WhoWhatWhen
AlexisHazellSorry if i've missed something obvious, but is there some way to create a new topic page without going via the edit screen? [02:44]
SvenDowideitAlexisHazell, yes
you can call save directly for eg
but as you need POST, you need to make a html form with fields set
see System.CommandAndCgiScripts or something
see foswiki:System.CommandAndCgiScripts or something
[02:55]
AlexisHazell*nod* [02:56]
SvenDowideitnope, i can never trigger the bot
SvenDowideit goes again :)
[02:56]
AlexisHazellSo i could just create a form that contains nothing but a "Create new topic" button? [02:56]
gac410Foswiki:System.CommandAndCgiScripts (capital f in Foswiki:) [02:57]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/System.CommandAndCgiScripts [02:57]
AlexisHazellThe reason i'm asking is for two separate situations.
The first one is that i'm trying to create a default template for Talk pages.
So what i've done is put an IF inside the default template topic that checks to see if the topic name matches '*Talk', and includes another topic if so; if not, it includes a different topic.
But i'd rather skip directly to the created page.
Rather than going via an edit screen.
The second case is with my Task Management System.
[02:58]
gac410Edit posts the data to the save script to save the topic. So you should be able to just post to save. Must be a POST though. [03:03]
AlexisHazell*nod* Which means i'd need to create a small form inside the standard toolbox to replace the default "Create New Topic" link, yes? [03:04]
gac410tbh ... not really sure. I'm not following your whole app. [03:05]
AlexisHazelli mean, it seems to me the better long-term solution would be to modify TalkContrib so that one can select a template to use for new Talk pages, and also be able to specify a default template for Talk pages different to the default template for the site or web. But right now i'm looking for a quick solution.
(This is a separate issue from the problem involving the TMS, which i'll come to shortly.)

PeterSvendsenHi all, I have a normal site at a external hosting compagny..... can I install a foswiki on that or can it only be installed if I have access to the server directly? [07:21]

Hi all, I have a normal site at a external hosting compagny..... can I install a foswiki on that or can it only be installed if I have access to the server directly? [08:09]
AlexisHazellPeterSvendsen: Do you have FTP access to your space on the server? If so, then yes. :-) [08:13]
PeterSvendsenyes I have..... [08:14]
AlexisHazell(i am running Foswiki on a virtual host i don't directly manage myself.) [08:14]
PeterSvendsenI have looked for this setup but can not find it.....
can you provide me with a link ow you have done it?
[08:14]
AlexisHazelli basically just followed the InstallationGuide: http://foswiki.org/System/InstallationGuide [08:15]
PeterSvendsenI looked at that but it seems that I need to have access.....
I started.. but as soon as I needed to serup the configure I ran into problems.....
[08:17]
AlexisHazellSorry, i'm not following. What access are you referring to that FTP doesn't provide? [08:18]
PeterSvendsenin the basic installation it states "If you do not have shell access to your web server host, see the section "Uploading the Foswiki distribution to your web server host". when I then look into that I need to modifu the configure manually
I upload the whole foswiki... but need to set it up.....
[08:19]
AlexisHazellSo what you do is use FTP to download any files you need to change, make the change to the file, and then upload the file back to the server.
And you can also use FTP to create copies of files for you to then edit.
[08:21]
PeterSvendsenyes.. but it states e.g. Copy the file lib/Foswiki.spec to lib/LocalSite.cfg.... and then update information in the following...$Foswiki::cfg{PubUrlPath} $Foswiki::cfg{PubDir} $Foswiki::cfg{DataDir}................but I dont know these data since I dont have access!! [08:22]
AlexisHazellWell, are you saying you can't run the configure script for some reason?
And also, when you log in to your server via FTP, don't you get told what directories you're in?
[08:23]
PeterSvendsencorrect.. I can not run the configure script...no idea why....
when I enter the FTP yes I can see where I am... at least in my domain :)
[08:24]
AlexisHazellIt might be that your hosting provider isn't allowing you to run CGI scripts.
Is your server running Linux?
[08:25]
PeterSvendsenThey doesnt support CGI scripts... :( [08:27]
AlexisHazell:-( Well that's that then! [08:27]
PeterSvendsenso then I'm not able to have foswiki installed? [08:28]
AlexisHazellAs far as i'm aware; Foswiki is a CGI application. [08:28]
PeterSvendsendamn :(
thanks
[08:29]

MichaelDaumAlexisHazell, there's a hot fix at http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11929
the other performance tip: switch from RcsWrap to RcsLite
brought down response times from 1.5s to 280ms
on a virt image with bad fork performance
[08:48]
AlexisHazellAh, neato, thanks! Have just changed to RcsLite, will apply that hotfix shortly. :-) [08:55]
Hm, just commented out that line in Rename.pm; no performance difference. [09:02]

BabarMichaelDaum: did you test a restore with your changes? [15:36]
MichaelDaumBabar, in how far is a restore involving Foswiki::UI::Rename? [15:39]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::UI::Rename [15:39]
Babarif it was involved in a delete, I would assume it's involved in a restore
but I'm just guessing
[15:40]
MichaelDaumrestore is Foswiki::UI::Manage last time I looked. Rename got factored out into a class of its own. [15:40]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::UI::Manage [15:40]
.... (idle for 18mn)
Babarok. I thought restore would call rename in reverse, but maybe I'm mistaken [15:58]
