|JennyKolla||Hello, I want to set a Skin at the whole web. Where I place the Set- commands?
I know how to set it at the topic.
|....... (idle for 33mn)|
|JulianLevens||JennyKolla: the set statement is required in the WebPreferences topic of the web you want to give a different skin||[09:09]|
|JennyKolla||If I place the Set-commands in WebPreferences only the topic views me the Skin
WebPreferences are in the web system. Is this the problem? I created a MainWebPreferences and copied the Content from WebPreferences (System) but it doesn't work. The skin is only at the topiv
|JulianLevens||There should be a WebPreferences topic in all webs||[09:17]|
|JennyKolla||If I am at the main page of the main web I searched after the WebPreferences but there is no WebPreferences topic...||[09:18]|
|JulianLevens||That's very odd as the Web does not officially exist in Foswiki unless a topic called WebPreferences exists in that web
What is the configure setting for WebPrefsTopicName
|JennyKolla||Sry I found the WebPreferences I was confused because there are another name ..contributer with the date 2010. What do you mean with WebPrefsTopicName
Now It works. I have found the right WebPreferences topic for the Main web. Thanks :) :) :)

|JulianLevens||Hi gac410, have you recovered from yesterday?||[13:20]|
|gac410||yeah. I guess so, sleep helps.
I hate breaking stuff.
|JulianLevens||Sure does, I did feel like I was watching gladiators fighting a wild beast, blood everywhere||[13:22]|
|gac410||But then again, that's why we have trunk isn't it. Those changes were made back last November.||[13:22]|
|JulianLevens||But you live to fight another day||[13:22]|
|gac410||At this point I just wanted to make it all go away :)||[13:22]|
|JulianLevens||I'm sure we all know the feeling. I'm afraid breaking stuff comes with the territory
I must admit to being too cautious still. I have a few small changes to put together and check-in, watch out
|gac410||Yeah. and I should know better than to wade into TinyMCE. It and Wysiwyg are a challenging area. But no guts no glory, or is it no pain no gain ???
MichaelDaum: stats.foswiki.org is dead. ... I'm hoping disabling Piwik plugin will remove the links from the topics? It's timing out.
|MichaelDaum||didn't know PiwikPlugin was installed on f.o
as it is a relatively new plugin
|gac410||Hm... it has been there for years but someone installed it into the plugins directory directly, no topic, etc.
module dated Oct 2009
|FoswikiBot||http://trac.foswiki.org/changeset/4684 [ Changeset 4684 – Foswiki ]||[13:33]|
|gac410||okay... that wasn't any help.
|MichaelDaum||not my code
might be some local f.o-only "plugin" that never made it into svn.
|gac410||yeah. It's been there a long time. View the page source of a f.o topic to see what it puts in ... before I disable it :)
gac410 is afraid to ask. Is TinyMCE on trunk all better?
|MichaelDaum||btw here's the one I wrote http://foswiki.org/Extensions/PiwikPlugin#Info
gac410, TinyMCE ... still have to find out what's going on. There's been other work distracting me from tinymce-ing
|gac410||Yeah... we need to decide if we install yours or add the hackjob to svn.
Well in any event, all my changes are reversed.
|gac410||Well they are not lost. Someone can always put them back. I just have been away from it too long to try to fix it under a deadline.||[13:38]|
is trunk at least on par with 1.1.x?
|gac410||I think the editor is older. When I installed 3.5.10 I did it to the multi-version structure. So trunk is now 3.4.9
(all from memory... I might be off a bit)
Okay piwik disabled on f.o. Lets see if that fixes some page load times I've been seeing.
|Ah... not only was stats not responding, sflogo.sourceforge.net is not responding.||[13:50]|
|MichaelDaum||the plugin I wrote doesn't talk to the piwiki.php directly. instead, it polls records into a work_area queue where an interim daemon picks them up talking to the real piwik.||[13:51]|
|gac410||That sounds much nicer.||[13:51]|
|MichaelDaum||this all for performance problems of a normal ootb piwik site
you get more stats this way too
as lots of browsers block talking to a third party .. the piwik site
instead the new PiwikPlugin gathers all stats from within foswiki and then forwards them to piwik without the need of the browser client doing so
|...... (idle for 29mn)|
|gac410||I've removed the sflogo. Site is not responding, and the browser never completes views of f.o||[14:22]|

|foswiki_irc1||hey guys , I'm having trouble finding this root in order to install a plugin (Could not load / var / lib / Foswiki / tools / extender.pl Change to the root directory of your Foswiki installation before running this installer. )||[16:29]|
|gac410||Are you running an install from the debian packages?
If you installed the foswiki.deb from fosiki.com, then extensions should only be installed using apt-get, symaptic, or some other debian installer.
|foswiki_irc1||gac410 i installed foswiki from the debian packages.
yes i used apt-get like a tutorial http://foswiki.org/Extensions/DebianPackage
|gac410||hi foswiki_irc1 okay, so the extension installer probably won't work for you. If you go the packages path, then best to stick with it.||[16:45]|
|GuilainC||foswiki_irc1 to more precise (?) than gac410, an foswiki plugin named ToToPlugin need to be install by apt-get install foswiki-ToToPlugin
not by the configure script
foswiki_irc1, tell us what do you want to install
|gac410||hi GuilainC Thanks. Yeah as I don't use the deb pkgs, I'm not all that familiar||[16:50]|
|GuilainC||wich plugin, i will tell you the cmd
You know enough other things ;)
|gac410||I assume Sven is still auto-building the pkgs. ... I hope||[16:50]|
|GuilainC||and i'm just using it, even if i've found the chown fastidious, I love it !
are you familliar with debian and deal like a pro the apt-get command line utility ?
|GuilainC||in commande line as root type
apt-get install foswiki-genpdfaddon
|foswiki_irc1||i download package of addonPFD
|GuilainC||and then, enable it in configure script http://yourwikiserver/bin/configure
(something like that)
tell me if install doesn't work
(i'm not responsible for well use of the plugin ;)
|foswiki_irc1||where i find the commands for download???
ok no problem, don't worried
|GuilainC||I hope gac410, than sven continue the deb repo... for the moment i've often update
|GuilainC||the advantages by apt-get is everything is done by it ! :) download, install
just one things, is needed on my debian box
make a big chown www-data:www-data of the data/ dir en subdirectory (-R)
www-data is my webserver user, can change
gac410, my hop is to be include into debian, as standard debian package
foswiki_irc1 is it ok ?
enable into configure ?
|gac410||We really need someone to build debian specific documentation. All of our topics, including extension topics have explicit instructions assuming the tarball.
Maybe the install instructions should be a conditional include, based upon some indication of debian vs. tarball vs. rpm, etc.
But I don't think that the core project has the resources to also release .deb and .rpm pkgs. I can't do it. It's enough to build the regular archives.
|GuilainC||for me, documentation is enough, the real lack, is the installation based on apt and not configure script, even if i know, this last week-end i've made a mistake by calling "install new extension" in configure script... before reverting using apt... the best for me should be to disable this button or make an kind of skin of apt-get specific for debian install
after, you right, all extension documentation have instruction with configure script and not by debian installer
explain me again, for information, why configure script is difficult to change ?
|FoswikiBot||positive: nothing; negative: nothing; overall: 0.||[17:06]|
|GuilainC||awh bot ?||[17:07]|
|gac410||configure is some very old spaghetti code, and poorly structured objects. Crawford has been spending a LOT of time trying to untangle it. The checkers won't run without the full UI available
He is working on a ConfigurePlugin ... trying to make foswik run without a LocalSite.cfg by default, and make configuration admin accessible through topcis.
Unfortunately (and I was part of it :( ) Configure on 1.2 is much more complicated. than 1.1

|foswiki_irc6||Question: I need to add a script tag to every single page emitted by the instance of foswiki that is being run at my organization. I found this page: http://foswiki.org/System/VarADDTOZONE in the documentation, but it appears that it is only offering information about how to add script to a single page. I need to add a tag to ALL pages, and can't find any information about how to do this. Please advise if there is documentation||[20:57]|
|gac410||You might be able to do that in a ViewTemplate||[20:58]|
|foswiki_irc6||I am a foswiki idiot, unfortunately.||[20:58]|
|gac410||or extend the templates, and set an alternate skin. No, don't claim that. I can't say off hand how to do that.||[20:59]|
|foswiki_irc6||I am being honest. I have to support this instance, but if it were up to me, it would be gone tomorrow.
It's a mission critical requirement for all pages rendered on this server.
Isn't there any kind of 'top level' configuration that can be applied to every page on the site?
|gac410||The rendering is done using templates and skins. Look in your foswiki/templates directory.
Unfortunately this stuff is pretty complicated
|foswiki_irc6||Yeah, it took me 20 minutes to do this for thousands of pages that aren't in Foswiki.||[21:04]|
|gac410||templates/view.tmpl is the un-skinned rendering. templates/view.pattern.tmpl overrides view.tmpl for skin=pattern||[21:05]|
|foswiki_irc6||Is that some kind of template file for all pages?||[21:05]|
|gac410||view.tmpl is all "view" operation. edit.tmpl is edit, etc. Templates are generally <command>.<skin>.tmpl||[21:06]|
|foswiki_irc6||Thanks for a clue of where to look, @gac410.
so to get this into all pages, I would have to edit all the templates?
|gac410||We recommend you don't change any existing files. Override in view.myskin.tmpl and then set skin=myskin,pattern||[21:07]|
|foswiki_irc6||I'm now lost.
How do I see what skin is being used?
|gac410||A default foswiki install probably uses pattern. Skin would be set in Main/SitePreferences Set SKIN=pattern or something like that.
Skins can be overridden by the user though.
|foswiki_irc6||I'm about 30 seconds from telling the team that is using this that I'm uninstalling it.
I am gathering that basically, foswiki is not engineered to consider that it might be necessary to stuff specific content easily onto many / most / all pages rendered by the instance?
|gac410||No, it's engineered to do that very easily, just needs some understanding of how the templates are rendered.
Another path would be a small perl plugin to just call the addtozone for every page.
|foswiki_irc6||I apologize if I sound cranky, but I am trying to do this without really learning much about foswiki. If I could figure out the absolute brutal minimum information to execute this task, that's what I want to do.||[21:14]|
|gac410||I'm probably not the right guy. I don't work with templates very much. A lot of the folks that would know are probably sleeping ... in Europe||[21:15]|
Thanks for the tip. I don't even know how to find these templates.
Which I am not supposed to change.
|gac410||You copy the file, and give it a new name, and activate it in the settings.
If you change what we ship, next time the site upgrades, you will overlay your changes.
|foswiki_irc6||I figured that was the catch.||[21:17]|
|gac410||That's all I'm saying. You can edit away, and just leave it for the next guy :)||[21:17]|
|foswiki_irc6||I don't even understand how to find the templates.||[21:18]|
|gac410||linux server? probably /var/www/foswiki/templates It really depends on where your web server has located stuff.
or /var/www/<virtualhost>/foswiki/templates. It really depends.
|foswiki_irc6||I was hoping to be able to do this from 'inside' the product. It's not the server I usually work from. So the answer is, yes, I need to get proper unix access to the server, as well as admin rights inside the instance.||[21:20]|
|gac410||If it's a debian or redhat and the user installed using .deb / .rpm packages, then they do funky stuff to put them wherever.
Okay. You can override templates from topics, That can be more complicated.
|foswiki_irc6||yeah, no, it will be basic. I just can't access it until someone comes in tomorrow to give me a login.||[21:21]|
|gac410||If you need to force this in *every* page, then a perl module calling Foswik::Func::addToZone is probably more absolute again I'm the wrong person to ask though.||[21:22]|
|foswiki_irc6||that sounds promising.||[21:24]|
|gac410||I'm trying to think of an example to point you to but nothing is coming to mind. Sorry about that.||[21:24]|
|foswiki_irc6||YOu are being exceptionally helpful. No apologies necessary.
|gac410||ZonePlugin is not used on Foswik 1.1.x, That was needed for backwards compatibility with Foswiki 1.0
I guess that's a good question - what version of foswiki are you running. ( Browse to System/WebHome or System/InstalledPlugins. they should show the version )
|gac410||Okay that's good. Current is 1.1.9, but at least you are in the supported range.||[21:33]|
|foswiki_irc6||it's a start, thanks.
You have been very generous with your time.
|gac410||Ah.. that does bring up one suggestion. You can leave a question pending. and check the logs http://irclogs.foswiki.org/ to see if anyone responded. Sometimes things take a while.||[21:43]|
