jastcan anyone think of a reason I would get this in the *body* of a response to GET /bin/rest/Foo/bar? https://dpaste.de/TEKF [08:17]

jastthis seems to be an issue with returning from a sub within a catch{} block
on some systems it works as expected, on others the 'return' within the catch{} block is ignored
[13:36]
gac410abandoning try/catch is on a wish list. The developer of error.pm recommends against it's use
WARNING Using the "Error" module is no longer recommended due to the black-magical nature of its syntactic sugar, which often tends to break. Its maintainers have stopped actively writing code that uses it, and discourage people from doing so.
[13:38]
jastthis is code in Foswiki/UI.pm [13:38]
gac410Right, but try / catch is a mess. [13:39]
........... (idle for 54mn)
CDotreturn within a catch() block won't work, ever
and yes, there's a task somewhere to convert from Error.pm to one of the other try/catch implementations
I vaguely recall it was Babar looking at it
[14:33]
gac410i think we all talked about it years ago, but it's a huge effort [14:35]
CDotis it? our use of try/catch isn't that sophisticated
try/catch/otherwise is about as clever as we get
and the exception classes are well encapsulated
of course it depends on the substitute implementation, how clever it is.
[14:35]
gac410Yeah, but it's used all over the place. And in our test framework as well. Since I don't really understand all the magic, it's complicated to me anyway :) [14:36]
jastI was misleading myself with the whole try/catch thing. sorry for not pointing that out earlier. the problem is caused by something else. no idea what... [14:39]
Babaryeah, I vaguely looked at it
and suggested what to use
but...
[14:39]
CDotright. Well, discussion on the issues elsewhere (fw-sec) [14:42]

jaston an unrelated note: have you guys seen issues with IE ignoring the X-UA-Compatible header/tag? we have one user (out of thousands) where IE8 decides to render in IE7 compat mode, despite the tag that explicitly tells IE to use the most recent mode. works fine for all other users we've talked to... [15:44]
gac410CDot: your fix to Item12570 which you provided by pastebin. Any reason that shouldn't go into 1.1.9, [15:50]
CDotlink? [15:50]
gac410All... Any other "favorite issues" ... I'm going to try to start on 1.1.9 ... finally [15:50]
CDotI queued a few, IIRC [15:50]
gac410http://pastebin.com/NJNpy7NE [15:51]
CDotoh yeah, deffo, that needs to go in. Bruiser compatibility issue. [15:51]
jastthe list-style-type change might affect existing stylesheets [15:52]
gac410http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item12448 seems important, but anything wysiwyg will be a bear to fix. :(
Hm... Foswikibot is missing.
[15:52]
jastI didn't do it!
in completely unrelated news, I have to go. ;) have a nice day!
[15:52]
CDotit died after babar updated some stuff on the server, IIRC (sorry, babar, if it wasn't you) [15:53]
gac410And changing bullet markup ... I suspect will also have wysiwyg implications [15:53]
Babaroh.
nobody told me :(
and it was gmc who updated the server, so then I had to update the rest.
[15:54]
gac410regarding style changes, IIRC changing the skins caused major angst by some folks. Should never be done in a patch release. [15:54]
CDotyeah, that's a bugger to fix
parsing CSS isn't high on my list of "wanna-dos"
[15:55]
gac410I don't know if that will impact Item12570 [15:55]
................. (idle for 1h24mn)
CDotthat's a duplicate
no, it isn't. 'scuse me while I engage the other brain cell.
[17:19]
gac410:) [17:19]
jastmine are completely offline
on my way home I was waiting at a pedestrian light... for quite some time... and suddenly I realized it'd been on green the whole time
[17:25]
CDotcolour blindness..... that's the first sign. [17:27]
jast...of? :) [17:27]
CDotjast: having to ask what it's a sign of..... that's the second sign
ok, Item12570 checked in
now, I must eat.

foswiki_irc5question about PatternSkin
I am new to foswiki and would like to setup PatternTheme FatWilly. But I want to change the name of the webtopic - how to do it ?
hello
[18:09]
jasthello??? why isn't everyone answering immediately?? [18:17]

gac410hm... more unit test lack-of-coverage. I would expect CDot's change to list rendering from type='a' to the css style would break some tests. They all pass. [19:32]
