CDotfoswiki_irc1: things are usually pretty quiet on a saturday morning
no, I have not used tinyweb. I do use lightppd, though, if that's any help
what is the entire error message?
[09:39]
foswiki_irc1hi
give me a sec.. I will paste the error here
[09:43]
Internal Server Error: "-T" is on the #! line, it must also be used on the command line at D:\www\htdocs\cgi-bin\view.pl line 1.
so this is the error I get when I run the server
[09:55]
CDotsure. I had a look at the tinyweb documentation - such as it is - and it's no bloody help at all [09:56]
foswiki_irc1right.. there was no help
but when I run the view.pl file from command line.... i dont get this error...
[09:58]
CDothmmm. Well, the message you are seeing is what you would get if you ran the view.pl script from the command line without the -T switch [09:59]
foswiki_irc1I am using tinyweb rather than apache as it has a very small footprint
correct
[09:59]
CDotlightppd is also very small. not as small as tinyweb, though
anyway, you either need to get tinyweb to run perl *with* the -T switch, *or* you need to disable it in the view.pl script
[09:59]
foswiki_irc1basically I am using the tinyweb and corresponding server script as mentioned in the TWIKI website [10:00]
CDotI don't know how to do the former (no tinyweb doc) but the latter is done as follows:
1) edit the view.pl script
[10:00]
foswiki_irc1here is the link >> http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/TWikiForWindowsPersonal [10:00]
CDot2) remove the -T from the first line
3) save
4) repeat as necessary for the other CGI scripts - edit.pl, etc
[10:00]
foswiki_irc1but I thought taint mode is necessary for security
therefore, I was reluctant to do so
[10:01]
CDotnot necessary once development is complete. We keep it on because it forces checking in user-provided plugins [10:02]
foswiki_irc1another Q to u,, which one you prefer, activestate perl or strawberry...
I think activestate perl has a smaller footprint
[10:02]
CDotI use strawberry (when I use win32 which is not very often)
strawberry is much easier to install CPAN modules for, and is more up to date
[10:02]
foswiki_irc1i think u r right...because, i tried to run the view.pl with activestate using cmd.. I got an version error.. such as your version is .74 but .77 is required..
but strawberry takes 300MB
[10:04]
CDotdisc is cheap :-) [10:07]
foswiki_irc1:)
so any thought about tinyweb to run perl with -T?
[10:07]
CDotCDot had a quick look through the tinyweb sources, but doesn't see where perl is invoked. [10:08]
foswiki_irc1mate, I can send you the commands used for tinyweb to run perl [10:09]
CDotpaste it here [10:10]
foswiki_irc1ok [10:11]
CDotCDot wonders if tinyweb runs under wine [10:11]
foswiki_irc1this is in the run.bat file which actually creates another bat script but i think these are the main line... (or u can download the file from the twiki link i have given)
.\perl\perl\bin\perl -w -I.\perl\perl\lib run.bat %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
my $cwd = Cwd::cwd(); open( BATCH, ">$cwd/tools/start.bat" ) or die "Can't create $cwd/tools/start.bat"; $cwd =~ s/\//\\/; print BATCH "\@REM Auto-generated by run.bat, do not modify\n"; print BATCH "cd $cwd\\logs\n"; print BATCH "start $cwd\\tinyweb\\tinyweb.exe $cwd\\htdocs 8765 127.0.0.1 .pl $cwd\\perl\\perl\\bin\\perl.exe -T\n"; print BATCH "start $cwd\\tools\\start.url\n"; close( BATCH ); exec( "$cwd\\tools\\start.bat" );
this is what in the second bat file -
@REM Auto-generated by run.bat, do not modify cd D:\www\logs start D:\www\tinyweb\tinyweb.exe D:\www\htdocs 8765 127.0.0.1 .pl D:\www\perl\perl\bin\perl.exe -T start D:\www\tools\start.url
-------------------
[10:12]
CDothmmm- that *is* running perl with -T [10:13]
foswiki_irc1i the above scripts I have added the -T switches but no improvement
nope, in original -T was not

print BATCH "start $cwd\\tinyweb\\tinyweb.exe $cwd\\htdocs 8765 127.0.0.1 .pl $cwd\\perl\\bin\\perl.exe\n";
this is the line that is *really* executing the perl interpreter
[10:31]
foswiki_irc1thats y we now have foswiki :P [10:32]
CDotadd " -T" before the final \n [10:32]
foswiki_irc1spot on. this is the line printed in the second file i sent u
this is what I actually did .. in the socond file
start D:\www\tinyweb\tinyweb.exe D:\www\htdocs 8765 127.0.0.1 .pl D:\www\perl\perl\bin\perl.exe -T
[10:33]
CDotyou may have to put some quotes around "D:\www\perl\perl\bin\perl.exe -T"
IIRC COMMAND.COM is really fussy about quotes
[10:34]
foswiki_irc1ok, let me try now
it gives below error >> Internal Server Error: The system cannot find the file specified
[10:34]
CDotgrr [10:36]
foswiki_irc1because under the "" hood , it failed to get the interpretor [10:36]

foswiki_irc1start D:\www\tinyweb\tinyweb.exe D:\www\htdocs 8765 127.0.0.1 .pl "D:\www\perl\perl\bin\perl.exe -T" [10:36]
CDothttp://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/tinyweb/faq.php has some instructions on setting up .pl -> perl
using PATHEXT
[10:37]
foswiki_irc1whats it?
pathext
[10:37]
CDotsomething NT-ish
I don't think it's relevant, though
ok, so, one approach would be to add another script - call it "runperl.bat" that just has the perl -T command in it, and then invoke *that* script from the 'start' command
I can't find any documentation on these extra parameters to the tinyweb.exe command :-(
[10:38]
foswiki_irc1very poor documentation, [10:41]
CDotagreed. I have to go now, but will take another look when I get back at around 5pm (it's 11 now) - if you haven't solved it by then!
if you *do* solve it, please write a "howto" in the Support web on foswiki.oeg
good luck!
[10:41]
foswiki_irc1ok
by the way, does anyone here has some experience with tinyweb?

AlfahedPMhi, i am getting error "Wide character in subroutine entry" when tyring to view wiki text for DefaultPreferences
this is the error in the log: Encode::decode('windows-1252', '---+!! <nop>%WIKITOOLNAME% Site-Level Preferences
[13:44]
gac410What release of Foswiki? [13:47]
AlfahedPM1.1.8 [13:47]
gac410Windows platform? [13:48]
AlfahedPMno linux [13:48]
gac410Do you have Internationalization enabled or Locales?
I know it should not crash like this, but it's better to edit the Main.SitePreferences. You really should never edit System.DefaultPreferences. Use the raw view to copy/paste what you want to change from there to the SitePreferences.
[13:48]
AlfahedPMi think it is internationalization. {UseLocale} is not checked. [13:50]
gac410what editor are you using? Wysiwyg, or the plain wikitext editor? [13:50]
AlfahedPMWysiwyg
Foswiki::Plugins::WysiwygPlugin::_execute('_restHTML2TML', 'Foswiki=HASH(0x9348720)', 'WysiwygPlugin', 'html2tml', 'Foswiki::Response=HASH(0x9348b94)') called at /var/www/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Plugins/WysiwygPlugin.pm line 70

FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Plugins::WysiwygPlugin http://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Response [13:51]
gac410Does the plain text editor work for you as a workaround? [13:52]
AlfahedPMHow to check that? disable Wysiwyg plugin? [13:52]
gac410No, on the bottom of the page should be an edit wikitext or edit plain text link.
"Edit Wiki Text"
[13:53]
AlfahedPMyes, that works [13:53]
gac410Could you look in your LocalSite.cfg .... What is $Foswiki::cfg{Site}{Locale} and $Foswiki::cfg{UserInterfaceInternationalisation} set to? [13:56]
AlfahedPM$Foswiki::cfg{Site}{Locale} = 'en_US.ISO-8859-1';
$Foswiki::cfg{UserInterfaceInternationalisation} = 0;
[13:57]
gac410Hm. I wonder what is different, It doesn't crash here., Ah... does it crash on edit, or on save?
One more question. Is this an "upgrade" - did DefaultPreferences come from an older version of Foswiki?
[13:57]
AlfahedPMedit and saving is working
no it is new installation
between after saving, now i can take wiki text without error..
log shows: save: Wide character in print at /var/www/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Store/VC/Handler.pm line 994.
rest: Parsing of undecoded UTF-8 will give garbage when decoding entities at /var/www/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Plugins/WysiwygPlugin/HTML2TML.pm line 183.
do you want full log?
[13:59]
gac410That would be great. Please post to http://pastebin.com/ or open a task on Foswiki.org/Tasks [14:02]
AlfahedPMone minute [14:02]
gac410Which version of perl [14:03]
AlfahedPMPerl/v5.14.2 [14:05]
gac410okay thanks. Once I get the pastebin I'll open a task. It doesn't crash here, Is your system in the US or Canada? [14:09]
AlfahedPMNo, I am from India. I am testing it on an internal system [14:10]
gac410okay. Do you know what the System locale is? Sometimes utf8 issues can be system / environment related. They are difficult to recreate and fix.
I think entering "locale" and "locale -a" on command prompt will tell you.
ping jast - you around? Any ideas?
[14:11]
AlfahedPMam here. i was posting the bug
let me check the locale
C C.UTF-8 POSIX
[14:13]
gac410okay, thanks. my "ping jast" was for another developer, who does some of the i18n work. I'm in the US and generally cannot recreate these types of issues. [14:14]
AlfahedPMbug posted: http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item12444 [14:15]
gac410Was this your first edit of DefaultPreferences? Also, are the AccessControlExceptions related? [14:22]
Lynnwoodgood morning all. [14:24]
gac410The message starting with "Wide Character Print" isn't timestamped, so it's hard to tell the sequence. I think the Wide Character in Print message is actually in a different transaction than the access exception at 14:04:22
morning Lynnwood
[14:24]
Lynnwoodgac410 - remember the problem I was looking at a couple of days ago which I thought had to do with TopicTitle values? [14:25]
gac410yes [14:25]
Lynnwoodi figured it out [14:25]
gac410(sort of) [14:25]
Lynnwoodnothing to do with TopicTitles
and is an interesting bug (sort of)
it has to do with select+values fields in DataForms
[14:25]
***kip3f has left [14:25]
Lynnwoodafaict, there is no way to return the stored value in these fields rather than the displayed value [14:26]
AlfahedPMya, that was my first edit. after that it just worked [14:26]
Lynnwoodfor example, if one uses FORMFIELD or $formfield() in a query that reference one of these fields, it will always return the displayed value
and there is no way (that I've found) to actually get the stored value.
[14:27]
gac410AlfahedPM: Great thanks. That says that the "shipped" System.DefaultPreferences file is what triggered the issue. [14:28]
LynnwoodI just did a example in my sandbox topic Sandbox/LynnwoodBrownSandbox [14:28]
gac410I'm definitely not the right go-to guy when it comes to formfields :) [14:29]
Lynnwoodopps. not quite true
i'm just mentioning it out of interest.
i'm thinking i'll file bug report
although i just proved myself wrong (in part)
FORMFIELD does return the value rather than displayed value
Although i do think it would be nice to have an option in FormattedSearch syntax to reference formfield value
Likewise, i guess it would be nice to allow FORMFIELD to specify displayed or stored value
[14:29]
foswiki_irc0hello @all
I have two issues, maybe you can solve them very easy :)
at first: NatSkin: I would like to create my own Variation of jazzynote
my issue: how can I do it? I have created a copy of RedVaraition to TestVariation, modify some details, but if I take test as variation, it looks like off :(
[14:39]
gac410ping MichaelDaum NatSkin is your baby :) Any time for a question? [14:42]
foswiki_irc0it would be very nice :)
there is another issue: WikiUsers, this topic isn't there
but I have another (old) foswiki-instance with users
[14:54]
gac410No WikiUsers topic? Did someone delete it? [14:55]
foswiki_irc0so, should I copy the topic from old to new?
ne, after install, it isn't there
I install 1.1.8 and NatSkin
[14:55]
gac410Main.WikiUsers was not installed? Did you accidentally use the Upgrade zipfile instead of the full install? [14:56]
foswiki_irc0WikiUsers is listed, but only at Main.WebHome. the topic itself is not there
yes, I used only the zip file and I was so happy, that foswiki was running after bin/configure :)
so, I guess, I did a mistake?
[14:56]
gac410No. It's not there. Hm... It might get created when you register your first user. [14:57]
foswiki_irc0it was this file: Foswiki-1.1.8.zip
So, if I register me, it will be created and then I can copy the old WikiUsers to the new install?
[14:57]
gac410That's correct. I just checked and we don't ship it in 1.1.7 or 1.1.8. or even 1.1.0, So it must be created automatically [14:58]
foswiki_irc0perfect :) [14:58]
gac410If you are copying all the users over, then just copy WikiUsers.txt too. [14:58]
foswiki_irc0ok, I will try it and tell was happen. please gice me a moment [14:58]
gac410WikiUsers.txt, EachUser.txt, and .htpasswd (And don't forget the ,v rcs files too) [14:59]
MichaelDaumfoswiki_irc0, have a look into your LocalSite.cfg. that's where the variations are registered.
$Foswiki::cfg{NatSkin}{Themes}{JazzyNote} = {baseUrl => "...", styles => {...}, variations => { red=> "RedVariation.css", ..., "test" => "TestVariation.css"} };
[15:03]
foswiki_irc0Yes, I expended this part about configure->Extension->Natskin
there is a textarea
oh, but maybe I forgot the "," after the red-line :(
oh no...it was my own mistake... the comma was missing
now, I have may own style :)
THANKS so much!!!
but the the issue with wikiUsers is still there :(
[15:06]
MichaelDaumthe WikiUsers topic is created automatically when the first one registers. odd, I know. [15:12]
foswiki_irc0Yes, I have just created a test account
then I copied from an old instance the profiles to the new instance
and of course the wikiusers file as well, in this order
but now, I see onlye two person :(
[15:12]
gac410If you copied the file data/Main/WikiUsers.txt then it should be complete. What do you mean you only see two users>? [15:14]
foswiki_irc0in my old instance there are round about 100 person. After foswiki created the WikiUsers.txt and I have copy the old file to the new foswiki users fowiki displays only two of the 100
and the topic tile is %TOPICTITLE%
and the function bar (edit, attach, new, more) is missing :(
only at this topic
[15:15]
gac410What version is running on the old system. [15:17]
foswiki_irc01.0.9 [15:18]
gac410With missing markup like that, it sounds like the old topic is corrupted, maybe a <div> or some other html markup in the page. [15:18]
Lynnwoodnew bug report regarding rendering of +value fields: http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item12445 [15:19]
gac410If you copied over all the user topics, and they are the new style wiht a UserForm attached, there is a topic in the System web that will re-create WikiUsers.txt from a search of the users. [15:19]
foswiki_irc0okay, I understand. there is another "Form" name :(
so, how can I fix it?
not UserForm, but ProfileForm
[15:20]
gac410See System/FAQRebuildingWikiUsersTopic You probably could adjust the search to use your modified form.
Search has a line: "name=~'^%letter%.*' AND (form.name~'*UserForm')" Just use your ProfileForm or whatever you used in your user topics.
[15:21]
foswiki_irc0ok, then I will edit the named topic in my new foswiki [15:22]
gac410You may need to change it in multiple places. And good to copy it to a local name, so when you upgrade Foswiki, you won't lose your customization [15:23]
foswiki_irc0the same problem is still there. I deleted the WikiUsers-files on file system and copied all of the FAQRebuildingWikiUsersTopic and created a own WikiUsers file
but it doesn't work
the same two person are displayed
[15:28]
gac410If you look at the WikiUsers file with ?raw=on do you see more users? If so, what's going on where the list stops? [15:30]
foswiki_irc0yes, I see many users [15:30]
gac410So where it stops in the display, there is something there corrupting the topic.
Is it a topic name with strange characters?
[15:31]
foswiki_irc0on normal view, I see instaet a picture (e.g. nobody.gif) only a text: "%IMAGE{ "/pub/System/JQueryPlugin/images/nobody.gif" href="/bin"
mm...good question. my old foswiki had another charset than my new one
[15:31]
gac410I'm really confused. WikiUsers.txt should ONLY be a simple bullted lists of user toic names. [15:32]
foswiki_irc0maybe this is a problem. but I take all data from FAQRebuildingWikiUsersTopic and created it on my own
ok, I turned on the IMAGE-Plugin :) now I see two nobody-pictures :)
[15:33]
gac410It should be a very simple alphabetical list - for example http://foswiki.org/Main/WikiUsers?raw=on [15:33]
foswiki_irc0okay, I think we are very close to the solution :) I just checked both person. these are two mistake-registrations. They have UserForm. But the ProfileForm person aren't shown [15:35]
gac410Even if you've got a special view template that's altering the display of WikiUsers, the raw underlying topic MUST be that simple bullet list without embedded blank lines. Otherwise the mapper will break [15:35]
foswiki_irc0in my WikiUSers is written: * A - <a name='A'>- - - -</a> * PersonOne - - 2006-12-12 - 14:47 * PersonTwo - - 2008-12-15 - 00:19 [15:36]
gac410Yes, each one on a separate line I hope. [15:37]
foswiki_irc0yes :)
but the two mistake registration, which are display without ?raw=on/all aren't in the list.
so, to summerized: I ahve 102 person. 100 are reigstered with ProfileForm and two are with UserForm. the both UserForm are show at /main/wikiusers, but at /main/wikiUsers?raw=all I see all person with ProfileForm
maybe a chace problem?
[15:37]
gac410You must have some plugin that is modifying the display of WikiUsers I have no idea. The normal view of WikiUsers is not modified by plugins / skins [15:39]
foswiki_irc0ah, okay...
then I will disable all plugin and search for the mistake
[15:40]
gac410The * PersonOne ... becomes a simple bullet in the regular view. No picutures, no icons. Just a bullet list. [15:40]
foswiki_irc0yes, like at my old foswiki instance [15:40]
gac410It might also be view templates. I have no ideal. [15:40]
foswiki_irc0hmm, I take a look at the bottom of the file: %META:PREFERENCE{name="NATSKIN_VARIATION" title="NATSKIN_VARIATION" type="Local" value="test"}%
in my new foswiki instance
in my old, there is nothing
[15:43]
gac410Maybe it's a NatSkin thing. I have no idea. I've never used it. [15:43]
foswiki_irc0ok, I will go on, otherwise I will come back or create an own WikiUsers-Topic :)
so, thank for your attention
[15:44]
gac410If it "looks right" in the raw=on view, then it's probably skin / template related. For Mapping to work correctly, it's a bullet list, simple. Anything else is eye candy :) [15:45]
foswiki_irc0:)
yes, I am suprise, too that suddently the list changed to antoehr style
[15:46]
gac410NatSkin is a rather complex "eco-system" of a number of inter-related plugins and contribs. It has a pretty wide impact. Michael is the author. [15:50]
MichaelDaumare you refering to the different look of http://demo.michaeldaumconsulting.com/Home/WikiUsers ?
yes that's a custom view template.
not using any plugin just a more comfortable presentation of the data model underneath ... which is a bullet list
[15:52]
gac410Cool. Something was causing his display to just stop after the 2nd user. He rebuild wikiusers, and it still truncated. But the internal list was fine.
So something in one of the user topics was probably corrupting the display.
I had never seen that so it was hard to help.
[15:53]
foswiki_irc0so, is there a tempalte view, where I can do some modification?
for e.g. my wiki users use ProfileForm instead of UserForm
but currently, only UserForm-users are displayes
[15:59]
