MichaelDaumI wonder why SHORTDESCRIPTION is not part of the PackageForm, CDot;) [12:21]
CDotMichaelDaum: because the package form is in the .txt, but SHORTDESCRIPTION is in the code, IIRC. [12:25]
MichaelDaumnaw, the description should be stored in a formfield.
using %META...value="%$SHORTDESCRIPTION%"}%
at best, extensions set a preference variable, but not all do.
[12:26]
gac410MichaelDaum: yes, SHORTDESCRIPTION originates in the .pm module. And it's really needed or the InstalledPlugins page can't describe what's installed. [12:27]
MichaelDaumthere should be a formfield in PackageForm holding this info
as well
similar to RELEASE, VERSION etc
they too are in perl and then propagated into the PackageForm during build
not so SHORTDESC
unfortunately
[12:28]
gac410Okay, though it needs to be the %$SHORTDESCRIPTION% frorm [12:29]
MichaelDaumso on my F.O. homepage I still need to parse the topic txt using FilterPlugin in order to get a plugin's description :(
see what I mean?
[12:29]
gac410Ah yeah. makes sense. Unfortunately it's duplicated data. InstalledPlugins uses the modules "our $SHORT..." global.
+
[12:30]
MichaelDaumalmost the most important bit of information about an extension - its description - and it is not stored in a structured way. [12:31]
gac410Remodeling the aircraft in flight. Let's change out that left engine now... [12:31]
MichaelDaumas part of the PLUGININFO macro (or what was it called) ... this one however only returns info for _isntalled_ plugins [12:31]
gac410Right. It could be confusing though with data coming from multiple places. But I suppose that's true on VERSION and RELEASE too. [12:32]
MichaelDaumI same problem in http://foswiki.org/Extensions/JsonReport?raw=all
it uses %SEARCH's pattern() feature to grab out the SHORTDESC
[12:32]
gac410yup [12:33]
MichaelDaumunnecessarily expensive
even worse now: (1) the perl constant, (2) %$SHORTDESCRIPTION% and (3) %SHORTDESCRIPTION%
with (3) being an optional nice-to-have part of an extensions docu topic ...

JoeRiveraLinux is not my friend lol. :(
anyone got a sec to look at a foswiki install problem when running /bin/config
[18:06]
gac410whats up JoeRivera
What release of Foswiki?
[18:08]
JoeRiveraafter fixing many .pm script errors. following the centos install . i realized i was on foswiki 1.0 lol./kill self. now im on 2.0 and its kicking my butt getting /bin/config working. I have my lib set up correctly but had to move many of the .pm from their subdirectorys to the foswiki/lib to get it moving. but now im stuck at. ill send text
Undefined subroutine &Foswiki::Response called at /var/www/html/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Engine.pm line 115. at /var/www/html/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Engine.pm line 115. [18:09]
gac410You should not have to move any modules at all. Something is very wrong with your configuration. [18:10]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Response http://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Engine http://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Engine::CGI [18:11]
gac410I've never encountered anyone who moved modules. [18:11]
JoeRiverayou mean in my httpd.conf file?
when i did not include one. httpd refused to spin up
[18:11]
gac410So for Foswiki 2.0. First, did you review Foswiki:System.SystemRequirements and install all the dependencies. [18:12]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/System.SystemRequirements [ SystemRequirements ] [18:12]
gac410For Apache configuration, take a look at Foswiki:Support.ApacheConfigGenerator.
Come on bot ... wake up..
[18:12]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Support.ApacheConfigGenerator. [ ApacheConfigGenerator ] [18:13]
gac410You should not move any moodules at all in foswiki/lib. I don't understand why that would ever be needed. [18:14]
JoeRiverawell that would be a no. I did not see that whole list. yuming it up now.
it was part of the wget i downloaded
for 2.0.1
[18:14]
gac410Yes ... It is also copied into the Installation guide iirc
If you've been moving .pm modules around between directories, I'd recommend deleting and re-extracting the tarfile.
[18:15]
JoeRiveraperl-Perl-Version was not found by yum
No package Perl-Version available. * Maybe you meant: perl-version
[18:21]
gac410what version of perl itself is installed?
perl -v
[18:21]
JoeRiveraThis is perl 5, version 16, subversion 3 (v5.16.3) built for x86_64-linux-thread-multi (with 28 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)
says needs v 7?
0.77
[18:22]
gac410Ah... you won't need the version module. Only needed on perl 5.8.8 and 5.10.0
so just ignore that dependency. you are all set.
[18:22]
JoeRiverathe 2 options at the bottom i dont need?
yum did not find them
[18:23]
gac410what 2 options?
URI?
[18:23]
JoeRiveraLocale::Maketext::Lexicon perl-Locale-Maketext-Lexicon Optional, needed for internationalization Locale::Msgfmt perl-Locale-Msgfmt Optional, needed for internationalization [18:24]
gac410If you are enabling other languages, then they will help, otherwise if mainly English system, you don't need them [18:25]
JoeRiveraok i just un tared the directory foswiki again 2.0.1
inside foswiki there is a directory called lib
[18:29]
gac410right. That stays where it is.
right along side of data, bin, locale, ...
[18:30]
JoeRiveralet me change the setup files and try again to run foswiki/bin/configure
yea
[18:30]
gac410Don't start with configure!!!! [18:31]
JoeRiveradont? [18:31]
gac410You MUST visit your expected view url, then follow link to configure. [18:31]
JoeRiveraah i tired the links it had on the index.html and they did not work.
the first time
[18:31]
gac410Did you configure apache for "short URLs"
ie is your URL going to be http://yoursite.com/Main/WebHome or http://yoursite.com/foswiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome
[18:32]
FoswikiBot[ yoursite.com ] [18:32]
JoeRiveraright now i was trying to just access it via the ip address. ive not setup short URL not sure how to yet. and not set dns up to redirect to this [18:33]
gac410With Foswiki 2.0, to configure, you visit what you want to be your "typical URL". Even with IP addresses it works that way.
When you visit your "....../Main/WebHome" (however you intend the URL to look like) "Bootstrap" sniffs out the desired URL, so when you click the link to configure, it's correctly configured.
If you use the Foswiki:Support.ApacheConfigGenerator it asks you questions about things like short URLs and will configure apache appropriately.
[18:33]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Support.ApacheConfigGenerator [ ApacheConfigGenerator ] [18:35]
JoeRiverai did that one
although I had to add lines to it to make it work.
[18:35]
gac410hm what did you have to add? [18:36]
JoeRiveraErrorLog "logs/error_log" Listen 10.15.1.26:80 Include conf.modules.d/*.conf ServerName localhost User apache Group apache
and the document root
[18:37]
gac410Ah. You are trying to use the config as the full apache configuration. It's supposed to be used as an Include from your system httpd.conf [18:38]
JoeRiveraah thought it was to replace teh httpd.conf [18:39]
gac410So in your system provided httpd.conf at the bottom, Include whatever-you-called-the-foswiki-apache-config
You are probably missing a bunch of apache specific stuff if you just replaced httpd.conf. I'd suggest changing that.
[18:39]
JoeRiverai backed up the orginal httpd file incase i fub bar soemthing lol. i can swap names. So is foswiki looking for the foswiki.conf file?
i was trying to do this not as a vhost. this centos only job in life is going to be the wiki
[18:40]
gac410no. That's just used by apache. You can call it anything you want.
Right. That's fine. If you left the hostname blank on the generator, it won't build the vhost statement
[18:41]
JoeRiverai did
leave it blank
[18:42]
gac410Right. So just include it, like the instructions said. "Add a line to httpd.conf so Apache loads the new configuration file (e.g. Include conf/foswiki.conf) " [18:42]
JoeRiveraso put the orignial httpd.conf file back and add something to it? [18:42]
gac410Yes [18:42]
JoeRiveraok just a min. thank god i backed up this time lol this is my 4th reimage lol
ah it already had a
IncludeOptional conf.d/*.conf
so if i put the foswiki in the conf.d dir it should load it
[18:43]
gac410I don't know centos. It might have a directory for local config stuff.
Usually you want your application config to come after all the server related config. Hey Lavr .... are you around? You use Centos, right?
But yes... based upon the ApacheCfgGen notes, if you put foswiki.conf in Include, it will get automatically included.
On debian / ubuntu, you put "sites" / application specific configs into the "sites-available" directory, and then link them into sites-active ... or something like that. I have no idea how Centos does it :(
[18:47]
JoeRiverai comented out the lined i added and reanmed it back to foswiki.conf and put it n the conf.d directory. Now the part i was having a problem with lol . without the Docroot command it loads the var/www/html/index.html instead of the var/www/html/foswiki/index.html [18:52]
gac410Assuming you set "URL Path: /foswiki" then you should browse to 1.2.3.4/foswiki
If you set the URL Path in ApacheConfigGenerator to '/' for shortest URLs, then you have to either adjust docroot, or just move everytin in the html/foswiki directory up a level into html.
So for ex. in /var/www/html run tar -zx --strip-components 1 -f Foswiki-2.0.1.tgz
That will extract right into html without the Foswiki-2.0.1 directory.
sorry... --strip-components=1 needs the equal sign.
But all this comes back to what you entered into ApacheConfigGenerator for URL Path:
And File System Paths:
[18:53]
JoeRiveraok i wiped the foswiki.conf and generated a new one incase i moded something and forgot to coment out.
Foswiki detected an internal error - please check your Foswiki logs and webserver logs for more information. Can't locate Localepath in @INC (@INC contains: path path path path path path path . path)
when i goto 10.15.1.26/foswiki
left most defualts
[18:58]
gac410Okay. missing a dependency. Check the apache error log ... the path path path is sanitized so people can't snoop your server file system [18:59]
JoeRiveraonly updated the path to /var/www/html/foswiki
ok
\tFoswiki::Engine::CGI::run('Foswiki::Engine::CGI=HASH(0x2905f60)') called at /var/www/html/foswiki/bin/view line 29.
[18:59]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Engine::CGI [19:01]
gac410You should see the message "Can't locate Locale .... But with real paths, not the "path path" sanitization. [19:02]
JoeRiveramaybe im looking at the wrong log
this is the httpd error log
[19:02]
gac410or cd to your install root and try issuing tools/dependencies
That's the right log.
that \tFoswiki::Engine ... is part of the traceback for the failure. Should be a lot more to it, look lines before/after
What I do to see what's happening. "tail -f /var/log/httpd/error.log" in one window, and then hit the URL again.
[19:03]
JoeRiveraoh wow i cleared the log. [19:06]
gac410That way you can see what came out first. I usually tail -f then hit enter a few times to get some blank space. [19:06]
JoeRiveraand it about filled ita gain [19:06]
gac410again. the utility tools/dependencies will give you a text report on any missing dependencies. [19:07]
JoeRiverathat i can find. and is see just need to figure out how to run it [19:08]
gac410from shelll cd var/www/httpd/foswiki then tools/dependencies.
or if that won't work. issue "perl tools/dependencies"
[19:08]
JoeRiveradone [19:09]
gac410Anything missing?
There are always a few, but optional ones.
[19:09]
JoeRiveratrying to read it lol. i cant remember that place i can dump this text so you can see it better [19:10]
gac410Lets go back to your crash ... can you put the relevant lines into http://pastebin.com/ ... set a short lifetime [19:12]
JoeRiverahttp://pastebin.com/7JR1T8eR [19:13]
gac410Okay missing dependency Can't locate Locale/Maketext.pm in @INC
Locale::Maketext
[19:13]
JoeRiveraso cpan install Locale::Maketext [19:14]
gac410Looks like that might be an error in our SystemRequirements. [19:14]
JoeRivera? [19:14]
gac410Well you could use yum?
try to install perl-Locale-Maketext
[19:15]
jmk0hmm, unknown targets in /var/www/foswiki/core/lib/Foswiki/Contrib/Build.pm yield cryptic errors, i.e. Failed to load target package: No such file or directory at /var/www/foswiki/core/lib/Foswiki/Contrib/Build.pm line 1158.... should I add a task? [19:15]
gac410jmk0: need some context.
What target are you trying to use? What was the commandline ?
[19:16]
jmk0was trying to package up an extension, so used "package" when i should have done "release"
i.e. build.pl release
[19:16]
JoeRiverathank you. it came up [19:17]
gac410JoeRivera: great.
So click the link from the bootstrap banner at the top of the page, to get to configure.
Check any errors / warnings. and save the config.
jmk0: The targets are dynamic. The code tries to load whatever target you requested.
[19:17]
jmk0understood, but the error message could be better
clearer
instead of saying "failed to load target", maybe say "requested target "package" is not valid"... even better if you could list valid targets if possible
[19:19]
gac410the developer tools don't get as much love, It would be a bit of development. we don't validate the target. just let Perl report the error. Sure open a task if you want. [19:21]
jmk0sounds like it would be a waste of time [19:21]
gac410If you have some time to patch it that would even be better :D
We're kinda up to our eyeballs with 2.0.2 work, and now MichaelkDaum wants us to back-port some patches to 1.1
It would probably be one of those fixes that sits there until someone is actually doing other work in the code. Just being realistic.
Always good to get bug reports documented. But the lower priority ones do rather languish at times.
[19:21]
JoeRiverayou know the part in the CentOs walkthru where it says to put the lines in red in. well i never find it and always have to add the whole thing
Add the red lines of code in the file foswiki.conf in the following tag: <!FilesMatch "^(configure)$"> SetHandler cgi-script Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Require user AdminConfigure Satisfy All </FilesMatch>
oh and have to take that that nasty !
take out
is 2.0.2 going to be so much different then 2.0.1
[19:29]
gac410No, 2.0.2 is all bugfix.
Yikes... <!FilesMatch "^(configure)$"> That's not used in Foswiki 2.0. did you pick the wrong release in ApacheConfigGenerator?
What CentOs walkthrough are you referring to?
[19:35]
JoeRiveranope

its right there
this time i did not add it yet
[19:40]
gac410Where is that FilesMatch coming from? Ah.... okay. Let me update that topic and say it's obsolete!
Stick with the instructions in System.InstallationGuide ... A lot of the docs in Support web are "user contributed" and we have to catch up with them :(
All the stuff about LocalLib.cfg no longer needed on 99% of systems.
[19:41]
JoeRiveraCan't load pluggable LANGUAGES: Can't locate Locale/Language.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /var/www/html/foswiki/lib /usr/local/lib64/perl5 /usr/local/share/perl5 /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib64/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 . /var/www/html/foswiki/lib/CPAN/lib)
when trying to do a test email
[19:57]
gac410hm Let me find out where that one comes from. [19:59]
JoeRiverait says at the bottom email sent but I did not get it lol. not in spam [20:00]
gac410No... I meant Locale/Languagepm
ie what dependency should have installed it.
[20:00]
JoeRiveraok [20:01]
gac410hm does yum have perl-Locale-Language [20:02]
JoeRiveraperl-List-MoreUtils.x86_64 0.33-9.el7 base perl-Locale-Codes.noarch 3.26-2.el7 base perl-Locale-Maketext-Gettext.no
that did not go well lol
[20:04]
gac410On ubuntu / debian it comes with perl by default. Hm... [20:05]
JoeRiveraperl-Locale-Codes.noarch perl-Locale-Maketext-Gettext.noarch perl-Locale-Maketext-Simple.noarch perl-Locale-PO.noarch [20:05]
gac410Lavr, you around yet? [20:06]
JoeRiveraperl-Locale-Codes.noarchperl-Locale-Maketext-Gettext.noarch perl-Locale-Maketext-Simple.noarch perl-Locale-PO.noarch
thats easier to read
only ones with local
[20:06]
gac410I have no idea. On other systems, Locale/Languages.pm is a fundamental core perl module.
Lavr (KennethLavrsen) would probably know - he runs on Centos. But is in Europe and not here right now.
[20:10]
JoeRiveraseems with locate i see /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Date/Language.pm [20:13]
gac410Different module. Date::Language is not the same as Locale::Language
Ah... it is part of Locale-Codes .... install perl-Locale-Codes
(I locally upgraded it and that's the distribution it downloaded. I'll update the SystemRequirements docs
[20:13]
I checked "corelist" Locale::Codes should be part of perl core: Locale::Codes was first released with perl v5.13.1 So if it's missing, it looks like the Centos folks decided to omit it [20:24]
JulianLevensjmk0: please create tasks against dev tools, I have started to scratch this itch so feedback on issues would be most welcome [20:34]
gac410hm. ImagePlugin on foswiki.org is breaking images Foswiki:System.TopicsAndWebs [20:36]

............ (idle for 58mn)
jomoho gac410 , thanx for the LOW priority stat() patch! :) [21:34]
gac410If someone provides a patch, I do try to get them applied.
otherwise the Low tasks tend to be forgotten forever ... just behind the Normal priority.
[21:35]
jomogac410: :) [21:36]
jmk0lol
hopefully you'll see it at some point, just gotta get it past the lawyers :P
