CDotCDot has been looking through 1.2.0 release blocks with a view to the Foswiki Camp next week. Very useful if other people could do the same! [09:56]

JulianLevensCDot: did that about a month ago now. I suppose I should look again now the Camp in imminent
Done very little FW lately, hopefully the Camp will give me a boost
and I suggest you come to the Foswiki Camp this week not next :)

CDotthis week? OMG! ;-) [12:16]
RyanShererAnyone noticed any issue with doing searches and it doing an endless search? I'm getting errors in the apache logs about script timed out before returning headers. Happens only on a specific web so far, and occurs when a "." is in the string, e.g. file.config, httpd.conf, etc
I reported this before, though it happened when a forward slash was leading the string, like, /tmp, or /home
I've added the Timeout to the Foswiki.conf, and tried a few different values, doesn't seem to help.
If it helps, there are 575 files in the directory for the web that is having this issue.
Also noticing that the string people are reporting the issue for, doesn't exist... so that's odd that it is timing out vs. returning no results.
[12:18]
CDotRyanSherer: query search? Or a plain text search? [12:30]
RyanShererplain text search: http://my.url/Web/WebSearch?search=text.file&scope=all&web=Web
Since it's an internal instance, and locked down, I'll try and explain it best I can. Let me know if I need to clarify anything.
Original issue, IRC chat link is in there too: http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item12594 if you want to give it a read

CDotInteresting; George's conclusion was exactly what I immediately guessed. /me tries it locally [12:52]
RyanShererSo, I found something new that I hadn't caught before...
I'll try and explain it as best as I can, gimme a sec to type it out
Say you search for "test.file", without the quotes of course, it'll go forever and ever until something kills it (like Apache), you can see in the URL that it shows test+file, which is the same as searching for "test file".
Oddd.....
If I redo the search as "test file" it works totally fine.
[12:53]
CDotCDot doesn't see it going wrong.....
works fine for me. Can you reproduce it on foswiki.org?
and once you've tried that.... what plugins are installed?
[12:56]
RyanShererI can try, though it seems only this one string throws it all off.
All I know we have is syntax highlighting instaled.
installed*
Lemme test it on sandbox again
sec
Doesn't look like I can replicate this outside.
Which sucks.
[12:57]
CDotit would help to know where it was getting stuck. I'm guessing you have a pretty standard setup, so grep is being spawned to do the search? [13:00]
RyanShererYea, I can't do dtrace on it since it isn't compiled with the kernel (I will try and get that done today, but requires a reboot), so it makes it that much more difficult to see where it is getting stuck at.
Yes, it is fairly basic, from what I know.
[13:01]
CDotwell, you can check the grep by enabling monitoring in the store [13:02]
RyanShererChecking... [13:03]
CDotlib/Foswiki/Sandbox.pm - set TRACE => 1 and run the command again. The apache log will show the grep being sent off, and you can run it from the command line.
actually RyanSherer, on that thought, can you run the search on the command line? cd to the bin directory and do ./view -topic=<sometopic> -search=text.file <..other params...>
[13:03]
RyanShererYea, gimme sec. [13:06]
CDotfaster, faster!
;-)
[13:06]
RyanShererLol
soooo much output
[13:06]
CDot"less" is your friend :-) [13:07]
RyanShererOh yes it is.
Still, so much output.
lol
[13:07]
CDoty, well, it's an HTML page.
anyway, that's a good sign, because the search obviously isn't getting stuck
[13:08]
RyanShererGot a doc page for ./view by chance?
Need to figure out all the flags
[13:11]
CDotCommandLineCGIScripts
the flags are just the HTML params, but on the cmd line
[13:11]
RyanShereroh...
heh
Seems to be working via cli
[13:13]
CDotOK. That tends to rule out any obvious problem in FW.
of course there are minor formatting differences when run from the browser, but in general it's much the same. So the finger is pointing at the comms to the browser.
Couple of things to watch out for; are you running mod_pagespeed, for example? That tends to like content to exactly match the Content-Length header, which is doesn't sometimes in FW
Are you running fcgid? (And if not, why not? :-)
[13:19]
RyanShererNo, not running mod pagespeed
Not running mod_fcgi either
[13:21]
CDotcan you get it to freeze when you access the URL from the command line (curl or ab, for example?) [13:22]
RyanShererLemme check via curl, I tried this once, but don't remember the results.
sec
Still waiting. lol
Looks like it does the same with curl
[13:23]
CDotok. Well, I'm a bit stuck to know what to suggest next. Clearly the problems is with the server, but goodness alone knows what it is! [13:27]
RyanShererYea, I'll keep checking it out.
I'll see if fcgi does better on a test box for this
Thanks
[13:29]
CDotsorry I couldn't be of more help :-( [13:30]
