemplate? [21:52]
SharathJagadeeshSorry didn't get u? [21:55]
gac410you said "please guide how to use code in the link" .... which link [21:55]
SharathJagadeeshhttp://foswiki.org/Extensions/Testing/PackageViewTemplate?raw=all [21:57]
gac410Okay - that is a "view template". Foswiki can use that either manually by Set VIEWTEMPLATE = PackageView (note that the last template is omitted) [21:58]
***mattzz has left [21:58]
gac410or it can be used automatically, through the AutoViewTemplatePlugin which will associate a template with a form of the same name per some rules that I have not worked with.
View templates define the space inside the leftbar and top bar.
So WebLeftBar covers the left (or right) side. WebTopBar covers the top, and is site-wide. not per web. And a ViewTemplate controls the guts in the middle.
[21:59]
