foswiki_irc0Hi i am facing problem in setting up foswiki on windows.
can anyone help me
[10:02]
foswiki_irc1i am facing some issue while installing on windows [10:05]
foswiki_irc0anybody there [10:07]
uebera||foswiki_irc0: A lot of people are lurking in here, so please feel free to ask away (but please provide some context/information; for longer logs excerpts, error messages please use a public pastebin service and just post the link here to prevent flooding the channel). :)
Also, http://irclogs.foswiki.org/bin/irclogger_log/foswiki allows you to search the extensive logs... chances are people faced similar problems in the past.
[10:17]
.... (idle for 15mn)
foswiki_irc1i am getting the error like this
Warning Foswiki is running in 'bootstrap' mode, which means that there is no existing configuration (LocalSite.cfg is missing or is unreadable). Before you save, you must make sure you have configured some way to log in as an admin (see 'Security and Authentication'), or you might lock yourself out from this interface. Loading ...
[10:34]
.... (idle for 19mn)
uebera||This means you should be approximately at this step, right? https://foswiki.org/System/InstallationGuide#Step_5:_Bootstrap_your_configuration (did you check https://foswiki.org/Support.InstallingOnSpecificPlatforms#Windows as well?) [10:54]
FoswikiBot[ InstallingOnSpecificPlatforms ] [10:54]
uebera||If you see the "Loading..." message, that means you clicked on the link specified in the banner? I.e., you see "Foswiki / Configure" in the browser, but it looks like it is loading forever?
(To speed things up: Which Perl are you usung, which version of Windows, did you follow Steps 1..4 of the aforementioned System.InstallationGuide?)
[10:57]
foswiki_irc0am using windows 7 and strawberry perl
yes i did all the process as mentioned in the windows installation guide
but i am not able to get what to bootstrap
i don't have any url like website to keep i am using local host.
http://localhost/Foswikin/bin/configure.pl
this is my url
now i am getting something new
Warning Foswiki is running in 'bootstrap' mode, which means that there is no existing configuration (LocalSite.cfg is missing or is unreadable). Before you save, you must make sure you have configured some way to log in as an admin (see 'Security and Authentication'), or you might lock yourself out from this interface.
Loading ... If you are seeing this message, javascript may be blocked or failing to load. Verify that:
[11:02]
foswiki_irc1pub files are reachable and that the path is correct. (Current path is /pub) Hint: Is the Foswiki logo displayed above? javascript execution is enabled in the browser, and not blocked by a script blocker there are no javascript errors that are preventing execution, and if pub files require authentication to access, authenticate and try again. [11:07]
uebera||The "configure.pl" looks odd... normally, it should be "http://localhost/Foswikin/bin/configure". As the documentation says, don't try to call this directly, try "http://localhost/Foswikin/bin/view" or the like first (see step 5.1) [11:12]
foswiki_irc1ok let me see
it is showing something like this is new installation you need to configure, but when i click on configure it's going in wrong path
[11:17]
uebera||Another interesting detail would be which webserver you're using. [11:21]
foswiki_irc1iis [11:22]
uebera||Ugh. AFAIK, we don't have a current configuration example (and it's been years that I touched IIS myself).
Is there a possibility to (temporarily) switch to Apache for which we have https://foswiki.org/Support.ApacheConfigGenerator ?
Once that works, you could switch back and test this back-to-back.
[11:23]
foswiki_irc9i was disconnected earlier
i am using iis webserver
[11:26]
uebera||[12.04.17 13:23:23] <uebera||> Ugh. AFAIK, we don't have a current configuration example (and it's been years that I touched IIS myself).

[11:27]
foswiki_irc9yes i have apache
but how to config
[11:28]
uebera||https://foswiki.org/Support.ApacheConfigGenerator and https://foswiki.org/Support/ApacheConfigGeneratorHelp should help to get you started. [11:29]
foswiki_irc9i don't have any website
can i do it in local host
[11:32]
uebera||yes. As it says, leave the "Host Name" field blank
NB, it also says "Windows Users: enter all file paths using linux forward-slash style, like C:/www/foswiki" <-- make sure to only apply this to *file* path, there's a field called "URL Path" where you mustn't prepend the drive letter.
[11:33]
foswiki_irc9file created foswiki.conf but where do i paste it
i am new to apache just installed apache where to copy these foswiki files to run
[11:48]
uebera||This depends on how you installed Apache2. Normally, if Apache is up and running on localhost, http://localhost should at least show "It works!" -- sometimes, instead of this message, you also get to see a more detailed info page showing how to configure it. [11:51]
foswiki_irc9my local host is like localhost:8080 for tomcat [11:55]
uebera||You should be able to locate a file called "apache2.conf" on your file system; usually, nowadays, there's a subdirectory called "sites-enabled" where you would store the generated configuration.
NB apache2 and tomcat are independent, though you can access the latter through the former.
[11:56]
foswiki_irc9let me check
no use
any site to download apache
[11:58]
uebera||Your best bet --> https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/platform/windows.html
(unless you use Cygwin or the like already and want to minimise the number of different "installation sources")
[12:00]
foswiki_irc9i cant find apache2.conf [12:07]
uebera||After installing Apache2 (the web server)?
Which installer did you choose?
[12:08]
foswiki_irc9there is no installation file this has given C:\Users\rajender\Downloads\httpd-2.4.25-win64-VC14\Apache24
i got the folder like this
[12:09]
uebera||Who provided you with that folder? Looks like it came from here https://www.apachelounge.com/download/ [12:11]
foswiki_irc9yes
in this there is no apache2.conf file
[12:11]
uebera||Right, it uses a slightly different layout. First, you need to make sure that you have the required vc_redist libaries installed (mentioned on top of the page).
Afterwards, the README.txt should give some information. There's a file called Apache24/conf/httpd.conf which contains a number of "Include" directives.
Here, you can add an additional line "Include conf/extra/foswiki.conf"
[12:15]
(I'll be AFK for a couple of hours; should foswiki_irc* return, he might have lost the history so someone could point him to http://irclogs.foswiki.org/bin/irclogger_log/foswiki again.) [12:25]
.... (idle for 19mn)
***ChanServ sets mode: +o Lynnwood [12:44]
cdotuebera||: for future reference, you might have been better to point them at lighttpd
it's quite a lot easier to set up on windows than apache.
[12:55]

............... (idle for 1h14mn)
uebera||cdot: I keep that in mind, thanks. Is https://foswiki.org/Support/LighttpdBestPractice usable out of the box still? (I've never used lighttpd, so it'd be difficult to track down problems. Apache2 on Windows is not rocket science (anymore?)...) [14:24]
cdotTBH I'm not sure - it's a while since I set it up. IIRC I ignored that support article, because it was far more complicated than it needed to be.
there's probably a case for a "The Minimum You Need To Do" FAQ on it.
[14:26]
gac410tools/lighttpd.pl works pretty well for a quick test, at least on linux [14:28]
