hpram99it's been a couple years since I've done foswiki, just want to ask a quick question
is the supported/reccomended distro Cent?
or is another distro preferable?

jan894Hi
I have a question
may I supress in my Usersettings the last editor and timestamp when changing a topic?
I mean is it possible
[17:23]
anyone there? [17:37]
hi all [17:48]
.... (idle for 16mn)
hello
hi
[18:04]
................................... (idle for 2h54mn)
hpram99ok, I've installed on CentOS, but apache doesn't want to execute /bin/configure as a script. I was able to execute a test.pl scrpt. It doesn't like that there's no extension
is there a quick fix for this without rewriting all the file extensions?
[20:59]
Babarhum... read the installation guide? :) [20:59]
kip3fhpram99 - the SetHandler directive should be enough [21:00]
Babarlike: put a proper ScriptAlias directive [21:00]
gac410Hm... opinions from non-linux users wanted. I noticed my extension "backup" code was creating tar gzipped backups by default. Should the backup code be tweaked to try zip first on Windows, tar on everything else? [21:02]
kip3fgac410 - sounds good to me [21:02]
gac410that was my general thought too. No idea when Archive::Tar got installed on my system, but I ended up with backups that could not be easily restored :) [21:03]
hpram99babar: I can run scripts from that directory, it's specifically only scripts without an extension, they open as plain text instead
here's my conf: <Directory "/foswiki/bin"> AllowOverride None Options ExecCGI Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory>
yes, it sits in /foswiki/
[21:12]
Babarhpram99: are you sure you do not have any other directive which, for example, does a SetHandler for .pl scripts? [21:14]
kip3fdid you use the apache config generator? [21:14]
Babaryou could always rename/copy configure to configure.pl, but that shouldn't be necessary [21:15]
gac410hm... CentOS ... could it be something funky with SELinux and execute permissions [21:15]
hpram99no other sethandler
gac: I did have to set the context handler of the directory before apache would even load index.html
yes, something selinux
[21:17]
gac410SELinux - is it a system you could temporarily disable selinux? It will interfere with lots of stuff, so better to make an initial start without it and then when you enable it you'll know what it breaks.
sending email, installing extensions, ... are a few other things that need special selinux considerations.
[21:19]
For SELinux tips, see http://foswiki.org/Support/Faq69#SELinux_environments Also see https://fedorahosted.org/setroubleshoot/wiki/SETroubleShoot%20Overview [21:27]
FoswikiBot[ SETroubleShoot Overview – setroubleshoot ] [21:28]
hpram99disabled and rebooting
same thing
confirmed selinux is disabled
[21:29]
gac410How did you build your apache configuration? Tailored example shipped with foswiki? Used Foswiki:Support/ApacheConfigGenerator or some other source? [21:31]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Support/ApacheConfigGenerator [ ApacheConfigGenerator ] [21:31]
hpram99modified it as needed according to the install guide
I can use the generator if you would rather I do that
[21:31]
gac410The only time I've heard of renaming scripts is on some hosted sites where the host requires it. For your own server you really shouldn't need to do the renames.
ApacheConfigGenerator bulds a well tested configuration. Oh..., and if you used the .rpm package install, those are supposed to provide their own apache config.
[21:32]
hpram99yeah, I don't remember ever running in to this before, but googling it shows other people with similar experiences in Cent
I did not, the rpm is outdated I thought? I just downloaded the tar
[21:33]
gac410Foswiki does support renaming to .pl suffix if you want to go that way,. The rpm / .deb files are up to 1.1.6 with the security patch pre-applied. Though some have reported some rpm troubles, so I don't know. I don't use them myself. [21:34]
hpram99I'll try the generator first
hm, that didn't work so well
Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 11 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Invalid command 'ScriptAlias', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
that makes no sense, the same comand exists in the original httpd.conf
[21:35]
gac410hm. mod_alias is necessary but that's a really common module. Note that ApacheConfigGenerator does not build a 100% apache config,. It's intended to be included from the httpd.conf [21:39]
kip3fyou could double check that you have mod_alias
what gac410 said
you should be including it
[21:39]
hpram99ah, didn't realize that [21:40]
gac410Usually you either put the generated file in a hosts or vhosts or some sort directory, or add a Include statement. It really depends on the os install. Everyone has to be different :) [21:40]
kip3fthe web page is quite unclear
"Copy and paste the generated configuration into your Apache configuration file"
[21:40]
gac410:)
ItsAWiki :)
[21:41]
kip3fkip3f fixing [21:41]
hpram99heh [21:41]
kip3fthere's no point to saying RTFM .. if the M is F'ed [21:42]
gac410well the acronym still works ... but with a slight spelling difference. :D [21:43]
hpram99ok, now I can't execute any scripts at all
woo
I can get the index.html
wait, nope, that was cached
[21:45]
gac410Usually index.html is denied.
What happens when you request a script? error, or perl code, or ???
[21:46]
hpram99I sepcificaly set allow x to index.html for testing purposes [21:46]
gac410ah [21:46]
hpram99nothing was loading, no pages, I mispoke when I said index.html would load
404 on all
I'm reloading apache and starting fresh, I tinkered a bit too much
[21:47]
kip3fACG updated [21:50]
gac410It appears that centos might configure apache to auto load configs from /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/ directory [21:50]
hpram99I do not believe virtual hosts are enabled by default [21:51]
gac410Some CentOS specific stuff here http://www.xenocafe.com/tutorials/linux/centos/apache_web_server/ that I've been reading through.
I can't really help much, I use gentoo primarily :)
[21:51]
hpram99ok same error after reloading and ensuring a fresh httpd.conf was loaded
Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 126 of /etc/httpd/conf/foswiki.conf: Invalid command 'php_admin_flag', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
it's in the middle of a Directory statement
[21:52]
Babarthat's for PHP
if you do not have PHP enabled, just remove that line
it's harmless
[21:53]
gac410Yeah ... there was a checkbox in ACG that asked if you wanted php controls. But as Babar said, just delete the line. [21:53]
hpram99I commented it out, apache loaded, but no web-pages load, apache "not found" error
bleh, I get the test page when I don't specify a full url
[21:53]
gac410When you generated your apache config did you put in a hostname and end up with a <vhost... > statement or did you omit it. (either can probably be okay ... just wondering. [21:56]
hpram99was just about to say I don't have a hostname yet
so it's going to default to the apache page
[21:56]
gac410okay. just making sure. That would have been my next question. So as long as there is no vhost then the x.x.x.x/foswiki/bin/configure or whatever you used for a url path should be okay. [21:57]
hpram99so, how do I get rewrite working? [22:00]
gac410rewrite? [22:00]
hpram99er, modrewrite? [22:00]
gac410For shorter URLs? [22:00]
hpram99can't remember what it's called, but yes [22:00]
gac410You don't need rewrite unless you are trying to auto-shorten the urls. I'd try to get it just working plain old vanilla first. [22:01]
hpram99and I'm up and running [22:15]
gac410excellent! [22:15]
