WhoWhatWhen
vrurgAnybody running tests on bsd systems? [00:40]
........ (idle for 38mn)
gac410Hi vrurg Not that I've heard of. Foswiki.org (for now) is still running on FreeBSD, but we don't run the tests there. [01:18]
vrurggac410: I located the problem already, working on a workaround. bsdtar is sending listings while create an archive to stderr. gnutar – to stdout.
ExtensionInstallation fails because of this.
Actually, if I learn why FileUtil uses $@ at line 682 while I would expect it to be $? then solution would be rather simple.
[01:19]
.......... (idle for 48mn)
gac410Dumb programmer error? [02:09]
vrurg: I wrote that code ages ago iirc. it shows as Crawford because he refactored it all ages ago.
I've just always checked $@ for error returns.
[02:15]
vrurgOk, I have fixed it in my branch. Trying to use gnutar if present, redirect stderr to stdout otherwise and use that.
Error is always checked against $?, $results are used as output collector only/
BTW, I have found anohter mistype in a test and guess there would be few more to come. May be a task needed to collect them?
[02:19]
gac410Yeah might be best ... Create a task to gather up minor unit test errors. [02:22]
vrurgOk, adding you to WaitingFor. [02:27]

gac410thanks :) [02:35]
vrurgNP. [02:38]
gac410fixed - and tests still pass [02:38]
vrurgvrurg wish it means there are no bugs... ;)
Actually, this will make my life a bit easier – no need to keep in mind where a mistype was found until I can reach you on the channel. ;)
[02:39]
gac410gac410 recalls many years ago, an IBM mainframe program IEFBR14 ... it was a "null" program it had one instruction, BR 14 (branch register 14) a return. Yet there were still multiple bugfixes against it. [02:45]
vrurgI never actually got a catch with their mainframes. We had a USSR replica of one of them in my university back in 1990. Though I managed to pass some FORTRAN programming on that beastie but never got to understand how it works until lately... [02:47]
Something is constantly replacing symlinks in core/test/unit with actual files. Any idea what causes it?
Could it be 'build.pl tidy'?
[02:53]
gac410I've never seen that. And I never use build.pl tidy. Maybe it does. I always just perltidy -b path/to/file
And perltidy -b seems to play nicely with pseudo-installed links.
[02:55]
vrurgUnfortunately, the the latest versions of perltidy are not fully compatible with what build.pl and git are using.
Sometimes when I tidyfy manually git still complains untils I run build.pl. So, I now have to run it on all codebase before each commit.

gac410vrurg, just reading last nights logs - missed your comment about tidy version not correct.
Make sure you have PERL5LIB="/var/www/foswiki/distro/BuildContrib/lib" (path to your buildcontrib lib) in your env

Daniel_hello today out of nowhere when I access a private wiki page I get:
Foswiki detected an internal error - please check your Foswiki logs and webserver logs for more information.
Insecure dependency in sysopen while running with -T switch
[17:18]
gac410All pages, or one specific page?
What version of Foswiki?
[17:19]
Daniel_this is what the Foswiki log says: http://pastebin.com/Fvm8vsxz
Foswiki version v1.1.9, Release Foswiki-1.1.9, Plugin API version 2.2
[17:20]
gac410So it's failing in the session load code. That's really strange. Was the system updated external to Foswiki? new perl, CPAN modules, etc? [17:23]
Daniel_it was that one page, and only at the moment when it was trying to authenticate me. I now went to the home page, logged-in normally, and traveled to the page, and it was fine. [17:23]
gac410That is really strange.
Foswiki 2.0 has turned off Taint checking by default so that can't (or shouldn't) happen in the new version.
[17:23]
Daniel_that's the only thing I think makes sense.... I checked the configure page and there is error therem
do you think it is wise for me to turn off the Taint check too?
and how do I do that?
[17:24]
gac410Are you using fast_cgi / fcgi or mod_perl? [17:25]
Daniel_the Perl version that the system is currently running is
perl --version
This is perl, v5.10.1 (*) built for x86_64-linux-thread-multi
[17:25]
gac410It's a little more complex with them. For plain old CGI, you would edit the /bin/* scripts, and remove the -wT from the first line. [17:26]
Daniel_yes plain old CGI [17:26]
gac410Mod_perl, I am not sure how. And with FastCGI, it needs some code changes. so that the fcgi processes don't use the flag either. [17:27]
Daniel_ok, thanks I'll see if the problem repeats, and if it does I'll remove the taint check [17:27]
gac410Things that can cause that error,. Relative paths in the lib path. ../ for ex. [17:27]
Daniel_that's weird: what happened was that I gain access by using Firefox in private mode. The regular Firefox window stilll shows the error for all private pages.
So I guess it was something to do with cookies...
[17:33]
gac410yeah.. Maybe it's a bad session file or cookie. Try clearing your site cookies. [17:34]
Daniel_yes, that fixed it
thanks gac410
[17:38]
gac410You're welcome. That's a really strange situation, I have no idea what was happening. [17:43]
Daniel_do you think I should file a ticket
where?
just in case other people start having the same problem.
[17:43]
gac410Foswiki:Tasks but unless we have a way to recreate it on Foswiki 2.0, it won't get much activity [17:44]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Tasks [ WebHome ] [17:44]
gac410At this point we are close to releasing 2.1, and Foswiki 1.1.x is not getting any further fixes.
And 2.0 has disabled Taint checking, so it would be be pretty unlikely
[17:44]
Daniel_is there a page with the most notorious hurdles people who are migrating to 2.0 need to be aware of when moving to the new version? [17:45]
gac410hm Probably character set conversion to utf-8
Foswiki:Support/Utf8MigrationConsiderations
[17:46]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Support/Utf8MigrationConsiderations [ Utf8MigrationConsiderations ] [17:46]
gac410Although the official recommendation is to use bulk_copy to convert the store, Foswiki:Extensions.CharsetConverterContrib has been more reliable. [17:48]
FoswikiBothttp://foswiki.org/Extensions.CharsetConverterContrib [ CharsetConverterContrib ] [17:48]
gac410Due to cut/paste by windows users, the existing Foswiki store is seldom "clean" for a simple migration. :(
Foswiki defaults to iso-8859-1 character set, but unfortunately it's pretty common to end up with cp-1252 windows characters mixed in.
[17:48]
Daniel_will see how that goes, again thanks [17:52]

dldl-workFor v1.1.9: I want all TOCs to appear as %RENDERLIST{"THREAD"}%
is there a way to set this once for all TOCs, or do I need to add %RENDERLIST{"THREAD"}% before ever %TOC% call?
[20:10]

JaniHHi. Could anyone help me understand variables and %INCLUDE%?
I use * Set Varname = variable in a topic however when I %include% that topic in another topic I can no longer access the variable.
just trying to understand what I'm missing.
[20:33]
dldl-workJaniH: Is the variable set in webpreferences or site preferences? [20:36]
uebera||dldl-work: If you manage to override the definition of TOC for this, you don't need to touch the individual calls [20:36]
JaniHdldl-work: it's just a variable I create in a topic (neither webpreferences or site preferences) [20:36]
dldl-workI am guessing that the topic you are including is defined in another web where Varname hasn't been defined
Is Varname defined in the topic that is included, or the topic doing the include?
[20:36]
JaniHdldl-work: it's defined in the topic that is included. [20:37]
dldl-workbut it doesn't appear after it has been included?
i.e. It looks fine by itself, but when you do an include it says %VARNAME%?
[20:37]
JaniHdldl-work: that's exactly correct.
dldl-work: I'm very much a rookie and am hoping that it's something that I just don't understand.
[20:38]
dldl-workCan I suggest using the %ALLVARIABLES% macro
That should resolve in both cases, but it'll give you an idea of the scope of the variables
I'm guessing you are out of scope for the %MYVAR%
I think you will ultimately need to use the %EXPAND% Macro
[20:40]
JaniHdldl-work: I did try %ALLVARIABLES% and it displays my variable in the included topic by itself but when I try to include that topic in another the variable is no longer in the %ALLVARIABLES% list. [20:43]
dldl-workYou are using the latest version of foswiki? [20:43]
JaniHdldl-work: No, i'm using Twiki [20:44]
dldl-workhmm... I don't know as much about Twiki
but I think you have a few options
Try using: %EXPAND{"$percentMYVAR$percent" scope="%WEB%.%TOPIC%"}%
instead of %MYVAR%
[20:44]
JaniHdldl-work: thanks for your help. I'll try the %expand% you posted. [20:45]

JaniHIf I create a topic that contains " * Set VIEW_TEMPLATE = TestingCSS" and then within the TestingCSS topic I put " * Set WEBBGCOLOR = #ffffff" could anyone help me understand why there is no change.
it seems that I'm not understanding how to make changes to the appearance of individual topics.
[22:15]
jastpreferences in view templates don't apply to other topics
that only has an effect if you open TestingCSS itself
view templates (or skin templates in general) are for overriding part(s) of the page markup, i.e. the general structure
if you want to override preferences for a single topic, just put them inside that topic... but I think WEBBGCOLOR may be one of the more special preferences that is only ever read from the web's WebPreferences topic. not entirely sure about that, though. :)
[22:28]
JaniHjast: Thanks for the insight to WEBBGCOLOR.
I'll have to spend some more time learning tomorrow :)
[22:35]
jastsounds good. if you need any pointers, you know where to go... :) [22:36]
