foswiki_irc8any developer here? [20:57]
gac410hi foswiki_irc8 I'm still hanging around for a little while anyway [20:57]
foswiki_irc8hi gac410. first of all, do you have a fixed id? that is, do you always have the id gac410? [20:59]
gac410yes [21:00]
foswiki_irc8okay, so i chatted with you yesterday about checking if an user is logged in or not. [21:02]
gac410yes [21:02]
foswiki_irc8ok here is a related question. is it possible to create a page which would show, say, the user's login name if he/she is logged in or "guest' if he/she is not logged in.
a foswiki page of course.
[21:04]
gac410Yes, %WIKINAME% or %WIKIUSERNAME% will expand to the current user, "JoeUser" or the linking version - "Main.JoeUser" See Foswiki:System.VarWIKIUSER [21:05]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/System.VarWIKIUSER [21:05]
gac410well... it shows the wikiname, not necessarily the login name. They can be different, if your site allows login names (a configuration option)
Damn.... poor memory. WIKINAME or WIKIUSERNAME. See Foswiki:System.WikiName
[21:07]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/System.WikiName [ WikiName ] [21:07]
gac410Foswik:System.VarUSERNAME shows the login name
Foswiki:System.VarUSERNAME
[21:08]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/System.VarUSERNAME [ VarUSERNAME ] [21:08]
foswiki_irc8okay. then as you know I'm quite new to foswiki, can you tell me how to create a new page? I don't see a button for new page creation. [21:10]
gac410hm In the default skin, there should be a link in the left bar that says "Create new topic" click that.
If that is missing, you can just change the URL to the topic name you want to create yoursite.com/Main/SomeNewPage and that should take you to an oops page where there is a create button
BTW... so you don't just scatter stuff around, it's best to experiment in your Sandbox web. ;)
[21:12]
foswiki_irc8somehow i got a page not found error, but i was able to get the oops page with a "create this topic" button. [21:16]
gac410Right, The not found page should return an oops page where you can create a missing topic. [21:17]
foswiki_irc8i'll be careful not corrupt the site. ;-)
the Not Found page's from apache.
[21:17]
gac410For completeness. a 3rd way to create a new topic. Edit an existing topic that you want to link to the new one. Add a wikiword - eg. "Here is MyNewTopic" Save the page, then click the broken link for MyNewTopic and it will create it. [21:18]
foswiki_irc8guess the path's customized on our site.
okay. thanks.
seems the "create this topic" button is not active.
on the oops page.
[21:18]
gac410no idea. Sounds like your site has some issues.
Do you have javascript enabled in your browser?
[21:20]
foswiki_irc8i think the javascript is enabled.
i'll check it out. but it's a different issue.
[21:21]
gac410okay. Well the topic name must be Legal - Alpha-Numeric, starting with Upper case. and unless checkbox is selected to allow non-wikiwords, it must be Upper/Lower/Upper
So if you try to create "sometopic" or "Sometopic", then button will be disabled. but SomeTopic should work
[21:22]
foswiki_irc8that's it. i just used something like Sometopic. Now the button is active when I used SomeTopic format. [21:25]
gac410There is a checbox to disable that restriction, but the advantage of BumpyText is it automatically links when in a topic. [21:26]
foswiki_irc8okay. i think it's fine the way it is set up.
again thanks a lot for your help.
[21:27]
gac410okay. glad to help. [21:27]
