Demosthenexi know i've asked before, but with the new 2.0 out i thought i should ask again. does foswiki support "static" sites, where editing controls are not shown to regular users? basicaly just using foswiki to maintain a simple website [17:24]

gac410Demosthenex: I believe that you can do that with the PublishContrib - it can publish topics / webs into static HTML if I recall. I've never used it.
Also with CSS it's possible to hide some/most edit controls if the user doesn't have edit auth. Though that might be a bit inconsistent depending on plugins, skins, etc.
2.0 doesn't do anything special that couldn't be done with 1,x in this regard.

Demosthenexi neutered it once before via css and such... i just was hoping there was a more official mechanism now
essentially i have a static site that i like maintaining with foswiki, but there's no users and it's just a few pages

gac410PublishContrib probably comes the closest. The focus is being a wiki, for collaboration. so not much interest in a core static site functionality [19:43]
Demosthenexyeah ;] [19:43]
gac410Of course new developers with fresh ideas are welcome! [19:43]
Demosthenexthats what happens when a wiki fan is given a site to maintain ;] [19:43]
that or i have a real allergy to html [19:50]
