WhoWhatWhen
gac410SvenDowideit: I'm very seriously thinking about simplifying LogDispatch. To only support a single level token array to define the plain file record.
It's just going to become too complext to support longer term.
It's never been released other that to Extensions/Testing. Are use actively using it?
If i do that though, the file format will not be compatible with the Compat / Plain loggers.
Or... I eliminate the log format feature complete, and just keep it compatible with existing formats.

i have a question
is easy to install kinosearch addon ? is actually mantained?
[09:37]

flexibeastjast: But what would be doing if we didn't have to deal with the constantly shifting sands of Web platforms? i mean, we might end up spending more time creating better software! :-O ;-) [10:01]
Babarlechucks: yeah, Micha has moved on to Solr [10:01]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum never was on kino except installing it for one client, fixing some bugs along the line [10:01]
Babarright, moving on means you were there, sorry.
Oliver did Kino, iirc.
Babar worked on Plucene a while back, and wouldn't advise it for anyone
[10:02]
jastflexibeast: yeah, wouldn't that be horrible [10:04]
MichaelDaumplucene ... that was 2000 [10:05]
jastso, anyone gonna write a xapian plugin? :} [10:05]
MichaelDaumis http://foswiki.org/Development/HowToUseGit still the starting point for foswiki devs to get started
with git
[10:05]
BabarMichaelDaum: depends... for you, yes. For new devs, I think Julian did some docco on vagrant+git+chef+... [10:06]
MichaelDaumso the svn pointers are still required? [10:07]
Babarunfortunately, yes. I never had the time to finish it. I should stop finding excuses and bite the bullet
but with the job changing, move, etc... I'm fairly busy :(
[10:07]
MichaelDaumnot too busy to join our chat room :) [10:08]
BabarI do that at work. It's easy to do it on and off
but if I start the migration, I cannot leave it half done, or people would kill me :)
[10:08]
MichaelDaumI am now testing HowToUseGit [10:09]
Babarlet me know if anything isn't clear/straight-forward [10:09]
MichaelDaumit required me to install git-svn ...wasnt there trying to add the svn pointers [10:10]

Babarstupid question, but what kind of transport do we want for our own repo? http? https? git? [10:20]
MichaelDaumthe most efficient one
I guess the HowToUseGit will morph dramatically once git is master and svn slave ... btw is that possible atm?
as from what I see now, switching to git with those svn pointers in the middle is really a lot more complicated following the HowToUseGit
and all the recommended ways to push upstream will change anyway.
like svn dcommit
[10:26]
lechucksthanks Babar [10:30]
Babaryeah, we will just push back
and we have to define workflows
[10:31]
MichaelDaumsetting up the git repo plus connecting and fetchign svn has still not finished [10:34]
Babaryeah, the first pass takes a long time
highly bandwidth dependant
[10:36]
MichaelDaumthis should be more of a "git clone, branch mystuff, rocknroll" experience [10:37]
Babarthat's how it will be after the migration :) [10:37]
MichaelDaumdo you think it still is worth switching to git now, even with all the svn yadda? [10:38]
Babaryeah, git would free our workflow
branching would be so much simpler
[10:39]
MichaelDaumhow about private changes in a local mystuff branch
how do I make sure it doesnt get pushed to master...even though I switched back to master?
MichaelDaum hopes he was clear for a git ninja
Babar, what does that warning message mean: You are in 'detached HEAD' state.
after git checkout trunk
[10:40]
Babarthat you are not on a local branch [10:45]
jastit means you checked out the commit instead of a branch, i.e. commits made on top don't go into any branch [10:45]
Babartrunk is a remote branch
you're supposed to work on master, or on your own branch
[10:45]
jastwhat git version are you using? [10:45]
MichaelDaumdoesnt that have to be git branch remote/git?
argh remote/trunk
jast, 1.7.9.5
[10:45]
jasthmm, that should be recent enough for it to magically do the right thing
but I suppose with git-svn involved, things are different
[10:46]
MichaelDaumgit branch remote/trunk doesnt make that noise [10:46]
jastgit-svn is a huge pain
'git branch' doesn't checkout anything
it just creates that branch, pointing to the currently checked out commit by default
[10:46]
***ChanServ sets mode: +o Babar [10:50]
BabarMichaelDaum: sorry, got disconnected
did jast answer your question?
[10:51]
MichaelDaumno [10:54]
Babarso, I didn't understand it
and I'm about to leave... but shoot :)
[10:54]
MichaelDaumhow is master and remote/trunk related to each other? [10:55]
Babarmaster is following it
so pulling from master will merge trunk
[10:55]
MichaelDaumokay as I could have expected [10:56]
jast'git branch remote/trunk' probably created a second branch that's very similar in name... git branch -a to list everything [10:56]
MichaelDaumah I need to delete it again [10:56]
jastgit branch -d :)
a surefire way to checkout a remote branch as a new local branch: git checkout -b newname remote/trunk (for example)
[10:58]
MichaelDaumremotes/trunk that is [10:59]
jastright
first customer is using the new SafeWikiPlugin in production, btw... but it's currently a bit *too* safe. some of the inline JS code generated by JQueryPlugin's buttons, for instance, gets filtered.

bug: WysiwygPlugin converts numerical apostrophe (') entities into the ' form – this is not actually defined in HTML and IE7/8 don't support it. [16:27]
