FeigrimHello I am looking for a plugin for Foswiki that lets me have a table that automatically updates when you make changes elsewhere, I am not sure what to search for. Is there such a plugin? [06:05]

FeigrimHow do I attach a form I've made to a topic? I cannot find any button or option for that on the Edit screen
the tutorial says to click on the "Add form" button but I cannot find such a button

SvenDowideitFeigrim i /think its hidden in the more topic actions
it used to be on the edit screen, but things change
[09:20]
MichaelDaumFeigrim, please add your newly created form to WEBFORMS in WebPreferences. otherwise no "Add form" button will show up on the edit screen nor anywhere else.
btw WEBFORMS is a comma separated list
happy b'day Sven :)
[09:22]
SvenDowideitMichaelDaum ooo, ta :) [09:24]
MichaelDaumhope you are fine in southern hemi winter. [09:25]
...... (idle for 27mn)
FeigrimMichaelDaum: yes I sorted it out :) There were already two old forms added to WEBFORMS, but I added a third one that I just made and then the Add Forms button showed up with all three forms
dunno why it got lost in the first place
[09:52]
................ (idle for 1h15mn)
When I've done tables I have a set of rules for it, like cellpaddin and cellspacing and colors etc, can I declare those in %EDITTABLE as well? They don't seem to work
I tried with %EDITTABLE{ headerbg="#C1C1C1" }%
[11:07]
ok so it seems like I don't even need to use EDITTABLE when creating a form, I just need to type in the form, but how then do I theme forms so they look different? [11:18]

.................... (idle for 1h38mn)
CalebSGI would like the ability to add an "owner" to specific topics and then search for them and list them by owner, by last updated date
if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. New to Foswiki and wikis but have a fair amount of programming background
[17:15]
Lynnwoodhey there CalebSG
There are a couple or several ways you could go about that, depending on what you mean by "owner"
If you simply mean the last person who edited the topic, then it's very simple.
If you mean that _only_ that person could edit the topic, the there would be a slightly different approach.
If you would simply like to associate a value for "Owner" that does not relate to the last person who edited the topic, or who has permission to edit the topic, then that would be point to a third approach.
[17:24]
CalebSGfor us it means more that the "owner" is responsible for the content [17:28]
Lynnwoodok, at first glance, that sounds most like the third situation. [17:28]
CalebSGThen i'd like to be able to search for all the topics by owner [17:29]
Lynnwoodsure. [17:29]
CalebSGi think so @Lynnwood [17:29]
LynnwoodIn that case, i'd recommend created a DataForm that has several fields, one of which is "Owner".
you might also consider having a "TopicTitle" field and "Summary" field.
The TopicTitle field is built into the main skins as an alternative displayed name to the actual topic name.
let me point you to a couple of relevant documentation topics.
[17:29]
CalebSGsure that would be great, thanks. [17:31]
LynnwoodThese will be in your local installation: System.DataForms
and System.FAQAnApplicationWithWikiForm
so you can read these in the System web of your local installation, or view them on Foswiki.org.
http://foswiki.org/System/DataForms
i think that's right...
[17:33]
CalebSGYep i know how to find them so that should work great [17:35]
Lynnwoodi can't think of where to point you to read about the TopicType field...
but basically, if a topic has that field, the value will be displayed automatically in any WikiWord links.
[17:36]
CalebSGok
So as a concept I want to have one topic with a form attached that lets me identify these specific topics that have an Owner
then on each of those topic pages I use the SEARCH macro to pull in the owner
does that make sense to you?
[17:36]
Lynnwoodsure.
or have a general page with a form to enable filtering by owner...
[17:38]
CalebSGok [17:39]
Lynnwoodit list all topics or allows filtering by Owner.
it should cover this in DataForms topic or the other topic I pointed you to, but you can have that field automatically filled in when the topic is created.
Opps - i said something wrong above:
I said to include a TopicType field. I meant to say "TopicTitle" field.
So if you have a topic call MyGreatTopic which has the TopicTitle field with a value of somthing like "My Great Topic!",
any where that you put MyGreatTopic in the text of a topic, not only would it automatically link to the topic, the link would actually display the text "My Great Topic!" automatically. No bracketed links or anything required.
hope that makes sense.
[17:39]
CalebSGThat would be cool, thanks for the tip. It does make sense [17:42]
Lynnwoodvery good :-)
feel free to ask follow up questions if you run into problems
[17:43]
......... (idle for 42mn)
CalebSGseems like I'm missing something right in front of my face, but after I create the DataForm how do "call" that form in a topic? or must I create an HTML form? [18:25]
i.e., how do I entere data values after creating the definition, enabling the form and linking it to the topic? [18:33]
MichaelDaumCalebSG, those DataForms are "attached" to a wiki topic using the "Add form" button in the edit dialog.
The DataForm is defining the model for the data you want to capture per topic it is attached to.
the real net data is inserted during an edit of that topic
the foswiki core will create an appropriate html form for your DataForm definition automatically
[18:34]
CalebSGSo (using database terms) each time I need a new record I create a new topic with that form attached? And then to display all records, create another topic with the SEARCH variable that pulls all records for that form? [18:38]
MichaelDaumcorrect [18:39]
CalebSGohhhh, the light is slowly coming on
been doing all database work lately and just trying to get my head around the new paradigm!
[18:39]
MichaelDaumalternatively, store a bunch of DataForm records in just one topic using MetaDataPlugin. [18:40]
CalebSGok I saw that Plugin, that's what it will be for then. [18:40]
MichaelDaumit really depends on the application needs [18:41]
CalebSGgotcha [18:41]
MichaelDaumfor instance having a BlogEntry DataForm or a ProjectTopic ... might cry for one DataForm per page.
however your ProjectMembers would best go into the same ProjectTopic
so you can mix both things as well
in the case of a project app, you'd have the ProjectTopic DataForm and the ProjectMember DataForm being used differently on one MyCuteProjectPage
does that make sense?
[18:41]
CalebSGyes I believe so [18:44]
MichaelDaum:) [18:44]

CalebSGOn the DBCachePlugin the installation instructions indicate the user should run cd <foswiki-root>/bin; ./rest /DBCachePlugin/updateCache while the server has been taken offline
I am doing this on a Windows server which is fine -- can execute the perl there etc. but the part I'm stumped on is I cannot find an updateCache script
