gac410MichaelDaum: Item14206 ... reporter has a point, if you do choose to drop NatEdit, then the old text editor has some broken features. [13:56]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item14206 [ Item14206: PatternSkin fails to load foswiki_edit.js, pattern_edit.js ] [13:56]
gac410And he asks - how to change switch the font under nat-edit control? [13:57]
***ChanServ sets mode: +o Lynnwood [14:01]
MichaelDaumgac410, natedit doesn't have any feature to toggle fonts. thats geeky.
to change the font you'd normally go the css way and override .ui-natedit textarea
[14:01]
gac410What he observied is if you use the 1.1.x js to set the font, then Natedit honors it. [14:03]
MichaelDaumI know nothing about PatternSkin's editor. Never used it. [14:03]
gac410okay. Just trying to sniff through backlog and figure out wtf to do. [14:03]
MichaelDaumy [14:03]
gac410any progress on your other pattern changes you were planning on checking in? [14:04]
MichaelDaumgot them ready to go [14:04]
gac410I just have to coordinate with vadim and revert the fcgi capture changes, and with your fixes we could probably spin out 2.1.3 beta [14:05]
MichaelDaumwhen did you plan 2.2 to feature-freeze. was going to update the foswiki calendar [14:05]
gac410At this point I have no idea. Nobody is making any headway, we keep shifting it 4 months. Was Sept, then Dec, April?
No sense freezing if we have a big backlog of unfinished work and nothing ready to release.
What the heck. Lets say April freeze ... does that work for you?
[14:06]
MichaelDaumApril 1rst [14:07]
gac410well after 3-4 slips, I was figuring April 15 might be safer than April Fools ;D [14:08]
MichaelDaumwould make a good headline
new foswiki out. not joking.
[14:08]
gac410Well that's a feature freeze date, not a release date. Still need some months to go through polishing and betas. [14:09]
MichaelDaummy brain's on slomo [14:09]
gac410We'd need to feature freeze in Feb for an Apr 1st release.
That's probably too aggressive. Y. my brain too.

foswiki_irc0hello i need some assistance setting up foswiki behind a reverse proxy
the currrent issue is that the URL is populating twice
using apache 2.2 on rhel 6
this only happens when i put the foswiki through the reverse proxy
local works fine + on initial entry point
[17:21]
gac410What version of Foswiki [17:23]
foswiki_irc02.1.2
it was migrated from ubuntu foswiki 1.3, did a clean install of 2.1.2 and moved to rhel
[17:24]
gac410Try setting the expert parameter on the configure main page ForceDefaultUrlHost [17:25]
foswiki_irc0i put the reverse proxy ip in that setting?
thanks btw for responding , i need all the help i can get
[17:25]
gac410no it's a checkbox. Foswiki will just ignore the entered host [17:26]
foswiki_irc0ok i will try that thanks!
i have another problem also with the import export excel plugin
i get a 500 error when i try to export or import tables
is there another plugin possibly that i can use for 2.1.2?
[17:26]
gac410So if {DefaultUrlHost} is http://yoursite.com/ and {ForceDefaultUrlHost} is enabled then URLs will be forced to the http://yoursite.com [17:27]
FoswikiBot[ yoursite.com ] [17:27]
foswiki_irc0i see so set {DefaultUrlHost} to my proxy ?
and then enable ForceDefaultUrlHost?
ok i will figure it out... any ideas for the importexport excel plugin or has support dried up for that
i havent seen anything since 2010?
[17:28]
gac410No idea on that plugin. IIRC someone reported that they got it working ... let me check the logs. [17:31]
foswiki_irc0oh great thanks! [17:31]
gac410Lynnwood: .. you were working on ExcelImportExportPlugin back in September ... Did you get it working?
if you are getting a 500, you might have missing dependencies, Need to look to what the real failure was in the web server logs. 500 just says something bad happened.
[17:32]
foswiki_irc0ive installed the dependents and reinstalled
do i need to symlink to a separate lib directory?
thats how the ubuntu one worked on 1.3
well just export works on 1.3 on our set up
[17:33]
gac410Need to debug the logs. Probably getting a stack trace of some sort No idea about symlinking Really depends upon your server configuration.
I'm not all that familiar with rhat
1.3 ... you mean Foswiki 1.1.3?
[17:34]
foswiki_irc0oh yes sorry [17:35]
gac410no prob. just checking ;)
Ping Lynnwood
Best bet, tail your apache error_log, and then try the import or export, and capture the log messages that tell what the failure was.
[17:35]
foswiki_irc0legacy.pm error and CGI.pm error [17:37]
gac410Known issues are at https://foswiki.org/Tasks/ExcelImportExportPlugin [17:37]
foswiki_irc0ok ill check it out thanks!
who is lynnwood?
[17:37]
gac410One of the developers/consultants who I recall was looking at that extension last month. [17:38]
foswiki_irc0oh excellent! thank you [17:38]
gac410legacy.pm and CGI.pm don't tell me anything. If you want me to look, please use http://pastebin.com and paste the stack trace that happens before the 500. (private paste, with short life) [17:39]
foswiki_irc0ok
another question , is there a safe way to get the jquery library stack?
i have one with many deprecated alerts
[17:40]
gac410jquery isn't my forte. Dont' know what jquery library stack is. Foswiki 2.1.3 should have a fairly recent jquery. If you configured from scratch, then the latest version will be set in the bin/configure Extensions JQuery tab.
If you migrated an old 1.1.x LocalSite.cfg ( NOT recommended) they you need to visit and update the versions for current and old IE
[17:43]
foswiki_irc0well i bootstrapped off of it and then it generated a new one
but i will keep that in mind when i go through everything and come back
[17:44]
gac410okay good. Then it really ought to be up to date. JQuery 2.2.3 is default with Foswiki 2.1.2 [17:46]
foswiki_irc0thank you for helping me out i think you pointed me in the right direction, i think i did too much backend configurations and forgot to use the bin/configure for most of my customisations [17:46]
gac410Y, new foswiki is very dependent on bin/configure. Or check out the new CLI configure tool if you prefer the shell [17:47]
foswiki_irc0is there a way to see path's like in 1.1.3 for the different configurations? [17:47]
gac410tools/configure -save -set {Password}='NewAdminPass' -set {Another}{Key}='anothervalue' ...
paths?
[17:47]
foswiki_irc0directory paths of what the configuration macros effect? [17:48]
gac410Where would you see that on 1.1.3 configure. Not ringing a bell. [17:48]
foswiki_irc0um under expert options there is a text under the text field showing directory paths
i think parsed from the {....} marcos
[17:49]
gac410could you point me to a specific key example? [17:49]
foswiki_irc0sure h/o [17:49]
gac410*some* of the configure info moved into wiki pages. System.FoswikiServerInformation System.PerlDependenciesReport
tools/configure -check will perform a validity check on every configuration key.
[17:50]
foswiki_irc0foswiki/lib library files same level as bin /home/smith/public_html/foswiki/lib
or wait thats not it sorry please disregard
[17:53]
gac410okay. Checkout System.FoswikiServerInformation That dumps out the lib paths and the server configuration
We moved some of that stuff out of configure and into a topic.
[17:54]
foswiki_irc0oh i see ok [17:56]
gac410It's protected. You still need access to configure to be able to view the topics. [17:56]
foswiki_irc0alright well thank you very much i am going to figure out more stuff and i will be back this has been very helpful. i appreciate your time sir [17:57]
gac410yw [17:57]
JulianLevensgac410: do you know much about InfoCache and MetaCache? [18:00]
Lynnwoodsomeone ping me?
Lynnwood reading back
[18:02]
gac410JulianLevens: some though I'd have to refresh myself. [18:03]
Lynnwoodah yes... but see foswiki_irc0 is gone [18:03]
gac410Lynnwood: yeah he's gone. Sound like he has enough to keep him busy ;) [18:03]
Lynnwoodthere is a fix for at least importing from ImportExplort [18:03]
gac410Did you check it in? [18:03]
LynnwoodLynnwood looking up relevant task... [18:04]
JulianLevensDon't worry about it too much - it's not urgent, I've just stumbled across them again and never understood their purpose [18:04]
gac410MetaCache is iirc the one linked into Query search? [18:04]
JulianLevensI'm pretty sure Sven would the authority on the two, maybe CDot as well [18:04]
gac410It's highly crucial for performance, in that search will load the meta over and over, and the de-serialization of the topic is a huge overhead. MetaCache avoids that. [18:05]
JulianLevensactually I think that InfoCache, although I mostly guess that as its FW::Search::InfoCache [18:05]
gac410But unfortunately it's used only in search while it would be much more helpful more widely. Hm maybe you are right
lemme find my "miracle fix" task. that Lavr coined.
[18:05]
Lynnwoodhere's the task with fix for ExcelImportExportPlugin: http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item10072 [18:06]
gac410Item13593 for the metaCache fix [18:07]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item13593 [ Item13593: Foswiki 2.0 is 350% slower doing query SEARCH compared to 1.1.9. ] [18:07]
gac410Nobody checked it in :(
Item10072 that is
[18:08]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item10072 [ Item10072: Excel2topics needs to use =Foswiki::Func::saveTopic= ] [18:09]
JulianLevensThe comments in both suggest that they are a cache for Search hits, must be a difference though
Anyway I'll get back to the task in hand before I get distracted ... again ;)
[18:09]
gac410y, It's a ugly area of the code. MichaelDaum has a task to actually remove them which I would strongly object to due to the performance improvement.
Thx JulianLevens
Lynnwood: you don't care to adopt an extension?
[18:10]
JulianLevensThis should be part of the Store [18:10]
gac410Agreed. Right now search is a huge mess ...
Or it should be part of meta,
[18:10]
JulianLevensWell I was thinking about it some time ago, and was erring towards Store, but I cannot remember all the arguments [18:12]
gac410I suppose in some way search also ought to be delegated into store, if it would ever take advantage of db / indexing capabilities
Just discoverd Item14238 the other day when someone reported that the CREATEINFO search was not working
[18:13]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item14238 [ Item14238: Documentation for the reverted META:CREATEINFO is still in the release. ] [18:14]
gac410it's not working because it was removed ... except for the docs :( [18:14]
JulianLevensI spotted that, I remember being puzzled by it when I was working on my Store, found Docs but little evidence of actual use in code or topics
JulianLevens makes note to self: finish that Store!
[18:18]
gac410CDot reverted it all before 2.0
I think that it was supposed to be pseudo-META data populated when the topic/history was loaded. rather than cached into the .txt but not really sure
Anyway Lynnwood, the extension is "PleaseFeelFreeToModify" ... so it's officially up for adoption. You seem to have some test cases. I'm rather windows crippled.
[18:19]
LynnwoodI don't use it with windows...
i'm just concerned i don't have much to offer it.
I'll take a look at what i could do at least to test it and get that fix checked it.
[18:24]
gac410as our library of extensions drift towards unusability it hurts. We really need more of the devs to pick up and do some gentle TLC on a lot of these. Or the out-of-box experience is pretty poor. [18:26]
Lynnwoodagreed [18:29]
gac410gac410 has tried to pick up some of them But only so much time, [18:30]
Lynnwoodalthough i'd have to say that my experience with foswiki plugins is no worse and in most cases better than what i've seen in other communities.
i know you have.
[18:30]
gac410I think the 2.0 change has caused a number of breakages, what with the unicode changes and store internals that kills anyone who busts the official APIs [18:31]
