WhoWhatWhen
gac410well finally found why email autoconfig wizard is failing - It converts hostname to ip address, and then of course the cert validation fails because certificates identify the name, not IP.
So now I can't explain why the old version of IO::Socket::SSL works.

gac410vrurg: Heads up about the Mute code. It won't work on FCGI systems.
Fails with: Error: Operation 'OPEN' not supported on FCGI::Stream handle
It's not possible to capture stderr on a Fcgi system.
(I converted the autoconfig email wizard to use your Muter class, but need to work on getting it to be graceful under FCGI.

vrurggac410: congrats with email wizard, btw.
I'll try to check the FCGI issue tomorrow. Would need to configure it first...

gac410It's a known issue with capturing on an FCGI system. Can't do it.
Comments in the old AutoconfigEmail wizard. I fixed the new impl by just not calling _muteExec if engine =~ fcgi
The one benefit the old code had is that the STDERR could be interrupted and output in chunks. Try a config - show the stderr, try the next config, show the stderr.
but the lowest level I could call muteExec( \&_someSubroutine ) was too high up, and there were lots of variables to deal with if I tried to break it into smaller routines :(
horrible code though - globals galore
here is the rt ticket that added the die https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=75580
