FeigrimCan I change the look of forms the way I can with tables? [09:14]
***ChanServ sets mode: +o Lynnwood [09:14]
..... (idle for 21mn)
CDotFeigrim: you would need to edit the templates to do that (e.g. create a custom skin) [09:35]
Feigrimok
I will look into that
[09:42]
............... (idle for 1h14mn)
the guide on how to modify patternskin templates mentions the templates directory over and over again, but doesn't give the actual path. there are quite a few directories on my foswiki server named templates [10:56]
***ChanServ sets mode: +o MartinCleaver [11:06]
Feigrimhttp://foswiki.org/System/PatternSkinCustomization
that's the page I'm talking about, which of all the templates directories am I supposed to use?
ok apparnetly it's /var/www/templates
[11:09]
anyone have a guide for how to create a .tmpl file to change the appearance of all forms in the wiki=
?
[11:20]
ModAcOstWhat do you want to change? [11:22]
FeigrimI want to declare the same things I do for tables, like tableborder, cellpadding, headerbg, databg etc
so my forms looks at least similar to my tables
[11:22]
ModAcOstSo you want to change css only? Do you already have a custom css file loaded? [11:23]
FeigrimI do not think there is any custom css file loaded
I have never touched that stuff at least
[11:23]
ModAcOstOk, the easiest way to do this (I think) is to create a custom css file. [11:24]
Feigrimok is there a guide on how to do that, because I have never touched css [11:25]
ModAcOstJust a sec... [11:26]
Hmm,
haven't tried it myself but how does this work for you:
create a css file with http://pastebin.com/tMhuc0MF and attach it to some WebPreferences
Use it instead of patterns style.css
[11:32]
Ok, I tryed it and it doesn't work for borders... there is an important rule in colors.css [11:42]
Feigrimdo you think it will work for anything else? [11:46]
ModAcOstOh, actually the important rule is for the background-color
So for anything except the background-color it should work, however border-color must be overwritten in a custom colors.css
[11:47]
Feigrimthere are like 20 different colors.css files on this foswiki server [11:49]
ModAcOstLook in Main.SitePreferences which is beeing used [11:49]
Feigrimthere is no colors.css referenced in Main.SitePreferences [11:49]
ModAcOstCreate a topic and enter %FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL% [11:52]
Feigrimah thanks
hmm, the path it gives does not exist on server, it says /foswiki/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css
there is no foswiki directory in the root of the server
[11:53]
ModAcOstIts under pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css [11:56]
Feigrimthere is no /pub directory either
please give the actual path starting from /
[11:56]
ModAcOstIts under /var/www/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css but you do not really need that file. [11:58]
Feigrimbut I should create a new file in that directory? [11:58]
ModAcOstCreate a customcolors.css and attach it to some WebPreferences
Add in @import url('/foswiki/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css') in the first line
And then your customizations below
[11:59]
Feigrimok [12:00]
ModAcOstUse it as your colors.css by setting SET FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL = /pub/Main/WebPreferences/customcolors.css in your SitePreferences
better: Set FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL = %PUBURLPATH%/Main/WebPreferences/customcolors.css
[12:01]
Feigrimhmm, that changed a bunch of stuff, the look of tables, added lines at the top, changed the color of links etc [12:03]
ModAcOstWhere did you put your css file? [12:03]
Feigrimsame directory as colors.css [12:04]
ModAcOstWhats your FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL?
Does the table have the desired colour?
[12:05]
Feigrim/foswiki/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css
no the tables did not change
forms I mean
[12:05]
ModAcOstWhat did you change then? [12:06]
FeigrimI just added that 1px solid red [12:06]
ModAcOstTo what? [12:06]
Feigrimbut the problem is that the entire theme and look of Foswiki changed
I added that to the customcolors.css file
I made a customcolors.css that looks exactly like your pastebin
[12:06]
ModAcOstChange @import url('/foswiki/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css')
Which variable did you set?
[12:08]
FeigrimI made the customcolors.css exactly like your pastebin
but again the contents of customcolors.css is not the immediate problem since adding the Set FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL to Site.Preferences changes the theme of all of Foswiki
and that is not desirable
[12:09]
ModAcOstYou need to change the @import(...) to @import url('/foswiki/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css') [12:11]
Feigrimok I did and the theme is still wrong
like it seems to have reverted to a default theme, with blue link text and purple visited links etc
are you sure the path to customcolors.css should be /foswiki/pub/Main/WebPreferences/customcolors.css?
because that's not where the file is located on the server
[12:12]
ModAcOstBut the url to your wiki is http://servername.com/foswiki/... [12:14]
Feigrimit's http://hostname.domain.se/foswiki [12:15]
ModAcOstLet me check... [12:15]
First change the .foswikiFormTable to table.foswikiFormTable
What skin do you use and what color did you expect for the links?
[12:22]
Feigrimdunno if we use a skin, this wiki was set up years ago before I started here [12:27]
ModAcOstIf your links are not blue you have customized it in some way. [12:28]
Feigrimwell links are blue but visited links are also blue [12:29]
ModAcOstOk [12:29]
Feigrimso there is some sort of custom thing done [12:29]
ModAcOstVisited links should be blue [12:29]
Feigrimok
with the Set FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL they are purple
[12:30]
ModAcOstWhich means he failed to load the css [12:30]
Feigrim* Set FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL = %PUBURLPATH%/Main/WebPreferences/customcolors.css
that's what I added
[12:31]
ModAcOstAh, but you didn't put it there^^ [12:31]
Feigrimit's added to SitePreferences [12:32]
ModAcOstAttach that customstyle.css to Main/WebPreferences
Add it to WebPreferences
[12:32]
Feigrimsame thing in WebPreferences page?
or different syntax?
[12:33]
ModAcOstIf you set the preference in SitePreferences it should be ok [12:33]
FeigrimI pasted in the same thing from SitePreferences to WebPreferences but I don't see any difference [12:34]
ModAcOstSo you have FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL = %PUBURLPATH%/Main/WebPreferences/customcolors.css [12:35]
Feigrimyes [12:35]
ModAcOstand attached customcolors.css to Main.WebPreferences [12:35]
FeigrimI have pasted in * Set FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL = %PUBURLPATH%/Main/WebPreferences/customcolors.css
in Min/WebPrefences wiki page
Main*
[12:35]
ModAcOstYour first line says @import url('/foswiki/pub/System/PatternSkinTheme/colors.css') [12:36]
Feigrimyes with a ; at the end [12:36]
ModAcOstWhat browser? [12:36]
FeigrimChrome
tried Firefox now too and it looks the same
[12:37]
ModAcOstpress [shift] + [ctrl] + I
Switch to tab "Network"
[12:38]
Feigrimyep
customcolors.css is red
status cancelled
[12:39]
ModAcOstWhat path does it request it from? [12:40]
Feigrim/foswiki/pub/Main/WebPreferences [12:40]
ModAcOstIf you look at style.css what path does it request it from? [12:41]
Feigrim/foswiki/pub/Sustem/PatternSkinTheme
which is the actual path
[12:41]
ModAcOstHmm [12:41]
Feigrimcan't I just get it to read customcolors.css from its actual path, just like with style.css? [12:41]
ModAcOstIt should actually be in pub/Main/WebPreferences [12:42]
Feigrimso I should move the file on the server? [12:42]
ModAcOstIt is generally not a good idea to place files in other extentions, they might be overwritten on updates etc.
If its not in that directory, yes!
[12:42]
Feigrimok
there is no Main directory in /var/www/pub
[12:43]
ModAcOstYou can attach the file from the wiki
Just go to Main/WebPreferences
Press Attach
[12:45]
Feigrimbut the file is not on the same machine as the one I am using the browser on
but I guess I can create a new one
[12:46]
ModAcOstOr download the old one [12:47]
Feigrimok I attached it now
and it is able to load it now
but my theme is still not right
[12:48]
ModAcOstAny other red files in chrome? [12:50]
FeigrimI don't understand why it has to be so complicated to just tell Foswiki that all forms should look a certain way without having to mess with the rest of the foswiki theme
no, no red files
[12:50]
ModAcOstIt isn't really that complicated, just hard to explain over irc [12:50]
Feigrimthey should look into having something similar to %TABLE{ }% that you can put in when you make a form
and just declare how the form should look there
ok so the theme is different depending on what section I am on
one of the sections still has the old correct theme
and now I don't know how to revert the other ones back to that theme
[12:51]
ModAcOstJust remove the Set FOSWIKI_COLORS_URL [12:54]
Feigrimok it's back to the way it was now, phew
could I not just change the settings for the Forms part of the wiki?
since there is where all the forms are made
[12:55]
ModAcOstAfaik the forms for PatternSkin are defined in templates/form.pattern.tmpl
You can create a form.custom.tmpl and set your skin like this: Set SKIN = custom, pattern
[12:58]
Feigrimso I should add things to that file to change the colors of the forms? [13:02]
ModAcOstYes. copy form.pattern.tmpl to form.custom.tmpl
In the line <table class=".... write something like <table style="border-color: red;" class="...
[13:02]
FeigrimI should make a new tag? [13:04]
ModAcOstnew tag? [13:04]
FeigrimI think I got it
ok so where do I put the Set SKIN =?
hmm, have to go, I'll look at this more tomorrow, thanks for your help so far

jamesd_we are moving off an old foswiki server, to a new one, we want to keep the old one around in read-only mode just in case someone complains the new version is different, how do I disable all editing of documents with all the old Access controls in place. [22:26]
....... (idle for 33mn)
SvenDowideiti've just used apache settings to prevent any access other than view
or another option is to use the configure auth settings require auth for all scripts other than view, and then to remove all users and passwords from the usermapper
[22:59]
jamesd_many of the documents had ACL's that must remain in tact, I guess I will go the apache mod_rewrite method. [23:03]
