FoswikiOnSlack1<svendowideit> I have a need to a project and product mgmt tool like the one I built in 2001 - using twiki
<svendowideit> but this time, using github, zendesk, twitter, slack and irc as backends.
<svendowideit> The big pain point I didn't have back then, is the need to use a different markup language for the backends, TML and database style fields were sufficient
<svendowideit> but, I thought I'd ask in case there were many more options than when I last foswiki'd
<svendowideit> its horrifying explaining what TWiki/Foswiki can/could do almost 20 years ago, compared to what's out there now

foswiki_irc6Hi, it's the windows server guy again. I wound up getting to the last steps of the Windows Apache guide and there were some weird things happening, but I do have the main screen now where it's running in bootstrap mode
So after I created the config file it told me to paste it in the foswiki.conf. I didn't have one in the directory it said, so I created a new file and saved it as such. It then wanted me to go to configure.pl, but none of those files have a .pl extension, is that normal? I added the .pl manually but going to that page just gives me this result

That's what I get when I try to go to foswiki/bin/configure.pl
[15:02]
.... (idle for 15mn)
I renamed all the files that didn't have an extension so they now have a .pl and it seems to be displaying properly now. Is that normal?
Before: http://imgur.com/TNI9O3u
After: http://imgur.com/tO1bLEp
[15:17]
gac410Yes, if you had to rename any of the script files to a .pl extension. Your first screenshot (with the pink error box in the upper right) was probably due to jsonrpc script not renamed to jsonrpc.pl
meant to say. If you had to rename any, then all should be renamed.
Except for LocalLib and setlib, which you did skip.
[15:20]
foswiki_irc6Ok thanks. Looking into the Safe PATH section now, will try searching on it as I don't know what it is [15:26]
gac410Thats just the list of directories where foswiki searches for executable code.
If foswiki is working without setting it, probably leave it alone. Just a warning for good practice.
[15:27]
foswiki_irc6Ok, I'll leave that one alone. The login section says "There are one or more *auth scripts found in C:/www/foswiki/bin that are missing from {AuthScripts}. For best security, any script ending in "auth" should be included in the list of {AuthScripts}. " but everything in there is included in the scripts list so I'm not sure what I'm missing [15:34]
gac410Ah... I
I'll bet the code doesn't acount for the .pl extension. :(
Another one that's probably one you can ignore
[15:35]
foswiki_irc6Alrighty, thanks. Onto the next sections then [15:37]
gac410foswiki_irc6: Regarding SafeEnvPath. The warning says in part "...the PATH used will be taken from the PATH environment variable: " [and lists the current path] So the way to set that is to review the listed contents
If there is stuff in the path that you don't want - remove them from the string and set that into the variable. The "... more" link has some hints on the required windows syntax.
[15:44]
jmk0Have the %META% tags in topic files been updated beyond format 1.1 / version 1 at this point?
I haven't looked beyong 1.1.9 at this point
[15:48]
foswiki_irc6I'm not really sure what I should and shouldn't want it to have access to so I may just leave it be for now in case I take something away it needs [15:49]
gac410jmk0: No the format of the topic meta has not changed in a very long time iirc. [15:51]
jmk0k, thanks [15:51]
gac410iirc the last time that changed was actually back in twiki days [15:52]
jmk0:) [15:52]
foswiki_irc6Now for the really stupid question, since I have this all set up and running on the server that I remote into, how do I make it accessible outside of the server so I can just sign in from my main PC? [16:06]
gac410ugh. That's outside my expertise. You need your hostname published in your local dns I guess, or go by ip address. Check your server firewall, make sure port 80 isn't blocked. beyond that... need to ask someone who knows windows. [16:09]
jastthat's the gist of it, pretty much
at least on desktop version of windows, server processes are blocked by the windows firewall by default. I'm not sure how it works with the server versions of windows.
[16:10]
foswiki_irc6Ok, no problem. I will ask around in the office, servers in general are out of my expertise as you can see [16:14]
jastcan't know it all :) [16:15]
foswiki_irc6I appreciate all the help though, I never would have gotten this far without it. I'm sure I'll be hanging around here for awhile with some more questions :) [16:15]

cdotgac410: when I'm doing a "perl build.pl upload" I get a lot of Use of uninitialized value $val in pattern match (m//) at /usr/share/perl5/HTTP/Cookies.pm line 123. [17:30]
gac410I've not seen that before. [17:31]
cdotthink everything is up to date. I use debian packages, rather than CPAN, for perl wherever possible [17:31]
gac410Y, I usually run with the debs, but do have perlbrew which i switch around all over the place. Is the upload working? I was able to upload all the 2.1.3 extensions okay
Are you uploading to f.o, or t.f.o ?
[17:32]
cdotno, but not for that reason. It's giving me a 401... username and pw correct :-(
releasing to f.o
[17:33]
gac410well either f.o or t.f.o can be used. Same Extensions web ;) [17:34]
cdotright now it's not working [17:34]
gac410hm other things. is the build.pl script in the extension up to date? I've had trouble with some very old versions. Copied one from the core extensions to update it. [17:35]
cdotit's one of mine, so probably. But I'll check.
y, looks OK
[17:36]
gac410EditRowPlugin was one that I could not upload without fixing the build.pl Commit 13c187ea312a97916f8cc9044e3614580a6dd18f
Stuff like build->{UPLOADTARGETWEB} = 'Extensions'; .... all had to go.
What are you trying to upload - DBIStoreContrib? I can pull and try it to Extensions/Testing if you want, see if I get the same issue.
[17:37]
cdotall you did was to remove the overrides on the upload target
otherwise it's identical AFAICT
[17:41]
gac410I tried and tried to upload ERP after 2.1.3 and it would always fail. In desparation I copied a different ext. build.pl and then it worked fine.
Didn't figure out why, but I had tons of stuff remaining to do - vmware image, etc. so didn't argue with success :D
[17:42]
cdotWTF? that shouldn't make any difference, but it does
like you, I don't have time to work out why :-(
[17:42]
gac410yup. That was my conclusion. [17:43]

vrurggac410: Are you here? [23:53]
gac410yup
what's up?
[23:53]
vrurgWanna ask what format would you prefer for expanding config values.
As there must be no more global %Foswiki::cfg and the new specs would work differenetly.
[23:54]
gac410hm So you mean when a config variable references another variable? eg. $Foswiki::cfg{Htpasswd}{FileName} = '$Foswiki::cfg{DataDir}/.htpasswd'; [23:55]
vrurgSo, I'm looking for what would replace the current $Foswiki::cfg{Key}{SubKey}
Gimme a min, I'm finishing. :)
Last note: the new specs prefer referring to config values with Key.SubKey.SubKey2 format as a shorter one.
So, finally, if there is a config string including reference to another key (right) I consider it to be in following formats:
"This string includes ${Key.SubKey}"
or:
"This string includes %Key.SubKey%"
[23:55]
gac410I'm thinking the former, as % in syntax might suggest it's a macro, which it is no. Where as $ is used for tokens, so ${...} sounds reasonable.
Does that make sense?
