foswiki_irc5Hey, it's the Windows server guy. Yesterday I had issues with the preferences screen after I installed NatSkin, something about maybe needing the ImageMagick module. Just wanted to say I got it working relatively easily by installing these modules:

gac410Hi MichaelDaum Just checking if you have any concerns about patch in Item14388 ... It seems to work fine here. [14:30]

foswiki.getScriptUrl should be used differently ... adding my 2c to the task item
[14:31]
gac410okay thx [14:32]

Thanks! That is much better than the concatenation. I'll make the change and then get it committed.

TarunHi guys...
I was struggling with one issue
I was hoping you could help
I'm upgrading from 2.1.2 to 2.1.3
and using the bulk_copy perl script
perl bulk_copy.pl --xweb System --xweb _default --xweb _empty --latest '*.WebStatistics' /var/www/foswiki-data/bin /var/www/foswiki/bin
[20:29]
gac410you don't need to do any of that. [20:30]
Tarunbut all copies get "skipped" [20:30]
gac410Just unzip the upgrade package on top of 2.1.2 [20:30]
Tarununfortunately, my 2.1.2 installation got corrupted ... with file system errors
so I started a new install
with 2.1.3
and copied all my data over to the new installation
[20:30]
gac410Well even with a new install, You can just copy over the data/ and pub/ directories ... no need to run bulk_copy
well data & pub except for System.
[20:31]
TarunI see... let me give that a quick shot
thanks
[20:31]
gac410Bulk_copy is really only needed for major conversions. patch and minor releases don't need any special things [20:32]
TarunI see... I did use bulkcopy successfully in January migrating from 1.x to 2.x
so I see how that might have made sense
but in this case it's not needed
I wasn't aware... thanks!
wow, this is great... I can already see all my data
[20:33]
gac410Great. [20:34]
Tarunthe mv worked
just need to figure out the skin
can I copy a folder over for copying the skin settings as well
[20:34]
gac410If you copied the data/Main and pub/Main you should have gotten all your skin settings. [20:35]
TarunI did...
let me check /bin/configure
[20:35]
gac410Unless you did something like edit System/DefaultPreferences. That's not recommended. [20:36]
Tarunnope... I was using natskin earlier
I'm positive I had installed it
but doesn't show up in my plugin folder
plugin page*
[20:36]
gac410Ah... if you started with 2.1.3 from scratch, then you'll need to reinstalll all the plugins. [20:37]
Tarunyeah, I think natskin installation might have errored out
I tried reinstalling and I see some errors
so, are the attachments also part of the data and pub folders ?
[20:37]
gac410Attachments are in pub folders. [20:38]
Tarungotcha [20:39]
gac410The metadata (and history if using PlainFile store) are in the data directory [20:39]
Tarunthanks... [20:39]
gac410Installing plugins usually puts stuff in pub/System data/System, and in lib and templates. [20:39]
Tarunis natskin the recommended plugin?
is natskin the recommended skin*?
or in other words - is natskin a reasonably popular skin?
[20:40]
gac410NatSkin is *big* ... lots of extensions. It is very modern, lots of people like it. Recommendations / opinions ... depends who you ask ;) [20:41]
Tarunhaha ok
This is the first time I'm using this chat tool
[20:41]
gac410PatternSkin is simple, but not as modern, [20:41]
Tarunvery helpful - is this where all the foswiki devs hang out to help us paupers out [20:41]
gac410Yes, varies by timezone, ... Europe is mostly offline now. The NatSkin developer is in Germany. [20:42]
Tarunvery nice, thanks gac410 [20:42]
gac410yw [20:43]
VickiBrownI realize MS isn't as big a player in Europe, but… do any of you guys have serious experience integrating FW into a Microsoft Active Directory environment? The client wanted integration with their existing backend applications, hoping to replace MS Sharepoint with TWiki. Single Sign-on was the sticking point. It took 5 months and didn't quite work. [20:47]
gac410Sure. (not me though ;) ) LdapContrib and LdapNgPlugin can hook into AD. Can be pretty tricky to set up. I've not done it. [20:48]
VickiBrownClient had a bunch of internal discussion this weekend and ended the contract. "my primary concerns deal with future supportability, its integration with AD and any other potential connections we envision to other services. There are just too many unknowns at this time. " [20:48]
jastit's pretty straightforward if you understand the attributes and the correct names
the LDAP part, that is. SSO/Kerberos is not nearly as much fun.
[20:48]
VickiBrownYeah, that "pretty tricky to set up" part was the killer. I won;t name names… but you know the contractor who was doing the backend integration.
Yup. SSO/Kerberos tossed me (and my *nix/Mac environment) out of the mix . Wasn't set up to fail back to Wiki template login. No way to log out. No way to view as guest. No way to log in as another user.
in theory, I should (have) been able to configure my Mac for Kerberos but I didn;t know how.
If I could point the client to someone who has _done this_ successfully at a company that could be a reference, that would be grand. "I need to read the docs and do a bunch of research because this is hard" is not what they want to hear again.
I'll put this up on the Support pages just in case…
[20:49]
https://foswiki.org/Support/Question1872 [21:03]
jastyou can set it up so that it falls back to password authentication (via HTTP authentication), just like you can set it up to only affect non-guest access [21:17]
VickiBrownyeah, well, that is the theory. [21:17]
jastno, it's practice. at Modell Aachen I've set it up a dozen times myself and we had easily more than 50 active customers with that kind of setup
probably way more
[21:18]
VickiBrownSIngle sign-on, failback to standard login? [21:18]
jastyes. template login or HTTP auth, depending on specific requirements [21:18]
VickiBrownemail me? (vlbatcfcl@gmail.com) [21:19]
jastthe former needed a special login manager but I believe it's open sourced on modell aachen's github org
well, this is a bad time, actually. I'm spending the next couple of days in hospital...
[21:19]
VickiBrownI can wait. The client is feeling a bit burtned on the edges right now.
Are you OK??
[21:20]
jastwell, it's slow decay, not sudden death... so, kind of [21:20]
VickiBrownI shall think good thoughts for you!! [21:20]
jastbut yeah, we can talk when I'm back home [21:20]
VickiBrownI'll be here. [21:21]
jastI no longer work at Modell Aachen but I do have the experience [21:21]
VickiBrownThanks. I would love to at least give the client an option to say "this isn;t as impossible as it seems. Peoplke havce done it."
preferabbly typed better than that
[21:21]
jast:)
but it's true that Kerberos is fiddly to set up and easy to break later on
[21:21]
VickiBrownIf you have a chance, ping my email address so I have your contact info outside of this channel
I believe that about Kerberos
But they do have a smart sys admin on staff.
[21:22]
jastsent [21:23]
VickiBrownthanks
we will all think increasing percentage thoughts!!
[21:24]
jastsounds good to me
thanks :)
[21:25]
gac410well good luck .. .yes bump up those percentages :D [21:25]
jastI'm arrogant enough to consider myself a special case in which everything always goes well [21:26]
gac410well you contribute to the greater good with opensource so that has to be worth something... Certainly it's not the pay [21:27]
jastkarma is on my side, clearly [21:27]
FoswikiBotis on my side, clearly has karma of 0. [21:27]
jastthanks, FoswikiBot [21:27]
gac410luckily it's "clearly" who has no karma [21:28]
vrurgjast: wish you to get well ASAP! [21:31]
jastthanks [21:32]

TarunHi guys [22:38]
gac410Hi Tarun [22:38]
TarunHi again
I have a question ... this may or may not be related to natskin
and based on that, you can point me in the right direction
[22:39]
gac410Just ask .. sure [22:39]
Taruncurrently - my main page is appearing almost correctly
but somewhat broken
these kind of links are not resolving
%GETTOPICTITLE{"Main.MuraliGodavarti"}% %DBQUERY{ "total_likes>0" topic="Main.WebHome" format="| $percntTRANSLATE{\"[quant,_1,like,likes]\" args=\"$expand(total_likes)\"}$percnt" }%
[22:39]
gac410Missing extension [22:40]
Tarun%WEBLINK% [22:40]
gac410Extensions... [22:40]
Tarunalright, let me double check [22:40]
gac410TRANSLATE is the MultiLingualPlugin [22:43]
***Lynnwood__ is now known as Lynnwood_ [22:43]
TarunI just compared, seems like I have all the plugins I had in the old installation
also have the MutliLingualPlugin installed
[22:43]
gac410DBQUERY is the DBCachePlugin [22:44]
Tarunhave that one installed as well
perhaps I should reinstall these
[22:44]
gac410If they are not rendering then, either they are not enabled, or thery are failing. Check System.InstalledPlugins [22:44]
Tarunyou're right, they're not showing up in /System/InstalledPlugins
though they show up in /bin/configure
[22:46]
gac410Okay. So that's probably the Enabled setting in bin/configure. [22:46]
Tarunduh [22:47]
gac410;) [22:47]
Tarunyou're right again
they were not enabled
[22:47]
gac410That would do it :D [22:48]
Tarunuh oh - Foswiki detected an internal error - please check your Foswiki logs and webserver logs for more information. Can't call method "fastget" on an undefined value
the foswiki URL gives me this error now
[22:48]
gac410DBCacheContrib. Did you configure the database settings?
Probably need to manually update lib/LocalSite.cfg and disable DBCacheContrib}{Enabled}
So you can fix it.
[22:49]
TarunI don't have DBCacheContrib plugin
ok
I see
let me..
[22:50]
gac410It's just DBCacheContrib (not plugin)
Ah... and there is no Enable setting doh.
[22:51]
Tarunyep, my bad... I meant don't have that extension
yeah
I see these 3 options in there:
$Foswiki::cfg{DBCacheContrib}{AlwaysUpdateCache} = 0; $Foswiki::cfg{DBCacheContrib}{Archivist} = 'Foswiki::Contrib::DBCacheContrib::Archivist::Segmentable'; $Foswiki::cfg{DBCacheContrib}{LoadFileLimit} = 0;
[22:51]
FoswikiBothttps://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Contrib::DBCacheContrib::Archivist::Segmentable [22:51]
TarunI went ahead and disabled DBCachePlugin and the page came back up. I left MultiLingualPlugin on [22:53]
gac410Y, need to get DBCacheContrib installed & configured, then enable the DBCachePlugin [22:55]
TarunOh yeah, I was just debugging... to see what extension caused it [22:55]
any idea ? [23:07]
gac410DBCachePlugin definitely required DBCacheContrib (The latter is the back-end) So need to install & Configure DBCacheContrib. [23:08]
Tarunis it possible that it's a dependency that failed to install during installation of DBCachePlugin [23:08]
gac410Could be yes. [23:09]
Tarunok, let me try to remove+reinstall dbcacheplugin [23:09]
gac410No... just install DBCacheContrib [23:09]
TarunDBCachePlugin*
I see
but it's not listed in extensions..
[23:09]
gac410Configure should be able to find it. [23:10]
TarunI'm not sure I understand how to install it [23:11]
gac410bin/configure Extensions tab. Install Update or Remove extesion tab. Then "Find extension" button [23:12]
TarunI looked here: https://foswiki.org/Extensions/DBCacheContrib
Open configure, and open the "Extensions" section. Use "Find More Extensions" to get a list of available extensions. Select "Install".
[23:12]
gac410put in DBCache and hit search. [23:12]
Tarunbut when I search, it doesn't give me an option
Ok...
[23:12]
***rathier has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) [23:13]
gac410Darn.... The instructions you quoted are written for the Fosiwki 1.x configure. "Find more extensions" button is no more :( [23:13]
***Lynnwood_ is now known as Lynnwood__ [23:13]
gac410Crap.... That's probably some boilerplate text that we missed updating somehow. [23:14]
Tarunthat's ok... I'm under Bin/Configure - > Extensions Tab -> Extension Operation and maintainence -> Install, Update or Remove Extensions -> Search for Extension
but .. DBCache is drawing a blank
[23:14]
gac410Ah... It must be already installed.
Click "Review installed extensions" it should be listed there.
[23:16]
TarunDBCacheContrib is installed
yep
let me go and see if it shows up under the earlier link you gave me
http://10.101.5.251/System/InstalledPlugins -> To check if plugins are installed or not
need to disable plugin to get ehre
[23:16]
gac410Contrib's don't show up there. :( [23:18]
Tarunok... I removed the extension
trying to reinstall now
The validation window stays in loading state
[23:18]
gac410Try reloading configure. [23:20]
Tarunif it helps in any way, I created this new VM using the vmwarevm image [23:20]
gac410I don't use these extensions, So I'm just not sure.
gotta step away for a bit ...
[23:20]
Tarunno worries
thanks for your help today
[23:21]
gac410Check the PerlDependenciesReport. DBCacheContrib probalby has dependencies on other perl modules. I know the vmware image doesn't have all the dependencies needed for these other extensions installed.
Also with DBCacheContrib, you need to have configured the correct "archivist: for your installation. Check your old LocalSite.cfg if you didn't copy it over
[23:24]
Tarunyeah, I tried doing the DBCacheContrib
thing again...
and this time --- received 3 missing dependencies:
BerkeleyDB, Sereal and Time::ParseDate
and no surprise - installing them is failing
[23:26]
gac410Y. You can always look for missing deps in System.PerlDependencyReport. It should show all deps for core & all extensions.
apt-get install libsereal-perl libberkeleydb-perl
apt-get install libtime-parsedate-perl
[23:27]
Tarunlet me install those as well [23:31]
gac410Those are the dependencies listed for DBCacheContrib
translated to the ubuntu package names
[23:31]
Tarununderstood
installed
let me try reinstalling DBCacheContrib
what time zone are you in?
[23:32]
gac410East coast US. [23:34]
Tarunah ok [23:34]
gac410So UTC+4 currently [23:35]
Tarunyeah, I'm on the west coast
uninstalling
it had installed despite the missing dependencies
[23:35]
gac410You really should not need to uninstall / reinstall. Either it's there or itt's not
That doesn't matter
[23:37]
Tarunit didn't show up on the install list...
so ...
[23:37]
gac410Which install list? [23:38]
Tarunare you saying, once I installed the dependencies
it should have started working
[23:38]
gac410System/InstalledPlugins. DBCacheContrib is NOT a Plugin. It won't be listed there.
Yes.
[23:38]
Tarunyep, understood
I thought the installation stopped halfway
never mind
[23:38]
gac410No. It just reports info and should keep going ... I hope. [23:38]
Tarungotcha
it installed without errors
argh
still gives the same error
[23:39]
gac410"tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log" then visit your webhome. That will show you the errors from that transaction [23:41]
***Lynnwood__ is now known as Lynnwood_ [23:41]

1) mod_fcgid: stderr: Long integer size is not compatible at /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/perl/5.22/Storable.pm line 383, at /var/www/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Contrib/DBCacheContrib/Archivist/Segmentable.pm line 23., referer: http://10.101.5.251/bin/configure

gac410Okay. The first error is the important one. The module failed to load, so the 2nd error is a side effect.
let me look a bit.
[23:44]
Tarungotcha [23:44]
gac410Check the setting for {DBCacheContrib}{Archivist}: What do you have configured? [23:45]
Taruncheck under LocalSite.cfg ?
$Foswiki::cfg{DBCacheContrib}{Archivist} = 'Foswiki::Contrib::DBCacheContrib::Archivist::Segmentable';
[23:46]
FoswikiBothttps://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Contrib::DBCacheContrib::Archivist::Segmentable [23:47]
gac410Archivist::Segmentable is the default. You might try one of the others. Serializable instead of Segmentable
for ex.
[23:47]
Taruntried it, new error: stderr: deserializer not implemented at /var/www/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Contrib/DBCacheContrib/Archivist/Serializable.pm line 78., referer: http://10.101.5.251/bin/configure

gac410Hang on ... [23:56]
Tarunok [23:56]
gac410There are some you dont' need ... What are they [23:56]
Tarunwoah, actually way more than 4
4 core dependencies
and multiple other ones
here's the list
[23:56]
gac410Small paste please. [23:56]
Tarunyeah, trying to format [23:57]
gac410You can use pastebin.com if it's big [23:57]

[23:57]
gac410So first double check is WebLinkPlugin listed on the System.InstalledPlugins
Okay. Dependencies. The core ones, you don't need. All optional
[23:59]
Tarunnope
not in the list
