LynnwoodIt's come up a couple of times this month where clients would like more detailed information about user use and contributions to Foswiki site then provided by WebStatistics. Anyone have thoughts about how to do this? It has occurred to me that if there was a way to parse the log files, then you could provide more fine-grained info. There obvious security issues with plugin providing direct access to the log files, but what about a shell
script (or perl script if i could do it) that parses the log files and gathers acceptable data and stores it somewhere that is accessible (such as in a topic) for further processing and formatting.
The specific requests I've received are 1) seeing who visits what pages and 2) show how many contributions (saves) a particular user does each day of the month.
One could derive all this info from the event.log.
I remember at some point there was a plugin developed to parse the log files. Not sure if it ever got published (or perhaps it died of old age).
[15:07]
Ah! I did find the plugin that allows for querying the log files: Extensions.ContributorsPlugin [15:19]

gac410JulianLevens: interesting. Encoding::FixLatin looks like a very nice solution. No I had not seen it.
Would be nice to have CDot look at it as well. Maybe we should switch to using this module when available. Might even be interesting option to use it "On the fly"

vrurggac410: I'd be worried that it doesn't care about non-latin charsets. It will for sure break them.

rouiljLynwood if you can fix ContributorsPlugin that would be great. It fill a need for my use case (show how people are improving documentation at weekly meetings etc). I got some fixes in it but it still looks horrible. [23:44]
gac410rouilj: If you are seeing issues with ContributorsPlugin please open a task at https://foswiki.org/Tasks/ContributorsPlugin [23:48]
