gac410hey pharvey ... are you around?
quick git question.
[00:39]
pharveyhere
hi gac410
[00:40]
gac410Howdy.
hows things... hopefully going well.
[00:40]
pharveythings are settling down again. Snowed here yesterday! That's really crazy given that I've only seen snow once before in my whole life :-) [00:41]
gac410So my pseudo-install question. It's generating a git warning. Probably a new change to git. But figured I should check [00:41]
pharveyOh yeah. I think I know which message you mean [00:41]
gac410Wow. Where are you in aus? [00:42]
pharveyCanberra [00:42]
gac410git warning: WARNING: --prefix is not given, defaulting to empty prefix. [00:42]
pharveyI mean, if I was actually from Canberra I probably would've seen snow more often. But I grew up where there definitely wasn't snow :-)
hmmm
pharvey re-cloning foswiki
[00:42]
gac410Complete log at http://foswiki.org/Development/GitRepository#Scratch_area_in_SVN
(convenient heading. not svn related :)
[00:43]
pharveyoh it's git-svn. [00:43]
gac410NO... [00:43]
pharveyno?
that error message comes from git-svn doesn't it?
[00:43]
gac410I'm playing with git@github.com:foswiki/_allFoswiki submodules ... fresh checkout. [00:44]
pharveyok [00:44]
gac410I wonder if pseudo is doing some svn stuff anyway even in pure git env. [00:44]
pharveyI'll see [00:45]
gac410I've proposed we do the svn freeze on Monday and start the cutover.
The git submodules branch-tracking stuff looks like it will work well.
[00:45]
pharveyI'm just waiting for clone to finish. Paid for ADSL2+ and getting exactly 1536kbit... I think they haven't correctly applied my profile at the port
Took damn near 6 weeks just to get a dial-tone haha
[00:50]
gac410wow.
clone of _allFoswiki is really fast. superproject with just a dozen or so submodules
[00:50]
pharveyI'm slowly cloning at ~150KiB/sec [00:51]
gac410yeah finally getting off of DSL last year was a great move. [00:57]
pharveyDone! But I'm on the phone to ISP :) [00:58]
gac410:) Good luck
What is ADSL2+ supposed to provide for bandwidth. When I was on DSL, I was right at the distance limit, so I never really got the advertised rate and upgrades were out of the question.

gac410pharvey: yeah looks like pseudo-install assumes git-svn and always connects to git-svn.
ugh. I guess we need to strip out all the svn support when we make subversion read-only
[02:05]
pharveyhow far out of sync are release & trunk
on pseudo-install
[02:10]
gac410Identical now. I synced them up last night. [02:10]
pharveysilly question I know, I could diff myself, just researching adsl2 modems :/
awesome
[02:10]
gac410probably we need a -nosvn option or similar to disable the git-svn functionality, so we can flip that on once we stablilze svn [02:16]
pharveyShouldn't be too bad to fix. I'm off to buy a new modem though. [02:22]
gac410okay... good luck.
Probably a lousy time of day for you, but release meeting is Monday 8/4 1300Z Hopefully final decision on git migration.
[02:22]
........................... (idle for 2h10mn)
gmci should attend [04:33]
gac410Hi Koen ... that would be good. [04:34]
gmci'm currently at haxogreen, a hackercamp in luxemburg.. should be back on monday though [04:37]
gac410cool
If we go ahead with the git migration, that will keep me busy for a while. Hopefully once that's done, we can branch Release01x02 and need to get back onto weblate.
I disabled FoswikiBot ... didn't see any hints about why it's timing out.
I should probably try to install it on my local server here so I can debug a little easier.
wow... You're up early
or is that late ? haxors keep strange hours.

mtempestHi I'm trying out the github instructions George sent out. I'm using the master branch, which afaik is "trunk". [13:23]
gac410hi mtempest [13:23]
mtempesthi gac410 [13:23]
gac410unfortunately you caught me just about to head out the door. [13:24]
mtempestConfigure doesn't load. I think that it may just be that I don't yet have an LSC. Can anyone confirm that?
mtempest waves
[13:24]
gac410Ah... CDot just yesterday made some major restructuring of configure. perfect timing :(
There is now a "ConfigureContrib" Make sure that is pseudo-installed.
[13:24]
mtempestI saw that checkin and suspected it might be that. I haven't dug too deeply.
It is pseudo-installed.
[13:25]
gac410It *should* run without a LSC, but I have not tested that. So maybe not. It was totally broken yesterday, though he fixed a lot of the issues. [13:26]
mtempestFoswiki::Configure::_loadSiteConfig calls my $sanityUI = Foswiki::Configure::UI::loadChecker( 'BasicSanity', $stub );
(line 435)
[13:26]
gac410When I left last night, it was finally not crashing on trunk.foswiki.org. [13:26]
mtempestEeep.
Oh well :-)
I also have to be off soon. Have a good day.
[13:27]
gac410If you un-install ConfigContrib, then cd to core and "git checkout a61b70abd7a7b0c26516340f200e9e67f4c6888d" That should roll you back to before cdot's big checkin [13:30]
mtempestThanks, I'll give that a go.
I'll pastebin what I found since I'm not up to delving into the new configure code just yet.
[13:30]
gac410when you cd to core, you are in the little "core" repository. From there you can "git checkout master", "git pull" "git log " "git checkout <sha>" ... to put core into whatever state you want.
If you want to experiment, you can "git checkout master" and then "git branch -b mtemp" creating a new branch where you can experiment away without any changes to master
[13:36]
mtempestcool. Thanks. [13:39]
gac410If we had been on git, crawford could have done all his configure experimenting in a newConfigure branch and avoided the pain for us. [13:39]
mtempestI hope cdot can make sense of this: http://pastebin.com/pVZTT9wb [13:39]
gac410Then when he was happy, just merge newCOnfigure into master. [13:39]
mtempestmtempest nods [13:39]
gac410I've got to run out. Then I'll recreate on my git-svn repo where I have a web server running.
Simple enoug to remove lsc. But gotta go. bbl Thanks for digging in!
[13:40]
..... (idle for 22mn)
