fsfshmm, so I just uploaded FootNotePlugin and the installer contains a $PACKAGES_URL starting with https. Which doesn't work unless I delete the s: "ERROR: Repository https://foswiki.org/pub/Extensions not found" [15:11]
gac410hm I'm pretty sure I've been able to upload as https.
Do you have the https extensions to LWP installed?
Recent versions of LWP moved https support into a separate module
[15:12]
fsfsgac410: upload worked fine, but when I do 'perl -w FootNotePlugin_installer install' this doesn't work
but I'll go and check those extra libraries, you're right they were separated out...
"HTTPS driver for LWP::UserAgent" is installed
[15:13]
gac410the _installer script actually uses the configuration key ExtensionRepositories iirc, it doesn't use the url in the PACKAGES_URL ... did I try to fix that? [15:15]
fsfsI just commented on the issue an hour ago or so
yes it may be a local problem here, I'd be relieved if you could try installing FootNotePlugin and confirm everything works as it should
[15:15]
gac410man tough to get old. I don't remember wtf I did with PACKAGES_URL ... It doesn't look like I committed anything though in the logs :( [15:16]

FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item14208 [ Item14208: extender.pl hardcodes Foswiki.org extension repository ] [15:17]
fsfsit didn't work for me executing the _installer, and you wanted feedback from cdot [15:18]
gac410I just issued "tools/extension_installer FootNotePlugin install" and it downloaded and installed correctly.
which translated to "tools/configure -save -wizard InstallExtensions -args FootNotePlugin=Foswiki.org -args USELOCAL=1 -method add -args ENABLE=1"
Let me try to run the _installer script now too.
[15:19]
fsfsgac410: ah, no need. artefact of my workaround from that issue
$PACKAGES_URL = 'Foswiki.org' if $PACKAGES_URL eq 'http://foswiki.org/pub/Extensions'
this will not work with https obviously!
[15:20]
gac410Ah... okay [15:21]
fsfsgac410: thanks for confirming I didn't break the uploaded plugin [15:22]

................ (idle for 1h15mn)
jesuisseHey gac410, are you around? [17:22]
gac410hi jesuisse ... yup - just picked up my laptop. Good timing [17:23]
jesuisse:-) Just wanted to say thanks for pointing me in the right direction and ask what I should now do with Task Item14248. [17:23]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item14248 [ Item14248: Create OpenID Login Manager to authenticate with MS, Google etc ] [17:23]
gac410sure... glad to see more contributors, so thanks for your work too!
Looks like you did get BuildContrib working - at least the upload seemed to go okay.
[17:24]
jesuisseYes. Wasn't sure about the DEPENDENCIES, the build script produced errors...
so I wrote them by hand and don't know if I got them right. :-(
[17:24]
gac410I'll take a look
But from my pseudo-install test, it did seem to report missing deps okay
[17:25]
jesuisseWell, I haven't been writing Perl for about ten years, so I'm a bit rusted...
... and I didn't know whether things like JSON and Mime::Base64 came with perl or were extra dependencies.
[17:25]
gac410JSON definitely is not part of core perl. Handy tool corelist
FoswikiBot: corelist Mime::Base64
[17:26]
FoswikiBotgac410: Mime::Base64 is not in the core [17:27]
jesuisseOk, so it seems like I got it right by accident ;-) [17:27]
gac410Note that if you need https: support in LWP, there is a 2nd dependency LWP::Protocol::https
upstream split them apart a while ago
[17:28]
jesuisseOkay, so I should add this. Saw later on that the Foswiki API provides URL fetching, too, so I might be able to get rid of that LWP dependency? [17:29]
gac410No, we are going to remove the native URL fetching part of Foswiki::Net, so LWP will be needed there too. [17:29]
FoswikiBothttps://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Net [17:30]
jesuisseHmmm. So I'll leave it in and add LWP:Protocol::HTTPS to my dependency file. [17:30]
gac410Too many sites now need https, and the non-LWP implementation in Foswiki::Net can't handle redirect. But it uses LWP if available so that's the solution [17:30]
jesuisseOoops. Got some more questions to ask you, but my wife is calling for dinner and the kids are hollering - sorry, gotta go! [17:31]
gac410That's the best bet. It doesn't make sense for Foswiki to reinvent code. LWP is solid. [17:31]
jesuisseright re reinventing the wheel... [17:31]
gac410Okay. Just ask away anytime. I usually check the logs, and will answer for the logs as well. [17:31]
