foswiki_irc0Hello. I made a fresh install of Foswiki on Ubuntu 16.04 and everything worked fine until I restarted the server
Now when I try to access the page on Chrome I recieve an ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED error
I've tried restarting apache2 service, the error persists.
I am using https with a legit certificate from Let'sEncrypt, and also gzip content compression is enabled. Perhaps this is the issue?
Update - it seems the 404 page works and also the foswiki configuration page. Looks like only the main page does not work.
I've tested on a Friend's laptop - the main page works for him, however. I'll restart my PC, and update you guys on what happens.
Can anyone else hit up https://csc.uwc.wiki/ and tell me if it works?
[10:14]
uebera||foswiki_irc0: The page works for me; have you tried another browser? Could be a problem with the policies in Chrome rejecting certain encryption types. Have you tried https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html? [10:21]
foswiki_irc2Okay, I'm back. Restarted laptop and cleared cache on browser. Main page still doesn't work
Other pages work, though. Did anyone else try to access https://csc.uwc.wiki ?
[10:21]
uebera||foswiki_irc2, see [05.06.16 12:21] <uebera||> foswiki_irc0: The page works for me; have you tried another browser? Could be a problem with the policies in Chrome rejecting certain encryption types. Have you tried https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html? [10:22]
foswiki_irc2Thank you. It appears to only be an issue for me for the main page.
Retrying via incognito or Safari on my Mac doesn't work either, though.
[10:23]
uebera||Have you checked that both on your and your friend's laptop the cache has been cleared beforehand? And it's the same OS/browser?
(i.e., your friend's cache was cleared as well?)
[10:25]
foswiki_irc2His cache is not cleared. I'll find another friend who has not visited the site before, and try again. [10:26]
uebera||Or tell them how to clear the cache ;) Make sure (using the apache2 logs) that you see all requests in there. [10:27]
foswiki_irc2Qualys SSL Lab has given me a SSL grade of A with no grievious difficulties. I'm using an encryption certificate from Let's Encrypt gotten via their apache plugin. It should be fine.
Okay, doesn't work on the virgin's computer either. I think it may be a real problem..
Okay, it looks like everything in the System or Sandbox web is working fine. It appears it's the Main web that is suffering from this problem.
[10:27]
uebera||We're talking about "https://csc.uwc.wiki/Main/WebHome?refresh=cache", right? [10:31]
foswiki_irc2Oh wait. It works. Everything works now. On all the computers. [10:32]
uebera||I have no problems accessing your profile there. So I'd say the problem lies with the client.
There. Fixed it for you. :D
[10:32]
foswiki_irc2Apologies. That was deeply embarrassing. Thank you very much for your help. [10:32]
uebera||You're very welcome. Happens all the time... [10:33]
foswiki_irc2Hey - umn, as a part of my debugging, I found some error entries in the /var/log/apache2/error.log file. I think they might be related to my cache
I'm using MySQL for caching. Do you know what these mean?
[10:34]
uebera||If it's a single line, can you cite it here (or use a pastebin)? [10:35]
foswiki_irc2I'm uploading it to pastebin right now..
http://pastebin.com/bVSBBtHA
Here.
[10:35]
FoswikiBotHere is the command: perl convert_charset.pl [10:36]
foswiki_irc2What do you mean, FoswikiBot? [10:36]
uebera||sigh... artificial intelligence.
I doubt that the bot just parsed your log.
[10:37]
foswiki_irc2I wasn't sure if robots are real or not, so I had to ask :) [10:38]
uebera||foswiki_irc2: Did you include the password here? In that case, you might want to change it. [10:40]
foswiki_irc2Oh my. I'm so sorry. Let me regenerate that password right away.
I'm so, so, sorry. I'm really new to this, I swear.
[10:41]
uebera||No problem at all. From the error message, I'd say have a look at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5376427/cant-connect-to-local-mysql-server-through-socket-var-mysql-mysql-sock-38 and check your mysql setup. [10:43]
foswiki_irc2Okay. I'm reading it now. Just changed the password. [10:45]
uebera||uebera|| will be afk for a while [10:55]
foswiki_irc2I'm attempting the instructions in the stackoverflow, but mysql is now refusing to start
I've stopped the mysql service and it now refuses to restart. :/
Okay, turns out I was actually running out of memory.

peterpacz1Hello. I am trying to customize the Nat skin on a installation of Foswiki. I'm trying to customize the navigation headers in the System/SiteMenu page.
How can I make it so that certain <li>...</li> would only show up if the current user is in the StudentsGroup user group?
So that unregistered users would not see those elements in the top navbar when browsing the site.
Thank you in advance.
[14:58]
Update: I have found the following example on the https://foswiki.org/System.IfStatements documentation page:
%IF{"'SOMEONE' ingroup 'GROUP'" then="THEN" else="ELSE"}%
In place of SOMEONE, I need to have a variable for the current user - so that if the current user is not in the GROUP, the <li> would not be included. How do I do that?
I apologize for my ignorance - I am new to Foswiki and Perl, and I sincerely appreciate all help.
[15:04]
Update 2: I've tried to use the following code, but it does not work at all. I am really stumped:
%IF{"$wikiname ingroup 'StudentsGroup'" then="<li>[[https://csc.uwc.wiki/Guides/][%MAKETEXT{"Student Guides"}%]]</li>" else=""}%
[15:11]
Update 3: I've elaborated on my code. It appears to work halfway - the else condition fullfills. However, my user is in the studentsgroup. What is going on?
http://pastebin.com/D06uWAwS
[15:18]
Update 4: I have finally fixed it, yay! It turns out I had to capitalize the $username variable as $USERNAME. Silly n00b mistake on my behalf. Apologies for taking up your time. [15:24]
