[02:20]
gac410Well Lynnwood__, I fixed the two configure issues you found - Crash with GlobalReplace plugin, and Missed update for PublishPlugin [02:20]
Lynnwood__very nice! [02:23]
gac410Still have no idea why your install didn't update the topic .... It worked fine here. I downloaded the old PublishPlugin, installed, and then upgraded no problem
If you figure that one out you'll be a hero!
[02:24]
Lynnwood__i'm wondering if perhaps file permission on the topic was off such that it couldn't be overwritten. [02:25]
gac410I think that should fail. But really I have no idea. Linux server? When we hit it on foswiki.org it was back when we were on bsd
I at one point thought it was an RCS / checkin issue, but deleted the ,v file and it still wouldnt update on f.o.
CDot looked at it for quite a while too and could not come up with the issue
[02:26]
Lynnwood__As far as I could tell configure (or the install script) leaves no record of the action of installing the individual file. It simply reports that a certain number were installed. [02:29]
gac410There is a verbose mode where it reports more detail. I don't remember how to enable it. [02:30]
Lynnwood__Yes, this is a linux server (debian) [02:31]
gac410If the file is not writiable, it should fail:
                   $reporter->ERROR("Target $file is not writable");
It used to be a lot noisier, reporting every copied / checked in file. But there were complaints that it was too noisy
It was a couple of years ago, the last time this happened, It also failed from the shell installer. So iirc I even ran it under the perl debugger with no clues.

....... (idle for 34mn)
Lynnwood__gac410 - the topic history for the installed topics for PublishPlugin is interesting. rev 1 is actually the correct (recent published version). However, a few minutes later, it _reverts_ to the earlier version - even though i'm not editing the topic. [03:15]
gac410Interesting. This sounds like the store has decided not to trust the cached txt version and pulls up the last from history.
That would be a good one for CDot to ponder.
Is this a fcgi system?
[03:16]
Lynnwood__but strangely... there was no prior history (at least that is visible now)
yes is is
although... i think i have configure run as plain cgi
[03:18]
gac410I don't know store internals that well. But this sounds like something down deep in store.
configure doesn't matter. The actual work is done by JsonRpc
[03:19]
Lynnwood__I was not even viewing these topics. The only thing interacting with them was the install script. [03:20]
gac410configure just puts up a basic frame. javascript populates the panels, and actions post to jsonrpc
No reason at all to make configure cgi.
[03:20]
Lynnwood__Let me clarify (as least as much as I can remember). I think i ran the install and then looked at the topic and noticed that it wasn't the right version. So then I went back and went through the install process again. [03:21]
gac410This sounds like the sort of experience we were having on foswiki.org It's a really strange deep issue.
But if there is no rcs,v history, this is even stranger.
[03:22]
Lynnwood__So I did look at the plugin topic. However, there are two other topics installed in System web. I did not look at either of them until recently and the history of them shows the same pattern - i.e. rev 1 is the correct content but then rev 2 is the old version.
there is no rcs,v history
The only place that earlier content _could_have been held was in fcgi
[03:23]
gac410How is there a rev 1 and rev 2 then. [03:24]
Lynnwood__it plain file history. [03:25]
gac410Ah... plain file store. [03:25]
Lynnwood__but as I say, rev 1 was the correct content but then rev 2 is the old pre-install content. [03:25]
gac410i don't use PFS very often, though my test system I just tried to reproduce the issue on is indeed the default PFS [03:26]
Lynnwood__assuming the install script removed any history, the older pre-install content should not have been in the system at all. [03:27]
gac410But it's not FCGI. It does sound like something is being cached when it sholdn't be. I didnt' think we ever cached topics, except for the InfoCache / MetaCache that are used internal to search. and that is only per transaction. [03:27]
Lynnwood__The only place i figure it could be would be fcgi... [03:27]
gac410The install script used to test for rcs,v files. and cdot commented that out iirc.
if rcs,v existed, it did a checkin, otherwise it just copied in the file.
[03:28]
Lynnwood__DbCachePlugin has a "MemoryCache" preference setting.
I'm not sure, but I think that may be of topic content.
[03:29]
gac410Not familiar with that one at all.
installer does check for ,v or ,pvf to decide whether to checkin or copy.
[03:29]
Lynnwood__well... got to head to bed. [03:31]
gac410acutally it's pretty inconsistent in its checking. but this is too big to tackle for 2.1.3 imo.. Goodnight. [03:32]
