somedudeIs there a doc on writing tests for plugins/addons?
Also, http://foswiki.org is a 500
so I guess the httpsredirect plugin isn't doing its thing
[12:36]
..... (idle for 21mn)
uebera||somedude: http[s]://foswiki.org works for me--can you retry?
(there's no automatic redirect in place yet)
somedude: Regarding your question, see https://foswiki.org/Development/WebHome (https://foswiki.org/Development/ExtensionDeveloperGuide)

somedudeuebera||: seems chill again, the 500 is gone
Found Development/UnitTests
is it trustworthy still?
[13:07]
uebera||to my knowledge, yes; but your best bet would be to directly ask gac410, cdot, MichaelDaum when they are around in case of doubt. [13:14]
.... (idle for 19mn)
jesuisseBest-practice question: It looks like when developing extensions, skins and so on, static files such as javascript, stylesheets, images etc should live under pub/System/<ExtensionTopic>. Is there a reason why it's done like that? I'm tempted to put static files I only use on my own installation under a /static/-directory path, where I can use the third-party library's directory layout without going against the grain of Foswiki's "flat" name [13:33]
uebera||The main reason that comes to mind is that this way it's very easy to identify what belongs to an extension in one place, the System web (w/o consulting a list file/the extension description) and the files in question can be addressed this way. If you were to introduce /static outside of /pub, you cannot address these files unless you define (web server) aliases/links (on the filesystem). [13:40]
jesuissethat would be the point - I'd want these files to be served directly by the webserver. I'm doing that anyway for /pub/System/ attachments for efficiency reasons - don't want to go through Foswiki for that...
I'm mostly curious whether the convention to store under /pub/System might have something to do with having version control on these files, e.g. something that might be relevant when updating from one version to the next, or some such reason...
[13:41]
uebera||It's possible, of course.
Version control applies to files you modify in a way Foswiki knows about it (editing/installing using the UI or the CLI interfaces). Using links/aliases should be transparent (the latter don't work using the CLI, of course).
[13:44]
jesuisseBut isn't there an option in the manifest file to determine whether or not to create a new version for files under data/ and pub/ ? [13:47]
uebera||That I don't know, sorry; your best bet would be to ask gac410, cdot, MichaelDaum when they are around. [13:50]
jesuisseok. Thanks for your input, though. [13:50]

somedudeThe workflow seems somewhat troublesome, I can't commit without an issue, and I can't create an issue for a security fix without mailing a list ... [15:49]
gac410somedude: If you set a task to "security" it will automatically get ACLs that limit visibility to the original reporter, and our SecurityLIst. [15:50]
somedudeHow? [15:51]
FoswikiBotHow are you triggering an error. If I browse to mysite.com/ it seems to work fine [15:51]

FoswikiBotgac410: I forgot about how. [15:51]
somedudelol, robots. [15:51]
gac410somedude: Create a new task. Under "Priority" drop-down, there is a "security" priority. That should auto-protect the task. [15:51]
somedudeThe coices are .*, Engine, Extension, Web site.
oh, there's a Form tab, i see
It asks for an svn range, that might need some attention
[15:52]
gac410You can send me a private message if you want to discuss a security issue.
Ignore the SVN range. That is obsolete - from the days of the SVN repository.
Is this for foswiki core / default extensions? we will be building 2.1.3 beta2 soon ... I really hope I'd hold the release for security issues.

somedude: ... Did you get a task saved yet?
Actually the javascript change fixes the Extension installer report, Save is still broken :(
