foswiki_irc3hi how do I set the default page to foswiki to be just a login page before anything can be accessed? I'm using natskin
should I install this plugin? http://foswiki.org/Extensions/HomePagePlugin

gac410bin/configure used to check the critical dependencies, making the initial visit a bit more friendly rather than a obscure 500 crash on missing deps. [14:05]
andreliHi MichaelDaum: Not a Foswiki question directly, but ImagePlugin behaves different on my new machines. Problem 1: certain bmp images turn black. Problem 2: the exif rotation flag gets ignored. Are foswiki setting involved in these problems? [14:06]
gac410We should probably move a "foreach (qw( CGI CGI::Session Crypt::PasswdMD5 File::Copy::Recursive JSON )) into setlib.cfg to print a meaningful fail when critical stuff is missing.
Also, we need more checking & errors in configure for critical missing dependencies, rather than leaving it to crash when the error is encountered.
[14:07]
MichaelDaumhey andreli
yea exif rotate is a problem. thats why I've added a rotate param to the %IMAGE tag ... a manual thing however. but maybe better than nothing.
black bmp ... strange.
which os is it underneath?
[14:08]
andreliImagemagick on Ubuntu 14.04.
Exif Flag is ignored in Topicinteraction too.
[14:10]
MichaelDaumsame tech underneath ... imagemagick [14:14]
.... (idle for 15mn)
andreli_convert_ on the console does not create black images
update: _convert -resize_ creates black images

loopforeverhi all ... just wanted to drop a note here ... thanks for the many editrowplugin fixes in 2.0.2, it makes it usable now
we noticed however, that on large tables, the page never loads
360 rows, 8 columns
edittableplugin still works on that table (slowly, but the page does eventually render)
[15:27]
gac410loopforever: Does the server "time out" eventually, or are there any errors logged? [15:29]
loopforeverwe haven't sat on the page long enough to report whether it times out eventually
you just get a white page with the browser spinning
my guess is the server has sent /some/ data back, but not enough for the browser to render the page
[15:30]
gac410Any complexities ... TABLE macros, or just a simple %EDITTABLE%
Or any javascript errors indicated by the browser?
[15:31]
loopforeversimply %EDITTABLE{ format="..." }%
no JS errors...never gets that far
[15:31]
gac410okay. same FORMAT= string is fine with fewer rows? [15:32]
loopforeveri can also confirm that the table is well formed...we had someone go through and clean it up
(ie. equal column count)
yes, it does load with fewer rows
[15:32]
gac410I'll try to recreate it without the format string. [15:35]
loopforeveri don't have an exact number of rows, but it also exhibits this problem with about 160 rows, 8 columns
ill keep fiddling with it and seeing if there's a magic threshold
[15:36]
so...it seems that regardless of size, the table does eventually load
s/table/page/
so there is no magic threshold where it simply loads indefinitely
[15:41]
gac410Yeah, I'm up to 400 rows in a simple table | A | B | ... H | and it takes a second or so, but loads [15:42]
loopforeveri removed the format attribute, and even 125 rows, 8 columns, is taking about a minute to load
so i think there is something different about what you and i are testing
[15:44]
gac410Rendering the page took 4.7 seconds, and returned a 56k byte page. total time on page 5.6 seconds
How complex is the data? Any macros?
Can you paste a "typical" row, sanitized of anytihng confidential and I can repeat that one a few hundered times and see what happens.
[15:44]
loopforeverit's people's addresses and phone numbers and some other metadata...but i just tried your example (| A | ... | H |) and it is equally slow [15:47]
gac410This is probably one that needs profiling with NYTProf to see where the time is being spent. [15:48]
loopforeveris there any documentation on how i would go about doing that? [15:49]
gac410I enabled EditTablePlugin, and it does seem quite a bit faster. [15:49]
loopforeverhappy to try it
this is perl 5.18.1 on a 32 core Xeon E52660 / 32gb ram
and not much else running on the box
so it's probably safe to rule out hardware
[15:49]
gac410It's a bit tricky, involves running the scripts if possible from the cli.
I'm running on a laptop. hm It could be other extensions as well. Do you have any other non-default extensions enabled?
[15:51]
loopforeveractiontrackerplugin
(there are some bugs with that as well, i wanted to report them, but i can't get an account on foswiki.org activated)
let me turn it off
one sec
[15:53]
gac410loopforever: Ah... I can try to resolve that. We do indeed have registrations 2-3 times a day, so it's working for some.
Send me a private message with what you tried to register and I'll look at the server logs.
[15:54]
loopforeveri tried registering last week, two things happened: 1) after filling out the registration form I was brought to a CSRF warning page, 2) i never receive an email with activation code [15:55]
gac410what wikiname did you try to register? [15:56]
loopforevermy real name...starts with MattS
(sorry, can't send PM from webchat on my chromebook, I don't think...)
[15:57]
gac410Used a gmail address? [15:58]
loopforeveryes, same as my name [15:59]
gac410Okay, I found the registration start on 6 October [15:59]

gac410Have you tried the updated extensions after I built / uploaded 2.0.2? [16:22]
hm I just upgraded a 2.0.1 with all the updated extensions, and things seem to be working fine. [16:29]

MichaelDaumgac410, replied for more info
gotta run. have a nice weekend yall
[17:05]
gac410Hey CDot ... howdy. Have a minute? [17:11]
CDotargh, just shutting down... if it's quick [17:11]
gac410Just thinking about adding a foreach "require blah" into setlib.cfg for the critical deps, so we can generate a meaningful error
Rather than a 500 internal server error with missing deps.
There are 4 or 5 that will cause a 500. CGI CGI::Session JSON Crypt::PasswdMD5
bin/configure used to do something like that on 1.1 as it was the first script used. But now with new config, don't have that optino.
Anyway, nothing all that critical I can check it in and we can revert if it's an issue.
[17:12]
CDotI don;t see a problem with that [17:15]
gac410okay. I was concerned that "eval requires" of the deps for every txn might have performance implications.
But I suppose fastcgi/mod_perl will solve that.
Anyway... have a good weekend
[17:16]
CDot:-) [17:17]
