zak256Hi. I just added some macros to our WebPreferences. The WebPreferences are usually restricted to the AdminGroup and I do not want to change that. However I want these specific macros to be editable by another group.
I tried setting these macros in another wikipage and including that page in WebPreferences, but that didn't work.
Is there maybe another way to achieve this?
[12:20]
gac410zak256: Settings cannot be "included"
What release of Foswiki are you on?
[12:22]
zak256gac410: Yes, I've seen that. We are still on 1.1.2 unfortunately. [12:23]
gac410Foswiki 2.1 has a dynamic %SET macro function that can be included. Another thing I've seen done, but it's ugly is to use %CALC{$Set and %CALC{$Get ... those can be included. [12:24]
zak256Yes I know of the SET macro. But that indeed seems ugly. [12:25]
gac410But I'm not sure how it woudl work using a * Set SOMEAVAR = %CALC{$get(foo) [12:25]
zak256Well never mind. It is not that important. Maybe I give change permission to the resp. group for WebPreferences then. [12:26]

foswiki_irc4Is it possible to allow a user to change a password with the default password manager? It doesn't seem to be clear in the support info [16:17]
..... (idle for 22mn)
It telle me "Resetting and setting password is not available." so I'm guessing by default it doesn't support it [16:39]
***cdot has left [16:51]
gac410foswiki_irc4: yes the default password manager (Foswiki::Users::HtPasswdUser )supports reset. If the .htpasswd file is not writable by foswiki, that will also disable password reset. Also Email needs to be configured & enabled for reset to work. [16:58]
FoswikiBothttps://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Users::HtPasswdUser [16:58]
foswiki_irc4How do I determine if it's writeable, just by the main file attributes? [17:05]
gac410Yes. Or bin/configure should also give you a warning that .htpasswd is not writable. ... I think Anyway, it should be owned by the server and mode 640
depends on your os. owner apache, www, www-data, or whatever is consistent for your installation.
[17:08]
foswiki_irc4Ok, I didn't get any sort of warning and I did make sure that it's writeable that way. Problem is going to be with the email I think, I recall that becing one of the issues of running this on a Windows server [17:09]
gac410Oh... running on windows. Yeah getting email running is difficult at best. Some of the dependencies are complex to get installed. Especially since most email servers now require secure connections.
I can't help much with windows. I don't have it available heree.
[17:10]
foswiki_irc4I understand. I tried an auto config in there and had a slew of errors so I need to decide if it's worth attempting. Is it possible to manually reset someone's password another way if they forgot it already? [17:11]
gac410the admin might be able to use the ChangePassword dialog. I'm not really sure though :( [17:12]
foswiki_irc4Looks like you need to know the original one to be able to change it. Lovely, the director of IT here has been wanting to get in and see what it looks like so I send him the link to create his account and he forgets the password already
Do you think I could delete him and have him sign up again?
[17:15]
gac410if the apache "htpasswd" command is availabe on windows, you can generate a new password offline for ex:
htpasswd -n -b JoeUser asdfasdf
And then **carefully** edit that line into the .htpasswd file. But BACK IT UP FIRST! Foswiki uses a "special format" WikiName:password:email (note the trailing :email)
if you were to follow the htpasswd command help and have it actually edit the file directly , it would delete everyone's email addresses.
So if the command returned the following:
JoeUser:$apr1$/Otw3hXA$m15IDkyFSN7anK.KOJRoy/
You would use that line, adding the :email@address after the Roy/
[17:16]
foswiki_irc4Oh boy. I'll give that a shot, hopefully I can figure out the email thing for the future. Thanks. [17:25]
Hmm. I changed the file and it won't let me in
Scratch that, I copied the / by mistake. All good, thank you
[17:36]
gac410great [17:39]
