cdotI have two sites, one of which is a clone of the other. Other than changing the apache conf and paths in LocalSIte.cfg, they are identical. LDAP login works fine on the original site, but on the clone it keeps bouncing me back to the login screen, with no explanation I can find in the logs. Any ideas? The apache config of the clone is open (does not require any form of login).
oh, and the original site is using fcgi, but the clone is plain cgi
[13:14]
the ldap cache in the clone is binary-identical to the cache on the original site [13:22]
vrurgcdot: Hi, btw, would it be possible for you to review the latests commit on Item14348? [13:34]
FoswikiBothttps://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item14348 [ Item14348: The allow_* method of access control is a complete pain in the ass. ] [13:34]
gac410cdot ... Do you somehow have a cookie conflict? [13:36]
cdotvrurg: kinda up to my ears at the moment, but if it's just what we discussed i.e. switching to an array, I'm sure it's fine. Your unit tests will have shown up any problems far more effectively than my time would. [13:36]
gac410Do either sites use the HttpsRedirectPlugin ... which I made some changes to recently? [13:37]
cdotvrurg: one question; why do we need DBIQueryPlugin *and* SqlPlugin?
gac410: nope
both http at the moment
[13:37]
vrurgexcept for this issue – there is no way to test the mapping without connecting to a db and the tests doesn't do it. [13:37]
gac410Any errors unable to write the cgisess files? [13:37]
cdotwell, just had one, because I ran out of disk space. Wonder if that's connected... [13:38]
vrurgHow old is SqlPlugin? I'm not sure it was there when I created mine. [13:38]
cdotcrap, too much data for PlainFile. So I'm stuck with using RCS :-(
large topics with >2000 revisions each
[13:38]
vrurgPlus, DbiQueryPlugin let running perl code which the other one most like don't. [13:38]
cdotMichaelDaum wrote SqlPlugin. It lets you run arbitrary SQL
cdot has no great preference one way or the other, would just prefer if there was only one
SqlPlugin started some time in 2010
[13:39]
vrurgDbiQuery is two years older, if memory serves me right. And I was aiming it at creating wiki apps in first place. Not only to fetch data but do some complex processing of it – with perl's help, of course. [13:44]
cdotOK. Well, there is strong overlap between the two. [13:45]
vrurgOnly in querying macros. Plus I see that mine access control system is more flexible. SqlPlugin seems to be limited to user-level control. [13:46]
gac410well only two... count your blessings. How many PDF generators are we up to? I've lost count. [13:47]
vrurgAnd when it comes to db connection – no way of defining db user for each wiki user/group individually. [13:47]
cdotI'm sure you're right. Sadly I'm not stuck with a site that has to have both installed, each with almost (but not quite) identical database configuration.
^not^now
[13:48]
vrurgAnyway, when DbiQueryPlugin was created there was no decent database access plugin whatsoever. [13:48]
cdotvrurg: can't really know why Micha created SqlPlugin without asking him. I'll leave it there. [13:49]
vrurgOuch... I see...
I guess because DbiQuery was twiki only by the time.
[13:49]
cdoty, that would probably explain it :-( [13:50]
vrurgOk, I will merge the item branch back to the master and publish the new version later this week. If the array mapping has issues one could always revert back to the hash.
Though I'll try to test it on my working setup.
[13:51]
cdotvrurg: I highly recommend writing unit tests. Far and away the best way to minimise effort in the long term. [13:53]
vrurgcdot: Sure it'd be great but for this particular piece of code rewrite is required because it's burried inside connection method and is not accessible directly.
I would have to extract it into a new sub and change the connection code. Not much work but I'm on tight schedule last few months. :(
[13:55]
cdotvrurg: why do you enforce user then group?
@maps = ( @u, @g );
you are taking control away from the configuration, for no good reason that I can see
[13:59]
vrurgSimilar to network routing – more specific goes first [14:00]
cdotif the configuration specifies an ordering - an array - you should respect that.
cdot would simply @maps = @{$connection->{usermap}}
less code, more impact :-)
[14:01]
vrurgI'll think of it. Perhaps you're right. I wanted to keep it similar to the legacy approach too. [14:04]
cdotThe specific use-case is when you have a user with multiple roles. They are admin of the DB, but want to be able to test user views. So from within the wiki, they can add/remove themselves from the group that gives them "user" access, and the ordering ensures that will pre-empt their individual superusership.
but if you always prefe the user role, they can only ever be an admin :-(
apart from that, the code looks fine.

gac410gac410 is beginning to believe that CPANContrib for a packaged set of CPAN dependencies is almost useless. and we shouldn't bother.
Without HTML::Entities available, Edit doesnt work unless Wysiwyg and NatEdit plugins are disabled. View wikitext won't work at all. CGI depends upon HTML::Entities.
And HTML::Parser is compiled modules only, no pureperl available. ;(
