WhoWhatWhen
VickiBrown@MichaelDaum & George - the NEWLINKFORMAT thing looks promicising. Now, if you could just wrap it into a much much simpler UI it would be ideal
Somehow
Set USECHILDTEMPLATETOPIC = MyTemplate
looks a lot simpler and easier top remember to me than the NEWLINKFORMAT setting posted above. ;-)
Coming back around to LDAP… Does anyone here actually use LDAP / Active Directory?
[01:03]
gac410I know that Michael does. I don't I used to ages ago on a corp twiki site b4 the fork, but not since I retired. [01:08]
VickiBrownGeorge - do you recall how you put AD groups into Wiki grouops? There are no examples and I'm perplexed. (I'm not the LDAP integrator but I'm on the front end and erm the LDAP integrator doesn;t kn ow how either) [01:09]
gac410We didn't use that part. :( We wrote our own group mapper - and it was so long ago - almost 7 years now. We created groups that were based upon entries in our corp. directory. Department numbers. Cost centers, Manger ID's etc. [01:11]
VickiBrownYeah, that's how Yahoo! did it too, iirc. All of the searches I've done tuen uop a bunch of people saying "Just ass the AD group to the WikiGroup and t magically works" but this one doesn't. :-(
add (Freudian typo? :)
[01:12]
gac410:)
I know that there are quite a few sites using ldap. Bad time to ask though - Need the European users online ... kinda late for them.
[01:13]
VickiBrownor too early. ;-)
FYI, for the benefit of the recordingbot, TWiki 6.02 still has all of those supposedly to-be-deprecated macros. ;-)
USERNAME, WIKINAME, etc
[01:16]
gac410y, I checked the svn source as well. Docs are updated now on https://trunk.foswiki.org/System/VarWIKINAME etc.
I removed all the deprecation comments. They were planned by Crawford b4fork and we don't have any history on the discussion on why to deprecate them
[01:17]
VickiBrownI'll try to wander back in before I go to bed to re-ask the LDAP question. (gah, I hate that stuff. this small company has 200 AD groups! Just put the WikiNames into the groups already. It was bad enough that I moved them out of the page and am using a very simple SEARCH for topics ending in GROUP instead.
I'm never a fan of deprecating useful variables/macros. It's not backward compatible and there's usually no need. Simplifying thew backend code is good.
[01:22]
gac410We had many 1000's of groups. Our mapper used "pseudo" topics ... DepartmentNNNNGroup where that triggered a lookup of all uids in the NNNN department. Topic didn't actually exist. [01:24]
VickiBrownSpouse has mentioned several times now a talk by Rich Hickey on "Changes", summarized here: http://blog.ezyang.com/2016/12/thoughts-about-spec-ulation-rich-hickey/ [01:24]
gac410I agree on the deprecations. I didn't understand why they would have been deprecated.
Those were particularly useful. And the PARENTTOPIC was pretty handy as well, though it's really just an alias for META{"parent" ...
[01:25]
VickiBrownInteresting way to handle groups. I like it. Wikish and yet flexible. I'm afraid that at this company most of the "groups" are actually mailing lists.
I like aliased. ;-)
They're easier to remember, type, explain to users...
[01:26]
gac410long ago I wanted to write a mapper based upon the Sympa mailing list server. Where groups == mailing lists. But never got the energy. [01:27]

VickiBrownGood morning Europe. Does anyone here use LDAP / Active Directory? I need to put AD groups into Wiki groups? There are no examples and I'm perplexed. MichaelDaum: George thought perhaps you might have some clues.
It's now very late (or very early) for me and I have to get up in 6 hours. If I get an answer, I'll thank whomever in my morning.

JulianLevensgac410: Could you update the agenda for tomorrow and add your support for Colas? [13:16]
gac410Okay. I was also thinking we could work out in advance the vote takers. I can't do it, my email server graylists which has a long delay.
done
[13:17]
JulianLevensTa
Good idea about vote takers
Mind you we probably won't need any: two members for election to two board posts and I cannot see any other issues on the agenda needing votes
[13:20]
gac410ah okay [13:25]

foswiki_irc2Dumb question, but with attachments I'm assuming you have the save the fiel you want to edit and reupload it after you make changes right? If I have an excel file attached and want to edit it I can't automatically submit changes? [15:30]
cdotfoswiki_irc2: right. You could do what you want if you were running a WebDAV server, though. See Extensions.WebDAVContrib.
or you could use MichaelDaum's excellent TopicInteractionPlugin, which supports drag-drop upload.
[15:41]
foswiki_irc2Ok, thanks. May look into that for the future
Also, when trying to create a table of contents, I use %TOC% but nothing seems to be happening. How should I format it?
Ah I think I just found more info, sorry
I thought "See varToc" was a different means of doing it
[15:44]
Actually, looks like there should be a default way of making a TOC but mine doesn't do anything, so I guess I'm still confused [15:52]
JulianLevensDoes your topic have headings?
---+ Heading1
---++ Heading2
etc
[15:54]
foswiki_irc2It did not, just saw that while I was looking at a system page that had a TOC and went into edit. Sorry, still learning as I go here [15:54]

foswiki_irc2Any idea why when I try attach a file within a topic I get this error?
" <pre>ERROR: OopsException(accessdenied/no_such_topic web=&gt;IT topic=&gt;ExcelArate params=&gt;[attach files to])</pre>"
If I attach in the main parent topic it works, but anything within there gives that error
