AndreR3@MichaelDaum Where can I edit the natWEbMenu ? [07:02]
***cdot has left [07:03]
MichaelDaumHi AndreR3
the menu is stored in a WebComponent: https://foswiki.org/Extensions/NatSkin#WebComponents
the default shipped with NatSkin is located in System.SiteMenu
a custom one for the complete site is in Main.SiteMenu
a per-web one is located in MyFancyWeb.WebMenu
for instance, this is the one for the foswiki blog: https://blog.foswiki.org/Main/SiteMenu
[07:05]

MichaelDaumyou probably didn't follow the rule "Never touch a topic in the System web" [07:12]
***GuilainC is now known as GuilainC_away [07:13]
MichaelDaumyour changes to System.SiteMenu was probably overwritten by the update. better configure your local site's settings in Main.SitePreferences, Main.SiteMenu, Main.SiteBottomBar, Main.... [07:13]
AndreR3yes maybe :) Still a noob in Foswiki [07:13]
MichaelDaumno problem. noobs welcome. [07:13]

gac410Hi MichaelDaum_ ... I built a 2.1.4 RC last night. Dodm
try that again Didn't upload it anywhere, but thinking that maybe we should go ahead with another patch release.
We've got 21 fixes in it
[13:33]
***gmc has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) [13:35]
MichaelDaumHi gac410. That's awesome. [13:37]
gac410So I guess you think I should go ahead with it ;)
I'll load it to foswiki.org to give it a live test. I'll probably only release it to the github tag rather than sourceforge too.
But not until later today ... stuff to do this morning.

Lynnwood__I'm having a bit of trouble with SolrPlugin WikiUsers view template. It appears that it uses QUERY to retrieve the configure preference setting {SolrPlugin}{PersonDataForm}, but QUERY only returns certain preferences and that's not one of these.
one of them...
[18:00]
FoswikiBotone of them is deprecated. I think redirectto is correct [18:00]
gac410Lynnwood__ There is a setting - AccessibleConfig. You can add to that list. [18:01]
Lynnwood__you're brilliant: you anticipated my question :-)
thanks so much
[18:01]
gac410yw [18:01]
Lynnwood__worked like a charm :-) [18:04]
....... (idle for 30mn)
gac410 I think you mentioned a while back that you had done some changes to ImmediateNotifyPlugin. Are those published or do I get that from git?
The published and "test" versions still seems older.
[18:34]
gac410Not sure what the status of ImmediateNotifyPlugin is ... My work was very incomplete.
Recently I did a lot o work on the NotificationPlugin ...
[18:34]
Lynnwood__oh. i guess i imagined your comment.
ah!
ok
[18:35]
gac410No ... I had searched the logs. You had been using NotificationPlugin and that's the one I fixed up for someone else. [18:35]
Lynnwood__got it.
I think i tried it couldn't get it to work of used ImmediateNotifyPlugin. It had troubles but I did get it working.
[18:35]
gac410NotificationPlugin works completely now as far as I can see. With ImmediateNotifyPlugin I tried to get too fancy. [18:38]
Lynnwood__yea, i only made an effort to get the email notification working... and it does.
Maybe I'll try replacing it with NotificationPlugin
[18:39]
......... (idle for 40mn)
gac410NotificationPlugin does do some things that I don't really like. I has to find/read all of the <SomeUser>NotifyList topics on every save. and then send all of the emails during the save. It hooks the beforeSave, so is blocks the save for possible network delays.
So a small number of users getting notified probably not a big deal, but I suspect it would not scale well.
[19:20]
Lynnwood__This afternoon I've trying to get fcgi working on a site using the apache config provided by Support/ApacheConfigGenerator and it's just not doing it. [19:27]
gac410hm That's strange. we've been using it very successfully - What's going on? [19:27]
Lynnwood__The only change I'm using beside the default provided is that I have "/var/www/foswiki" for patch and just "/" for URL path. [19:28]
gac410I locally have a test version that improves it a bit, but nothing that would have stopped it from being operational. What's not working? [19:29]
Lynnwood__I just get NOT FOUND.
The requested URL /Home/WebHome was not found on this server.
[19:29]
gac410Ah.. I've seen that happen if there are missing dependencies that causes a compile error.
Is cgi working, just not fcgi?
[19:30]
Lynnwood__yes cgi is working fine.
perhaps i need to check the loaded modules?
[19:30]
gac410hm run tools/dependencies That will tell you if the FCGI module is missing. [19:31]
Lynnwood__cool [19:31]
gac410Y, enabling the modules in the web server would be needed too
on debian/apache it's a2enmod fcgid
[19:31]
Lynnwood__let's give that a try.
well gee... that would explain it: libapache2-mod-fcgid isn't installed.
[19:34]
gac410;) [19:36]
Lynnwood__great. it's working now.
can't believe i missed that. I thought I had installed everything up front
Small note about ApacheConfigGenerator: I did find one that that needs updating.'
RewriteLog "/var/log/apache/rewrite.log" doesn't work on apache 2.4
[19:37]
gac410Okay. I was just looking to install my updated version. Doing a diff to see everything I changed. hm And that one I missed.
Do you know the syntax?
[19:38]
Lynnwood__needds to be replaced with "LogLevel alert rewrite:trace3"
or something close to that... i don't know the level of trace that appropriate.
i'll find the doc here...
[19:39]
gac410Okay. I'll fiddle with it too. [19:39]
Lynnwood__https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/mod_rewrite.html#logging
When i tried to enable the line with RewriteLog, apache wouldn't load.
[19:39]
gac410My updated version uses a Define foswikiroot .... so that if you ever move the config / install path, only need to change one line.
Someone opened a task a while back suggesting that change.
[19:40]
Lynnwood__nice [19:42]
gac410btw... For FCGI it's good to add FcgidMaxRequestsPerProcess 400 or similar, to cause a handler restart after 400 requests, to limit memory growth.
That's another addition I made
[19:44]
Lynnwood__I do have something similar...
FcgidMaxProcessesPerClass 50
but i don't understand enough to know the difference
[19:46]
gac410That's different. That controls the number of backends, not the number of requests each one handles.
We were gettin occasional out-of-memory issues on foswiki.org until we added the limit on requests handled.
BTW I'm planning on uploading a 2.1.4-RC1 later today. 21 fixes.

Lynnwood__I'm wanting to test load time on a page with fcgi versus plain cgi. In the past I've does this by invoking view script from command line along with time. Something like this: "time ./view topic=Main.WebHome.
Work that work with fcgi and rewrites enabled?
or am i bypassing fcgi by directly invoking view?
[20:01]
gac410no. Actually that doesn't test CGI either. It's the CLI engine. close, but certainly no apache overhead. [20:02]
Lynnwood__right... [20:02]
gac410There used to be an extension to firefox that would give you page timings, but last time I looked I couldn't fine it. [20:02]
Lynnwood__true... i could even just use the develop tools network panel... except that also covers thing loading after the page is displayed. [20:05]
gac410Maybe something like wget or curl? [20:05]
Lynnwood__that an interesting idea... i'll give it a try
or theres another terminal browser command. i don't want o download the file.
i'll give it atry anyway
[20:06]
gac410curl gets to stdout... so curl your-url >/dev/nul [20:08]
Lynnwood__actually... that can't work because the site requires authentication to view. [20:08]
