gac410MichaelDaum If you have a chance to check out latest Release02x01, it should be all set now with the fcgi STDERR issues. [13:46]
MichaelDaumyea it is fine [13:46]
gac410And email configuration wizard still works for nginx/fcgi - tested on an older ubuntu 14.04 system.
Thanks.
So whenever you get your pattern skin changes checked in, I *think* I'm ready to build 2.1.3 beta ... and tickle the translators. ;)

foswiki_irc5hello, any developers here? [15:27]
gac410foswiki_irc5: What's your question. I'm around for just a few minutes. [15:28]
foswiki_irc5what's the simplest way (in a perl cgi) to check if one is authenticated or not? [15:29]
gac410in foswiki? or a generic perl cgi question [15:30]
foswiki_irc5in foswiki. there's an entry in $session called authenticated, which's set to 1 if one's logged in.
but i don't know where $session is set.
[15:30]
gac410It's internal to foswiki. It should always exist. [15:32]
foswiki_irc5otherwise i'd just check $session->{authenticated}. [15:32]
gac410If you are writing a foswiki extension, you should not be touching $session-> directly. That's not published API
Foswiki::Func::isGuest() will tell you if the current user is logged in or not,
[15:33]
FoswikiBothttps://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Func [15:35]
foswiki_irc5i'm just writing a perl cgi to sniffer the $session->{authenticated}'s value [15:35]
gac410$session is the Foswiki object created when the foswiki env. is created. a separate cgi script will have no access to it. [15:36]
foswiki_irc5in the cgi, i can use whatever Foswiki modules if needed. [15:37]
gac410It's all transitive. You would need to run the Foswiki engine at cgi startup. I have no idea how you would go about all this outside of foswiki. [15:38]
foswiki_irc5okay. thanks a lot for your help. [15:39]
........................................................... (idle for 4h51mn)
any developers here? [20:30]
gac410hi foswiki_irc5 ... I'm back [20:31]
foswiki_irc5hi. someone told me that i can just set authentication for specified pages to force login to access the pages. how can i do that? [20:34]
gac410Sure .. Just Set ALLOWTOPICVIEW = SomeWikiname,AWikiGroup,OtherName [20:35]
foswiki_irc5such as setting DENYTOPICVIEW
where to set it?
[20:35]
gac410ALLOW denies everyone NOT listed. DENY allows everyone except those listed.
See Foswiki:System.AccessControl
[20:36]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/System.AccessControl [ AccessControl ] [20:36]
gac410It can be either inline in the topic text. A bullet with Set .... statement on it.
Or it can be in the topic metadata, edited under More Topic Actions
[20:37]
foswiki_irc5you set it through the web interface? or just change some configure file directly on the system? [20:38]
gac410web interface. Just edit the topic, enter the bullet and save
You should not ever have to edit any files on the system
[20:38]
foswiki_irc5do i have to login first as admin? [20:39]
gac410It depend on how your wiki is set up. You should not need to be admin unless the page you want to edit is restricted
Really ... read https://foswiki.org/System.AccessControl The documentation can be helpful!
[20:40]
foswiki_irc5okay. thanks. [20:42]
.... (idle for 15mn)
hi, @gac410, can you give me a siimple example? say i have a page i need to force login to access, what steps i need to take. [20:57]
gac410Set DENYTOPICVIEW = WikiGuest
Denying guest will force authentication
[20:58]
foswiki_irc5i'm sort of new to foswiki and i don't know where to set it. [20:59]
gac410Edit the topic you want to protect. Somewhere in the topic - doesn't matter where, click the "bullet" button in the editor to instert a bullet, and then follow it with Set DENYTOPICVIEW = WikiGuest [21:00]
foswiki_irc5you mean to click Edit button at the bottom first? [21:01]
gac410yes [21:01]
foswiki_irc5okay. i never tried editing a page before. [21:02]
gac410Actually it's even easier ... forgot about a new feature. Click edit. And then click the "Permissions" tab. Hopefully the fields there are sel-expllanatory
If you set "Users who may view" to "Registered users" that will accomplish what you want.
[21:04]
foswiki_irc5actually this is an iframe. when i clicked edit, i just got one line specifying the iframe's src and dimension. [21:06]
gac410huh ... in an iframe? We don't use iframes [21:07]
foswiki_irc5that's probably the reason someone who has the edit privileges and has worked with foswiki for quite a while asked me to work on it. [21:09]
gac410It sounds like something is very custom or quite broken on your foswiki. [21:10]
foswiki_irc5i was wondering that if that's simple, why this person didn't do it directly. [21:10]
gac410take a look at our live site ... https://foswiki.org/ you can register for an account and try things out .. in the Sandbox web please..
Other than our custom initial page, it's a very vanilla - out-of-the-box foswiki installation.
[21:10]
foswiki_irc5the permission tab did give me a list of radio buttons though. [21:11]
gac410y, you should be able to set your permissions there. [21:12]
foswiki_irc5guess i should try checking Registered users. [21:13]
gac410yes. Under the covers that does a deny on WikiGuest [21:13]
foswiki_irc5thanks a lot for your help. it does have the effect. the page tried to set the access control is an iframe, but the setting has the effect on the parent page.
that probably would do for the time being.
[21:20]
gac410okay good luck. [21:22]
foswiki_irc5thanks. another simple question. once i logged on, i don't see a logout button for me to log out.
should be a button somewhere for log off?
[21:24]
gac410It depends on how foswiki is configured.
If you use Apache / web server based login, then there is no logout. Just close your browser.
If you use the template login through foswiki, then you should be able to logout
[21:24]
foswiki_irc5i think i use the foswiki template for login.
i should the system uses foswiki template for login.
[21:26]
gac410Then there should be a logout link at the top of the "left side bar
or add to your URL yoursite.com/Somweb/Sometopic?logout=1
But by default we ship with a left sidbar that has the login, and logout links.
[21:26]
foswiki_irc5got it. thank you very much. [21:34]
gac410yw [21:34]
foswiki_irc5i don't see the logout and login links, but i guess the page's customized. [21:35]
gac410y probably. Can't help you there ;)
Either that or your site is using a different skin - like NatSkin ... though I am mostly unfamiliar with that.
[21:35]
foswiki_irc5right. ;-) really appreciate your help. [21:36]
