[15:45]
jastdang, I was about to port everything to Ruby [15:49]
gac410Go for it. Just use a testing branch :D [15:49]

cobra_koralHello guys
seems like foswiki.org site is having problems
I can't login, and the overall site is very slow, sometimes it doesn't respond
[16:22]
uebera||cobra_koral: According to the service provider, multiple uplinks had problems; it should work again now. [16:35]
cobra_koralyes it is very fast now thanks
but I still can't login
[16:36]
uebera||Login works for me. Can you check whether getting rid of cookies solves your problem? Did you verify that your password is correct? [16:37]
gac410Login working for me as well.
According to the events log, you are authenticating correctly. But I don't see any other logins from you this year. Please delete all domain cookies for *.foswiki.org and try again. We changed our cookie domain in January.
(Changed it so our blog.foswiki.org and foswiki.org sites could use the same authentication)
[16:37]
.... (idle for 17mn)
cobra_koralgac410: that worked!! thanks a lot!
uebera||: thanks!!
[16:58]
uebera||yw! [16:59]
gac410yw
MichaelDaum: uebera|| and I were talking in the admin channel. .. wondering if some js on our login screen could delete the stale cookies with the wrong domains
Any cookie with a domain other than ".foswiki.org" ie without the leading dot, or cookes for blog.foswiki.org
Found one hint here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/179355/clearing-all-cookies-with-javascript but seems to be questionable. ah well cu later. away_ ...
[17:01]
cobra_koralguys, I don't know how the tasks/issues on the project work, but I think these two questions can be closed

gac410Okay ... I'll take a look. thanks [17:08]
cobra_koralthank you [17:08]
gac410Tasks / questions closed. Thanks for pointing them out. [17:10]

Guys, one more doubt, wikiname cannot contain spaces, but what about underline _ ?
[17:20]
gac410Underline is a bit tricky, as it is also used internally to represent _xx hex values. So Wikiname of Joe_Actor would be looked at as a hex "AC" in some situations.
So in theory an _ should be encoded as well as it's _xx hex. But there lurk some dragons there :(
Best is to avoid
[17:22]
cobra_koralbest to avoid, you convinced me
but, I really would like to have wikinames something like Firstname.Lastname instead of FirstnameMiddlenameLastname
Can I use . in wikinames ?
[17:28]
gac410No definitely not. (dot) is the Web.Topic separator. That would confuse things for sure. Foswiki would look for the Firstname webname
The advantage of sticking with the recommended syntax is that name that are "WikiWords" will automatically link in topics.
[17:30]
cobra_koralI see, oh well
in this case it is really better to stay with the recommended syntax
I will just have to get used to reading long full names without space
[17:31]
gac410no real need for the Middlename unless needed to keep unique. hm, though you are using ldap, not sure how that all works - overriding names [17:34]
cobra_koralyes I thought of stripping it, but the organization is kind of middle size, and I fear clashes of users with same first name and last name ...
so maybe it is better to leave the middle name to avoid this clashes. I haven't figured out a user was a "wikiword" itself and a page itself, I am new to wiki technologies
[17:34]
gac410The Foswiki:Extensions.NewUserPlugin will auto-populate a user topic when new users first connect, Gives them a place to store user specific settings - disabling wysiwyg for ex, [17:37]

sahilsinha_java plugin support is going away - is there a replacement for the JHotDrawPlugin? [20:11]
....... (idle for 34mn)
gac410sahilsinha_: Unfortunately no, nobody has come forward to volunteer to write a replacement.
WikiDrawPlugin uses svgedit but that one is broken on recent foswiki as well - needs an incompatible jquery.
[20:45]
........... (idle for 51mn)
sahilsinha_gac410: my pearl is a bit shaky but I can either attempt or incent someone financially if anyone would be open to that
perl
[21:37]
FoswikiBotperl is at 100% [21:37]
sahilsinha_see! [21:37]
gac410We certainly welcome contributors. Unfortunately with the demise of java in the browser, the JHotDraw plugin would really require a full rewrite I expect. [21:38]
sahilsinha_gac410: my thinking was to start with the WikiDraw plugin [21:39]
gac410y, that one would be easier for sure. I was trying to look at it. I upgraded the svgedit component to the latest but was having trouble reconciling all of the javascript dependencies [21:39]
sahilsinha_ditto!
gac410: i'm not sure of my OWN ability to resolve
[21:39]
gac410Unfortunately the original developer was asked if he would accept some sponsored development and he didn't have time [21:41]
sahilsinha_i see
hmm
[21:41]
gac410At least that's what I was told 3-rd hand. not speaking for Sven directly. [21:41]
sahilsinha_if there is anyone willing to take a shot i'd gladly contribute monetarily
or i can try my own hand at it but that would most likely be an excercise in futility
[21:41]
gac410gac410 looked a it and got quickly lost. I'm pretty good with perl, but I'm pretty weak with javascript. I decided I was approaching futility myself :D [21:42]
sahilsinha_haha
is there anyone else who might be open to the idea?
[21:42]
gac410I suppose I ought to check in my changes into a test branch on github. Just so others could fiddle with it as well. [21:42]
sahilsinha_id love to take a look/crack if you do [21:43]
gac410Don't really know tbh. The list of consultants is long, but not sure how many are willing/able to do extension development. [21:43]
sahilsinha_im on the list of consultants ;p [21:43]
gac410gac410 will check in his changes later ... now to go run the snowblower for a bit before it gets dark. [21:43]
sahilsinha_good luck
post link in here please
stay warm!
[21:44]
gac410Will do. Thanks. [21:44]

GithubBot[WikiDrawPlugin] gac410 created Item12045 (+1 new commit): https://git.io/vDgBy

gac410sahilsinha_: Just pushed ... It's no where near working at all.
Created Item12045 branch so it doesn't touch the master code until it's working. tbh, I don't have much of a clue with this.
I suspect that a lot of the code to deal with the JQuery version just needs to be removed. At it's original release, foswiki was on a very old jq version.
