gac410jomo, you around? Could you validate Item13402? ( admin password issues). Given that we now can correctly set utf8 passwords via web and tools/configure, is this still an issue? [03:16]

jomogac410: sry for late reaction - i closed the Item13420 - it is no problem anymore ;) [14:25]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13420 [14:25]
jomothanx bot ;) [14:25]
gac410no problem. Have to sleep sometime :)
Yea amazing the bot is staying up. I didn't change anything.
[14:25]
jomo:)
FoswikiBot: commands
FoswikiBot: help
[14:26]
FoswikiBotjomo: Ask me for help about: google, dns, foswiki, vars, join, karma, auth, assemble, seen, infobot, corelist, weather, loader (say 'help <modulename>'). [14:26]
gac410most are not really usable. [14:26]
jomowtf karma
FoswikiBot: help karma
[14:26]
FoswikiBotjomo: Gives karma for or against a particular thing. Usage: <thing>++ # comment, <thing>-- # comment, karma <thing>, explain <thing>. [14:27]
gac410So bot is staying up, but now the server cannot connect to github reliably, so our git mirroring is not current :(
gac410 is trying to build 1.2.0 Beta 2. ... So we have it ready to go if agreed at tomorrow's release meeting.
finding issues with my new system. tool versions, etc. Generated a tarfile full of symlinks a while ago - missing CSS::Minifier :P
[14:28]
jomo;( this is sad. Do you using system's perl? or perlbrew? or what causes the problems? [14:34]
gac410no big deal. just some growing pains. Forgot to install CSS:Minifier on the current active perlbrew.
And didn't notice it.
Adding some checks to tools/build.pl to die if CSS::Minifier or uglifyjs are missing, so I don't do it again :P
[14:35]
jomoweak wifi on the terrace.. ;(
the tools/build.pl generates the new tarbal?
[14:48]
gac410yes.
It builds each extension, including minifiing and compressing css & js. Then packages it all up and builds tarball
[14:50]
build.pl in core/tools is customized, and builds the whole release. build.pl in core is just for extensions.
Installing BuildContrib gets you build.pl in core. tools/build.pl only comes with a git checkout of distro.
[15:02]
jomoyes, i checked them. just kidding about the authors creativity about the descriptive command names ;) :)
cd ../tools;ls
wrong window
[15:04]

gac410gac410 has to go out for a bit ... biab [15:14]
...... (idle for 28mn)
foswiki_irc1Hello, I installed and configured the apache web server and the foswiki software. However, where is now my future homepage, my www.company.com? Where do I start to actually start my website? [15:42]
gac410usually company.com/bin/view or company.com/foswiki/bin/view. Depends upon your apache configuration
How did you configure apache? foswiki:Support.ApacheConfigGenerator
hm no bot? http://foswiki.org/Support/ApacheConfigGenerator
[15:43]
foswiki_irc1I am new to this topic, I might sound unexperienced... [15:46]
gac410no problem. [15:47]
foswiki_irc1My aim is to set up a website with foswiki in the background so that it is easy extensible later. [15:47]
gac410So how did you install foswiki? tarball? debian packages? rpm? [15:48]
foswiki_irc1I installed the Ubuntu apache 2.4 server here on my local computer. I want to set up the whole website locally on my hard drive and than copy the files to the internet once foswiki is running there [15:48]
gac410How did you install foswiki? [15:49]
foswiki_irc1I installed the foswiki by downloading the tgz-file and unpacking it to var/www/html/ [15:49]
gac410okay good.
And how did you configure Apache?
[15:49]
foswiki_irc1I used the configurator on the fosswiki website [15:50]
gac410okay good again :) Did you select "short URLs" when you generated the configuration? [15:50]
foswiki_irc1First yes, but the apache server didn't restart and so I unchecked this [15:51]
gac410okay so without short URLs you will need to include "bin/view" in each url. Have you run your.company/bin/configure and did that all go okay? [15:52]
foswiki_irc1In fact, I started the configure and I managed to get no errors and only one warning with the security (but since it is just on my local hard drive I don't care) amd than I got lost somewhere
This was the point where I got stuck
[15:53]
gac410So if you enter the url company.com/bin/configure it runs okaY/
If so, try company.com/bin/view
[15:54]
foswiki_irc1Yes, I changed the permissions of the whole directory
Ok, for me that is (for now) http://localhost/foswiki/bin/view
It shows a page
[15:54]
gac410Should show the Main/WebHome page by default [15:55]
foswiki_irc1Yes, But where is it? What is it?
How can I change it?
Is this the starting page?
[15:55]
gac410Yes [15:56]
foswiki_irc1ok... :-) [15:56]
gac410You need to register a user, or authenticate as admin using the password you saved in configure.
If you click the "edit" link on the page, it should prompt you to login.
[15:56]
foswiki_irc1Yes, but I have no idea what to type there...
It must be in the foswiki configuration somewhere...
[15:57]
gac410Oh. the login. try userid "admin" and password is what you set when you saved your configuration using confiigure [15:58]
foswiki_irc1ok, I will try this
give me some time :-)
[15:58]
gac410okay. I'll probably have to leave in a bit but there are others here. Sunday though doesn't get a lot of support. [15:59]
foswiki_irc1WOW, it works!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
You helped me a lot! Have a nice sunday!!!
[15:59]
gac410you to. Unless you want to do everything as admin, you'll eventually want to get user registration working, but that means a working email config and that can be ... challenging ;)
if your ubuntu box can already send email then it's pretty easy. Sending from perl can be a challenge.
and with that .. I have to leave. Back in a few hours.
