LorenEveyCongratulations on the release. And,... I prefer the current look for the FOSWiki site; more efficient layout out. I am running "Foswiki version v1.1.999_003, Release Foswiki-1.2.0_Beta_2, Plugin API version 2.3" on several virtual servers. Is there a compelling reason for me to "upgrade" to the release? Thanks. [12:44]
GuilainCthere are several change between beta2 and the 2.0
specially bug fixes, but the best personne to answer you is gac410, who's not here at this time, but should be in, soon.
[12:45]
LorenEveyThank you. I have not checked the development pages. Are the changes/fixes from B2 to 2.0 documented here? Thanks. Great work! [12:48]
GuilainCGuilainC is trying to get form git source control
let me some min (is a test for me :D )
not sure the documentation make separation between beta2, RC3, etc
GuilainC discover with pleasure that the foswiki source code is tagged
GuilainC get something, but he is unable to know if it's the true change list or not
GuilainC publishing

GuilainCousp to big file !!
ousp = oops
LorenEvey, you don't have git install on the source code
hi gac410 !
could you confirm that there is a lot of change between beta2 and 2.0
LorenEvey prefers to be lazy and stay in beta2
[12:57]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum added bubbles to the frontpage [12:58]
jasthere's the full difference: https://github.com/foswiki/distro/compare/fff4206224cd9fec663b00c2312b9b9dfdeef373...master [12:58]
gac410gac410 has to go look [12:58]
jastactually that include a few minor fixes made after 2.0, but the majority are new between beta2 and release [12:59]
gac410cool Thanks Jast!
Between Beta2 and release, there were a lot of utf8 related fixes, RC 2 and beta was a lot less.
[12:59]
GuilainCI don't know that we can do it with github [13:00]
LorenEveyLazy! Holy Smokes, I spent three weeks, 16 hrs a day, getting up to speed with B2 and upgrading several sites going back to TWiki 4 and FW1. Lazy! LOL. I am just so happy that everything is working and other fish need to be fried at the moment. Nonetheless, I will most likely overwrite to 2.0 unless I wait for 2.1. Maybe five years? :) [13:03]
GuilainC:) LorenEvey
just kidding, understand your point of view, but if you've done the work, upgrade to beta2 to 2.0 should be painless
most of things have been already done
hope to not wait 2.1 for 5 years
github seems doesn't like tag diff
https://github.com/foswiki/distro/compare/FoswikiRelease02x00x00...FoswikiRelease01x02x00_Beta2
or I've made something wrong ?
[13:03]
gac410Reverse the compare: https://github.com/foswiki/distro/compare/FoswikiRelease01x02x00_Beta2...FoswikiRelease02x00x00 [13:07]
LorenEveyThank you for looking. I will likely upgrade to the release so that my collaborators don't stumble upon "beta" for the platform we are using. :) [13:08]
GuilainCargh thanks gac410 [13:08]
LorenEveyYes, thank you gac410. Might upgrading from B2 to the release be as simple as exploding the archive into the existing directory structure? [13:11]
gac410yes. I think so. There is a script available ... foswiki_upgrade_check. That can compare and tell you what is changed.
http://foswiki.org/Support/HowDoIUpgradeSafelyACustomizedFoswikiInstallation
It can actually do the upgrade as well, I would not recommend it making the major change 1.1.x -> 2.0.x But 1.2.beta -> 2.0 should be okay.
If nothing else, it can report what would be overlayed.
[13:12]
GuilainCGuilainC discovers foswiki_upgrade_check.... :) [13:14]
gac410I use a modified version of it on foswiki.org
For ex, For a sanity check ... on foswiki.org, I wondered what had changed:
[13:15]
LorenEveyThank you. I will give it a try this weekend and report back. Loren [13:17]
gac410perl foswiki-upgrade-check -v /path-to-live /path-to-live /path-to-Foswiki-2.0.0 | grep -v IGNORE
-v is very noisy
[13:17]
Darn, Colas's version has diverged a bit from what I use on foswiki.org Our -f options mean different things, and -c, clean up stale rcs,v files, is missing. [13:30]
..... (idle for 21mn)
Colasah, on foswiki_upgrade_check, I am in the process of re-writing it. It is not adapted to the modern foswiki [13:51]
gac410There is a version checked into github that I use on foswiki.org
Has a few things I find very useful.
[13:51]
ColasThe main issue is that now you can upgrade your plugins via bin/configure, which can induce too many conflicts, and too many oipprtunities to badly auto-resolve them [13:52]
gac410https://github.com/foswiki/distro/blob/master/core/tools/foswiki-upgrade-check [13:52]
Colasplus, nowadays, foswiki is much, much cleaner, so the need to locally patch an install is nearly non-existent
What I was planning to do is basically just overwrite the install by the new release (except the webhome), only merging the WebPreferences.
and have a convention where you can tell the script to actually try to merge only if it finds a specific string (as comment) in the file
[13:52]
gac410IIRC what I wanted was a simple text diff more to evaluate which version I wanted to keep. And the ability to *remove* files that were in the old distribution and not in the new one.
removing stale templates, javascript, etc. was pretty important on more significant updates.
[13:54]
Colasgac410, good idea. [13:54]
gac410The version in github I've used for every upgrade on f.o from 1.0.10 -> 1.1.9 if I recall correctly [13:55]
Colasalso, it should propagate the distrib chnages: If data/_default/WebChnages is upgraded, you wantthe script to copy the new version in all the existing webs [13:55]
gac410yes. or at least prompt .. do you want to
I never used the graphical diff. always uses ssh and did it remotely, simple diff with "what do you want to do" worked for me :)
Most of the time I just "keep the original"
[13:55]
ColasI was thinking looking for the "magic string" in the files (e.g.: FOSWIKI_LOCALLY_MODIFIED ) [13:57]
gac410never really ran into anything complicated enough to actually need to do a 3-way merge [13:57]
Colasyes, this hapenned to me a lot with TWiki, before the plugin system was fully developed [13:57]
gac410But we don't make many changes on f.o [13:58]
Colasnowadays, interactively merging brings too many risks [13:58]
gac410For 2.0, I bit the bullet and did a full re-install into a new directory, then rsynced Main, Sandbox, ... into the new install. [13:58]
Colasyes, basdically this is what I want the new script to do [13:59]
gac410Also, don't forget that with 2.0, there is the new bulk_copy script which will convert store, change encoding, etc. [13:59]
Colasyup, I am preparing migrating our 30.000 topic wiki at IBM this summer :-) [14:00]
gac410I didn't do that on f.o. We wanted to run 1.1.9 with utf-8 for a while, so used the non-recommended CharsetConverterContrib
Anyway, the options in my version that have diverged from yours:
-r remove any files missing from the new release. (optional)
-x [ask old new merge] Conflict handling - default=ask.
-f force: Treat local change dist same as a conflict to rethink your changes
-c clean up old ,v rcs files
[14:00]
Colasnoted [14:04]
gac410MichaelDaum: what do you think. Time to get an announcement sent out? [14:08]
MichaelDaumgac410, definitely :)
let's craft it in blog.foswiki.org
[14:09]
gac410okay [14:09]
MichaelDaumdid you review the images I've sent you
both off?
[14:09]
gac410Yes. I replied just before you dropped of to go to the kids
hm. hang on I'll look again.
[14:10]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum being playing frontpage today again http://foswiki.org/Home/WebHome [14:10]
gac410FoswikiIsLatest_14 better than the other one.
Though I like the idea of some fireworks and "independence from ASCII' theme :D
BTW. in that graphic. Realy should be spelled Really

MichaelDaumMichaelDaum fixing [14:12]
GuilainCnice new frontpage, bublle & co
foswiki 2.0 independance from USA ;)
[14:12]
gac410gac410 doesn't see bubbles [14:15]
GuilainCgac410, on the green gradient
just a marketing question, do you know how other equivalent wikis (twiki, xwiki, confluence) deal with utf8 ?
[14:15]
gac410Ah. low contrast. I cannot see them [14:16]
GuilainClow contrast ?!
change your screen :D
[14:16]
MichaelDaumwe need to crowdfund new gear for our RM :) [14:17]
GuilainChe's probably right [14:17]
gac410If I look really hard, i see a slightly paler green bubble ... It's a brand spankin new Dell Precision M4800 [14:17]
GuilainCperhaps is not the screen...
... don't want to precise what it could be :D
[14:17]
MichaelDaumcould be your screen settings are pale [14:18]
gac410maybe cataracts, ??? but I have a really tough time with low contrast. It's why I keep harping about our skins.
I don't think it's the screen settings. It's my eyes
[14:18]
MichaelDaumgac410, I'll send you another example for a 2.0 announcement image [14:20]
gac410okay I'll be looking
GuilainC: the translation fail email you send me is the perl issue with the copyright previously reported. Seems to be specific to perl 5.16.3
and the french translation
[14:21]
GuilainCok... I prefer tell it... I don't take care of it ! still is functionnal on my own wiki :D [14:24]
gac410GuilainC: I'm guessing that it's Item13424 that's hitting the mailnotify, but I can't be sure [14:31]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13424 [ Item13424: Malformed UTF-8 character (unexpected end of string) fails for some languages on some perl versions. ] [14:31]
GuilainCok gac410... [14:33]
MichaelDaumtwo new images on its way to gac410 [14:36]
gac410Hm.. I just don't quite get the connections to software. "You can both play with it" ??? ... but either are okay I guess. [14:38]
MichaelDaum"both play" -> collaboration tools [14:39]
gac410Ah... to subtle for me. [14:39]
MichaelDaumthen the other [14:39]
gac410sure [14:39]
MichaelDaumhave you got a text? [14:40]
gac410got a text?? [14:40]
MichaelDaumannouncement blabla ... after this many years of ... [14:41]
gac410Oh. for the announcement ... I was basically going to use the RC announcement with some tweaks.
Let me copy it on the blog and edit a bit.
[14:41]
MichaelDaumk
last release announcement at http://blog.foswiki.org/foswiki-1-1-9-released/
[14:41]
gac410Is there a way to save the RC2 post as a new post for editing, rather than modify the one in place? [14:44]
MichaelDaumcopy & paste [14:48]
gac410Okay [14:48]
MichaelDaum1 year, 6 months, 2 weeks since 1.1.9 [14:51]
gac410Saved draft, but still editing [14:52]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum look
6 years, 7 months, 19 days since ground zero
we can del the translation help chapter
[14:52]
gac410yes working on it [14:56]
MichaelDaumyay [14:56]
gac410Tempted to say "We have adopted "continuous translation" and can accept help at any time, with the email address to contact. [14:56]
MichaelDaumhehe [14:56]
GuilainCgood gac410 [14:57]
LorenEveyIt seems that the system and support webs are the only FOSWiki.org webs having a left bar login and logoff. Only so many hours in the day. :) [14:58]
GuilainCGuilainC thinks about this point, that we can continuously download new lang file every month/week/years from weblate and put into locale dir ? [14:58]
gac410LorenEvey: It's site customizations that have not caught up with the skin changes :(
I fixed a couple. Still needs work.
MichaelDaum: take a look. I'm still reviewing but getting closer
[14:58]
MichaelDaumok ... sec
gac410, we've got a rewrite of the PageCache ... now finally usable
general performance improvements in the store layer
new %SET macro
[15:01]
gac410Let me drop out of edit. go for it! [15:05]
MichaelDaumhow many feature requests have been implemented? [15:06]
gac410How do I close the editor :(
Last count was 48, might be higher. I'll have to review
I found a few when I did the review of the request a few days ago
[15:06]
MichaelDaumdidn't we improve %SOMEVAR{default="..." params="foo"}% as well during 2.0 dev cycle?
oh no that was before
do you want to keep the translation paragraph, gac410? I was under the impression that this was only required before actually doing the final release.
[15:09]
gac410With continuous translation, we don't need to do "string freeze" and launch over the wall to translators [15:11]
MichaelDaumah ok
how about the three last paragraphs as in http://blog.foswiki.org/foswiki-1-1-9-released/ ?
Instalatiol / License / Release Details
[15:11]
gac410That's all in the FoswikiRelease02x00x00 Download posting. That's where the collaborationo should be happening. [15:13]
MichaelDaumtrue
ok I am done with it
[15:13]
gac410I'm going to have to fit the blog post back into the download page. [15:13]
MichaelDaumme adding some tagging and seo [15:14]
gac410okay.
Feature proposals. Counted 59
[15:14]
MichaelDaumhttp://foswiki.org/Development/CompletedFeatureProposals?sortcol=4;table=1;up=1#sorted_table
y
me adding an url param to this page to have a link to it listing all 2.0 features
[15:17]
gac410and darn it all, we've lost client side sorting again. No wonder the server has been sending out apache restarts again.
EditRowPlugin only provides it for pages with a edittable macro, and it doesn't disable the url based sorting so bot's can still sort :P
ReleaseNotes02x00 has a static list ... though it's out of date :(
I did the Development topic cleanup after 2.0 was released. and only then found a bunch of mis-categorized feature proposals.
[15:18]
MichaelDaumhm at http://foswiki.org/Development/CompletedFeatureProposals there is one single feature for 2.0 that is not added to the other 58 ones. see the summary at the bottom of the first table [15:27]
gac410Yeah. I'm guessing the formfield has a space, or some other strangeness. [15:27]
MichaelDaumand it is missing in http://foswiki.org/Development/CompletedFeatureProposals?release=2.0 [15:27]
gac410I looked a bit, and didn't spot why it was mis-counted. I just did the math in my head to get to 59 :D
gac410 wonders if we should dump the other foswiki installers. It's a bit embarrassing. Only the virtual machine image is updated. Nobody to maintain any of the other packages
[15:28]
MichaelDaumhttp://foswiki.org/Development/ConvertToModernPerlVersionStrings [15:29]
jastprobably, yes [15:29]
gac410Ah... Doh ... putting a list into a field
Let me try another email to Sven ... If he can't maintain the packages, maybe he'd be willing to make his packaging software available.
The versions in git repo are not usable.
[15:30]
MichaelDaum"New" button missing to create a new page [15:35]
gac410where? [15:35]
MichaelDaumeverywhere
http://foswiki.org/Development/WebHome
I can't create a new page.
lol :(
[15:36]
gac410There never was one was there? [15:36]
MichaelDaumcustomization on F.O. [15:36]
GuilainCgac410, for other installer, I suggest to go toward an version based topic rather than an "type" with version
in the manner I've rewrite here http://foswiki.org/Sandbox/OtherFoswikiInstallersRewrite
[15:36]
gac410GuilainC: Well for now, the answer will be no other installers available. :( [15:37]
GuilainCI never get your point of view
:)
if my rewrite is unusefull tell me :)
except vm
do you upgrade the vm ?!
[15:37]
gac410Yes
14.04 LTS w/ Foswiki 2.0
GuilainC: even the 1.1.9 installers are in bad shape. Packaging errors, incompatible with latest apache, etc.
[15:37]
GuilainCyes but for me 1.1.9 is not a problem
is just unmaintain
unmaintained
[15:38]
gac410MichaelDaum: We also had FamFamFam skin installed. It has a new page button, but is broken by SubscribePlugin, so I dropped it from the skin [15:39]
GuilainC(good to know for the VM... I hope to try soon) [15:39]
MichaelDaumgac410, never was sure why the f* FamFamFam needs a skin overlay [15:40]
gac410no idea. That was a Sven implementation.
I like the icon based buttons at the top, but subscribe is totally broken.
[15:41]
MichaelDaumwhat about http://foswiki.org/Extensions/CpanContrib do we need to release it now that MoveCPANLibToSeparateContrib is MergedToCore [15:42]
gac410yeah. probably :( I was struggling with that one a bit. Needs to have an easier way to populate the modules. "cpanm -L " works pretty good
But I could not get it to not build xs versions for some modules.
[15:43]
MichaelDaumcpanm is always preferable to CpanContrib [15:44]
gac410agreed. What I mean is I use cpanm to build the CpanContrib lib directory.
But not all dependencies can be built. A couple are XS only. The HTML stuff for Wysiwyg and compareRevisions that's a big issue.
CDot looked at it one time. The XS only crept in for later versions, and pretty much prevents us from distributing that module.
BTW, The FamFamFam / Subscribe conflict is probably an Urgent bug for 2.0.1
gac410 goes to open a task
[15:44]
MichaelDaum312 bug fixes, and 157 enhancements relative to 1.1.9 ... any url for people to look that up? [15:47]
gac410Item13450: already there [15:47]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13450 [ Item13450: SubscribePlugin with famfamfam skin breaks styling when button switches state. ] [15:47]
gac410Though now it breaks styling completely not just switching state [15:48]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum tries TasksByRelease [15:48]
gac410MichaelDaum: no, There were a lot of manual digging involved IIRC
TasksByRelease helps
[15:48]
GuilainCGuilainC has rewrite/refresh content of http://foswiki.org/Sandbox/OtherFoswikiInstallersRewrite [15:49]
MichaelDaumguys, http://trunk.foswiki.org/Main/WebHome is missing an obvious way to create a new page :(
_this_ is a release blocker even for 2.0
[15:49]
gac410huh??? Left sidebar Toolbox "Create new topic" [15:50]
GuilainCoh yes MichaelDaum, something is missing
on f.o
at least
[15:51]
MichaelDaumgac410, oh ... "found it" [15:51]
gac410Indeed missing on f.o. due to the change from the fatwilly theme [15:51]
GuilainCah... [15:52]
gac410GuilainC: Rewrite looks good. "Make it so!" [15:52]
GuilainCI let you... [15:52]
gac410gac410 needs to step away for a bit., ... [15:52]
GuilainCbe careful, the old 1.1.9 section has move in the an ArchiveOtherInstall topic
GuilainC take a look about the download stats... (on sourceforge) is not so bad !
[15:52]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum removing WaintingFors from closed tasks released in 2.0 ... http://foswiki.org/Tasks/TasksByRelease?release=2.0.0&checkins=All [15:55]
jmk0apparently there's an issue with the release download "unsafe redirect" if you try to download from www.foswiki.org instead of foswiki.org [15:56]
GuilainCGuilainC asks to forget what i write just before... [15:56]
MichaelDaumgac410, I am counting 515 task items for 2.0.0 at http://foswiki.org/Tasks/TasksByRelease?release=2.0.0;checkins=All
thats more than stated in "312 bug fixes, and 157 enhancements relative to 1.1.9"
may I change the blog posting accordingly
[16:01]
gac410MichaelDaum: One think I changed when closing tasks, is the "ReleasedIn" n/a became major.
n/a is stuff that was not for the release notes. (ie broken & fixed in 2,0 prior to release).
[16:03]
MichaelDaumhttp://blog.foswiki.org/?p=689&preview=true [16:04]
gac410I wasn't really very careful trying to preserve that
Oh... do you really want to link to TasksByRelease. That's going to kill the server
Sometimes it gives me a 500 timeout as it is.
[16:04]
MichaelDaumerm, yes we need to give people a way to look up the goodies in 2.0 [16:05]
jastmake a static copy of the result? [16:05]
gac410The "documented list" is in the release notes [16:05]
jastright :)
maybe deploying Solr on f.o is an option for later. lots of work porting all the search queries, though...
[16:05]
gac410Tasks marked 2.0.0 include ALL tasks even those that were never a bug in 1.1.9 [16:06]
MichaelDaumrendering the TasksByRelease takes a whopping 18-20secs [16:06]
gac410Again, It's a huge overstatement of differences between 1.1.9 and 2.0.0 [16:07]
MichaelDaumsome bugs have been reported pre 1.1.9 but fixed in 2.0.0
so both releases had the same bug
tough to state nr bugs relative to 1.1.9 now
[16:07]
gac410http://foswiki.org/System/ReleaseNotes02x00#Fixes [16:08]
MichaelDaumah thats better
how did you compile this list, gac410 ?
[16:08]
gac410That's the purpose of the TargetRelease. n/a means "don't document" minor vs major But that got all messed up with rename from minor to major [16:09]
MichaelDaumand why are those links flagged external [16:09]
gac410Because that is a shipped topic, and it will be external for anyone who downloads. The links are explicit http:// links
So that they work in the .html versions of the release notes.
[16:10]
MichaelDaum... and ExternalLinkPlugin does not detect a http:// is pointing to the same server? Bug. [16:10]
gac410can't depend upon InterWikiPlugin [16:10]
MichaelDaumanyway
I think the blog posting is ready
hm...maybe a different title for it?
Foswiki 2.0 out in the wild.
[16:12]
gac410What I do for the release notes is use http://foswiki.org/Tasks/ReleaseNotesTml which only shows "Waiting for release" tasks and generally needs tweaking [16:13]
MichaelDaumGrab your copy of Foswiki 2.0 now. Only some left. [16:13]
gac410Then, take that TML list, Fix the grammar of the notes, and generally make it usable in the release notes
And finally, as the RC's come along, often have to manually add / edit tasks.
It's a painful process
[16:14]
MichaelDaumcan we remove the broadcast message from f.o? [16:15]
gac410Tasks with summaries like "Something broke..." "I f'd up blah" are not helplful
MichaelDaum: The damn cache was set to 17 days. So visitors with cached javascript will have issues until July 20th.
[16:15]
MichaelDaumyea BRH (Bug Report from Hell)
most clear the cache when they close their browser ... dont they?
[16:15]
gac410gac410 screwed up. Never remembers to update foswiki.org apache config
no
mod_expires sets the cache timer to "today + 17 days"
[16:16]
MichaelDaumthats long
In corporate envs I set it to +8 hours so people get the updates next morning when they come to work.
given they sleep at least 8 hours per day
[16:16]
gac410Currently it's commented out. Our server gets so hammered, we cranked out the timer to try to keep the load down.
I should at least set it back to 8 hours
[16:18]
MichaelDaumwe now can use page caching for those pages
gonna add that for the front
[16:19]
gac410gac410 didn't want to get into configuing that just yet.
Changin to    ExpiresDefault "access plus 8 hours"
Okay. mod_expires is enabled again, and only 8 hours
[16:19]
MichaelDaumconnection timeout for ssh'ing to foswiki.org [16:22]
gac410send you a pm
be careful if you are installing extensions. 2.0 urgent bug. configure will replace existing ext. configuration with the config.spec values
[16:22]
MichaelDaumfrontpage is page-cached now [16:26]
gac410edited LSC directly? :( [16:27]
MichaelDaumnaw
configure
[16:27]
gac410Ah. PageCache. I think we are missing dependencies .. I struggled mightily to get it working on my new laptop
I could not figure out what packages to install. I forgot to mention that.
Should have opened a blocker.
[16:27]
MichaelDaumsqlite is used as a backend ... just works [16:28]
gac410Still don't know what I actually installed. I was missing all sorts of cpan and sqllite, [16:28]
MichaelDaumnow we can page-cache specific topics addign * Set CACHEABLE = on [16:28]
gac410dbi dbd, none of it was installed by default
Didn't just work for me, and nothing in the SystemRequirements
Ubuntu 15.10
[16:28]
MichaelDaumlet's see how TasksByRelease behaves when cached [16:29]
gac410Actually finally got it working with perlbrew, but never got it to work with the system packages.
We need the packages listed in Foswiki:System/SystemRequirements including the apt-get for debian, and cpanm instructions. Blocker for 2.0.1 IMO
[16:30]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/System/SystemRequirements [ SystemRequirements ] [16:31]
MichaelDaumhttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/TasksByRelease?release=2.0.0&checkins=All ... first hit 18s, second 318ms ... [16:32]
gac410Cool
Need to disable table sorting :(
Still that is listing a lot of tasks that don't really need to be documented.
[16:32]
MichaelDaumhm I'd rather like to cache all of the docu. this is static content anymway
by editing http://foswiki.org/System/WebPreferences ... ?
[16:36]
gac410Sure [16:36]
MichaelDaumthats' giving the server more resources for other pages [16:37]
gac410y System web is almost *never* changed. Except for when your RM makes a boneheaded move, like forgetting to change the title in the ReleaseNotes topic [16:37]
MichaelDaumokay I disabled the page cache globally in Main.SitePreferences so that we can enable CACHEABLE on a per topic base
thats more effective for this kind of site
[16:42]
gac410Hm How about setting CACHEABLE in the WikiGuest topic? so that guests cache everything?
Or is that too much
[16:42]
MichaelDaumworth a try ... maybe later
I disabled the broadcast message on the frontpage
[16:44]
gac410okay. too bad there wasn't a way to determine if something is locally cached > n hours and selectively warn. [16:45]
MichaelDaum^warn^warm [16:45]
gac410Actually might be nice to keep the warning about cache refresh at least until the annoucement is out. [16:46]
MichaelDaumyea well jquery css and js get a ?version param appended to the assets...which should get you a new thingy whenever you update these
hm t.f.o has got "This page was cached on 08 Jul 2015 - 15:49. Get a fresh version here. at the bottom.
[16:46]
gac410Back to blog. Is that ready to go live. I think i'm looking at the wrong version. :( [16:48]
GuilainCfor info, gac410, I encapsulated broadcast message into an twisty with the good icon and the option remember="on". By this way, the user, after see it, "close" the message (in fact close the twisty) and is not perturbed by it [16:48]
gac410yes. isn't that correct?
GuilainC: Good idea
[16:48]
MichaelDaumhttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/WebHome ... and the like have a sublte page cache hint at the bottom
gac410, ready when you are to publish the blog posting?
[16:49]
gac410go for it. And I'll c/p it into an email [16:52]
MichaelDaumcurrently locked by you? [16:53]
gac410MichaelDaum: Actually for core devs, might make sense to set CACHEABLE = off in dev topic and set FINAL so that we don't trip over stale stuff.
I think I backed out. Completely lost in WP.
[16:54]
MichaelDaumI'll keep caching enabled for me [16:55]
gac410We should trash our Blog web. Hopelessly out of date [16:55]
MichaelDaumyea
announcement published ... now for the social networks
[16:56]
gac410okay. I just c/p into an email. Will send it to myself first to check links, etc.
MichaelDaum: Might want to make the Download web cachable. There is a search in Release task
Though maybe not. finds open urgent tasks
MichaelDaum: Sent you the draft ... take a look and I'll send it to Foswik-annoucne and Foswiki-discuss
Just changed the top link to point to the download topicc.
[16:57]
MichaelDaumdeal. [17:05]
shall I contact some PR endpoints [17:12]
gac410Sure. Did the email look okay to go?
I am about to also send a thank-you to the translators, and encourage them to keep going :)
[17:13]
MichaelDaumyes the email is just fine
MichaelDaum updated wikimatrix
[17:14]
gac410okay [17:14]

gac410email sent [17:16]
MichaelDaum: re wikimatrix code repository is now github [17:26]
MichaelDaumay [17:27]
jomoMichaelDaum: Why the Tasks web uses another favicon.ico as the other webs on the F.O?
Also, (imho) the F.O. should use different icon as is included into the downloadable Foswiki - or the downloadable FW shoudl contain other as F.O. (reason: F.O is unique place - the downloaded foswiki isn't).
tasks web: http://foswiki.org/pub/Tasks/WebPreferences/Tasks_favicon.ico other: pub/System/ProjectLogos/favicon.ico
[17:30]
MichaelDaumjomo, removed it
Tasks now uses the same ico
[17:32]
jomo:) [17:32]
gac410gac410 created an alternate favico ... miniaturized "swirl" icon. and someone reverted it :P [17:34]
jmk0they just don't appreciate fine art ;-) [17:35]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum added a screenshot of our new frontpage to wikimatrix [17:39]
gac410Hm But downloaders don't get that look....
No rest for the weary. ... next task. is plugin compatibility with 2.0. New task opened today . Ldap is doing double encoding
Screenshot is fine ... as it states it's the website homepage. Never mind...

gac410gac410 has been struggling to figure out why the extension installer overlays existing settings. Getting absolutely nowhere. [17:43]
jmk0fwiw my manager is waiting for that to get fixed before upgrading :) [17:45]
gac410It will be a while I suspect
I've spent a few hours on it. maybe CDot can figure it out, but he appears to be taking a well needed / deserved break.
[17:45]
jomowhat task? [17:46]

FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13513 [ Item13513: Configure extension installer overlays existing configurations when upgrading an extension. ] [17:46]
jomojust found it :) [17:47]
gac410It's not really *that* urgent. If you do the install from web UI, then you see the changes and have a chance to not save them.
It applies the Config.spec defaults on top of existing extension settings, just for the extension being installed.
That one would not stop me from upgrading.
[17:47]
MichaelDaumokay contacted a dozen pr channels. let's see what happens. [17:52]
.... (idle for 17mn)
IE11 is fine on the homepage [18:09]
gac410Just flipped 2,0 to be the default dowload on sourceforge
I didn't enable a default for Android. I doubt anyone has tested it on android
and .tgz for linux, solaris, bsd and others
[18:19]
MichaelDaumgawd we've done it [18:21]
gac410Already 96 downloads of the tgz this week, without it being the default.
I think people were frustrated with the glacial progress on trunk.
I'll leave master for bugfix for now,. If we start checking in features for 2.1, I'll branch 2.0 over to a patch branch.
[18:21]
MichaelDaum... something to discuss on the next release meeting [18:23]
gac410I'd like us to better hold the line on features added to patch releases. lets keep the patches as stable as possible. Bugfix only.
gac410 has been very guilty of slipping features into patch releases.
[18:24]
MichaelDaum+1
back soon
[18:24]
gac410Y. Next release meeting agenda. Post release wrapup, action plan for extensions. We **really** need to fix compatibility And strategy for 2.0.1 & 2.1.0 ,
reprioritize 2.1 features, and start a bug review for patch
And address who wants to take over as RM ... gac410 has paid his dues. :P
[18:27]
fsfsgac410: don't forget to ping me when we need separate trunk and Release02x00 autobuilds. And thumbs up for the release - it looked like a lot of focussed work! [18:28]
gac410fsfs dont' worry, you'll know. I think you can probably stop autobuilds for 1.1.10 I really doubt we'll release anything there now.
gac410 is resisting the urge to at least check in patches for perl 5.22 and CGI changes.
Time to leave it behinnd.
[18:29]
fsfsok, I'll comment out the cronjob, not much going on there anyways... [18:30]
gac410GuilainC: Do you have that twisty code somewhere for the broadcast message [18:30]

FranzJosefGiglergetting oopsredirectdenied message when clicking the download button on the newly designed http://www.foswiki.org page, not nice for potential new users [21:15]
jmk0yeah I pointed that out earlier today :) [21:17]
jastI don't get that
ohh
I do when I visit www.foswiki.org; I normally visit foswiki.org
{PermittedRedirectHostUrls} is probably incomplete... though arguably the better fix is to have www.foswiki.org redirect to foswiki.org
[21:28]
jmk0right [21:29]
jastI don't have server access, though, so I can't do anything about it :) [21:29]
jmk0incidentally, that animated background is pretty bad for anyone who has to do browsing through a remote desktop :-/ [21:30]
jastthe last couple of times I tried, the animation stopped after a short while
oh, it just gets slower and slower
until it's no longer visibly moving

***GithubBot has left [21:36]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13515 [ Item13515: Release updated CpanContrib for Foswiki 2.0 ] [21:36]
gac410I have no idea why users ever get redirected to the www location.
I think it's firefox being "helpful" at times. Nothiing in f.o should be using www. as a web prefix
Once in a while I get the same issue. I carefully type the url without the www, and it magically comes back. :P
[21:37]
jmk0www.foswiki.org resolves to that and is responding, people are in the habit of starting everything with www. [21:39]
gac410Okay I added it to the permitted redirect hosts, but still, even without typing it, sometimes firefox tries to be helpful. Really annoying. as changing host also resets the session for login. [21:41]
jmk0maybe the thing to do would be to have the web server immediately redirect www.foswiki.org to foswiki.org... i've seen a number of web sites do that [21:43]
gac410gac410 really dislikes animations ... at least it doesn't play sounds. And the contrast is low enough I can't see them :P [21:45]
jmk0:) [21:46]
jastfirefox only helpfully alters the hostname if the original doesn't resolve
and/or fails to respond, maybe, not sure
[21:48]
gac410jast, what would you do for a redirect. remove the server alias on foswiki.org, set up a new vhost www.foswiki.org and have it unconditionally redirect? [21:49]
jastthat's one option, another is using mod_rewrite
example:
[21:49]
gac410we have mod_rewrite enabled. [21:49]
jast(this is for a domain of mine)
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.
RewriteRule (.*) http://jk.gs/$1 [R=permanent,L]
[21:50]
gac410hm. I'll try it. see if I can knock f.o down :P [21:50]
jastsounds good :P [21:51]
gac410okay, works. The one downside of this is that if a POST gets sent to www. the rewrite will change it to a GET and break things. [21:53]
jastokay, but nothing should POST to www. in the first place... AFAIK [21:53]
gac410hopefully ... unless a temp glitch makes firefox become "helpful" again. [21:53]
jastI don't think it autofixes links and form submits
only things manually entered into the URL bar
but I haven't tested this specifically
[21:54]
gac410hm It seems to be rewriting http://www.foswiki.org/ into http://foswiki.org// note double trailing slash [21:55]
FoswikiBot[ Foswiki - The enterprise collaboration platform ] [21:55]
jastoh, yeah, that would be because no RewriteBase is set
in the RewriteRule just turn /$1 into $1
[21:56]
gac410I changed the rewrite rule to be http://foswiki.org$1 still makes it /$1 [21:56]
jastthe old redirect is probably cached in your browser
or you didn't reload apache ;)
[21:56]
gac410yeah tried a different url and it works. [21:57]
jastredirect caching is really annoying when you're tweaking redirect rules [21:57]
gac410:P I didn't realize that CpanContrib is part of the "distro" repository It probably ought to be it's own animal.
but splitting repos is a pain.
[22:00]

jmk0this error message mean anything to anyone? new(): failed: Invalid data structure returned from thaw() at /var/www/Foswiki-1.1.9/lib/Foswiki/LoginManager.pm line 392. [22:24]
gac410ugh. sort of.
If you updated perl with new versions of freeze/thaw you can have real strangeness like that.
When I've run into it, it was a royal pain to fix, and I have no idea how I did it.
[22:24]
jmk0unless someone logged into my VM and upgraded it in secre, i'm pretty sure nothing's changed on that end of things :) [22:25]
gac410Is it repeatable? when I've hit it, my fw site has been completely defeated by it. [22:26]
jmk0Foswiki::LoginManager::Session->errstr() ... [22:26]
GuilainCgac410, I've published my twisty tips for broadcast message on my homepage : http://foswiki.org/Main/GuilainCabannes [22:26]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::LoginManager::Session [22:26]
gac410Thanks GuilainC [22:26]
jmk0yeah it's repeatable. it started when I tried getting Data::Dumper to be less damn verbose (using Sortkeys to filter), but even after I commented that code out it continues [22:27]
gac410fastcgi? Maybe you somehow set a global setting for Dumper [22:28]
jmk0I probably did, but why wouldn't it go away after I commented out that setting and reloaded apache?
I probably should have put the $Data::Dumper::Sortkeys = ... in an eval block, but ...
[22:28]
gac410I think freeze/thaw is used for creating the Session keys [22:29]
jmk0yeah [22:29]
gac410tmp/cgisess_* files, and other tmp session storage [22:29]
jmk0seems likely
aha
there's a ton of stuff there. one cgises file, a bunch of directed graph plugin and a bunch of STDERR files, many of which are empty.. Any reason I shouldn't just do an rm * in there?
the cgisess file looks wonky
$D = {};;$D
is the full contents
i removed the cgises file and it's not complaining about that particular issue any longer at least :) thanks
the lack of strong typing makes it easier to mess up and harder to figure out why :)
[22:29]

just is normal that a variable can be set up inside a verbatim bloc
i mean
<verbatim> ...* Set MYVARIABLE=toto </verbatim>
and then %MYVARIABLE% could be used and change into toto
[22:54]
gac410yes preferences are evaluated inside verbatim blocks [23:00]
GuilainCok
I don't remember of that
