BabarRich_Morin: it seems http://foswiki.org/Community/VirtualBeer hasn't been updated in a long time :( [03:05]
Rich_MorinWe need to find a way to put some skin in the game (eg, PayPal). [03:07]

MichaelDaumHi Rich. Beer is okay, though a bit dry virtualized. [05:21]
Rich_MorinAlthough we have some craft breweries around here, they might not produce what a German would call beer.
"here" being the San Francisco Bay Area
[05:25]
rfVirtual Beer... I like that idea. [05:25]
Rich_Morinrf: http://foswiki.org/Community/VirtualBeer, in case you missed it. [05:26]

MichaelDaumRich_Morin, another more moderna alternative to MathModePlugin would be to integrate MathJax (http://www.mathjax.org/) there's preliminary work on foswiki plugin done by Will Norris.
It would make sense to pick up this work and bring it to a production release.
you'll get a lot more control over typesetting, besides using a widely used standard.
[05:53]
Rich_MorinDoes MathJax interpret LaTeX and generate HTML/CSS/...? [05:56]
MichaelDaumsee http://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/mathjax.html [05:58]
Rich_Morincery nice
erm, very nice
For the moment, however, MathModePlugin is meeting my needs.
[05:59]
MichaelDaumthere are online demos as well to test some of your equations
there might be mathml equation editors out there too
and native browser support is on its way http://caniuse.com/mathml
[05:59]
Rich_MorinMy clients use LaTeX, so that's kind of a given in the project.
They're even generating LaTeX programmatically from their modeling software...
[06:02]
MichaelDaumyea very widespread. for good reasons.
as far as I understood mathjax will take whatever backend the browser supports and translate the input language to it.
so it is a kind of glue in between
with the overall goal to become obsolete one day
[06:03]
Rich_MorinI'm amused to find that my references on LaTeX seem to be perfectly usable, severa; years on. [06:04]
MichaelDaumdid you check printouts using MathModePlugin? [06:07]
Rich_MorinNo, so far all I've done is the one page
It's a template for knowledge gathering (from scientists) and documentation.
If and when my client is happy with it, I hope to make a few dozen variations for other process models.

foswiki_irc7Hello all
I found a strange behavior in the foswiki API (Foswiki 1.0.9). There is a topic with a non wiki word (VXupdateContainer_VX1000_XY-MB_2013-05-27_ToolUpdateTest), a terrible topic name but everything works fine except the saveTopic operation via API.
It throws the exception: "Topic name (VXupdateContainer_VX1000_XY-MB_2013-05-27_ToolUpdateTest) not valid! at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/CGI/Carp.pm line 314"
Why? The topic already exists and all operation via browser works fine ...
[11:10]
jastdoesn't look like this message is present in the current version of Foswiki
I don't have the old version handy right now
[11:23]
pharveyCould be NameFilterRegex, perhaps the hyphen is problematic (is it one of the weird non-ascii hyphens, for example?) [11:26]
CDotit's the minus sign, i think
the nameFilter isn't consistently applied (it a f**king silly idea anyway)
[11:39]
foswiki_irc7Hm, I haven't analyzed the stack trace :-(
My util module has a "untained" function which cause the problem
sorry for the inconvenience caused
[11:41]
pharveyIt's no inconvenience, this type of question is perfect for IRC [11:45]
michelMichaelDaum : (still working on NatSkin + Solr). Natskin works fine for me now, thanks for the updates !
But since I've put the SolrPlugin from the Trunk, Solr do not work anymore. I've set that up using Ubuntu Jetty and JettySolr packages, then redirecting solr conf folder to the one
provided with SolrPlugin. I am using an Apache vhost but only one Foswiki install on this server (so not using the virtualhost-... commands)
When I issue the cd tools, ./solrindex topic=Main.WebHome command here is what I get : http://hastebin.com/sifohexafe.vhdl
[11:50]
MichaelDaummichel, your solr is still running on standard files, not ready for foswiki [11:52]
michelbut conf folder is redirected to the one of SolrPlugin [11:52]
MichaelDaumit doesnt seem to read it
you need to use the multicore directory, not the conf one
[11:53]
michelok.. also should I use the SolrPlugin-bin of the http://foswiki.org/Extensions/SolrPlugin instead of ubuntu packages ? [11:54]
MichaelDaumno thats very old [11:54]
michelok ! [11:54]
MichaelDaumthe one from foswiki.org is very outdated
and it is not a multicore setup either
[11:54]
michelok, so I'll set up the multicore stuff [11:55]
foswiki_irc2Howdy all - I gather one just jumps in if you have a question. I am trying to implement LDAP. Q1: I can get the ldap login to work (no small feat) but seem to now be stuck with a hellofanugly loginname and my pretty wikiName is not showing in author on new topic. Where have I lost the path?
I am hoping to sell foswiki to other by pointing out "you have to do nothing but login using ldap creds" and you can use it
[11:55]
MichaelDaummichel, here's a general layout of the dirstructure http://hastebin.com/nutekuxupi.hs
as I am using it now
[12:00]
foswiki_irc2$VAR1 = { 'DN2U::CN=Smit\\, Jane,OU=Users,OU=USA,OU=NORAM,DC=fss,DC=arrows,DC=com' => 'smit-jane@arrows.com', 'EMAIL2U::Smit-Jane@arrows.com' => 'smit-jane@arrows.com', 'U2DN::smit-jane@arrows.com' => 'CN=Smit\\, Jane,OU=Users,OU=USA,OU=NORAM,DC=fss,DC=arrows,DC=com', 'U2EMAIL::smit-jane@arrows.com' => 'Smit-Jane@arrows.com', 'W2U::SmitJane' => 'smit-jane@arrows.com', 'W [12:00] michelMichaelDaum : ok, I see part of that in my FW installation under ./solr/multicore but : my ./solr/lib is empty , also I do not have the solr.war file.. ?!? [12:12] MichaelDaumdownload solr here: http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/lucene/solr/4.3.0 the solr.war is in there; all libs go to var/lib/solr/lib/ [12:12] michelok ! so ubuntu packages are not a good idea here ? what about jetty ? [12:14] MichaelDaumyes thats what I use I don't use solr-jetty from ubuntu, but the jetty servlet container. [12:15] Rich_MorinMichaelDaum: yt? [12:19] MichaelDaumy [12:20] Rich_MorinCouple of questions. First, might you know a way to add space in an equation? For example, to get the RHS of the equations in http://wiki.cfcl.com/bin/view/Projects/ISLE/GP/AE_Exponential_Loss to line up The other question is more general. If I wanted to play with LatexModePlugin, do you have any caveats or suggestions? [12:21] .... (idle for 16mn) ***ChanServ sets mode: +o MichaelDaum_ [12:37] MichaelDaumRich_Morin, your first question is in parts a plain latex question. to really line up equations they need to be part of the same <latex ></latex> blob, I guess. [12:45] Rich_Morinthat's true, but my efforts to look up an answer came up short - I thought you might happen to know the answer [12:46] MichaelDaumon your other question: I never used LatexModePlugin. could be it supersedes MathModePlugin. [12:46] Rich_Morinwell, MathModePlugin is probably simpler to use, but LatexModePlugin loos like it can handle things that MathModePlugin cannot. [12:48] MichaelDaumyea [12:48] rffoswiki_irc2, Do you use {Ldap}{WikiNameAttributes} = cn for example to generate a pretty wiki name? Or what exactly are you trying to do? [12:49] foswiki_irc2yes I have and it works - if I dump the cache I have a very pretty wikiname 'WIKINAMES' => 'SmitJane', from cache sanitized (fwiw) [12:53] jastfoswiki_irc2: have you activated LdapUserMapping? (i.e. not just an LDAP-enabled login manager) in configure, it's "security and auth" -> "login" -> {UserMappingManager} [12:55] foswiki_irc2$Foswiki::cfg{PasswordManager} = 'Foswiki::Users::LdapPasswdUser'; [12:56]
FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Users::LdapPasswdUser [12:56]
jastyes, that's the password manager. I was talking about the user mapping.
it's what maps login names to wiki names, among other things
[12:57]
rfMeaning the loginname for ldap auth (for example foswikiirc2) gets mapped to the pretty wiki name [12:57]
foswiki_irc2this one?$Foswiki::cfg{UserMappingManager} = 'Foswiki::Users::TopicUserMapping'; [12:57] FoswikiBothttp://trunk.foswiki.org/System/PerlDoc?module=Foswiki::Users::TopicUserMapping [12:57] rftoo slow :x [12:57] jastyes. change it. :) [12:57] foswiki_irc2to what please ? [12:58] rfLdapUserMapping [12:58] foswiki_irc2if that works I am kissing you [12:58] rfPlease dont Ok well, kiss jast then :D [12:58] foswiki_irc2so then$Foswiki::cfg{PasswordManager} would be equal Foswiki::cfg{UserMappingManager} ? [12:59]
jastno. one is LdapPasswdUser, the other is LdapUserMapping
you do agree that there's a difference, right?
[12:59]
foswiki_irc2yes yes [13:00]
jastfwiw this is why configuring via /bin/configure is easy... you see all the possible options and such
*easier
[13:00]
foswiki_irc2$Foswiki::cfg{UserMappingManager} = 'Foswiki::Users::LdapUserMapping';$Foswiki::cfg{PasswordManager} = 'Foswiki::Users::LdapPasswdUser';
like that

foswiki_irc2Thanks to all - very much. Since I am 3/4 of the way into posting my question on support - I may now just post the answer there. [13:06]
MichaelDaumRich_Morin, I frankly have no clue. [13:07]
Rich_Morinnp [13:07]
JamesDiDonatoI have a question about Data Forms. I am looking to create a dropdown menu using <select> on each topic using the form that will allow users to change the value of a formfield. The values of this formfield are predescribed and are in the form topic. How do I make these form options show up in a drop-down select on each topic for the user to change?
thanks,
[13:15]
***laen has left [13:17]
jastJamesDiDonato: when you define the DataForm field, use the type 'select' and for the value column, put the valid options as a comma-separated list.
that should automatically turn the field into a select box everywhere the form editor is displayed
[13:20]
JamesDiDonatoyes I have done that and I see it working. But I dont want users to have to scroll down and edit the form itself on each page. I want there to be a dropdown within the topic itself that allows them to change the formfield indirectly [13:21]
jastwithout even going on the edit page at all? [13:23]
JamesDiDonatotake a look at this, ill pm it to u [13:24]
jastfor generating a select box from the form field definition automatically, look at FlexFormPlugin
the challenge is getting it to actually save something somewhere
I don't know the semantics by heart and unfortunately I don't have time to look into it right now...
[13:25]
JamesDiDonatookay, thank you for your help regardless, I am getting closer :-) [13:32]

jastjust hide them, or prevent editing altogether? [18:57]
nick_I think hide them.
Just for a front page or whatever that's pretty much static.
Although we should also be able to edit occassionally
[19:03]
jastwell, you can limit editing to admins, that should hide the buttons for everyone else
more topic actions -> edit settings for this topic -> add a line " * Set ALLOWTOPICCHANGE = AdminUser" (no quotes)
but it depends on the template
if that alone doesn't hide the buttons, using an alternative template might be necessary
