WhoWhatWhen
gac410When you ran the install from the web, do you get either of:
Fetching http://foswiki.org/pub/Extensions/MailerContrib/MailerContrib.tgz...
Unpacking..
[00:10]
(Just upgraded MailerContrib on one of my test sites to try it. The tar file does appear to be removed afterwards) [00:16]
matthiasbannerthey...
just lacked libwww-perl
i found something on the web probably some chat log of this room, installed libwww-perl after that
and now it works
soooo... was that a "hack" or did i solve the problem?
[00:16]
gac410Great. I think you solved it. I suspect libwww-perl is needed for Foswiki to fetch the files. [00:18]
matthiasbannertok... so its not some outdated solution ? [00:18]
gac410Comment in the code (Net.pm) says LWP is needed for fetching from https. Maybe we have some other bug - not sure. Or we should call it out as a dependency. [00:19]
matthiasbannerti really started my webserver from scratch... so probably i am missing some basic things sometimes... maybe that is just the solution...
w8, ill sent you a link to the log i found... maybe you´ll understand better...
this ist the log: http://irclogs.foswiki.org/bin/irclogger_log/foswiki?date=2009-07-26,Sun&text=on
got something like this (just /w another plugin): Fetching http://foswiki.org/pub/Extensions/IconPlugin/IconPlugin.tgz...
Unpacking...
Sotware error:
No data could be read from file at /var/www/foswiki/lib/Foswiki/Configure/UIs/EXTEND.pm line 346
and now it just works after installing libwww-perl
so if it´s not a bug, you guys should really call it out as a dependencies or note it somewhere in the configure interface...
[00:19]
gac410Yes - the "fetching... " is silently failing. The core code is supposed to work even without LWP.
What the module says is that our code will only reliably work for http 1.0 servers, and any later version or https: requires LWP as a dependency.
[00:22]
matthiasbannerthmm but somehow there is no fallback to shell tar , because i am 100 % sure shell tar works on my server ...
okay so a apache2 is not a http 1.0 server ?
[00:23]
gac410No - the problem is the fetch actually didn't fetch the file. So obviously the untar doesn't work. [00:23]
matthiasbannertokay i see.. well this is what i initially suspected (but was not confident enough to really believe it) because so answer of the server was so damn quick [00:24]
gac410My guess is that we should probably just require libwww (LWP). [00:25]
matthiasbannertso LWP is needed to fetch the file... and there´s nothing bad with running LWP ... right ? [00:25]
gac410Right - it just provides some web libraries for perl.
we are probably trying to be too simple by working around a missing dependency rather than just calling it out. But one of the core developers could comment better
[00:25]
matthiasbannertcool... hey great work on all of this.. i am definitely impressed. and i think everythin i need for now works...
but i know ´ll be back..
[00:27]

gac410Anytime. glad to help. [00:27]
matthiasbannert(bow)
:)
btw: i am looking for some nice code lighting for R (stastical runtime env , r-project.org)
i´d love to document some small R-scripts an tutorials with FOSwiki
but unfortunately the language is only used among special interest groups.. .
[00:27]
gac410Sorry -it's not anything I'm familiar with. [00:30]
matthiasbannertanyway... i´ll be back looking for some solutions soon. but not today. bedtime like barbar said.. :)
thx again for the all the help... got everything up and running now !
good nite
ah w8, one easy questions :
:D
[00:30]
gac410Sure. [00:32]
matthiasbannerti deleted some of my test users and they are in trash web now
how can i get fully rid of them ?
[00:32]
gac410I've used a cron job to tar up and delete topics from Trash - it's not provided with Foswiki that I recall anyway. [00:33]
matthiasbannertokay... dont think i need it on a regular basis right now. just wanna get rid of the users, because i want to show it to some friends tomorrow who work on the same project
and these definitely look ugle
ugly
so no regular stuff for now...
just need to delete one time
[00:36]
gac410You can just delete the files from disk - just leave the default topics in the trash directory.
Each trashed topic is 2 files blah.txt and blah.txt,v (the ,v file is the rcs control file)
Opened http://foswiki.org/Tasks/Item2315 describing your issue
[00:37]
matthiasbannertcool
is there a way to just prevent the public from reading event the first page
like puttin a .htaccess to the document root of foswiki ?
[00:43]
gac410You can put a redirect in to redirect ^$ or ^/$ to bin/view/Main/WebHome
I should add that to the ApacheConfigGenerator as an example
[00:45]
pharveyLWP is a system requirement.
We have lots of these bizarre error messages if a core dependency is missing
[00:49]
gac410Need to update Net.pm - it says that is is optional in the comments. my mistake. [00:49]
matthiasbannertpharvey: sorry just did not know that it was a dependency. [00:49]
pharveylib/DEPENDENCIES [00:50]
gac410Doesn't bin/configure check for missing dependencies ? It's been so long since I've run on a new system. [00:50]
matthiasbannerteverything went so well /w installing and playing around a little, that it did not come to my mind that i was lacking some core dependency [00:50]
***donbarry has joined #foswiki [00:50]
donbarrymatthiasbannert -- the syntaxhighlight plugin uses enscript, which can be extended to highlight R [00:51]
BabarLWP shouldn't be a core dependency [00:51]
matthiasbannertthx donbarry ! [00:51]
donbarrysee http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e6/help/09/04/10509.html for an addition to enscript's "states" file which determines highlighting info for languages [00:51]
BabarFoswiki has a fall back mechanism to download it manually [00:51]
pharveybin/configure only checks for plugin dependencies [00:51]
Babarat least it had one :) [00:52]
matthiasbannertbabar does not need much sleep :) [00:52]
donbarryhttp://foswiki.org/Extensions/SyntaxHighlightingPlugin for the plugin itself [00:52]
pharveyBabar: It's listed in Release01x00/core/lib/DEPENDANCIES [00:52]
gac410Babar - Net.pm appears to silently fail - but does state that LWP is optional for HTTP 1.0 downloads, required for HTTP 1.1, or HTTPS [00:53]
pharveyAh. It says it's optional
pharvey was wrong :P
It is needed for configure though
"Optional, needed for the Configure Extensions installer, and for external URL based INCLUDEs"
[00:53]
matthiasbannertdonbarry : awesome ! [00:53]
gac410If you read Net.pm, which does the download for configure, it says it should fallback and work without it. [00:54]
Babarpharvey: it shouldn't be. CDot said the fallback should work in most of the cases
exactly
[00:55]
pharveyWhen I first started with TWiki I had crazy errors that I could fix by going through lib/DEPENDENCIES. The worst one was fixed by installing Archive::Tar to make configure work. It didn't like our ancient, ancient SuSE tar. [01:00]
BabarArchive::Tar is now part of perl's core since 5.9.3 :)
Babar goes back to bed

CDot is debating %WEBDAV{"Web/Topic/Attachment.docx"}%
(these are links to webdav documents, BTW, in case you hadn't guessed)
alternative approach; parse URLs in the topic and recognise those that point at webdav docs

Dae`hmm I upgraded my twiki and my links aren't working anymore.. :P
I have pages generated via links like [[20.1.2008-abc]] and now it points to a different page..
what kind of filters are there that modify the link that gets constructed there?
I automatically thought about namefilter, but it is identical to the old installation...
the old twiki built links to like 2012008abc, but this new one just inserts a slash everywhere.. 20/1/2008/abc or so
