jastdoes it matter? [09:42]
argh... in IE11 trunk's configure asks for the password twice; the first time there's no message and hitting 'return' is a no-op
also the actual configure page loads seemingly forever
or crashes the browser, depending on its mood

studentI'm having problem geting Set commands to work when I'm including these from another topic - is there a way to do this? [12:30]
gac410No, You can't do that. Set statements are never processed through an include. [12:31]
studentIs there a plugin that can achieve this effect? [12:31]
gac410One (ugly) workaround is to use the SpreadSheedPlugin $Set [12:31]
studentLOL - thanks - I'll look at that [12:31]
gac410You have to use %CALC{$SET and %CALC{$GET [12:32]
studentOK - thank you [12:32]

ms_tudwith NatSkin/TopicInteractionPlugin, where can I make it so that guests (without being logged in) can see attachments? If I remove "rest" from {AuthScripts}, they can but also can upload/delete attachments, which is undesirable ofc. [13:24]
jasthave you configured access control to prevent guests from changing content? [13:27]
ms_tudprobably not. I'm trying to migrate from an older twiki version to the latest foswiki and am not quite familiar with it yet. Can you point me to the right direction, i.e. where can I do this? [13:28]
gac410A quick check of the TopicInteractionPlugin code - it does check for permissions. Have you confirmed that guests can actually make changes? [13:29]
ms_tudyes [13:30]
MichaelDaumms_tud, please read up on http://foswiki.org/System/AccessControl how to properly set access controls [13:31]
jast'making changes' includes changes to attachments :)
so, setting ALLOW/DENYWEBCHANGE and such will lock down both editing pages and modifying attachments
[13:31]
gac410ms_tud: ACL's are pretty much the same TWiki and Foswiki. The plugin checks that the topic has ALLOWTOPICCHANGE for the current user ... at least deleteAttachment does. [13:32]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum is pretty sure there are no DENYWEBCHANGE = WikiGuest anywhere in ms_tud's wiki [13:32]
ms_tudok, but is it safe to have "rest" removed from AuthScripts or does that expose any kind of security vulnerability? [13:33]
MichaelDaumcheck System.SitePermissions for an overview of all perms on all webs
ms_tud, depends on the plugins that you have installed on your system
all plugins' rest handlers I know of properly check ACLs, either explicitly or further down the engine as part of the core.
[13:33]
ms_tudok, thanks you. [13:35]
gac410gac410 got bit by the bug to attempt to refactor SpreadSheetPlugin last night. Hopefully the quality is better than my Foswiki.spec checkin :) [13:40]

TarboxIs there a way to check the dependencies of a plugin without re-installing it? [14:22]
gac410from shell? You can run the installer with the dependencies option [14:23]
TarboxI've always used bin/configure. What's the command to use in the shell? [14:23]
gac410perl NameOfPlugin_installer dependencies You need the _installer file available. There should be a copy saved in working/configure iirc
For ex: perl working/configure/pkgdata/NatSkin_installer dependencies
[14:25]
CDot: Opinion? Probably 1/3 of the SSP::Calc.pm routines could be converted to a fairly simple anonymous hash:
EVEN => sub { ( _getNumber($_[0]) + 1 ) % 2 },
EXP => sub { exp( _getNumber($_[0]) ) },
Eliminating all of the spaghetti if/elsif/elsif code and minimizing the named subroutine count
More complex would be a code ref: SUBSTRING => \&_SUBSTRING,
Thoughts. Should I check it in for a look-see?
[14:40]
CDotgac410: EVEN => sub { !(_getNumber($_[0]) & 1) } [14:43]
gac410Well... So far I'm mostly just converting what's in place, not fixing :) [14:44]
CDot:-)
You know me, I'm a big fan of plugin code. So I would probly split it into a package-per-function
[14:44]
jastsounds good to me on general principle, though I haven't looked at the plugin's code yet [14:44]
CDotthus allowing other people to dynamically extend the range of available functions [14:44]
gac410Though found one minor .. INT( 10 / 0 ) Doesn't return an error for the divide by zero. [14:45]
jastperhaps that's by design ;) [14:45]
CDotall should handle exceptions [14:45]
jastwhat does it return? [14:45]
gac4100 [14:45]
jastclose enough [14:45]
gac410:) [14:45]
CDottsk. Should return NaN [14:45]
gac410I changed it to return the perl error string ERROR: divide by zero ...
gac410 wonders. What's the cost of changing from monolithic to dozens of packages, Conversion to packages might be difficult, as a lot of the routines depend upon globals :( :P
gac410 just wanted to make what we have more readable, ... for now.
All the row/col positioning is based upon globals.
[14:46]
TarboxI'm sorry for interrupting again, running the installer command you gave me is returning an error about Net::LDAP::Constant not exporting LDAP_SUCCESS. I know I could just disable ldap for now, but this is an error I'm going to have to confront anyways. Any clue what I did wrong?
I know it's technically not Foswiki's problem...
[14:49]
gac410Ah... well, it's sort of our bug. We need to disable extensions in some cases for the installer to work. It must be missing one. :( [14:51]
TarboxI tried installing all of LdapContrib's listed dependencies.
if there's another plugin it needs I should try that next.
[14:52]
gac410Tarbox: The DEPENDENCIES file is appended to that PluginContrib_installer file So you could just look at the file.
Hang on ... could you step back. What are you trying to resolve?
[14:52]
TarboxOur foswiki crashed.
disk failure
trying to recreate it.
[14:52]
gac410ah... [14:53]
TarboxWe have a backup of foswiki but not what perl stuff was installed. [14:53]
jastyou can run the installer like this to bypass the issue: perl -MNet::LDAP::Constant Foo_installer ... [14:53]
gac410Another +1 for the new 1.2 trunk configure ... It will audit all core *and* extension dependencies. If we ever get to the point of actually releasing it :)
Tarbox, you could also check out the DEPENDENCIES file in our SVN Repository
for ex: http://trac.foswiki.org/browser/trunk/LdapContrib/lib/Foswiki/Contrib/LdapContrib/DEPENDENCIES

TarboxWhat the heck are the big spikes in January? [16:11]
jastpeople taking a few days off from work?
anyway, I don't find the declining popularity _that_ much of an issue. Foswiki is probably "too much" for many people who want I-just-wanna-write-down-a-few-pages-of-random-stuff wikis...
you'll see if you add mediawiki to the list
that's what most people want: look shiny, be simple
OTOH you can't use mediawiki for all the cool stuff that's actually fairly easy to do with foswiki
so the more interesting thing is letting those people who *want* to do cool stuff know about foswiki
[16:11]
TarboxI'm going to go ahead and say TWiki's being floated. [16:16]
jomojast: ofc ;) but xwiki is comparable powerful and tmwiki is still much more popular [16:16]

foswiki_irc6Hi, I work at a company which recently setup FosWiki. If a given user has the edit page open for a given topic, anyone else clicking "edit" for that topic gets a 500 error. Is this behavior intentional? [19:53]
TarboxNo. They're supposed to ge ta warning that someone is already attempting to edit the page.
The script used to generate the warning may not have the same permissions as other scripts, maybe foswiki's problem, maybe apache's, maybe somewhere else.
[19:54]
