MichaelDaumany of the maintainers of foswiki.org listening?
I fail uploading new packages for MimeIconPlugin
it dies with an internal server error
this is a 7MB upload, which should be okay according to the current attach limits
yet still it fails
after the upload finished 100%, the upload script times out
and gets me a 500
gmc, do you admin the server?
or anybody else?
pharvey, Babar or anybody else listed on http://foswiki.org/Community.InfrastructureTaskTeam
could you please have a look?
[07:59]
Babarok, let me see [08:17]
MichaelDaumthanks in advance [08:26]
Babar, let me know when to try next time [08:33]
Babarso for the moment, all I can see is that it timed out
mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 180 seconds
[08:34]
jastso... something is being VERY slow [08:38]
***ChanServ sets mode: +o pharvey [08:38]
Babarjast: 3 minutes to upload 7 MB... maybe MichaelDaum's connection is as bad as mine at home? :)
MichaelDaum: can you try to upload again, and let me know when it is finished uploading for you (as far as you can tell)
[08:39]
jastdoesn't "read data timeout" refer to a timeout reading from the fcgi worker? [08:39]
Babarah. maybe :)
that would make more sense
[08:40]
MichaelDaumBabar, okay. I'll try using a real browser upload (not BuildContrib) [08:40]
..... (idle for 23mn)
MichaelDaum clicked on "upload file"
upload finished ... waiting for server
still running ... not finished
error 500, Babar
[09:03]
Babarok, so it was processing the upload
let me bump the timeout
ok, bumped to 300. Please try again, BuildContrib is fine
[09:17]
MichaelDaumupload of zip starts ... now [09:20]
jastedge of my seat [09:21]
MichaelDaumdon't hold your breath [09:21]
jastyeah, my breath only lasts for 3 MB
do I remember correctly that you wanted to write a solr indexing daemon of sorts?
[09:22]
MichaelDaumyes [09:23]
jasthave you done any work on that yet? [09:23]
MichaelDaumthere's a crawler class. but work is stalled for now. [09:24]
jastI'm writing a bit of a framework right now, for doing all kinds of wiki-relevant things in a daemon
I might be able to convince folks to make the relevant parts open source
it's a bit more generic than strictly required for solr indexing, but then again it might be useful for other stuff in the future
just fyi :)
[09:24]
MichaelDaumopen source rulez [09:26]
jastright now the focus is on internal infrastructure, and we'll probably keep some of that to ourselves, I dunno... but I kind of think much of the code can be reused for our plans for Q.Wiki [09:27]
MichaelDaumBabar, it BuildContrib failed uploading
with a 500
I'll try via browser now
[09:29]
nope. no go. [09:47]
Babaryeah, still...
MichaelDaum: I bumped it to the roof, let's see if it's really taking forever to process
[10:00]
...... (idle for 25mn)
MichaelDaumstill got a 500 after waiting for a looong time
I've got no problems uploading to https://demo.michaeldaumconsulting.com/Sandbox/TestUpload rather quickly. this however is using TopicInteractionPlugin which chunks uploads and assembles in the end.
the final phase where things go into the store pass quickly though, even for large files
[10:25]
Babar, what do the logs say? [10:39]

rfDoes someone know what $CPANBASE = 1; is doing in LocalLib.cfg? [10:58]
Babarrf: yes
= 1 is pretty stupid...
https://github.com/foswiki/foswiki/blob/master/core/bin/setlib.cfg#L38 should be clear enough.
basically, it pre-pends CPAN librairies
[10:59]
rfAh ok. thanks [11:01]
Babarbut = 1 means it will prepend 1/arch, 1/lib, etc... which sounds pretty silly to me
= 0 makes more sense
[11:01]
rfYeah kinda. But well I am currently fighing a little with configuration.
I'm getting Class/Load.pm not found software errors and I don't know why.
[11:02]
..... (idle for 20mn)
jastyou're probably missing Class::Load... [11:23]
rfI hope not. My other installation at /var/lib/foswiki does not complain.
I try to set up another installation at /var/www/foswiki out of svn now
And I guess some configuration is wrong. :/

donbarryComment about GPL: one of the four freedoms discussed by Richard Stallman is simply to have the *knowledge* that you have the right to get the source. And frankly, building an entire business around Foswiki and nowhere on the web pages actually mentioning the codebase on which it is built is devious along the lines of not letting people know that they're contracting to receive GPL software.
It appears Modell Aachen installs the software on the customer's server, so there is in fact a "distribution" which *requires* that they be informed of their GPL rights, and given upon request the source. They of course can be charged for the original distribution, but additional provision of the source can only be done for a "reasonable" copying fee, i.e. cost of media and labor -- and cannot be a steep charge.
Foswiki is unfortunately not an AGPL application (or even an AGPL core) that could trigger source distribution requirements even if running on a remote server. That is the decision of the Foswiki authors.

MichaelDaumdonbarry, I am unsure why Modell Aachen is so quiet about its roots.
they recently had a website redesign and their previous site did mention foswiki as an open source base.
as can be seen in the google-cached versions
of the old pages
