gac410gac410 wonders if we ought to use something like http://realfavicongenerator.net/ to build the platform specific icons - seems to do a nice job. Covers everything including "pinning" on windows platforms [02:17]

foswiki_irc3Hi, is anyone available?
Does foswiki have 'edit section' buttons?
[12:56]
hello? [13:10]
.... (idle for 17mn)
***ChanServ sets mode: +o gac410 [13:27]
zak256Doesn't there appear a pentil icon next to headlines if you move the mouse there? At least in newer Foswiki versions? [13:27]
gac410That's an optional extension [13:28]
foswiki_irc3there is a pencil icon but the editor is not a wysiwig editor [13:28]
gac410y thats a documented restriction with the EditChapterPlugin - it does not work with the Wysiwyg editor [13:30]
foswiki_irc3is there anyway to edit a section? [13:31]
zak256yes, with the mentioned EditChapterPlugin, but not using wysiwig [13:31]
gac410The EditChapterPlugin lets you edit sections - but it uses the wiki text editor, not wysiwyg [13:31]
foswiki_irc3Okay, I was hoping there would be a way to edit sections using wysiwig
for some reason the oembed plugin isn't working for me
[13:37]
gac410I'm not familiar with that one. [13:39]
foswiki_irc3when I try inserting %EMBED{"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8e8Ttfz-pY" width="600"}% into the editor, it just shows the link on the page and nothing else [13:46]
.... (idle for 15mn)
any ideas? [14:01]
gac410The person who wrote that plugin - MichaelDaum - isn't around right now.
The plugin makes outbound connections - if your server security is blocking things it might cause issues.
[14:02]
foswiki_irc3how would I check that? [14:05]
gac410What is your server running? [14:06]
foswiki_irc3apache [14:06]
FoswikiBotapache is a pain to configure, and .htaccess files are even harder. :( [14:06]
gac410FoswikiBot: forget apache [14:06]
FoswikiBotgac410: I forgot about apache. [14:06]
gac410foswiki_irc3: I meant OS - centos, ubuntu, ... [14:06]
foswiki_irc3we talked the other day, I'm using arch linux [14:07]
uebera||foswiki_irc3: If you're using chrome, you should check whether scripts/requests are blocked on client side as well due to some policies. [14:09]
gac410ah. can't really tell from the anonymous irc names. Anyway, it would probably also block the extensions installer. Things like selinux, and apparmor I don't know if arch linux has them by default [14:10]
foswiki_irc3I'm using firefox, but I have the same problem in chrome
I don't think I have any security services running

foswiki_irc3_Hey all a newbie here I was editing a document (trying to add a table) and all the sudden I get a 404 message with this Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu) Server at wiki.247spotcooler.com Port 443
Any ideas?
[15:45]
uebera||What does the server log say? [15:50]
foswiki_irc3_Thanks for getting back with me the only other information I see is-The requested URL /Home/WebHome was not found on this server.
if that is not what you are asking for let me know where to look and I will
[15:54]
uebera||Hm... were you editing WebHome then? If you have access to the server, you could check whether <foswiki-base-directory>/data/Home/WebHome.txt* really is gone. If you managed to delete it using the client (web browser), you should be able to locate it in the Trash web. [16:08]
............ (idle for 56mn)
zak256In our old foswiki 1.1.2 the search syntax topic="something.*" worked, but in the latest version it has to be topic="something*".
Is there an explanation for this? Just so I can tell the superiors why that doesn't work anymore...
Because right now I am checking every single search in our wiki, so it can be migrated sometime.
(and there are A LOT of searches!)
[17:04]
gac410I'd guess it was a bug in the old foswiki. topic=" " is documented as only supporting "A topic, a topic with asterisk wildcards, or a list of topics separated by comma. " [17:08]
zak256Okay, so it was never intended to support regex there? [17:08]
gac410no never. Strictly a list with * wildcard. [17:09]
zak256Ok. [17:09]
gac410Just checked 1.1.2 documentation - same statement. [17:10]
zak256Alright, thanks. That happens if the first guy does it wrong, and all others just copy&paste a search and modify it. :-(
...and nobody reads the doc.
[17:11]
gac410yeah I've seen it before - even in our own docs
note that excludetopic= has the same restriction.
[17:11]
zak256Yes, I thought that, and modify this as well.
Many of our searches even use type="regex" even if it is only a simple topic search.
Just using the biggest hammer for everything :-P
[17:14]
gac410that *might* make it a bit more reliable match. search "." type=regex topic=blah* will find every blah* topic. search "." topic="blah*" has a possibility of not matching if there is no . in the topic. [17:17]
zak256usually there is something written like (.*TOPICPARENT.*name="%BASETOPIC%".*|.*name="Affiliated".*%BASETOPIC%.* .... and it goes on like that... [17:18]
gac410depending on how old foswiki/twiki was originally installed, there is a lot of older search that have much nicer ways with the new query search. [17:19]
zak256ah, okay, if the query search was not existent back then, that would explain this. [17:20]

LynnwoodHowdy folks - A user in requesting immediate notifications on topic changes. I'm reviewing NotificationPlugin and ImmediateNotifyPlugin. Any opinions on which is better?
I see ImmediateNotifyPlugin got some attention a few years back (2010). The released version of NotificationPlugin is a bit newer (2012) but has some reported issues (which look like they can be fixed).
[18:16]
gac410Hi Lynnwood I suspect both have a lot of bitrot. I was trying to upgrade ImmediateNotify at one point, But got sidetracked and lost interest. I think that there is a version in testing that is a bit more functional. [18:17]
Lynnwoody i'm anticipating issue. maybe i can give them some attention if i can get them working. [18:18]
gac410I was trying to merge a bunch of notify plugins into one with ImmediateNotify ... Tweet on save, etc.
But didn't get very far.
[18:18]
Lynnwoodright...
all that's being requested right now is emails
[18:18]
gac410Lynnwood: cdot ... have you ever looked at where favicon has evolved. realfavicongenerator.net can generate all of the various flavors that the browsers use.
http://realfavicongenerator.net/favicon_checker?protocol=https&site=foswiki.org#.WHfICGeytGk
[18:20]
cdotnope, never got involved with that. Interesting. [18:21]
Lynnwoodpretty cool... [18:21]
gac410y. It also generates the config files that windows needs to pin a web site into the task bars, etc.
Pass it a large favicon png, and it generates all the variations, including the config files in one handy zip package.
ages ago I tried changing our favicon to our stylized O, and Michael immediately reverted it. :( I find our "F" rather boring. I was wondering about merging the two... F inside the circle .. (F) and then see what the generator does to it.
[18:22]
...................... (idle for 1h49mn)
Lynnwoodgac410 - well, I'm sorry to report that I can't get either plugin to work... [20:15]
gac410I have not tried either in a very long time. Definitely before 2.0, More bit-rot :( [20:16]
LynnwoodI worked awhile on the NotificationPlugin and solved some js errros, but couldn't get the notification link to work
On the other, I did everything... but no result.
can't find any errors on saving a topic or anything.
[20:16]
gac410did you try the version in Extensions/Testing? [20:17]
Lynnwoodnothing in debug
yes
would the copy in git be any newer?
[20:17]
gac410No idea then. It was a long time ago :(
I don't think so.
[20:17]
LynnwoodDo you remember: is it simply suppose to send out email after topic is saved? No cron jobs or anything? [20:18]
gac410Yes. The big reason for it at least for email is for sites where cron is not a possibility [20:19]
Lynnwoodok [20:19]
gac410Looks like in the git commits, I had been starting on trying to add the twitter code. It was such a long time ago.
Really all of the notify stuff should use a database. Big notification lists get terribly out of control Our tasks web certainly challenges it.
[20:19]
..... (idle for 21mn)
Lynnwoodgac410 - I went back one more time to try NotifyPlugin and I've got the script being called. Now I've got this error:
Undefined subroutine &Foswiki::initialize called at /var/www/foswiki/bin/changenotify line 22.
I'm wondering if I just need to change the reference for Foswiki::initialize
ok, i see here: Tasks.Item1174
[20:42]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item1174 [ Item1174: Convert GenPDFAddOn to Plugin and add macro support. ] [20:43]
LynnwoodEliminate call to Foswiki::initialize - Deprecated, and removed from trunk for next major release
that's the only reference i find in Tasks
[20:43]
gac410where does bin/changenotify come from? Neither NotificationPlugin or ImmediateNotifyPlugin ship a bin script [20:44]
Lynnwoodthis is true, but the links that it creates references bin/changenotify, so I just tried moving it there.
:-)
[20:45]
gac410ah... tools/changenotify [20:46]
***ChanServ sets mode: +o Lynnwood [20:48]
Lynnwoodsorry about that. my irc client failed me [20:49]
gac410np
It looks like this one would need a lot of work. The script needs to be rewritten to use the Foswiki engine
[20:49]
Lynnwoodok. i also added apache config item so it bypassed fcgi
Guess i'll admit defeat for now... this doen't happen much...
[20:50]
gac410If they really don't need immediate immediate, you might use a much shorter interval on the cron timers for running the mailnotify [20:52]
LynnwoodI did think about that (and even proposed it). The problem was that the cron job could not specify the web so it would notify everyone who's signed up for that web.
sorry... the cron job could _only_ specify the entire web.
I couldn't see how to only send out notifications for specific users or topics on more frequent schedule.
[20:57]
gac410y, the more frequent notifications might be annoying.
:D
[20:58]
..... (idle for 23mn)
FoswikiOnSlack<casey> why does it say everyone's a bot here? [21:22]
gac410You are probably seeing all of us on irc [21:23]
FoswikiOnSlack<casey> so this is actually an IRC server not Slack natively?
<casey> interesting :slightly_smiling_face:
[21:23]
gac410Messages on slack echo onto the IRC channel and I assume everything we say echos there. The #foswiki channel has been around for a very long time
If you have not seen this one .. I guess that's the situation for some of us oldtimers http://xkcd.com/1782/
[21:24]
guytronIs there a way to delete a web? it seems like the only way is to remove all the topics from it :S [21:35]
gac410I think you can move it to trash ... Let me look a bit.
At the bottom of the WebPreferences topic for the web is a link to "Rename, move or delete this web"
You can move the web to the trash web
[21:36]
guytronOdd, but fine! thanks. [21:40]
