gac410dldlAtWork: Not to worry. Foswiki is a pretty big system - lots of places to overlook docs. Been there ... Done that :) [00:19]

holymoohi guys. does foswiki have hierarchical menus and per section / per page permissioning?
looks like ldap is supported which is excellent
[00:35]
vrurgHi holymoo , there're permissions on per web/per topic basis. As to the menus – you'd have to create them on your own by defining a skin header section. Don't ask me how to do it. ;) [00:46]
holymooaha!
that clears it up. i appreciate it.
[00:46]
vrurgBTW, you may have a look at foswiki.org menu. Though it's single-level but it's a good point to start with and have an idea on how to implement it. [00:52]

dldlAtWorkIs there any possible issues with using servertime as opposed to gmtime (v.1.1.9 - I swear I remember reading a warning somewhere about this)
all I can find is: "Note, full support of early dates will not be available until Foswiki 1.2."
which makes me really nervous; But I haven't added anything that would use dates before 1/1/70. Does that mean this would be safe to do?

MichaelDaumgac410, well, I use a DataFormTemplate to create a new definition.
but anyway
good to see you've found out how to accomplish your mod :)
[15:13]
gac410Yeah, it was pretty simple. Jomo asked for it, and it seemed to make sense. But I do so little with data forms, didn't recall the template. [15:15]
MichaelDaumcontent snippets, that's what we use topic templates for [15:16]
gac410yeah good point. Want me to revert it? [15:17]
MichaelDaumthough only when creating a new topic, not as snippets in their sense of use
it would be nice to have a more general way to insert TopicSnippets
up to you. as you like: leave it in or revert.
[15:17]
gac410y. even if that "snippet insert" tool we have was extensible.
Probably leave it. It doesn't really hurt anything I suppose.
gac410 is utterly baffled on Item13911 ... I recreated it multiple times. And now, that I go to investigate it. It's working just fine.
[15:18]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13911 [ Item13911: "Edit form" action enters Wysiwyg editor, action=form is ignored ] [15:20]
MichaelDaumlet's keep the idea of "content snippets" in the back of our mind. once that materializes we can revert. [15:21]
gac410Y. That little [+] dropdown seems like a good place for snippets. Most of the other uses would be consistent. Signature, HR, ...
Maybe a "Snippets" topic that dynamically builds that menu, Extensible by System.EditSnippets, Main.EditSnippets, Main.WikiNameEditSnippets. or some sort of similar mechanism.
Or maybe an Ajax fetch of the snippet from a topic/section.
Anyway. For another day. ;)
[15:22]
CDot. foswiki.org foswiki debug log is getting lots of "surprise mapping" messages [15:36]
CDotwhat's one of them, then? [15:36]
gac410MailerContrib Warning: surprising mapping <email redacted> => Main.MichaelDaum != MichaelDaum |
Looks like every one generated because of Web prefix mismatch
[15:37]
CDotCould be, I guess. Never seen anything like that before.
CDot will have a look at the code when he's finished his tax return :-(
[15:37]
gac410330 messages since the beginning of the year, so not too extreme. [15:39]
CDotprobably a bogus entry in a WebNotify somwhere. [15:39]
gac410gac410 turned on TRACE for UpdatesPlugin to try to figure out the stuck update warning. and noticed the other errors.
Looks like it's "ControlWikiWordPlugin that is stuck ... ControlWikiWordPlugin: installed: $Rev: 12204 (2011-07-23) $, available release=1.4, ...
[15:40]
oh for ... CDot, the stuck update is sort of legitimate. Another case of a module not being updated on Foswiki.org for some reason. [15:53]
CDotah [15:54]
gac410The extension "as released" has VERSION 1.4 RELEASE 1.4, but the module on f.o has our $VERSION = '$Rev: 12204 (2011-07-23) $'; [15:54]
CDotthat's an RCS rev no, thought we'd purged all those [15:54]
gac410gac410 going to "reinstall" and see if it updates.
It is purged. It may have been a fubar release too. The RELEASE is 1.4 in both cases. But module in Extensions web has the right VERSION, the one installed does not.
Really release should have been incremented if we changed the version string.
[15:54]
CDotnothing questionable about the permissions? [15:56]
gac410no. And install fixed it.
I think it's a case of the plugin being released without changing release, just the version string, so bin/configure didn't detect it as needing update.
So UpdatesPlugin seems to detect if the VERSION doesn't match, even if the RELEASE is identical, where as bin/configure trusts the RELEASE string.
So if there is a bug, and I'm not sure there is, then it's probably in bin/configure. But in this case, I am willing to argue that at some point in time, the upload of an extension without incrementing RELEASE was the bug.
Probably me ... :P
[15:58]
Yay,... I can share the blame. :D MichaelDaum updated the VERSION string without bumping the version or release. Then I built / uploaded it, as there were no other changes. [16:13]
MichaelDaumMichaelDaum dancing in the dark [16:13]
gac410I guess that's a lesson. Never upload an extension with a changed VERSION string unless RELEASE has also been incremented. [16:14]
Item13907 now set to Low, and confirmed with an explanation of what went wrong. The suggested enhancements are good. [16:21]

foswiki_irc6Hi there, I'm trying to update my plugin by using foswiki configuration tool, but after click on "review on installed extension" the small windows with message "wait" hangs indefinetly [18:50]
...... (idle for 26mn)
dldlI have a page doing a query search that takes ~10 seconds to load. The query returns 71 topics (out of ~80).
is this expected performance? is there a way to improve search speed (I already point to the web I am interested in)
[19:16]
foswiki_irc6in my case i'm in the condition to no more get the list of plugin.....:( [19:21]
dldlfoswiki_irc6: are you behind a firewall? [19:22]
foswiki_irc6no [19:23]
dldlI'm behind a corporate firewall, and it breaks the Install/Update funcitonality for me (I was never able to get it to work)
I can private message you some instructions for manually installing plugins, if you are interested (let me know)
[19:23]
foswiki_irc6it works untill I got the request for an automatic update that went wrong due to loss of power on my client PC
my address is rb@robertobernetti.com
but I would restore the functionality...if possible
[19:24]
gac410dldl, re query search performance. It really depends a lot on how many topics in the web, and what you are actually searching on. [19:30]
dldlfoswiki_irc6: I sent you an email from guerillamail. The formatting is pretty terrible (sorry)
gac410: I was including a topic on the left side bar that was seriously hurting performance
I figured it out by basically deleting everything on the page one at a time until there was nothing left
except the left-side-bar... Now I'm down to ~4 seconds.
Would love to get it to sub3, but that might not be possible with the features requested by management.
[19:38]
gac410How many topics in the web? [19:40]
dldlaround 100
(probably a little less
[19:40]
gac410And are the topics you need to "consider" named in a consistent way. Hm that doesn't seem like a lot
Are you using FastCGI / FCGI or mod_perl ?
[19:41]
dldlno. I might consider it [19:41]
foswiki_irc6I had less then 100 topics [19:41]
dldlthe issue is that I am doing like 10 queries on the page (sorting the topics into multiple categories) [19:42]
gac410Ah... yeah that will slow things down. So not just a single search. [19:42]
foswiki_irc6How can I verify if I'm using FastCGI? [19:42]
dldlyeah. I had disabled all the searches but 1 and it was still going real slow, so I assumed it was the search.
but I forgot about the webleftbar
[19:42]
gac410dldl: Take a look at http://foswiki.org/Extensions/MultiSearchPlugin ... that can be helpful with multiple searches on a page. [19:43]
dldlI think there are a few options that I can do. Like do a query once then maybe have javascript shuffle the data around... I'll have to experiment a bit
gac410: oh my god... its beautiful
[19:43]
gac410foswiki_irc6: re: fast cgi, ... you are on Foswiki 2.0.x? Look at your System/FoswikiServerInformation page. An scroll down a bit to find the "Engine" [19:45]
foswiki_irc6Yes I'm on foswiki 2.0.x
but I have no System/FoswikiServerInformation
[19:54]
gac410That's strange. It's one of our default shipped topics. Need to be authorized to use bin/configure to be able to access it. [19:56]
foswiki_irc6thank you for the help I have to go to have diner now Bye Bye [19:58]
gac410g'night [19:58]
