FoswikiSlackIRC1<1977er> rouilj: Thanks for the hint, but it did not work either. Too many perl internals were deprecated. :( [00:17]

foswiki_irc0after installing v2.1.2, when I restore foswiki directory structure (/var/www/foswiki/) from last backup (v2.0.2), the welcome page reports realease 2.0.2, how can I run latest release with old backup?
If I restore only /bin and /pub I get some errors, that's why I restored all directories
and now I still get warnings like "Can't find topic". Apparently foswiki can't find the WebLeftBar when I click on any topic
someone could help me with that?

jastfoswiki_irc0: the best way to run data from a backup with the newest foswiki release is: restore from backup, overwrite with contents from Foswiki *upgrade* tarball (which contains a subset of files from the release, minus files you may have customized) [12:27]
FoswikiOnSlack<1977er> jast: This works even between 2.0 and 2.1 releases? [12:30]
jastto the best of my knowledge, yes [12:31]
FoswikiOnSlack<1977er> jast: but not 1.1 and 2.0 I guess. [12:32]
jastwell, there may be some changes required to your existing content between 1.1 and 2.0
for instance, in 2.0 the default store encoding changes to UTF-8
[12:33]
FoswikiOnSlack<1977er> well, sure. [12:34]
jastand there are almost certainly extra steps needed if you had extra extensions installed
but for the most part we try not to break compatibility so badly that you can't even reuse your content from a previous major release
[12:34]
FoswikiOnSlack<1977er> the biggest obstacles in major release upgrade have always been the topic cherry picking process. :( In Main and System web. [12:36]
jastwell, generally you'll be unhappoy if you edit anything in System [12:41]
FoswikiOnSlack<1977er> true [12:41]
