WhoWhatWhen
gregg4567gac410: long time now talk. Thanks for your help getting foswiki up on my gentoo system. Do you use foswiki for project/task mgmt.
?
[00:02]
gac410no, actually as I'm retired, my only really day to day use is the foswiki.org site.
anyway... hows things going gregg4567
[00:03]
gregg4567well, trying to figure how to consolidate some things.
I like perl, but on gentoo the only portage project mgmt acceptable package is dotproject.
it is php based.
there is little activity on dotproject but it seems like a great open source project that I wish would proceed and provide some new functionality.
I want to start using Catalyst and learning it, but it would not help me with the dotproject project at all.
Trying to keep my day job going so learning php, zend framework and dotproject, and then catalyst is killing me.
[00:05]
gac410:) [00:09]
gregg4567:-(
why dont these people just use perl? KISS principle? Irritating.
[00:10]
dotproject is mysql based. I think there are some modules of foswiki that work with databases, right?
thanks again gac410. Gotta go.

xdaxdbcan I add more fields to a DataForm after that form is already in use? [01:11]
..... (idle for 20mn)
gac410xdaxdb: yes. When you then update a topic it will gain the new fields.
We've done that on our Tasks web several times.
[01:31]
xdaxdbcool
and single multi-value that only applies to "select" fields?
[01:37]
gac410Didn't quite understand, You mean adding valid values to select fields? [01:38]
xdaxdbThe data type defines the kind of input: text, date, single or multi-value, or labels (read-only).
thats a quote from the dataform wiki
single or multi-value, that must refer to "select" type fields
how i would love multi-value text fields
but i doubt it works that way
for example: Usually a server has 1 IP address, but sometimes it has 2 and sometimes it has more than 2
[01:39]
gac410Yeah, we usually enter them in a text field comma or space delimited. [01:43]
xdaxdbI don't want to have to define Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, etc each time
as in a single line text field or a text area
?
[01:43]
gac410usually single line text field I don't do a lot with form based applications. Might be best to ask this one more than once. [01:45]
xdaxdbok thanks
i had no idea foswiki had this sort of functionality.. this is great
[01:45]
gac410Take a look at some of the Foswiki applications - like our Tasks web. [01:46]

xdaxdbI was actually going to try and write an application of my own to do this but it looks like that will be totally redundant now :) [01:47]
gac410There are also jquery based helpers etc. that can validate / populate fields from queries against foswiki
Based on the jquery autocomplete tools.

gac410MichaelDaum: We've lived quite a while now on trunk with cancel using view. There is the one issue where cancel from create goes to the wrong place.
Need to decide what to do for 1.2 ... revert all the work, or solve the redirect link when topic being edited doesn't exist.
[14:09]
MichaelDaumHi George. Yea seen this. I thought I fixed it on the FoswikiCamp .... hm [14:09]
gac410Oh... If you did, never mind [14:10]
MichaelDaumplease double check in case there is another source for this.
it basically was an issue where the manage cgi script was used to create a new topic or so ...which then got canceled.
[14:10]
gac410Okay ... I'll give it a quick test. We also opened a security hole in 1.2 with the change to remove rest from default AuthScripts. The work to make registerRESThandler default to secure was not done. [14:11]
MichaelDaumI changed the create-new-topic-form to use the standard edit cgi script instead [14:11]

xdaxdbgac410: so you were saying I could have a page that dynamically did a search of topics by form data and displayed them... you got a link to anything that would walk me through it?
I already made a DataForm and linked it to a few topic pages
now i just need the search page
I want to search by FormData not by topic title or author or anything like that
formdata, dataform ? lmao
[16:21]
.... (idle for 15mn)
actually, gac410 I think i found it [16:39]
gac410For a complex example See http://foswiki.org/Tasks/WysiwygPlugin?raw=on and http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Component?raw=on The search is in the Component, down in the Verbatim block ...the startinclude section.
It's a good example of putting it all together, DataForms, INCLUDE, and transcluding (including a part of your own topic)
oh.. and formatted search

xdaxdbthanks [17:20]
................ (idle for 1h18mn)
CDotFn_SEARCH is failing, and I don't think it's anything to do with my changes. Looks like something to do with topic ordering.... [18:38]
gac410Yeah. That's one of the perl issues. I already have a task [18:44]
GithubBot[foswiki] FoswikiBot pushed 1 new commit to master: http://git.io/9_wfXA
foswiki/master 56c53d1 CrawfordCurrie: Item11833: standardise use of $value(display), clean up templates using it and simplify templates using complex context IFs where TMPL:P can be used instead...

FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item11833 [ Item11833: FORMFIELD does not render a field using =renderForDisplay= whereas SEARCH does ] [18:45]
gac410Store returns a sorted array, but at some place yet unknow, it changes to a hash and has scrambled order. [18:45]
CDotic [18:46]
gac410With older perl it was predictable, and some of our tests depended upon a predictable, though not necessarily sorted, order [18:46]
CDotok, well, I've run out of time to look. Gotta eat. cya! [18:46]
gac410Some of the Group tests fail because the group order keeps changing too.
I might have fixed that one though.

gac410howdy pharvey. I hijacked and implemented your feature proposal to fix up the START/END vs. START/STOP for include and sections [22:38]
pharveyawesome! :) [22:39]
gac410hope you don't mind :) [22:39]
pharveythe worst part is I seem to recall hacking it on a local branch somewhere, but never got to testing/doccing yet :) [22:40]
gac410It was pretty simple to implement. Tests were the hardest part.
Mainly just made all the regexes match (?:STOP|END)
[22:41]
pharveyalso, probably due to sleep deprivation (arriving at work at 7am! I didn't even know there was a 7am) what was it that I promised to do two weekends ago but still haven't yet?
git related
oh yeah carve out the default extensions
probably should do that on f.o itself to save on bandwidth
[22:42]
gac410I figured you'd get to to it eventually. :) [22:43]
You had another one that looks pretty simple on the 1.2 release plan. http://foswiki.org/Development/CustomNewUserTemplates
Do you have that stashed anywhere?
[22:48]
pharveyI did :( I seem to recall some difficulty making the changes nice enough to merge to trunk
pharvey has a look
[22:50]
gac410Another one .. looks partially implemented? http://foswiki.org/Development/ConfigurableCookieNamesAndPaths The Task listed is actually for an extension Item1636 [22:52]

gac410No need to dig into any of this now. Just when you get a chance, please update their status so we can figure out if it goes forward into 1.2, reverts, or ??? [22:53]
pharveyYes, I'm long overdue to clean up my outstanding messes. [22:55]
gac410We all have left a bit of a mess behind. I've still got a mess left with the LogDispatch stuff
Maybe we ought to have a "Needs Adoption" status for feature proposals :)
[23:05]

pharveyI've been thinking of ways to recruit more hands. Obviously GH seems the most obvious step... but then... I think of CPAN-ification :}
but that's a huge time-sink. I'd like to play with it a bit before abandoning that idea completely though.
[23:10]
gac410I worry that we have so many distro issues with CPAN anyway, does CPANificiatino help us or hurt? [23:11]
pharveyThere's a whole perl community out there who don't consider non-cpan projects worthy of their time
of course, it doesn't necessarily mean we would get a single contributor
but there's CPAN Testers infrastructure that is *potentially* useful, and I have some ideas on munging UnitTestContrib output to make it amenable to that.
...more amenable, I should say.
You're right, it's not a move you'd dive into straight away :)
I'm just looking at feasibility. It's probably infeasible, I just want to prove or disprove this assumption to myself
[23:12]
gac410gac410 is a bit nervous about that one. Github though I think would be a big win. [23:14]
pharveysure, that's the priority for now. [23:14]
gac410pharvey, I'm going to defer Foswiki:Development/FormatArbitraryTimes to 2.0 as well. It doesn't look like anything has been done, and I think reworking date/time handling makes sense for a I18N focused release. [23:23]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Development/FormatArbitraryTimes [ FormatArbitraryTimes ] [23:23]
pharveyagree [23:23]
gac410pharvey, you are also listed on Foswiki:Development/WysiwygFormFields along with SvenDowideit. He left it as it needs untangling from a plugin. Item8032. [23:27]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item8032 [ Item8032: The means to put WYSIWYG on form fields ] http://foswiki.org/Development/WysiwygFormFields [ WysiwygFormFields ] [23:27]
pharveyYeah. I was hoping that would be an easy one to include in a 1.2 release [23:27]
gac410Ping SvenDowideit Are you around? Any word on the WysiwygFormFields work? Is it something you could finish off for 1.2,
gac410 has decided to stay way way far away from the Wysiwyg / TMCE plugins after my experiment at supporting multiple editors.
er editor versions.
pharvey ... what are your thoughs on how we end up integrating with github? Use the github hooks to tickle foswiki.org when things change, or just pull from github in a cronjob
I suppose for core, doing a pull ever 15 minutes is not a huge load. But for the 100s of other extensions, someone would probably object :)
[23:27]
pharveythere is a decent API in CPAN I think
which could narrow down which repos need to be pulled
[23:38]
gac410The github hooks can issue an http: request with details of a lot of stuff. My concern would be securing it. [23:39]
pharveyah, I was thinking a cron job on f.o that uses the GH api to figure out what to pull
haven't really looked into the webhook thingies.
[23:40]
gac410They look pretty flexible. Or we could even apply and write an official extension, like the email extension, to push to the tasks web or the like [23:41]
pharveysounds cool
I just lack the headspace for it atm
[23:41]
gac410yup. same here. I'm hoping a bunch of us have enough microheadspace available to put it all together :) [23:42]
pharvey:)
Have you done much flying lately? I suppose it's a bad time of year for it over there
[23:42]
gac410CDot is the only one who will go along, but really doesn't want to be involved.
Not a lot of flying. Weather this winter/spring has been AWFUL. Until a few days ago we were still below 0 C and threats of snow.
[23:43]
pharveyouch! [23:44]
gac410Today was a nice day finally, got out to do some yard work. Plane is in the shop for it's Annual Inspection. :( [23:44]
pharveydo they usually find much to charge you for?
pharvey curious about plane ownership :)
I thought I would find "Airplane Repo" an interesting TV programme... but it turns out it's utterly staged
[23:45]
gac410Not usually. Little annoying things. It really depends on the shop. The one we go to is not the cheapest around, Never watched Airplane Repo. [23:46]
pharveyThey had a scene where the pilots who had "reposessed" the plane under contrived circumstances started panicking about fuel
the camera zoomed on the fuel gauge which had a needle on "E"
except that the "fuel gauge" also had other marks on it, like "N", "S", "W"....
...
...
WTF
I still have fun with the R/C toys, although I lost a bunch of LiPos this summer leaving them in the car accidentally
[23:46]
gac410LOL And I'll be the masses bought it. Ah.. right turn 90 deg. and now we have "S"ome fuel. [23:48]
pharveyeven my cheap Qi wireless phone charger/dock melted all its plastic on the dash
it was pretty funny on reflection, but at the time I was pretty angry at the TV :)
[23:49]
gac410I spent today installing a Grid Charger to my Honda Insight. The battery died - I wasn't driving it enough. Trickle charging at 168 Volts. [23:49]
pharveycool, what sort of Honda is that?
I didn't drive my Hyundai enough last year for about 4 months and had to replace the battery :/ Well, I could've left the original in there. But it had discharged below 9V... not going to rely on it too much after that.
[23:50]
gac410It's their original Battery Hybrid . 2001 with 168000 miles on it. Dealer replaced the battery a couple of years ago. $7000 but they covered most on a "goodwill warranty" [23:51]
pharveycool
I hear Teslas have trouble staying charged with cold weather
[23:51]
gac410Well, it died a few months later ... they replaced it again. Turns out you really need to drive a hybrid every day. [23:52]
pharveyIt's always blown my mind that the only way you could charge a hybrid was with petrol
and then they had the nerve to patent the idea of charging batteries with electricity
"plug-in hybrid"
jerks
[23:52]
gac410Don't know. I've been trying to rationalize a Tesla vs. the Chevy Volt. Need to replace the insight
Double the price though for the Tesla vs. Volt. A bit of a premium but for a real rocket.
[23:53]
pharveyfor some reason I thought the Volt was an old design [23:53]
gac410Different names for different countries I guess. Volt is only a couple of years old. A plug-in with a on-board gas generator to extend the range if the battery gets low. [23:54]
pharveyNever mind, I'm thinking of the GM EV1 [23:55]
